As the ex owner of X100S & X100F, I totally agree with your statement that this camera is meant for personal & not for work(although you can). It is definitely a very personal camera for me. I bring this camera out for family outing & vacation, and shoot Jpeg sooc.. not worrying bout changing lens or bringing additional gears, focusing on shooting and… Having Fun !

I still have both the x100s and 100f The plan was to sell the x100s and use the the 100f. However there is still something magical about the images the the 100s produces !

@@richardwells1709 I kinda agreed with that. I cant pinpoint what exactly it is, but the S, if nailed focus, just has something more magical bout it. Could be the older sensor and lower megapixel.

The best part of this camera is that you adapt to the lens don't complaint about it and you just try to get the best shoot with what you have. If you purchase an interchangeable lens camera sometimes you don't know exactly what to choose in the variety of lenses you already have.

Couldn’t agree more with your deduction. I think think camera invokes the sense romance of taking pictures which is very appealing to people who love photography. Most people i know bought this as a secondary camera and personally I had so much fun in the process that barely feel like taking up my primary one unless it’s something that I’m ready to put in a lot of time and effort into. It is simply the most engaging camera to have with you in most occasions.

The sad thing is that the price even for a heavy used classic X100 became crazy. You can decide to get a Sony A7 classic or sometimes A7ii for the price of a Fuji X100 classic.

I think you finally nailed it at the end. If you're a Fuji shooter, you already know the simple pleasure of shooting with their cameras. They harken back to a forgotten time when photography, and the world for that matter, was a bit simpler. A time when the craft of photography was enjoyed instead of merely performed. A time when camera design was equal parts function and looks. Fuji seems to understand that a camera can be more than just a tool. It can look nice and feel good in the hand as well. Holding a Fuji just makes you want to go out and shoot with it. Never discount the way camera makes you feel. It wholeheartedly renewed my love for photography in ways I never thought a hunk of metal could. The fit and finish of Fuji cameras, and the X100V in particular, is stunning. It evokes feelings of nostalgia and leaves you wanting to produce not just pictures, but memories. I think it's important to know the difference between those two things. I have the X-T3 and the 23/2, so I technically already have this camera strictly from a technology standpoint. I'm buying it for the form factor and the ease of use, as well as the simple and aesthetically pleasing design. It's going to be the camera I use to document life. Everything form birthday parties and get togethers to smaller occasions like my son scooting in the street and drawing with crayons and markers on his bedroom floor. I call these life photos. Not having to worry about changing lenses will help me to remain present in the moment so I don't miss one

IMO eventhough from the technical point of view this camera is very good, social media played a huge role in making this camera overly popular. Even my buying experience about a year ago felt as if I’m buying a contraband 😅.
Tiktok and YT reels are swamped with the x100v posts, making it popular to wider young audience/beginner in photography , a market that was not originally intended for the x100v.
TT & YT is also one of the main reason why film cameras and recently old digital cameras became popular again and jacked up their prices. These digicams used to cost almost nothing while now, an 8MP canon digicam can cost us more than RM500
So yeah, social media has made these cameras overly popular and hence its scarcity

This is a very expensive and very limited camera. Everyone who buys it realizes this immediately. Simply a fashionable gadget. The X-E series has the same structure, and thanks to the possibility of replacing lenses, it offers enormous possibilities. There is no need to screw idiotic-looking :) and optically hopeless adapters onto the lens, as is the case with 100V.
"You don't have to worry about lenses." What an idiotic argument. You can also attach one lens to the X-E4 and not worry about anything, and what's more, the lens with much better parameters than the one in the X100V which is actually weak. As for the high price, the X100V is unimaginably expensive. You can buy much better cameras for this money.

