We could cut GPU models down by 90% as all are within +/-10% performance of each other costing more than double what we use to pay for less performance/dollar than we have ever had.
There are only a few actual GPU dies. The reason we have so many models is because of imperfections in those dies that cause them to be “binned” lower than perfect dies. These lower-binned dies are then salvaged by disabling the defective parts and offering them as a lower spec model. It is a way for silicon manufacturers to maximally use all of their produced chips.
Sunday mornings wouldn't be the same without Tech News.
Always good to see you doing the tech news Paul!
We finally got a Ti Super. Now we just need a Super Ti, and more importantly, a Super Ti Super. 😂
Have a great 2024, Paul and Joe!
I’m holding out for the 4070 super ti super ultra special champion edition+++ revision c for its 0.3% performance increase and 2 gb less ram.
I mean that’s OBVIOUSLY what everyone should have done.
This episode really gave me the tech news tingles! Thank you Paul and Joe for blessing us with such an amazing tech news show!
I picked up a pint glass and a desk mat off of your store recently, and I must say they are of the utmost quality.
Keep up the great work!
Great to have the tech new back! Happy New Year!
Thanks for the news updates Paul
Great to see these back. Happy new year Paul :)
“Drink out of can”, then pours into glass, glad to see you are enjoying and having fun with your videos Paul.
I remember the "classic screw" as having the threads backwards. I have a few items with that initial design lol
Thanks for only putting ads at the start and finish, I can contribute a little while I reading the suggested vid list - lol -.
All the articles I've talked about today are linked in the video subscription? 😁😁😁😁😁 Nice one Paul!
Yay tech news is back! Firefox crew checking in 🔥. Feel better Joe ❤️
I was missing my news, thank you for finally filling my glass full of Paul's goodness!
next time drink it from the can (;

Enjoying a bit of Paul's cream are you, Craig?
Paul liked it, so you know they’re familiar
@06:20 ... i doubt next Ryzen CPUs will becalled 8000 .... there is a trend Ryzen 3000, 5000, 7000 and now 8000? ... no my guess would be 9000. Leaving 4000, 6000 and 8000 for the APU line. As they did in the past.
Good point
Yeah, desktop odds, note book evens seems right.
Odd numbers just sound faster
@@DarkNia64I mean, Red is AMD's color and red ones go faster.
@@Triaxx2 Is the universe ready for the sheer epicness that is red-painted odd numbers?
There are few things in the marketing industry that get an instant "do not buy" reaction out of me...adding the word "super" to the end of them definitely ranks highest
I can’t say I would discount a GPU because the word “super” is in the title. It all depends on cost to performance ratio, if there is hardly any difference to the previous non “super” variants then that’s a no buy for me. Although I get where your coming from, adding “super” to the title is off putting and lazy.
@@leemar1978 of course, if price:perf ratio is acceptable, the name alone should not deter purchases.
In the case of NV GPUs, its a clear disconnect (and at this point patronizing) marketing tactic to entice sales on the back end of a product slot to bolster profits.
Nothing physical about these GPUs is anything to whip the credit card out over.
So what do you think of "Ti Super" then?
What about Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo?
@@Zxanonblade All we can do is laugh
Thank you for being so clear and calm when it comes to GPU news. My PC has a 3060 and my girlfriend's has a 1650, so we're planning to leapfrog each other as we get better monitors for example. Trying to find the sweetspot where it'll be a massive upgrade without being a rip-off is a lot easier when the review isn't all hype
I am just waiting for a 500$ gpu with 16gb of vram
Doesn't Intel have a 400 16gb gpu?
@backlogbuddies yea but i think they need 1 or 2 more generations. But they are starting to become more and more competitive with every update and optimization. Would be nice if they time there next gen cards with nvidia and amd next time around
@erikburzinski8248 well a $300 16 gb card is about to hit the market
@@erikburzinski8248just get a used 6950xt for $500. It has 16gb

I could hear the opening song in my head before even clicking the video haha. It was giving me epic Anchorman vibes, welcome back to the world of tech news Paul :D
Thanks for the good stuff Paul! Hope Joe gets to feeling better!
New year, new Tech News! Welcome back!
Been watching your videos since the Newegg days. Love your tech news videos as they are as refreshing as a pint of beer in the morning, then it's gone, until the next one. Bartender, bring me a double!🍺🍺
Thanks, Paul! My week feels complete with your updates! Cheers! 🍻
Love the beer segment. NEVER heard of a beer better from the can 🤔 gotta try
If your beer is better tasting like aluminum, there is something wrong with your beer.
