    I love my R1 for the same reasons. The look and the sound. I probably use 20% of what it’s capable of. Never taken it to a track because we don’t have one in my country. The way it looks in my garage and the way she sounds on a cold start is enough for me to justify this purchase. I literally ride to the shops and back and feel like Jorge Martin himself …albeit at 80kms an hour max! Also love the way kids respond to the bike! Constantly being approached by moms and dads asking for their kids to have pics on the bike and seeing their joy is just another reason I love my R1 so much.
    My daily is my BMW GS1200! Completely different bikes but a blessing to own them both!

    IMO I wish that people who get the supe'd up 180+ hp sportbikes would just say they bought it cause they like it, and be done with it. It gets kinda hard to justify when the meat of the engine is all in illegal for street use range, and for the overwhelming majority of people, the difference between an r3, r6, and r1 during twisty roads is going to be really close to negligible. You can even see it during track riding, during corners everyone is much closer together despite hp difference.
    I started on a GSXR 750 and had the time of my life (Triumph now), so its not like im against the idea of supersports on the road. I just dont think it needs more justification other than "this shit is FAST and I love it" because lets be real, its speed and looks are what win us over

    • @Rickontwowheels
      @Rickontwowheels  11 місяців тому +1

      Totally agree
      A very skilled rider on a r3 would be much quicker than a new rider on the r1
      Like I said in the video I love the look of the r1 and the same it makes
      I didn’t buy the bike to 300 km/h on the street
      I bought it cause it’s been a dream of mine to own one , the opportunity came up and I pulled the trigger
      Can’t beat the sound of the r1 in my opinion

    • @wlt3585
      @wlt3585 11 місяців тому

      @Rickontwowheels Completely disagree, people of roughly equal skill level on an r3 and an r1, would be extremely close in twistes, arguably the r3 would perform better in the corners because it's easier to handle, and then get walked in the straights.
      That straight line speed and the looks are what attract majority of non-track riders to the liter bikes.
      And like I said, that's fine, do what you want, the issue is that on a public platform like this some random with 0 motorcycling experience is going to see this video (or a similar one), think they'll be fine handling a supersport, and end up as a statistic. Honestly, that's the main reason I felt like sharing my 2 cents. I'd feel way more comfortable with buyers just going "its fucking awesome" and then bringing up drills or practices a person can do in order to better their riding skills, because very few people seriously considering an R1 are going to keep it in low powered mode for long
      On an somewhat related note, I can't deny the sound of the R1 is amazing though, and being able to afford one in any case is a feat, the amount of clapped out liter bikes on Marketplace is baffling

      @@wlt3585 oh if the skill level equal would depend on the track/ road
      Correct the r3 better at cornering
      I was saying if you had a skilled rider on a r3 and a new rider the skilled rider on the smaller bike would be faster
      I agree with that , I recommend it to track rider or someone that’s a weekend warrior
      Obviously, the r1 isn’t a beginners bike, because of how heavy it is in the power
      I wouldn’t recommend it to someone starting out
      I do get people won’t keep it in d mode for long
      Yeah see some wild stuff on Facebook haha

    I say if you live in a place with big ass highways maybe even tracks in your area I would say get an R1. If not you will have way more fun on a 400-500 hundred cc bike on your local twistys. Those bikes you can push them to the limits and not be a felon.

    is the bike "hard" to ride slow? Planning on upgrading from my R7 to an R1 at some point but looking at the listings for used R1s half of them are selling because "I will die if I keep riding this bike". I don't have a crazy need for speed or anything but I absolutely love the sportbike look and the crossplane sound.

    • @Rickontwowheels
      @Rickontwowheels  5 місяців тому +1

      I wouldn’t say it’s hard to ride slow , it just doesn’t like the stop starting
      It’s very easy to control , throttle is pretty good if you put it in mode b or c
      A mode is way too twitchy
      Respect the bike and you’ll be right
      I think people don’t understand how much power litre bikes have
      Best way to see if you like it , would be try one out .
      I ride mine both in the twisties and slow stuff
      I’m the same I’m not chasing speed just love the look and sound of the r1

    I mean the points you made here really highlight just how subjective motorcycling is. Buy the bike that you enjoy the look of and the performance of that meshes with your riding style. I've owned 2 FZ07s, an FZ09, and now an MT09sp. I ride a buddies R1 here and there and can say it's not my first pick for a street bike. I do track days on my 09 and could see myself maybe (big maybe) getting a super sport like an R1 for track days but I still have so much learning to do that my MT09sp is plenty for me to continue to grow with at the track. I really enjoyed taking my 07 to the track as well.
    I will see the R1 does have some serious curb appeal, absolutely gorgeous motorcycle no doubt and the CP4 roar is addicting!

    • @Rickontwowheels
      @Rickontwowheels  11 місяців тому

      Yeah everyone got different needs , all depends on the individual hey
      I think you’ll learn and improve a lot more on the 09 first on the track over the r1 too
      I just always wanted a sports bike , so thought I would grab one while I can haha

    Seriously dude…. To take advantage of the extra power an R1 has over an R3 on a twistie road takes SERIOUS skill. You have to be so much better to outrun something like a ninja 400 since the 400 actually is easier to handle in those situations. You are right when saying that riding is subjective to everyone, but to say that an R1 has some form of advantage over a smaller displacement on twistie roads is just not true. For those that this would be true of (actual racers) doesn’t need your advice.

    • @Rickontwowheels
      @Rickontwowheels  11 місяців тому

      Like I said the r1 would be more of a track bike / twisties . It’s all depends on the road you ride
      The road I ride the r3/400 would be better as the road is more tight . If you have a massive open road with big sweeping bends you’d fine the r1 would be better , I would hope racers wouldn’t take my advice as I’ve only been riding for a short period , I’m just sharing my opinion. Which are probably wrong but anyways
      I appreciate the comment 🤙

    • @sebba2top
      @sebba2top 11 місяців тому +2

      @@RickontwowheelsYes you are right when saying that the R1 is more specifically a track bike than other bikes. But not necessarily just for the power. Ergonomics are aggressive and it has good breaks, suspension etc., the R1M has even more expensive track components but the R1 still is a track weapon.
      Now my point is not that this. My point is that on track and twisties, skill is going to be the deciding factor for pace. I am not calling you a 10 year old girl so please don’t misunderstand me. But not being skilled and taking the r1 to the track or twistie is like a 10 year old girl picking up the heaviest bowling bowl when bowling. She will simply not fair very well. It is gonna hinder her development of skill and she won’t be competitive in this context.
      It is the same with everything in life, you can’t begin with a black belt, the heaviest weight or the highest division. You progress over time.

    • @Rickontwowheels
      @Rickontwowheels  11 місяців тому

      @sebba2top oh I 100 percent agree , someone a ninja 400 with more skill would destroy me
      Definitely takes skill to ride fast not the bike
      I’d 100 percent agree
      I truely bought the r1 cause of the looks and the sound
      I’ll never get close to its full potential at all
      And the speed the same never going to touch the full speed . I didn’t buy it cause I thought I was a fast rider , I know I’m not. I’m still learning
      The main reckon I made the video was trying to explain how you can ride the r1 on the street, cause of the riding aids, makes it a lot easier to ride
      Goal for this year is to go to the track and learn how to ride properly take classes and improve
      I totally understand your side , I agree too 👌
