@@user-qb2lv8uo4x there are no specific rules that we have to follow but general. Islam gives us general guidelines and boundaries just like a teacher giving a general guidelines for a project or an assignment. How you do the assignment is up to you. The whole world is filled with different cultures and traditions. It's about our intentions and how much work we put in to actually celebrate a day Allah has blessed us with. Our Prophet pbuh really put effort and did all that was in his might to show to us that you have to effort and spend this day different and better than the rest of the days. I hope you understand and may Allah guide you and all of us more and more each day Ameen

Go to your family during Christmas with niat of fostering stronger bond with your families and not because of Christmas. Fostering stronger family bonding is better than not to. Islam never want you to severe your family ties even if they non-Muslim. It's your Niat or your Intention that matters more. Go there for your family, not for the belief of Christmas or believe that 25th Dec is the birthdate of Jesus.

What a wonderful video. This is just in a good time. I always struggled with this topic. What I normally do, I give gifts to my neighbours and I put verses related to Jesus and Mary in the Christmas cards so my Christian friends also have a good understanding about us Muslims and the connection we have with Christianity and Judaism.

This was such a helpful video for me. I've recently converted to Islam but still love Christmas. I love the cheerful atmosphere and friendly spirit of people. I also love decorating for the season. I loved your decorations and your idea of how to navigate this holiday season as a revert. For us, we call it "gift day" instead of Christmas, and while we still give gifts and put up a tree, we don't decorate the tree with Christmas decorations, it's just a winter tree, and we give gifts on a different day. I also want to incorporate charity or zakat into this season InshAllah

That's right sister: in surat Marie, we learn that as Mary, peace be upon her, gave birth to Jesus, peace be upon him, dates were ripe on palms.
      Surah Maryam, verses 23-25
Then the pains of labour drove her to the trunk of a palm tree. She cried, “Alas! I wish I had died before this, and was a thing long forgotten!” (23)
So a voice reassured her from below her, “Do not grieve! Your Lord has provided a stream at your feet." (24)
And shake the trunk of this palm tree towards you, it will drop fresh, ripe dates upon you. (25)

Since I lived in Japan for a few years, I began to see the modern celebration of Christmas through a capitalistic lens. It's not a Japanese holiday so there were no days off but there would be Christmas sales and gift exchanges. In many ways it was tied into a celebration of the upcoming new year.
So, now, many years later, I think of Christmas as Thanksgiving Part 2 only with a gift exchange. The religious part of it doesn't come into play for my branch of the family because we dont go to church.

Sister for me its okay, as long as you dont do the pray. You do visit your family because at that day is a holiday that allow your family members gather around. In my childhood I even helped my aunt to decorated her house and christmas tree. The most important is not allowed or allow but your niat. If you there to silaturahmi is okay~~~

I explained everything to my kids and they are ok with it and never bothered about celebrating it as they know the truth. You need to educate youe kids. We muslims needs to have principles and leaders not followers.

SubhanAllah, by the way, it is forbidden to imitate not muslims especially on their holidays.
Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Similarly it is forbidden for the Muslims to imitate the kuffaar by holding parties on these occasions, or exchanging gifts, or distributing sweets or other foods, or taking time off work and so on, because the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever imitates a people is one of them.” Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah said in his book Iqtida’ al-Siraat al-Mustaqeem Mukhaalifat Ashaab al-Jaheem: Imitating them on some of their festivals implies that one is happy with the falsehood they are following, and that could make them (the non-Muslims) take this opportunity to mislead those who are weak in faith. End quote.
Those who do any of these things are sinning, whether they do it to go along with them, or to be friendly towards them, or because they feel too shy (to refuse to join in) or any other reason, because it is a kind of compromising the religion of Allah to please others, and it is a means of lifting the spirits of the kuffaar and making them proud of their religion,
End quote from Fataawa Ibn ‘Uthaymeen, 3/44

I’m a revert Muslim and I still celebrate Christmas because my family are Christians, and it’s just a day we spend time together. As well as me giving them gifts to show them how much I appreciate them and everything they put up with. Even if you aren’t the most religious person anymore, if Christianity or Islam was ever apart of you then it is and will always be apart of your spiritual journey, so for me I celebrate Christmas and Ramadan of course. Islam is special though because the teachings of the prophet truly make you a better person.
