Do you get the feeling sometimes that AMD doesn't lower NVIDIA's prices but instead, NVIDIA raises AMD's prices?
This seems to be the effect of juggernaut almost-monopolies, like Apple, who inspires competitors to sell expensive stuff instead of racing them to the bottom.
Yep. You hit the nail in the head there.
"Sometimes"? AMD has been riding NVIDIA's price insanity since 2019 because they don't care about selling discrete GPUs anymore since their silicon is mostly sold to other companies. The only reason why AMD still "sells" discrete GPUs is marketing. It's basically free publicity for the brand
"inspires". There is no inspiration, there is simple greed. AMD thinks they can run "underdog" and "better for customers" gig while still rising prices and trying to hide in the shadow of NVidia's pricing. The only problem I see is that Tech world (magazines, UA-camrs, etc.) are not calling them on that as much as they do NVidia.
ermm yeah that is exactly what is going on, which is why we really need a 3rd player in there.
Would it not be lovely if AMD said "F it" and just dropped the price of everything by about 200 dollars? watch Nvidia panic.
These are not "almost" monopolies. They are infact monopolies, even if there are 2 companies or even three. Having only 2-3 choices in this market has been a problem for decades. But there's no protections for consumers from it anymore and why would anyone startup a rival when the system is set in the existing companies favor. Hell, it took Intel, another monopoly/duopoly to even break into the space. And even they are struggling wthl literal billions to burn doing it.
Couldn't buy decent graphics due to crypto and scalpers. Now they are just overpriced on release. So I am waiting. Probably like most disappointed gamers.
And by the look of things, those RX8000 are gonna be the most disappointing GPUs of the decade. So, one of those no-competition-generations for NVIDIA... Which is something that scares the hell outta me.
I've hit every crypto scalper boom in the past decade -.- I just want a midrange card that is midranged priced and doesn't feel gimped.
Even if graphics cards were available, pretty much all new games are mtx garbage and not worth playing anyway.
Might as well get something last gen.
I've given up on the Tech industry. I'm saving for a car and will put money into bettering myself and my future. The tech industry can piss off for all I care!
@@georgehubbs1747 good you were able to do that. I simply can't. It's the *one* thing I do for fun LOL
The Helldivers kerfuffle brings to the forefront a problem that is plaguing gamers; 10,000 different game launchers/game stores/spyware/bloatware/garbageware that you have to install and log in to for every publisher and developer and reseller in the world. I have no less than SIX different pieces of junk software on my machine that I can't uninstall if I want to play certain games. They almost all want to stay resident on my taskbar, running constantly doing who knows what and eating up resources and perhaps spying on me. Ubisoft's garbageware refuses to save my password if I don't allow it to run all the time and their password policy makes it so I can't use my standard low security password I usually use for such garbage apps that I kill ASAP when not required. So, not only do I have to wait 15 minutes for Ghost Racoon to launch I have to look up the shitty password every single time.
So, I get it. Sony is tasting the ire of millions of gamers who have been pushed to the limit of what they will tolerate.
I just don't get why, after so many examples of a game dev getting their balls toasted for requiring launchers and irrelevant accounts to be signed in to play, companies still... Fucking... Do it...
@christianrobloxserver7282 two goals: Harvest and sell your data and to bloat their ecosystem numbers to show growth to investors. $$$
I'm starting to think I should just raise the black flag 🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️
Steam's inception is when I noped out. I have stood my ground and lost. That will show them!
Is that why I have to change my ubisoft password so much lol?
I feel we need much better consumer protection laws against the changing of digital products after you buy them.
At the very least, Valve should step in and offer everyone no questions asked refunds without any regard for the hours played or time owned limits (especially in countries where PlayStation Network isn't available). And Valve should keep their 30% cut of the sale so that the money ends up coming out of Sony's pocket. Sony's the one who made the stupid decision and thus should be the one to pay for it.
Did you hear about the guy that bought that EV that needs internet authentication at all times, well the company went bust and shut the servers down, and now the car won't start.
@@SidneyCritic true, "digital products" is maybe too narrow here. Also, companies should be forced to open-source their service in case they shut it down.
@@mjc0961 I'm not sure Valve can do that though. It's not like they can just make Sony hand over money to them.
