As a Muslim born married to a revert its even harder to be present on my in laws celebrating day. I don’t participate but still inside i feel bad when we will have kids it’s going to be harder. May Allah help us with this hardship

Make hijrah it's an obligation
It’s not a big deal, when your kids grow up in sha allah just explain to them the truth. Be present with the family but u don’t have to believe in what they believe.
@mindfreedom1 yes most Muslims don't know it's an obligation it's sad cause so much could ve been prevented if they knew about this obligation and it's seriousness

«Those who do harm to themselves. The angels will take away their souls by saying: "Where were you?" (About your religion) "We were weak on earth," they said. Then the angels will say, "Was not the land of Allah large enough to allow you to emigrate?" These are the ones whose refuge is Hell. what a bad destination!»
When Allah wants good for someone He gives them understanding of the deen. This ayah reminded me of you. May Allah keep you steadfast in the deen.

@@valival226 sister watch this channel on UA-cam " one message foundation ".......many Christian doesn't know reality of what the bible is saying. 98% of Christian doesn't read the bible fully, doesn't ask question. They are just for namesake " I am Christian " doesn't follow the teaching of jesus. Always modified.
I completely agree. Don’t isolate yourself from these rare moments when the family all come together. I was told by a friend that her friend who’s a revert never stoped participating in these events. Gradually, as years pass by. This revert family ended up embracing Islam.
I’m not saying if you go to these events that everyone in the family will become Muslim (although it happened in this case.) but it will show the character of a Muslim and the people who attend usually observe these things.
I stopped celebrating and attending a Christmas family get together years ago. I thought it was the proper thing to do...but it damaged the relationship with me and my family 😔
Exactly. It will make them more isolated and distant from you. My partner and his family celebrate, nothing wrong with exchanging gifts and eating together. mostly only do it for tradition anyway. Do what you gotta do then go pray and read Quran lol i love the diversity if anything.

I told my non muslim family members. They hated it but got used to it years later because they saw I wasn't going to compromise my deen for their belief. When you stick to your belief your non muslim family will eventually respect you for it.
Celebrating and just being present has a difference, may Allah bless each and one of you that live in families with mixed religions, us that come from muslim families should appreciate you more for your efforts., simply because of the fact that you are a bridge between us and them, you are our ambassadors, carry on telling your families that we have brotherly/sisterly love for them, some of them may think that we hate them, please tell them it is far from the truth.

I agree with you sister. Like you, I too embraced Islam & have grappled with the whole Christmas as a revert issue. I also understand & accept the reality that we as Muslims do not celebrate Christmas.
I don't wish people (especially even the kids I teach swimming to & work collegues at work) a Merry Christmas, rather I simply wish them happy holidays &/or all the best. They are all cool with that. I wouldn't expect them to wish me Eid Mubarak, in the same way they wouldn't expect my to wish them Merry Christmas.

Many years before I embraced Islam, I had stopped celebrating it as I understood the origins of the occasion. My parents knew & understood that I wasn't into the whole thing (I think I was around 13 when I stopped celebrating although I didn't embrace Islam till I was 28). My wife & I still go up to my home town to visit them regularly throughout the year & they really enjoy whenever my wife & I come up. Just not at Christmas time - they usually do their own thing anyway.
Now I am Muslim, my wife & I spend Christmas, having a Lebanese BBQ with a Muslim family. Away from Christmas celebrations, alcohol, etc. Alhamdulillah. :)

I think for someone that is born Muslim, it doesn’t make sense to celebrate Christmas, as I don’t celebrate for example Diwali. But if you are a revert it’s different. There is nothing wrong to just wish marry Christmas and to eat with your family, to simply be together and enjoy the happiness of the day. This doesn’t mean you believe in it. A lot of Christians nowadays don’t believe in it either. It is just a celebration that was also done in the past to exorcise the fear of the winter and the darkness 💕

@@Ash_Queen16 Those Christians don't believe in Christianity is called culturally Christians, likewise there are Muslims, who don't practice Islam, but they are culturally Muslims who are not serious about the practice of Islam, who don't care for the salvation.

