    I haven't received my X100VI yet, but I think you can assign a spare function button to video capture, negating the need to go through the menu. @JustinTse can you confirm if this is possible?

    • @brownbear100
      @brownbear100 2 місяці тому +1

      Yes this is possible. Assign the function "movie recording release" to any function button (like the one next to the shutter button) if you like.
      But pressing drive button, then one click of the joystick up to enter video mode, is really no hassle. Sure, doing this the recording hasn't started - but being in video mode means the custom settings in the Q menu are now dedicated for video.
      In short you have 7 custom settings available for photo and 7 for video. This wouldn't be possible if all you had was a red button for video recording.
      But for those off the cuff moments when two clicks and a shutter press means you lose that moment, and this happens a lot, just assign video record to a button and it will use the last used settings.

      @@brownbear100have mine set the button next to the shutter, when press and it’s recording 👏

    • @jacquesgude
      @jacquesgude 2 місяці тому

      @@brownbear100 I've found it easy enough to just go to drive mode then toggle up one, as you mentioned. There is a slight pause when it switches over, so I may have to test the option you mention of mapping it to one of my function buttons. I'll test that tomorrow.

    • @MitchWebb94

      @@brownbear100 wish it would also automatically engage/disengage the ND filter alongside the movie recording release - would be great to ensure the 180 shutter angle is retained but then automatically disengages for photo mode again

    • @brownbear100
      @brownbear100 2 місяці тому +1

      @@MitchWebb94it's maybe not exactly what you're looking for but there is a hack for this using the Q menu ;)
      I tend to use the ND a lot with video, but with photography the electronic shutter up to 180000/1 has the same effect when not using flash, so tend to use that. So for all my C settings in photo, ND is set to off, but for C1 in video it is on. When I switch to video mode, the ND automatically engages, and when I switch back to photo it automatically disengages! Obviously you could do it the other way round if you preferred!
      I have only set two custom settings, C1 and C2, with M there for experimenting. C1 has ND Set to on, C2 set to off. So that's also how I turn it on and off for video. You can even set a fn button to toggle C1 on and off. So, when I want ND, I hit that and the shutter speed is also taken care of simultaneously.

    Had A7 IV 24-70 combo. I know it's big. Switched to X100 VI for a week and i regret and miss Sony every minute. APSC doesn't have depth and quality of the FF. I sold it after a week. Good thing i sold it over retail so i made money with hype game. But try before you buy X100 VI. Not much better than my iPhone 15 Pro.

    • @alphapapa4446

      I think comparing the X100vi/APSC to something full frame is pointless and disregards its use case and audience.

      I have a iPhone 15 Pro and the x100vi - I’m loving the camera over my phone!

      As with anything, you get out what you put in.
      Obviously any camera with a pancake lens won't be as responsive as a large, very expensive FF lens combo. I doubt you could possibly have expected otherwise.
      I'm sure you got the camera on the basis of all the wonderful images taken on the series by those skilled with an eye for composition and gifted with the ability to extract the best from the files to create images filled with artistic flair or emotion, aided by a compact camera that doesn't intimidate or make you stand out. Because if it was just for the looks, you were really setting yourself up for a fall.
      At the end of the day APSC is no worse than FF to the skilled photographer. It's all a case of the right tool for the right job. And for most people APSC or even M4/3 is more than enough, especially if they are more used to a phone as their daily driver. In your case it seems like it's as much the case of lacking the patience and willingness to learn how to get the best out of it. Because if it was no better than an iPhone, you must have been doing something very wrong.
      There are certainly negatives as well as positives with the camera. But if you aren't making use of the leaf shutter or aren't willing invest the time to understand how to get the most out of it, or don't value the viewfinder options, or have no intention of using the physical dials, you may as well buy a Sony travel Superzoom as a compact option - also better than an iPhone.
      It's a bit like buying a €2k mountain bike and complaining it can't keep up with the €5k racing bikes in a street race. Try going downhill off-road on that race-bike.

      F2 in FF DOF is F3.. pretty close to your F2.8 at 35mm.
      Saying it's not much better than an iPhone is wild.

      As an VI and 15 pro user I completely disagree. It’s somehow true, that on the little phone screen, the difference is not so good to see but already having a comparison on an iPad shows complete different worlds…

    Many UA-camrs show the Fuji X100VI with a dangling anchor, like dangling "earrings"... This looks very ugly, it destroys the aesthetic look of the X100VI. You belong to them...