@@mjc0961they usually do actually. It's happened more than a few times with ubisoft and EA titles where a region loses access and valve offers a refund to affected parties
If paying for a product does not convey "ownership" then "piracy" is not stealing.
THANKS SONY...........
***sigh***
several "game" companies do that now....even hardware isnt yours in their eyes
Fortunately I don't buy anything I can't own. 😅
@@bugstomper4670 Doubt it
On the whole PSN & Helldivers 2 thing, something similar happened before, but didn't blow up because it was an old game. That was a few years ago with LA Noir on Steam. I was 10 hours into playing it, then a "patch" comes in one day and now forces people to make a Rockstar account, not doing so prevents you getting beyond the main menu. Steam refused to refund, thankfully I only paid £4.99. Would have took further if I had paid more for it, but moving goalposts in this manner after selling something just should never be allowed.
6700xt for $300. I'm not sure what the 7000 series goes for and what the future discounts will look like, but Nvidia convinced millions they need raytracing right now lmfao
6700xt is basically sold out, 7000 series is quite competitive, but nothing special, especially the RTX 4000 Super cards sell much better than their AMD counterparts.
Bought my rx 7800xt for just over 600$. But thats here in Europe so what the prices are in America i have no idea of.
the reality is gamer simply buy less and less. this also affect nvidia but in nvidia case their GPU also more popular on the semi pro side of things unlike AMD. in fact most semi pro end up being forced to go nvidia because of CUDA. and with recent AI craze the lack of sales from true gamer are being compensate by semi pro.
@@arenzricodexd4409 With rendering, I understand the choice to opt for Nvidia in 75% of applications, but raytracing was released 8-10 years too early. The same thing is going to happen with AI. I also have issues with Nvidia's marketing for AI given the way they present "up to 70% increase in organizational productivity & decrease in costs" as "70% increase in organizational productivity & decrease in costs".
pretty mutch every modern high end gpu is mostly marketing now. 4k 60 on a 27 inch monoter. becouse that makes sense. hdr 12 that just relly better contrast settings(sometimes). raytracing we will cut prefermance to about 1/3 of what rasteration can do for slightly better reflections.
Another thing too is, AMD 6000 series GPUs were such a good value, that the motivation to upgrade is also very difficult to justify.
Indeed. Still rocking a 6950xt and I'm perfectly happy with it. I could easily afford a new card but I don't see a point. I don't care at all about ray tracing though, so maybe I'm an odd one.
@@kevin9218 no 1 cares for NVIDIA gimics im a gamer from the 90's
Keeping my 6900xt from what I can tell it’s still keeping up with the 7800xt / 7900gre
@@kevin9218 until the consoles can do meaningful RT, it's a novelty on PC as gamedevs have to lead with tech that will run on Playstation. Nobody but Insomniac is really doing anything useful with it yet. It still gets bolted on after the fact to make games look _different_ rather than _better_
Have a 6750XT I got brand new for $300.. Legitimately won't upgrade for like 5 years
GPU sales down... almost like we have a cost of living crisis.
In all seriousness I keep putting off building a new PC, I want to build one, but is it wise to spend 1500 to 2k on a new PC... prob not
i thought the same then just decided to do it. i had the gpu and mobo from newegg lotto but needed the other parts because i'm still on bulldozer.
I felt the same but got an odyssey ark this past Christmas and got tired of gaming in 1080p on such a monitor. I really wanted a 4090 but i refused to pay $5-600 over msrp and picked up a mint 3090ti for $800 and paired it with a 13700k. Hoping to get a preorder on a 50 series card but who knows what those prices will be
Do whatever you got to do. I don't know why people hate consoles so much online, if that's your budget and it brings you joy why does that bother all these people?
But honestly the GPU is the real issue right now. There are great deals on every other component. GPU also you can grab some good deals on older hardware, especially the Radeon 6000 series, and maybe Intel Arc depending on what you play.
1500 to 2k on a new video card for your new pc*
I don't know what GFX card margins are, but I feel that if AMD can't compete at the top end, they could have cleaned up the mid-low range if they just f*cking priced their cards right instead of being greedy.
Just $100 less on all launches and there'd be no competition.