I’m western/white (variable spirituality) and my bf is an arab muslim and this year I celebrated Eid and he celebrated Christmas....love and respect for each other’s cultures and way of life led us to experience special memories and moments by learning about each other’s celebrations ❤️

I am going to visit my family om christmas. I don't go to church with them. I just stay home and talk to them but I don't celebrate it nor greet people with mary Christmas. I believe it's haram to say that.
Yes its haram saying marry Christmas is accepting that jesus is son of god which naozubillah not true so yes u r believe right and doing the right thing.

A revert journey is a progression, baby steps are best let your journey unfold organically and don’t feel over burdened or the person will feel resentment and that it’s way too hard.
None of us are perfect and one Muslim may be good in one thing and not another .
I bought my mother gifts at Christmas and treated her well , she went out of her way to celebrate eid for me,
Guess what she ultimately took shahada Islam should not be extremely difficult it just puts people off ,
May I add it’s about intention I didn’t believe Jesus was the son of god or that it was even his birthday as it isn’t , but I respected my mother and her beliefs , and was really chill

I would like to give my thoughts on these 2 topics:
- You cannot be "born Muslim": believing is something you choose when you have learnt. It is a proactive thing to become and be a Muslim. But yes, you can be born in a Muslim home.
- Celebrating Christmas is not haram: in Islam, something is forbidden when it is CLEARLY forbidden. The prophet (pbuh) not celebrating Christmas does not mean it's forbidden to celebrate it, as long as you don't worship Jesus. If a hadith was found saying that the prophet (pbuh) never wore a black shirt, it doesn't mean wearing a black shirt is haram. My family and I are Muslim and yet, we celebrate Christmas every year not as a religious thing whatsoever, but as a good time to be all reunited, have fun, decorate, eat a good meal and give to charities.

And as for alcohol: since I became Muslim I realise how crazy people are in Aussie culture to drink. My mum was dying in her bed 2yrs ago and every night we were there her 2 sisters were drinking wine and eating cheese in the dining room nearby like they were at a bloody party. It made me so angry. Like, they couldn’t even give it up in a time of grief. It really makes you see when you don’t drink.

@@rajababy2009 No thanks. I'm not a theist so, respectfully, I'm not interested in what various people believe about the origins of Christmas. Christmas has enormous secular value to many people, as does the tradition of Santa Claus. No one is trying to force anyone to participate in the tradition of Santa if they don't want to, but the tradition has special meaning for many people and he isn't based on a demonic figure. He is based on the historical St Nicholas, that is a verifiable fact. Happy New year.

In my Classical civilisation class (it's where I study about Roman's and Greeks) I learnt that Christmas originated from Roman's and the Roman's used to celebrate the saturnalia which was when the Roman's celebrated their God Saturn's ( god of harvest) birthday from the 17th of December to the 25th and when christianity came along the roman king of that time changed the whole festival around from the Saturnalia to Jesus's birthday

What do you think about buying gifts. I told my family this year I’m not celebrating Christmas I don’t want any gifts. People at work have bought me things and my family. So I feel pressure to buy them all gifts. But then that’s me celebrating with them.

MashaAllah!! I just think, especially reverts, many times only understand the deep logic and wisdom behind the Haram and Halal Principles, if they are explained from their perspectives, translated into the direct speech and law in Islam from Quran and Sunna. As revert I remember, how many times I had to go back to the basically old believe System, to bring every Single thing clean converted into Islam. Finally, after really all of my questions found logically answers, my Iman became strong, my Wisdom and my believe became strong, that I felt completed and wanted to speak my Shahada new.
It's so sad that there are many Arab muslims who celebrate Christmas even go to new year's parties, dressing like Santa claus, putting Christmas lights, take photos with Christmas trees..etc, just copying western traditions without thinking.

Luckily for me my family has stopped celebrating Christmas. At least my mom and my older sister have. And I honestly miss Christmas songs.

Not the same situation as yours, but you see in Nigeria, where we have mixed religions, everyone celebrates everything. The Muslims celebrate Christmas with their Christian friends and wish them Merry Christmas while the Christians celebrate Salah with their Muslim friends and wish them Barka de sallah.
Many Muslims actually put a tree in their houses which is weird..as many Christians know that jesus was born in September not in December , a Christian told me that as a fact but many of them just do the traditions. Thanks for sharing this, by the way red looks good on you.