A question to ask is why not the GRiii or GRiiix?
The GR has not benefited from the surge in 100V popularity. From a spec perspective the iii or iiiv should benefit from the 100V craze. Smaller, lighter, cheaper. At up to 1/2 the inflated 100V price these models (choose the 28 or 40mm FOV body you like) are a real bargain. Yes, no EVF, but it has IBIS and snap focus. Not as many film simulations by far but also pretty good.
I think that people are crazy purchasing an used 100V for a premium. Some audacious sellers are asking almost the same price as a used Leica Q. Very comparable cameras. Where as I want a 100VI I am also prepared to wait a year or two for the next 100 iteration. My current gear will more than comfortably get me by until the new model arrives.
We may not see another camera increase in value two years after release. I’m glad that Fuji is receiving more attention. Wish some of the premium would go into Fuji’s coffers.

I could write a book about this camera. While I find it unfortunate that it has become so popular as a result of social media trends, it's not a surprise. It's possibly the most pure camera of any digital camera I've ever used. It's the perfect cameras for a "night on the town" or a "walk through the city" or just any casual photography experience - while remaining fun and tactile. Glad I got mine before the used price was above retail. But I still couldn't get one new if I tried at the time I purchased mine.

Great video! It’s insane how this camera has taken off, I think TikTok has had a big impact. I always planned to pick one up later down the line, as I did with all of the previous generations - as what I thought would be a lower price. The RRP was already too expensive for a fixed lens camera. Little did I realise people would lose their minds 😂… TBh even if I owned one I’d probably sell it given the prices it’s going for. I’ll look forward to the next generation, let’s just hope they don’t overdo the RRP.

re: "made to look like" an analog camera. I would tweak that description slightly for Fujifilm.
There are other camera companies that half-heartedly jumped on the nostalgia bandwagon and offered gimmick cameras "made to look like" vintage analog cameras on the outside but they were poorly executed and felt like a digital camera with knobs stuck on.
The Fujifilm camera's external tactile nobs and buttons are thought through with input from photographers and actually feel right and logical. When I made the big switch to Fujifilm (XT-1) I never turned back or regretted it. That was the first time in years I wanted to grab the camera and enjoy the process of making photos.
Fujifilm takes their film simulations seriously!!
For example, Fujifilm held off releasing their amazing Acros B/W simulation until the camera processor technology could handle the complex algorithm they spent years developing...just for B/W! While other camera makers were content to slap on a desaturation filter and call it B/W film simulation.

yeea, right, but I'm so fed up with this "fixed lens, no flexibility" argument! The x100 is not a sports, landscape, architecture, studio, somewhat camera; it is a pure street, reporter, candid shot camera. Which focal lenghts (resp. picture frame) are used for that ? 28mm, 35mm, 50 mm - that's it! (I bet more than 90% of XPro pr Leica M users have these 3 max!). Fuji offers the 2 lens adapters and so the x100 shoots in 28, 35 and 50mm - perfect, enough, as flexible as ever needed !!! I'm so glad, that I have one :-) cheers Tom

It looks retro, easy to use, beautiful photos out of the box with the film simulations -- basically a glorified (and rightfully so) upgrade to their phone camera for people who want that extra "oomph" to their social media experience without the fuss of photography jargon and technicalities, for better or worse. It was one of the cameras I considered before getting my XE-3 so I could give a crack at lenses (which I prefer).
The gatekeeper in me wonders if the hype will ultimately end in many people dropping it, but I guess Fuji will enjoy the spoils so can't be all that bad. I have a bit of pessimism/gatekeeping towards the hype and the seemingly surface-level reasons why people went for it, but I do understand why: it's the same reasons I considered it as well -- beautiful both inside and outside and delivers great results. It's a fun camera. I do hope it helps people appreciate photography as more than just a way to get views and look aesthetically pleasing... the art and the camera deserves more than that imo.