Margin on the mid range are bloodbath. Why did you think AMD said $260 RX7600 will be the cheapest RDNA 3 based card? The reality is even the sub $300 market the margin is already razor thin let alone at the sub $200. When AMD launch RX5600XT for $280 in early 2020 Sapphire said to build the card within it's MSRP price is almost impossible. And that's coming from AMD top partner.
the rx 6600 is the only good budget option right now
I am pretty sure AMD and Nvidia don't care about the sub 300$ GPU class anymore & also amd's mid low end offerings are pretty good value if you are okay with buying previous gen cards like the 6800 and 6750xt. Even 6600 and the 6650xt is quite good
100% correct. Their poor sales have to do with pricing cards too high for what they offer, along with poor marketing. NVIDIA just crushes them there.
@@highlanderknightAnyone who bought a non super, mid range RTX like a 4060 or 4070 on release, with little or no power to back it up, was conned.
Those drawn automatically to Nvidia because of sign value should get a PC case sticker that says "My other GPU is a 4090" or "The 6 was printed upside down on my 4090".
That's the mentality of the consumer... as long as the name is there.
Remember when spending 500 on a GPU was a big purchase and seemed wasteful? and now both AMD and NVIDIA see that as a starting price? I dunno but maybe that could be a sticking point, just maybe.
Remember when a big mac was 99 cents?
@@MiraPloy That was in the 1970's lol...
@bobbuilder6571holy crap the cpu price...
True but don't forget $500 in 2016 is like, $800 now
AMD pricing is too close or similar to Nvidia, meaning most buyers prefer paying the extra money for Nvidia GPUs. AMD needs to change its pricing structure.
In most parts of the world they always had similar prices.
The biggest problem is FSR being terrible. Even Intel's XeSS is superior as a latecomer. AMD is always several steps behind on features, and there's no denying that gamers do care about the features. Newer features like RTX HDR and VSR still have no competition, and it has become a pattern for over a decade. If AMD cannot convince people that they can deliver features that people care about that at least match Nvidia's (even if slightly inferior, but not grossly inferior), people will continue to buy Nvidia and pay the premium to be "safe".
@@zxbc1How many games support XeSS? How many games will support Sony’s new PSSR in the PS5 Pro launching in Q4?
@@tringuyen7519 If it's good, more games will support it. But XeSS is an open standard, anyone can implement it and there's a version that works for all GPUs, same with FSR, whereas DLSS is proprietary and only works for Nvidia cards. If XeSS and FSR become truly competitive they will get far more adoption relatively speaking. The reason most game devs opt to support DLSS is simply because of Nvidia GPU market share. It's a cyclic problem, and devs play a role in it too. There is an anti-Nvidia alliance brewing but mostly in the AI chips market. It's a shame that the gaming market is largely abandoned to its own peril since the consumers have literally no voice in the industry and are just lamb to be butchered.
Fsr in its current state makes AMD unusable for gaming considering devs are incapable of shipping an optimized product that doesn't require upscaling...this means there's really only one option for gaming gpus and its nvidia
They really need to concede that the 12VHPWR connectors are unworthy and unsafe and remove them from the market. If they're going to introduce a replacement to the 8-Pin then said replacement needs thicker gauge wires just like the 8-Pin has, not these fiddly little mini wires that the 12VHPWR includes.
It's like they don't understand how current works or something, I swear.
Well, I still have a 6800 XT, still working like a charm, why update… 🙈

@GewelReal well the cheapest 6600xt i was able to find new was $575 so not really a good idea.
and the 6650xt was about the same price as a 7600 (about $350) and the 7600 was just a smidge faster in the videos i saw so i went with that.
@@paragongoose983 question is if you play at 1080p yeah good buy, but 7600xt would be better when we both know how long time you are going to use a GPU.
@@GewelReal Nah, way better to get actual features than just a minor increase in fps. And the RTX titles that the 4060 will smoke the 6600/6650 in is just gravy. You might want to try out an Nvidia card and see what you're missing. Not to mention DLSS will keep a 4060 running new titles much longer than buggy/do nothing FSR could keep a 6600 relevant.
The AMD 6xxx and 7xxx have actually been pretty good for us. I have 4 systems in the wild using a 6600, 6800xt (myself), 7800xt, and 7900gre and everyone is very pleased with them.