Sam I have a question, so I'm a revert too, my family mainly have Christmas music on all day and dance around, get drunk and eat food. What should I do when there dancing to Christmas music because of me growing up a I know the words to Christmas songs should I just go upstairs away... But then I'd have to go upstairs all day because they have music on all day. This is the first Christmas I'm not celebrating so I just hope I get it right and don't disobey Allah❤️😞

I have a lot of new muslim friends and many of them are talking about this group of people called reverthelp team on Tumblr, and their Instagram is @revert_help. They tell me about the struggles they go through such as not having witnesses while saying the shahadah bc there is no mosque around, finding reliable sources, telling their families, changing their lifestyles etc. They mentioned that the admin is a professional life coach, who helps people during their process, answers their questions and provides them with reliable Islamic sources. They have a really nice community too. Seeing your comment I thought they can be of good use for you as well if you need any information or resources. Do send them a message 😊 best ✌🏻

I agree with what you say, as long as it is not related to worship, of course (for me) we can get together especially with family. Regarding the Merry Christmas greeting, usually I just say Happy Celebrating. I don't think that would be against Islamic rules.

What should I do my family drinks from the beginning till the end :( not Only on Christmas but always, I never visit them all together, only each one by themselves to avoid the alcohol.
You are right sister. Allah dnt like extremism. We should have balance. Like you said dnt say or do anything wrong but dnt make it a big deal.
Thing is, I grew up in a religious Christian family. We never celebrated Christmas the secular way. Midnight church service that's us, prayers, hymns. When I look into the history of Christmas, it's actually quite scary...😈worship. For our children's sake, I think we have to disengage ourselves from Christmas celebrations. Gonna be our first hols here in Christchurch New Zealand as Muslims.
Revert of almost a year and the struggle is real 😞 I have wonderful, thoughtful friends who have given me “early” Christmas gifts and I just thanked them and accepted them. Was this allowed? I didnt want to seem ungrateful...

Witness Truth I'm sorry to say that was the stupidest argument I've come across today. There's a difference between what came out of Prophet's ( pbuh ) mouth aka Revelation from God and what Prophet ( pbuh ) had done beforehand. Wine was legal and so was Mut'a, they are both forbidden now. Reasons? *REVELATION from the Almighty*

Help me... many colleges and patients at work wish me automatically "merry christmas" even if some of them knows i dont celebrate it. What should i answer? I answered to themm "thanks, to you too. Or merry christmas" because i didnt want to be mean 😔😔

My issue is that I’m an MINOR CHILD, I’m only 16, where I live my parents can LEGALLY FORCE me to go to church.

Well my family we don’t celebrate last time I celebrated Xmas 2005. My family don’t celebrate it. I am kind of blessed.

I have not told anyone I converted to Islam yet. What I'm doing is buying new years gifts for my family instead. I'm not going to decorate, or celebrate christmas this year.

you can celebrate crismas , it doesnt matter , its all about intention , theres nothing wrong this giving gifts and having a chrismas tree as long as youre not doing it for the wrong reasons. i dont personally do chrismas cause my family doesnt but if a friend gives me a card or were to give me a gift , ill buy them one too. its generous not haram. Just have the right intention , dont celebrate it cause ''jesus was born on that day'' and so on.
@Abdul-Haqq theres a lot that the prophet didnt do that we do today cause they didnt have the resourses , it doesnt mean we shouldt do it. islam is all about intention. nowhere in the quran does it say , ''you cant give gifts'' ''you cant have lights up in your house'' ''you cant have a chrismas tree''.

Im not saying walking around saying marry chrismas and celebrating it is the way of islam. im saying , there is nothing haram about having lights on a tree and giving gifts . you aint gonna go to hell for it. its what you belive that matters.

@@wamu6379 no youre not , its all about intention. everyone has their own meaning for chrismas.chrismas isnt even about jesus for most people today. people who arent even religious cenebrate it , in korea chrismas isnt even about jesus , its about couples. not saying its nay better but thats my point , chrismas isnt about what it used to be.

