New swingarm chain and sprockets. A long over due upgrade for the bike. I wanted to improve the acceleration response so reduced the gear ratio. Huge improvement but this mod may not be suitable for everyone.
Fitting an R1 Seat on to an FJ12
Переглядів 8797 місяців тому
The FJ seat looks like a big comfortable cushion but the swoop up to the tank means your balls are being crushed while riding. The hard and flat R1 seat is so much more comfortable and allows you to maneuver your body position around quickly when riding fast in the twistys

1999 Yamaha R1 2 Year Ownership Review
What tires do you recommend for backroads ?
Tank pad very necessary, because eventually that section of tank will get paint ware, they come off easy even if they have been on for years, just use a hair dryer.
yeah: so nice machine :) best regards from Laranjeiras do Sul / Paraná / Brazil :)
The purpose of wrapping pipes is to keep the heat in the pipe and push it out, drag racers use it for because they run short spurts. Wrapping pipes on a normal daily rider could cause them to crack
That popping on decel means the fuel mixture is a little lean you may want to go up one main jet size
Hi.what fuel tank cap u used?
Have you a link to where you got it from or is it a genuine part from Yamaha (Mine is doing exactly the same) constantly blipping the throttle or fiddling with the choke
Yahoo Auctions in Japan. Its a genuine Yamaha choke basically
Had same experience on the fj1100, replaced the piston with one machined from billet stainless steel.
Good tip: Use a large syringe to push the brake fluid from the bottom to the top until it reaches the reservoir. This way, you’ll hardly need to bleed the system.
Sounds good
Would be great if you told us the size of the hose you purchased but great video
Just Subscribed, Just waiting on the parts & Doing this next weekend Thanks for posting 👍
i lIke you and your opinions mate. ive got the same bike, very helpful
I got one! Waiting for good weather now…
hello from Vancouver, Canada. I had that bike some years ago and I have been enjoying seeing you getting yours running well - I liked it but always had intermittent issues with starting, especially in cold, moved to a 98 CBR1100xx, and now on a 15 CBR1000rr+09 WR250X
Hey, play Ride 5 with all this assists off and tell me how close it is. It has me wanting this specific R1. On too much power, this has 149, not like the new ones. I think 149 is perfect.
Nice job . I have to do it next week !! Greetings from Spain !!!😊
Awesome bike, still got mine had it 20yrs 4xv r1s rock. Ride safe buddy. 👍👍
I currently drive a Suzuki 1999 GSX 750F. And i seriously consider buying one like yours. Do you have any tips or something I need to look out for? Typical failures or anything like that? Nichlas
Don't buy rn01 and rn04 buy atleast rn09. The liners crack on the early r1s
Hello Rider Japan, I recently joined the channel and I'm really excited about it. I’m currently in the process of purchasing the same model Yamaha R1 (1999), and just like you, I rode an R6 back in the early 2000s. I feel like we share the same mindset when it comes to riding and working on bikes. It's a shame you live so far from the Netherlands 😕. I’ve already watched many of your videos, and each one has been enjoyable, informative, and helpful. I can’t wait until the R1 is here in my garage! Keep up the great work with your videos. It might be fun to connect, either personally or otherwise. Cheers!
Anyone with one of these in the UK, E5 fuel only that E10 will wreak havoc on the seals in the carbs
Hey. Why did you change from pos. 3 to 4 ?
Ooooh man, that OVER exhaust. Very nice. Love that brand.
i dropped my 1st bike the 2nd day i got it. i forgot to unlock the fork lock...lol
i started with a cruiser...then i thought i want more thrill and i bought a hornet 600....now i want a liter bike 😁
Lamp oil is awesome cleaning oil... Especially for the chain very good!
I have the same bike, got it because of your videos. How often do you have to fill up your tires? Thanks
Great! Glad the videos were an inspiration. Its a great bike but treat it with respect. Tyre pressures dont change much but if the bike isnt used for a week or more i just made it a habbit to push my thumb in to the tyre and see how it feels before riding it. Cold weather may lower the pressures also. Filling with nitrogen helps keeps pressures stable I was told
@@riderjapan1731 great thanks for the reply! I've had it for 6 months now, really amazing bike, I ride it in London. I thought I was going crazy, just like you I feel a huge difference whenever the psi drops even a little bit. Doesn't help with all the potholes here. Looking forward to the next videos
I have a 2001 r1 . Im 6'7" and its so comfortable and even with my big arse on it ,it goes like a train! Rode it 400 miles in 24 hrs and could have rode 400 more!
Yo. I reckon the ideal number of bikes is 4. I keep revising this up but you need 1) road 2) off-road 3) track, and 4) a PROJECT. I have a ‘99 R1 as my number 4. It’s currently running on 1 cylinder but I will spend some time in the garage this winter and get it right. Thanks for the content. I share your enthusiasm for bikes/cars/whatever with less modes/assistance/etc
Sounds good to me. Id love a supermoto type bike for wheelies, a triumph rocket to customise, my R1 for everyday travel and my FJ12 is the project.