They are all great products priced slightly lower than their nvidia counterparts. I don't understant why so many people avoid AMD GPUs.

I’m still trying to put together a high end MSFS PC and I settled on a 7900XTX as MSFS doesn’t support RT (yet), I only want around 60fps (TV limit at 4K) and it gives me a high end card with 24GB VRAM for half the cost of an Nvidia 4090 and less fire on the connectors.. which is good..
You got a shitty 4K TV, you don't need a high end PC.

@@alanharris2799 No, it doesn't because you can't utilize it with a shitty 4K Tv. The inches don't matter. It's older and even the current TV's are still not up to par because the price point hasn't dropped enough.

@@DeadPhoenix86DP How did it happen that my data be worth more than me?
What a world we live in.
Starting to feel very smug about not buying HD2
if I read that correctly, AMDs margins for gaming are low, which means price drops will not be a tool they will be able to implement easily to move inventory. So unfortunately for those with hopes that GPUs will get significantly cheaper...well don't hold your breath. I sincerely hope that my interpretation of that sentence is wrong, though, because I believe GPUs are too damn expensive these days.
Basically, yeah. I think if they thought they'd take big bites of the market they might risk it. But last time they tried that (again, I think it was Kepler era) they got burned. The very customers who wanted a cheaper GPU stampeded to Nvidia when the reduced prices a bit in response.
Some years ago AMD was having more than 60% of market share, was cheap but have lower margin than Ngreedia. NVIDIA was having fund for research and develloppement and AMD not. They have learn from that . . .
Why should AMD sell gaming GPU at a loss when it can make 80% profit on MI300 GPUs? AMD should prioritize shareholders over gamers bc Nvidia already does!
It's almost like people don't want to realize that the middle class is being eradicated. It shows everywhere, not just in the tech industry.

Hehe, A very good intro as always Joe and Paul!
The 12V POWER CONNECTOR is just a scam to make sure these cards don't last as long as the 1080Ti did. I mean there are still people using 1060's. A used 4090 from today will compete with the sales of 50,60,70,80, etc.. series cards. This is just a ploy to burn em all out before then.

@@laggmonstret Little bit of a different animal. I've been buy Nvidia cards for over twenty years. I buy them because they consistently function to an acceptable standard and I'm too chicken $h!t to switch. I was initially pumped for Intel's offerings, but the few reviews I've seen weren't positive.
I just want my stuff to work, I'm not a max preformer guy.
The 7900XTX can draw the same amount of power as the 4090. This is literally just the connector not being fit for purpose.
I thought it was settled by Gamers Nexus that 4090 connectors melting was due to users not fully plugging in their power connectors.
Is there any more to that story? Seems to odd to bring it up as a news topic and then not mention GNs testing.
I believe it was at first, but it's continued to happen with well made adapters and even fully seated connectors. IIRC there's also a couple models of the 12v high power connector out there and one is superior at keeping hold of the plug as well as makes better contact, but it was also found that when the connectors "click" they weren't actually fully seated, making the consumer believe they had fully plugged it in when they hadn't. Plus if they had seated it all the way after the click it still gave it room to wiggle out over time. Plus I think the sideband connector came into play at some point? I can't recall why and I'm probably wrong on that one.
Unfortunately companies latched onto the first thing and used it as an excuse to pass the blame onto the consumer. The connector is just all around crap and seems to be getting crappier the more we learn about it.

I could see amd drop out of the majority of the discreet gpu market to focus on the mid range and integrated and mobile. They just don't seem to have the resources to compete with nvidia and might be better putting the money into their cpu design as that is their biggest strengths.
High end GPU research is verryyyy important for AMD, not so much for consumer gpus, but more for their Datacenter products. I bet the issue AMD is having is fast communication between their chiplets on the high end cards. "Bascially the same reason the high end 7k cards underperformed compared to AMD's expectations"
@@dralord1307 Indeed, I was mainly thinking of the consumer market, where they'd have to push their chips faster than they probably want (hence the cancelled next gen top end chip design), when they can better use the time and resources on the Instinct range (Which use a different architecture to the consumer parts, CDNA vs RDNA). The datacentre with the AI boom is where the money is and they have to chase that given their growth with Epyc in that area.