@@iamperplexed4695 I dunno man. Aluminum ions are pretty tasty in Dr. Pepper.
It's definitely not true. You do not need to try it. It's not supposed to be bottled or canned, it's supposed to be from a barrel and served on draught by the pint. The cans and bottles are just a way to cope with the horror of drinking while not in a pub.
I love your presentations. Keep it up!
Protuberances... made me look it up lol. Learned a new word today. Greetings from Germany.
Good to see you back!
Gotta love competition
Get well soon Joe 👍
That looked like a lovely Ale, Cheers.
Peak Thumbnail design.😂
Yeah, that one gave me a chuckle. Just as the dinosaurs succumbed to death from above, mankind will perish under a hail of extraterrestrial GPU's. Either that or Huang is sneaking those things into China via trebuchet.
Nice to see you back.
Oh, I took your advice on the SSD's back in Oct!! Bought some and I didn't even need them.
The first Paul's Tech News of the year, right into my veins! Feel better soon JOE!
Great choice. Heady Topper is my favorite beer!
Here where i live SSD prices for Samsung has gone up ca 25% in the last 1-1.5 month time (2TB 970+ evo m.2 nvme was about 139.99€ now close to 200€)
I knew something was off. Great to have Tech News back.
Hey Paul, I'm wondering if your viewers would like to see a video about the nuance between add-ons, plug-ins, and extensions.
It's not exactly Hardware, but it could be interesting.
yeah... bought a number of SSD's back in october. prices were just too good to pass up, especially in the 1TB and 2TB sizes.
Have to agree. I picked up a 1TB for $37+tax and a 4TB for $179+tax.
Indeed, I grabbed a 2TB for $100 - utterly ridiculous prices. Almost HDD prices.
Agree with others here - Ryzen 5 will be the 9000 series, in line with what they have been doing for awhile now, hence why the APUs are 8000 series.
Sunday's are made for Paul's Hardware Tech News.
the fresh tech news! a welcome sight for late night browsing :D And no the tech didnt listen sadly, but fresh tech can be wonderful :D
Wonder if this is the time to grab a Next Gen Gene board since the x670e was discontinued like a month after launch it no longer exists our only good M-ATX board other then the dollar store one thets available now.
So what does granite ridge offer over and above the current AM5 CPUs?
In the UK. Nada, so the prices are going to butplug whincing price levels still.
Heady Topper you absolute Chad, Paul. Excellent beer 🍺
The adblock thing is like...."Don't blame me I voted for kodos" moment lol
I dont believe google as mine was doing the same thing at the time when I had no adblocker on the browser at all.
Okay I was going to upgrade to an AM5 CPU in February. I guess ill wait for the 8000 series CPUS
I did get my 1TB m.2 gen 3 ssd for 37 dollars in November last year. The same drive now is 60 dollars. That is the cheapest m.2 gen 3 drive but the speed is 3500MB/s read and 3300MB/s write.
Is that a razer pro type?
I hope you feel better soon Joe.
Heady Topper is an exceptional beer!
Feel better soon Joe!
Which card would you keep the 7900 XTX or the 4070 Ti?
Technically the price ramp started with the 10 series, with the Titan XP die being just barely larger than a traditionally 70 class die only slightly larger than the 2070, but the 1080TI/Titan XP for sure did not launch with a just slightly more expensive than 70 class price
Yea yea i know the GTX 600 series was the first to do this, and the GTX 960 was a 50 class die, but the 10 series was the first gen where the community begged for price increases.
I've noticed a lot less Samsung SSDs available. I grabbed one last cheap Crucial P3 Plus because the prices seem higher every time I go back to check and I don't want my next build hamstringed by some compromise in the storage selection.
Crucial are pretty dope honestly, very good MTTF and temps. I grabbed the P5 Plus and I couldn't be happier with it.
Is anyone out there in comment country looking at the super launches trying to figure out if you’ll get a founders edition 4080 super at launch also? FE cards sold out so fast for the 4070 super
If you drink from the can, make sure you clean lid first. Get well Joe! "What happens in Vegas..." and all that!
Hah, I noticed the prices rising for the SSDs - bought my three 2 Tb just in time to enjoy steep Christmas discounts. Thanks for giving us some recovery time as well.