I have nine bikes. I ride 5 all the time. I have the same bike but in blue.
I would of loved a blue one but I do like it in red
@@riderjapan1731 the red one is rare. So, yours is a great find. Love the channel. Keep it up. :)
Nice! Next week i'm going to look for a R1 same model! Love your footage. Keep going... Cheers, Matt from NL
Eerste versie R1s zijn 2 tot 3 keer zo duur als de generatie daarna.
Nice channel man! How did you end up in Japan btw ? I'm planning to buy a R1 myself. Comming from a VFR800 now. Had a R6 as well in the past ;) Can't wait to try the R1!
Ciao puoi aiutarmi? Ho un fj 1100 ho un problema con il carburatore non so quale tubo va collegato all pompa mi aiuti
The original R1s like yours always get serious attention in the UK, they are that good.
THank you. I needed a look inside, and this is the same as my Suzuki has. Fuel pumps on m/c is really new to me. They all were gravity fed in my previous experience.
What size clip ons, can i use
Hey I took the carbs apart on mine and forgot to place floats in correct spots do u know where they go ...they have numbers on them and mine are original
I just picked up a 86 for $100. Working on getting it to fire up
What year is that I have a 1986 that’s been sitting for 15 years
Hey Man! love your videos but i think we need some riding videos of you and this beautiful Bike! get yourself a helmetz cam and just record. i bet it would be incredible. Hope to someday see some of this!
All that bike Needs is a good pair of frame sliders, as those tacky pieces of plastic will not save your fairing when you drop it!
Better Aero, for sure, but be carefull they may not offer as wide a rear veiw. Thanks for sharing.
Nice, but how did you get the shots from the bike, so steady ? Are the roads there, like billiard tables ?
Hello @rider japan. Do you know what of mufflers can fit on fj1200? Is any muffler just plug on play on fj1200 or should there be any work done beforehand
Is it possible use this device in a car?
Only if it has a throttle for each cylinder (*edit or multiple throttle bodies) - you are balancing the cylinders by adjusting the throttle body opening or air valve screw on each cylinder, then you want to get the o2 right on each cylinder, a colour tune is cheap way to do it - unless you have a 5 way gas analyser :-)
@@Numbnutz-Uk Thank you for the explanation! The car motor has 4 cylinders + 2x dual Dell'orto carburettor 40, these carburettors, have a screw to adjust (but I'm not sure about if they have "the throttle to each cylinder"). I'm not aware of those color tune, and that's amazing! The kit cost around 80€. I was thinking of buying an air flow meter, will that do the job? Cost around 50€. The 5 gas machine is too expensive :S More than 1500€.
Hi@@Filthat Well maybe I should have said multiple throttle bodies not just one for all cylinders. I'd expect your twin dellorto 40's have a throttle body for each cylinder / trumpet and 1 carb supplies 2 cylinders (one side) and the same for the other two. Google 'how to balance twin dellorto carbs' and see if you can see the youtube 'easy guide on a alfa'. You would need to adjust all 4 throttles You could use a carbtune (if you can fit the vacuum pipes ok, or a pressure meter (as in the vid) if you can access the trumpets ok. I'd prefer the carbtune as you can leave the air filter on etc. But have a look at both vids and decide which may suit you set up. The colour tune is a basic spark plug with a glass body so you can see the colour of the flame .. and you adjust the mixture to get the right colour .. but you'd have to move the colour tune into each cylinder and make sure you adjust the right screw. Tbh it may be better to take it to someone who can tune and set these up if you havent do this before and get them to explain it to you .. unless you want to do it and learn 👍
@@Numbnutz-Uk Yes, I already searched and saw some videos (including that one), but, have different methods and machines. I was checking this CartunePro, if it works. My strategy will be: 0 - Set the Valvules 1 - Air flow meter 2 - Cartune Pro 3 - ColorTune 4 - If's not right, not to go to a shop with 5 gas meter 5 - go to a shop if cant made it :S This will be quicky over 300€
@@Numbnutz-Uk I already did, but so many different approaches XD
Nice classic! I’d give this a little restoration, then stick it in my garage. A nice display piece. Then go out and get a modern R1.
Great looking bike. Truth is, today’s most modern R1 can only best a 1987 FZR1000 1/4 mile time by about 7/10ths of a second, all other things being equal. 0-60 for the 87 FZR was about 3 seconds and it’s about 2.8 for the 2020 R1. Nearly 40 years and that’s all you get. I’d rather ride something like yours knowing full well that a cheap buzz goes a long way. And honestly, I think your bike looks better than anything sold today.
Nicely done.
How does this video not have more views?? This video is gorgeous, really shows how absolutley beautiful Japan is. Can't wait to go there. Awesome video overall.
I found your channel while looking up how to bleed the clutch on my 93 FJ1200 over here in the States (I would also love to find a mint Gen 1 R1 one day). I went to Japan and proposed to my fiancé while in Aomori this past May. Definitely going again. Do you have any experience renting motorcycles in Japan as a foreigner? Would love to ride in Japan next time I go. Got to get use to riding on the wrong side of the road lol.