@@dralord1307 I don't think the chiplets are that much of a problem. The Performance is fine in Raster, maybe the efficiency not so much. However, The Software is bad. Up until the release of Intels XeSS 1.3 a couple of weeks ago, I couldn't use a decent upscaler in Cyberpunk on my XTX. this meant neither Raytracing nor raster 4K60 Ultra were a viable option. Can't use DLSS and FSR and XeSS 1.2 are absolutely unusable. Switching to XeSS 1.3 Quality boosts Raytracing or 4K Performance by up to 90% on my XTX with almost 0 noticeable visual downgrade. It even makes Pathtracing perfectly playable.
The XTX Performs really well with these software solutions, even Frame generation. FSR3 works perfectly fine in Couch/controller scenarios however FSR 3.1 is nowhere to be seen and a Dev pipeline to implement it like nVidia has with DLSS is neither. Even Intel just popped up with a superior upscaler for AMD's hardware. This is a real problem for AMD, Because nVidia has all of this working NOW, even though AMD's Frame gen is superior even on nVidias hardware. I'm usually fine with the Raster performance of the XTX for example as I mostly simrace, but Upscaling and frame gen and with that, AI hardware, will be more important going forward as these tech starts working REALLY well, and multiplies performance AND efficiency at the same time. Going forward with newer titles, the nVidia/AI premium will become more and more attractive down the road.
Have you seen CDNA4, or how they went full ROCm with the 7900XTX even before the pro variant?
High-end GPU is very important. Some moves arent meant to pan-out on a gen to gen bases, as opposed to being long-games.
If you think they "flat-out" threw in the towel with the monster chip they just axed, you're missing a whole lotta subtext.
I would love to buy a AMD gpu but I do 3D rendering as a hobby too besides gaming. And if I compare the performance between the RX 7000 GRE and the RTX 4070 Super in the Blender benchmark... The Nvidia card beats the AMD one with over twice the performance score (Something like 6k vs 2,7k) for only 50€ more.
tbh Intel also beats AMD, and can be better value than Nvidia depending on your budget. Now obviously the Quadro series is just way better period, but that's usually another tier. Sometimes you can pick up an older one though for a great price. But I don't think they are good at gaming.
2:20 This has been my stance from pretty the whole time. Sure, raster performance is great but nowadays that's not enough to sell a GPU, buyers want more for their money (features features features) or 1.75x/2x the raster performance and it's a buy.
Love seeing your videos. Every time I see your videos I feel more informed . Looking forward to the days of seeing you making happy videos like Steve aka gamers nexus 😊
Why would you buy a 4090 and run it at 75% power?
Even weirder is how the MSI variants were power capped compared to others, some say in efforts to avoid this very situation.
The connector is flawed though. That much is evident by the semi-stealth revision
@MaddJakd yeah. At 650w your looking at 9 amps per pin which is quite a bit.
because you don't lose that much performance. The last 25% of the power gets you marginal gains and a lot more heat, so if you power limit it (since it doesn't undervolt like previous gens) it achieves the same thing.
@@mikeb6188 That just went in one of that kid's ears and out the other. They don't understand the tech, this is just their version of a football game to yell at and root for their team.
I've been underclocking my video cards for quite a while now. It's incredibly stupid that I pay so much for something only to cut it's power down, but performance loss is barely noticeable and room ambient temperature is VERY noticeable.
I Bought Amd Gpu to match my Amd Cpu its been awesome.
The best way to do it
I work in an engineering department for an OEM. The Intel blue screens aren't motherboard power limiter related. We know because our power limits are not only within spec they are conservative to the point we have customers complain that we limit the power tables too much. The problem is silicon based and Intel knows it.
Silicon sabotage! The uprising has begun!
And Intel is in on it!

What games other than Cyberpunk actually use ray tracing?
In my gaming library nothing.
No game to date demands ray tracing to look good.