Why you not saying salam again?
We go to family after Xmas and we do presents for our kids because our Xmas was never religious. My mum took us to church when we were little but as grownups never. My dad is an atheist and he loves Xmas but it is simply a family day, a day to give random happy presents. My dad doesn’t believe anything in the bible so it has nothing to do with religion in his home.

Assalaam alikum dear sister I agree with you,my opinion like this events join with ur family but keep isolation from Haram things, Allah knows better, and pray for them, one of our Sheikh Abudl Wahab sahib who passed away last year he keep map in front for him and do Dua for all countries, Ya Allah give hidaya to this and this country.every day his bayan was 3 hours Doctor's says don't do bayan you have throat problem then he says I obey you or Allah in more than 90 years he passed away.
Please turn to Jesus! He loves you more than you can ever fathom. I have seen Hell and Muhammad was there :(

Christmas is what you need to understand true love and love of family, religion would never get you there... Open your heart... And christmas day is not abt eating pork and drinking alcohol.
I know most scholars say it’s not ok to celebrate Christmas, but we Muslims are accounted for our intentions not deeds. Spend Christmas with your family and friends with intention of (صلة الرحم). You don’t believe in what Christmas stands for ,(which’s Jesus birthday) and that’s the most important thing.
Just to remind you Christmas is a commercial birthday as you will come to know Jesus did not born in 25th December.
I am a born muslim, and as tho you have some great points, as a muslim and in islam we are still entitled to respect and be supportive of other people’s beliefs
it doesn’t mean you believe in those things or any of that its just a gesture and respect on your behalf, I have plenty of christian friends and they have come to the mosque out of respect, as have I been to a church to respect them in return

Should Muslims Join the Christmas Fever?
This is one of those topics that always has to resurface every time the event comes around.
I completely agree that there are many more important topics that must be discussed and shared, but it so happens that unfortunately and regretfully this topic of “Muslims celebrating Christmas” is at the top of the list of questions during this season.
It really does come as a shock for us to receive this many queries about an event that has nothing to do with us as Muslims.
I will go one step further and say it has nothing to do with Christianity as a religion as well. We all know that this whole Christmas topic is even controversial among Christians themselves.[1] There are Christians who completely denounce Christmas and refuse to celebrate anything from it.[2]
It doesn’t concern us whether or not all or some Christians celebrate Christmas. That’s an internal issue they have. But this issue serves as a strong argument against us Muslims who might find ourselves obliged to take part in something in solidarity with people around us, but yet the practice itself has no basis.
When we know that Islam is a complete religion and a way of life, with a long and vast heritage, it has so much in it that would really keep us occupied throughout the year. We will be so busy and vibrantly active, we won’t have any time for anything else.
Look at all the occasions we have during the year. As a Muslim, do you do anything for these great celebrations: Ramadhan al-Mubarak, Eid al-Adha, 15th of Sha’baan, Eid al-Ghadir, or the birthdays of our Ma’sumeen (a.s.)?
Are they just normal days in your household that pass by and you or your children don’t even notice them? I am not just talking about the Mustahab things you should be doing on our sacred days and celebrations, but also creating such an atmosphere in the home, where the children live them.
Is that better for you to have, or to introduce non-Islamic practices that have no basis even in the religion they’re supposedly based on?
So it’s not just about having a Christmas tree in your house, or putting out biscuits and milk next to the fireplace. It’s about having pride in your heritage and identity.
When you read into Islamic law, one of the outstanding cases strongly reiterated is the prohibition of imitating non-Muslims and doing something that is a part of the rituals, habits or practices of non-Muslims.
For example, many hadiths insist on men shortening their moustaches, and then explain that it’s because Jewish men at that time would leave their moustaches to grow long. So it was a way of allowing themselves to be recognised as Muslims.
All of our jurists - Sunni and Shi’ah - say it is Haram for us to buy, sell, or adorn ourselves or our houses with statues or symbols of other religions. You cannot hang a crucifix, or put a Buddha statue, and then innocently say that there is no harm in it.
This isn’t belittling or insulting other religions. It is you as a Muslim being proud of what you have and keeping your personal space as Islamic as possible.