It's a lovely camera but I just wish it had an ISO dial on the left hand side. Being able to use my XT2, and instinctively use the ISO dial to manually adjust exposure with my left hand, is something I would miss if I had an X100V.
But there's another thing, that not many people understand - the notion that people will just think that this X100V is a cheap camera is a false one. Once this camera became popular with hipsters, it also became a very visible target for thieves, many of whom are just as cognisant of the scarcity value of these cameras as we are. My old XT2 is hand painted to reduce the chance of being targeted, and then robbed. I certainly wouldn't want to use a nice shiny X100V in an inner city. With a lot of desperate people on the streets, carrying an X100V might be very risky indeed.

The major factors as to why the X100v is so popular are.
    Social media (tiktok,youtube and instagram)
Film photographers (who are trying to get into digital)
And the average person trying to get into photography .
Mostly because of tiktok , because people who wanna upgrade their own photography from there phones to a camera. Are usually being told that the sensor is doing most of the heavy lifting because of the film sims. And the jpegs straight out of the camera.
I dont really think it has to do with the shutter because most people buying it are people who dont really know photography.
And since vintage is the aesthetic nowadays it also plays its part

The 100V's popularity seems freakishly out of proportion. I found the X-E2S wonderful - it was fun and had the same form factor, more or less, as the 100v but with interchangeable lenses. I'd choose it over the 100V without hesitation. I'm a fan of Wolfgang Plattner's art on Flickr - he has so much fun with (a) a wonderful designer's eye, (b) an old X-T2 body and (c) excellent Fuji glass, e.g., the 16-55/2.8. I admire him for successfully putting the camera gear in its rightful place and giving all his attention to inspiration and delight. He has the 100V and uses it to wonderful effect, but he continues to shoot with the X-T2.

Love my X-T2 I see little reason to upgrade to anything newer. WIth the x100v the only thing you are getting is a slightly newer sensor in the X-Trans IV and some fancy new film simulation which Classic Chrome is already perfect. Also some better video features. Although I would love a 100V type camera to be my everyday carry camera. However I would want a GFX before anything else. As I can slap on a 23mm Fuji lens turning the X-T2 into the same form factor as the X100V.

@@jlindsay0709 an x-t2 with a 23mm f/2 lens is NOT the same form factor as the an x100 (any series). It's dimensionally bigger in every aspect and heavier to boot. I have an x-e4 with a voigtlander 27mm f/2 lens. That form factor is smaller than an x100v. And the Voigtlander gives character to the photos, unlike the Fuji 27mm f/2.8.

This is the 5th model of the X100 line and they have all had the same virtues. Each iteration is only slightly better than the last (though I am happy to stick with the X100T as I prefer the older sensor output and simpler menu system). The only reason the V has gone mental is due to silly sheep like people following a trend from social media. Most of those buying it and pushing prices high (as well as the used prices for the older models) will never use its flash capabilities to the full potential and it is unlikely they will ever really appreciate the benefit of the hybrid viewfinder. They would be far better off getting something like an X-E4 or X-T30, or even a Nikon Z fc.
All of the X100 line of cameras are fantastic, but they do have their limitations (which can be a good thing) and if one is not going to use the flash capabilities one is wasting one's money.

I just find the iPhone is better than this point & shoot. The camera is trying to be a Leica Q without a Leica’s refinements or full frame sensor. Plus the current prices are crazy. It sounds like Fujifilm will have a new version. If it could only produce a small full frame point & shoot.

I completely disagree too. You are saying the iPhone is a better solution and then suggesting a larger heavier and incredibly expensive camera like the Q2, saying that is the way to go. Yes the Q2 is beautifully made but so is the x100. The Q2 is certainly more refined and has improved IQ that’s clear but the Fuji is not far behind and for most users its doing everything they need. Full frame and apsc is pretty close. Fuji strategy is clear too and apsc has benefits I don’t need to list. Also iPhone pictures feel over processed not to mention the horrible ergonomics and poor user experience.

This is such blow hard nonsense.. 3 year old tech is "old"? not these days. A 3 year old camera is so close to what is being made now.