Metro exodus (rtx edition), Dying light 2, Q2 RTX, Portal RTX,
Spiderman
Raytracing and 4K really benefit from decent Upscaling. Between FSR, DLSS and XeSS 1.3, FSR is the worst by a margin. There's no good implementation pipeline for FSR either. High FPS+Resolution i.e simracing in VR/triple 1440p (7680x1440p) also really benefit from upscaling and even Frame Generation. Both these tech are much better handled on AI hardware. All of this is rapidly improving tech that even at this point, works very well and will improve fast. It also works against AMD. I like my XTX, but Upscaling and frame gen at this point are real arguments for nVidia, and will only become more important as the tech improves. This was my last AMD GPU specifically for these reasons. I've tried these tech on my XTX and saw how good they work, but nVidia has all of this working NOW and on a wide scale.
AMD GPUs are done.. I'm starting to save $3K for 7060 when it will be relased in 2030 (price adjusted for future inflation, imminent banking system collapse).
correct GPU's are expensive, however you don't need to buy a new one every 2 years anymore. If you get a 4070 Super or AMD 7800/7900xt it will last you at least 4-5 years.
I just installed a 7800xt due to it being small enough to go into my case and playing cyberpunk and it looks totally amazing. Including improving my picture quality so I’d be quite sad if they stopped make gpu’s.
According to the internet, You are lying.
The reason is that we are satisfied with our AMD graphics cards, so why upgrade now? I will upgrade in the future to my next AMD gpu.
Thiccer pins and wires would fix that! But NO Nvidia and the idiot who designed the connector are too stupid to do the right thing. Every electrical thing shouln't ever exceed 80% of the current it can safely handle it is there for a reason!
But isn't that connector rated for 684W? And a 4090 should use 450W, so ~75%? An another note Nvidia wasn't the designer of the plug or cable, its PCI-SIG though Nvidia is a partner I guess.
The connector is not the problem here it is the wires just compare the old 8-pin wires to the 16-pin you will see what i mean. Wires also act as a heatsink for current carried. Get something that requires 2000 watts and connect it with a thin extension cable it will instantly heat and could even melt.

Eh, I did my part to support AMD in their first half. Bought a 7900XT after the new year and it’s been amazing at 3440x1440. I don’t stream and don’t care about RT or frame gen since I play FPS games. So AMD is built for my needs and I choose them over Nvidia.
Nvidia, like Apple, should raise the prices since people have no problem paying, as the sales numbers prove. They even like it and defend Nvidia at all costs. Even the overpriced low end 4060 sells like hotcakes. I imagine at least 50% higher prices for the 5000 series.
That's a lot of words just to say you wish you had one.
@@Veritas.0 Quite the opposite, I have a 6800XT and will continue with AMD.
4:30 AMD has had great cards in the past and everyone bought Nvidia anyway. Why should AMD be concerned that people want to buy cheaper Nvidia cards?
Exactly. Cards can be 10% cheaper and faster at the same time and people will still buy Nvidia. It's like the Isheep buying subpar apple product at 2x the price. You can't help these people

Love my 6800xt and 6950xt. Never used RT due to the hit to performance.
Hmmm maybe if amd gpus were more affordable...
Nvidia would drop their prices a bit and have their shills play up some new flashy AI feature. AMD'd just lose money.
Didn't work in the past. Why yall think that'll work now
170 countries has now been banned from sales of Helldivers 2. I think there are around 195 countries in the world. Thankfully Steam is issuing refunds but there are now 100,000 negative reviews since last week.
These countries aren't "banned". Don't use words unless you know what they mean or they represent a fact.
@fluffy_unicorn859 It's clearly not yours.
My gigabyte mother board in default was pushing 1.6v to the CPU. And of coarse my 360 AIO couldn't handle that much heat.
Everybody is waiting for next gen for gpus. It's 5 months away.
I enjoy my 7900xtx, no burn zone
You'll find that thermal paste as a lubrincunt takes too much heat away when you need it the most "" ho hmm"... Sorry!!
Interesting typo there. I think thermal paste helps thermal transfer so it makes more heat then lubricant and transfers it better.
(to be clear, I do not recommend thermal past as lube).
@@brianmiller1077 You are correct , my mistake and I think it also would be a much more health issues if the liquid metal thermal paste was applied....ouch!! 🥸
O yea, time for some tech news. Thanks Paul!
A lot of these failures are said to come from bending cables too tight.
If someone creates a hardshell pice power cable to the new Nvidia power connector, they would make a killing! You can't bend a hardshell adapter.