Yep, I got a Gen 4 2TB 6600MB/s for $100 now the same SSD is $190
Ahhhh sweet sweet tech news, almost as refreshing as my morning coffee. Almost
funny . . I switched to using MS Edge during the last performance dip and I am not going back to Chrome anytime soon as Edge feels considerably faster haha.
should i buy the rtx 3080 ot the rx 6800 xt ????( i found both for 400 euros on the used market)
With the Phoenix 2's terrible PCIe connection, I think they're just laptop/low-end chip that doesn't have good connectivity and they look absolutely terrible when brought to desktop.
Do feel like they either add more connectivity in general or just don't release them for desktop 😅
Probably won't see much of them for stand alone product sales, but if the pricing is good for what they are, I expect they will end up in a lot of basic office computers. you don't need much PCIe when the only thing connected to them is a low end SSD and maybe a bottom of the line GPU.
Now only if youtube would follow US Law and make their ads audio the same level as rhe program they are running the ads on.
I wish there was a law to force no ads
@@Nunya58294 Then you'd have to subscribe to see anything; at the end of the day even if they weren't greedy SOBs, YT has to keep some devs on payroll, pay the bills for their ridiculous server infrastructure, and pay off the investors that make it all happen in the first place.
The law only applies to broadcast TV, sadly, and even then, it only looks at average levels, so it's easy enough to get around, just as ADs on TV have since 2011.
I needed some Snark de Paul
I could possibly decide to upgrade my 3080 Ti to a 4080 super, depending on how the performance looks because I'm also upgrading my X34 to a new 240hz qd-oled ultrawide this year too.
I'm with you on the monitor. I've been waiting a while. I'm going with Asus.
The video card upgrade seems meh for any value. Reviews will be out.
So do you really think the 7600xt was really about making the Arc 770 look bad on price to performance
Looking for an upgrade from 1660super for 1440p
The Alchemist makes amasing beers.. I prefer Focal Banger to Heady. Their stout Luscious is also an amasing brew.
Glad i decided to wait want to see how the 4080 super duper performs before deciding on AMD or Nvidia
Ah yes, the year has been made whole with the return of Paul's Tech News.
All this new hardware, and im just now upgrading to a 5800x3d and a 7800xt lol.
Nothing wrong with that.
You had at least 7 CES vids, I think you did above and beyond as Tech News go for 2024 so far.
Feel better Joe!
i got 4x 4tb 2x2tb nvme drives ! im set for awhile! I used external 3x4 nvme storage! Why not get close to 1,000mbs
Kind of weird hearing UA-cam content creators advocating use of adblockers on UA-cam.
actually like my Arc A-750 gpu it is a damn nice card and I'm not even close to a Intel fan boy but love competition
I had bought a Kingston KC 3000 2TB PCIE 4.0 nvme ssd for about $100 us back in early december, it bursts up to 7386 MB/s read and 7086 MB/s write in my CrystalDiskMark 8.0.4 run. Now the cheapest I found is $180 so yeah I guess ssd prices are going up and I made the right decision to buy early.
I reckon I might get one of those Battlemage GPU's and see how Intel is batting these days.
yay even more expensive gpus, they sneakily increased 40 super series price by $100 compared to og 40 series in australia
Still on my i7 10700 and 3060ti combo. I am loving it
I just missed the SSD deals and thought they would come back down with new announcements. Frustrating
You can still find some really good deals. 2TB for $100-120, keep checking if you really need a new SSD cause there are deals to be had.
Try any Rooster or UTOG beers from Utah…amazing
Brave browser doing the lords keeping the adblocker blocker at bat. Couple weeks ago i got the message from youtube saying that after 3 more videos id be restricted unless i disabled ad blocker. I closed the browser, relaunched it, continued using youtube with zero issues.
if there was a new chipset coming for zen 5 we would have heard something about it already
I loved my AMD FX-8350 unlocked Black Edition, that CPU got me all the way through the AM4s right into the AM5's. It's still works but sits on the shelf, took 10 years to run into games It couldn't run. Now have the R9 7950X and will be just as happy if it can get another 10 years of gaming without needing to upgrade.
Thanks Joe and Paul for making my weekend! 🎉
Reads the directions to drink from the can.
Pours into glass anyway.
Best GPU for gaming under 300 US? I’m gravitating towards the Radeon RX 7600. Thoughts?