I used hardshell u bend adapters for my 6950. Makes the cabling so much more tidy.
I didnt get a PS5 cause of #Sony's policies. Haven't really looked back on this choice.
NVIDIA is setting the GPU prices with or without AMD... If there is something like competition, it's when the companies discount older products. But on product release, NVIDIA says - we are selling this for $1000, then AMD says - we have a product missing features, so let's charge $900.
Depends where you live, in the US AMD usually charges more than Nvidia on release. The benchmarks come in and the reviews kill them, they then drop the price to just under Nvidia, only a few fanboys buy it, then 6 months later there is a real price cut albeit it really only puts it in line with performance for price so isn't a deal. Then a year after that there's a bigger price cut that makes it a good deal but you're getting close to the next gen.
Thank You👍🤝👍
I recently had to buy an AMD GPU for work - to test our software. Looking for a white card to complement the computer it was going into was no easy task. I settled on an ASRock Phantom Gaming RX 7900XT 20GB for $710. I feel that the price of that card is where it needs to be, and the raster performance is respectable.
What a revelation, who would have thought $300 is too expensive for the entry price of GPUs, hope they go bankrupt with these stupid prices.
That's a weird hope in this industry.
Yeah I want a real monopoly so that my next video card requires a mortgage.
8:50 Paul. No... The devs didn't make the announcement. The publisher did. It's even signed with Sony Interactive Entertainment.
Uhm, The HD community reps DID announce it. And they DID push it. There has been a lot of backpeddeling and "Rep" account locking and all sorts of crap. Sony DID force it, but Paul isnt wrong either.
What’s your opinion on windows 11 recently
I have a 6800xt and don't play too many games anymore. I'm not upgrading until hopefully a 9800. Hopefully they make a pro or xt version so i can kinda recreate my original pc build with an ati 9800 pro!

I'm actually glad I've been falling out of love with gaming for some time now. The idea of absolutely wanting to play some recent AAA release but having to spend 300€ on a new GPU to even play it in 1080p is ridiculous to me. I got that sense as well, but I’m not sure where it came from. Gamers Nexus has done some great reporting on the EK situation and has tons of documentation to back it up.
No beef that I know of. They joke about each other every once in a while, but as far as I know, they are on good terms. They even meet up and chat at events like Computex, etc.
Nah. Just an overly dry-humor dig. I think it was one of those ‘sounded funnier when writing it’s things
Doesn't look like beef. He is just pointing out that the title of Steve's video is a bit.. Hmm exaggerated
Felt the same thing, like a sarcastic undertone, but then again, it was just probably a harmless jab at a joke.
Look, I should keep this brief, but ~ you guys just keep refusing to describe the situation.
AMD compete with Intel in CPU-space, and they compete with nVidia in GPU-space, right? So these are like the same kind of competition, right?
No, they’re not.
Trying to think how to put this briefly ~
Today, Apple is either the single most valuable company in the world, on market capitalisation, or very close to it. That wasn’t the case in the late ‘90s.
Microsoft were starting to face pressure over Anti-Trust laws, and their one real competitor in Operating system space, was bordering on bankruptcy.
So Bill Gates took a number of steps. To start, he went and bought a massive chunk of Apple shares to stem the bleeding of the company value. I don’t know that Billg ever became the majority shareholder but he very much became the single largest investor. Then he went and talked to Steve Jobs and demanded he come back and run his damn company again.
From that time until this, Apple and Microsoft are deadly enemies and competitors and ready to tear the other’s throat out in the market-place, right?
Yeah ~ right! If you believe that, I have a share in this big bridge in Brooklyn that you need to invest in ~
There really is competition between Apple and Microsoft, that’s true, but it’s a peculiar kind of brotherly competition.
OK ~ Now in CPU space, Intel and AMD are genuinely at each other’s throats for cash and sales and market share, and while Intel probably thought about propping up AMD at one stage, about the time Lisa Su arrived, they didn’t have to. Intel backed up AMD by mistake, by screwing up their process nodes and sacking half their engineering staff and letting the accountants and boardroom pirates run the company. They are in the process of recovering from that, but I’m not clear on how well they’re doing.
TLDR ~ the competition between AMD & Intel is harsh and it’s real and what you see is what you get.
The competition between AMD / Radeon and nVidia, that’s a completely different thing. Once again, there’s a little more to it.
AMD are an American company, and so are nVidia. But both have close ties to Taiwan. The CEO and and founder of nVidia, is Jensen Huang. The CEO and saviour of AMD is Lisa Su.
Lisa Su and Jensen Huang are family. They’re related. Jensen is Lisa Su’s uncle, or great uncle one removed by marriage or something. They sit across from each other at Christmas dinners.
AMD and nVidia have one kind of competition / relationship in gaming_space. They have another slightly different kind of relationship in AI space, and server / super-compute. There is competition there, it’s real, but it’s not quite the same kind of competition they have in gamer_boi space.
Neither one of these competitive situations is anything like the one AMD had with Intel in about 2005 ~ where Intel was quite literally giving container-loads of Intel CPUs to Dell to sell to the public at what-ever price they wanted, for the one and only reason to kill AMD and stack or hack the sales figures.
This is my point. You’re not taking into account the history or the nature of the competition.
====
Now ~ that’s some of the background. It’s not everything but it’s a start.
Add to that, you have tech-tubers like y’self, who have decided to take it onboard as a mission going forward, to repeat and promote and regurgitate certain versions of reality.
Irish Paul is here to tell yous all once again, that AMD is farqued and AMD are lost and AMD are going to be broke by the end of the month, if they don’t send me test stock of their next $5,ooo card, along with a hooker or two to blow me and put me in a better mind state. The problem is, AMD don’t understand gamer_bois. They make X-boxes and Playstations and they formed Radeon and they’ve been making the market since 1993 but they just don’t don’t know what they’re doing. Because we gamer bois are 34 years old but we still live with our single parent mum and we pay her $50 a week rent for the attic, and all we do is game, and you don’t know what you’re doing because you don’t understand what we think, what we feel, what gives us a boner, how and why we decide what we’re going to ask our single Mum to buy for us. AMD is about to go down the toilet because you don’t LISTEN to me, or get me blown to review a new product, and I started telling you this in 2008 and I’ve been bashing my knob on the keyboard ever since, and you just won’t fckun LISTEN to me!
Irish Paul is not the only one.
Gamer_boi sites are repeating the same pakka rubbish to each other back & forth and they’ve been doing this for the best part of 20 years. There’s a slight flavour of truth about some of it, but mostly it’s just blind echo-chamber repetition of something that had to have started as a college-boy joke.
Thing is, you’re been shuffling this joke around so long you’ve all forgotten it’s a joke. It has almost no basis in reality.
AMD have been making gamer_boi consoles since before most gamer_bois were born. The fact you howl and cry that AMD don’t understand the market doesn’t mean AMD are deluded ~ it means you are.
AMD do compete with nVidia, in gamer_space and in Artificial Stupidity space, but the terms and environment of that competition is rather different to the competition with Intel, and you tech-tubers have got some really strange ideas about how all this works and fits together.
Pretty much. AMD knows gamer_bois perfectly well. They ain't gonna get into a damn price war with Nvidia because gemer_bois will just buy Nvidia anyway, even if AMD has a better product.

I picked up a 6950XT Reference Card at a discount for my Debian gaming PC and it's been incredible. I'm a 1440p gamer and with a 5800x3d this is still a beastly machine in 2024. Plus the Linux support is just so far and away superior to what Nvidia is doing. I can actually run Wayland and game with AMD with literally zero configuration effort.
Bad timing for tech new since Sony reversed their stance on requiring PSN accounts for Helldivers 2 players less than 24 hours from when this video was likely filmed.
As an AMD GPU user I never understood why many die for NVdia. I bought an Nvidia GPU that I had to return because it was a stuttering mess most games for some reason. I bought a new AMD GPU and it all just works.
The Nvidia card probably tanked your CPU. On Radeon the scheduler is on the card while Nvidia dumps all that computing onto the CPU through the driver. In games where CPU matter generally Radeon cards do much better. Best example is Warzone/Modern Warfare where even though the XTX is 20% slower than the 4090 it's actually faster in this game by like 10% because of the CPU overhead...
That's not the nvidia card, it's more likely you have some other issue in your hardware