It appears that Paul's editor and editing system are both ill, but Paul managed to get through it!
Excellent! 👊😎
Naming: Like Gigabyte does with their motherboards Cutting down the Lower the power stages ,Audio, and 8 layer changed to 6 Layer PCB on their WHITE boards and charging more for them..
I highly doubt that the high end generate so much competition outside of press circles. We would have to see what percentage of people use that type of GPU. In that sense, AMD and Intel focus on the sectors where people buy more and APUs make more commercial sense.
I recently got a 4080 for the price of the 4070ti super. Doubt it will be as strong anyway
There are some channels on UA-cam that have comparisons already. Not sure how they are showing 4070 ti super results but it’s about as fast as the 4080 in some games but slower in other games.
@@storage-space4927 a lot if not all of those are fake bro. It’s a lot of fake benchmark channels going around for both cpu and gpu’s. It’s been like that for a while and gets worse whenever new cards start to come out. The embargo hasn’t been lifted so if the vids were real they would be blacklisted.
I'll pass on them and wait patiently for Battlemage.
You'll be waiting a while....
I waited 8 years to upgrade from a gtx 970 I can wait 1 year to see if it's worth it to replace my 3070 ti I got used with a full 3 year warranty for $400 during the crypto crash@@JynxedKoma
I love this level of snark!
Is the super not what they should have released in the first place?
Regarding Battlemage too, have heard for almost a year(?) now that Battlemage is likely scaled back to either only iGPU or Intel only focusing on the mid-range GPUs.
Tho people only heard that the "effectively cancelled" as "they're never making GPUs again", so it's been frustrating that people keep thinking Intel is just going to stop xP
Certainly hope to see more Intel GPUs soon 😅
Reminds me of the constant barrage of "Microsoft is discontinuing the XBox" rumors we used to get all the time. It can be hard to tell when there's a legitimate leak and when it's just wishful thinking from people that want a particular product to fail.
@@IcyTorment yeah... Honestly hoping that we see Intel's team just keeps pushing forward for better Xe graphics. Only time will tell!!!
@@IcyTorment The “effectively cancelled” I’d heard was that they’d been planning three dGPU dies with the biggest one being significantly larger than the biggest A-series chip, and it’s since been paired back to one dGPU die that’s physically a bit smaller than the A770 but with more transistors due to a die shrink, and an iGPU tile.
And the version I’d heard didn’t seem to want Intel to fail, but seemed to be more of an acknowledgment that it was going to take more than one generation to right the ship. Financially, Alchemist wasn’t good for Intel, and they weren’t gonna throw money at a full Battlemage lineup that was too late in development to fix certain issues found after Alchemist launched. Instead they were going to try to be strategic, keep some kind of presence while they went back to the drawing board, and focus resources on Celestial and Druid where they could still make higher-level changes.
But among Arc fans, most of Battlemage getting sacrificed in the short term to hopefully make them more competitive long term isn’t the narrative they want to hear. They want a B9xx card that comes within striking distance of a 4080 for half the price to drop within the year and flip the entire market on its head.
Do you think theres any chance the 4090 cards will drop in price once this wave of new releases is out (4070 Super, 4070 Ti Super, and 4080 Super)?
I built my first PC in December, so I currently have no spare or old GPUs I can slot in for now. It's hard to justify buying one at these current prices(around 2k); however, I don't want to wait forever.
On a side note/question, this PC will be used for 3D, so being Team Nvidia and having 24GB VRAM is vital. Are picking up refurbished 3090s worth it, or for the price savings, should I just go for a 4090?
Most likely… not.
No chance because China is buying them for their ai industry. It will hold the price and if you get 4090 it will last you years. Depends what games you play and what resolution you're after. I bought a prebuilt recently it has 4090. Never seen anything so big before.yoy better have a good case to fit it.
Fuck no
@@user-xl6yo5dr6p seems like I picked a bad time to build a PC haha. I built it in a corsair 5000d airflow, so should have plenty of space!
Nope, I highly doubt it. That is why I bought mine early last summer. I saw the writing on the wall. ASUS TUF OC' for $1,700.
Dude that beer is fire!!! One of the best IPAs in my book
Used to love IPAs before they took up 80% of the craft beer aisles. There are some truly nauseous IPAs out there especially one particular brand brand that is overpriced and has bizarre art that I won't name.
