I want to thank you for one of your previous videos about cleaning your dogs ears. I have spent hundreds of pounds at the vets with problems with my rottweiler Eric shaking his head all the time . It was quite distressing and stressful for him. He has had extensive tests and been given lots of medication including steroids. Nothing has helped, meds work for a while and then the head shaking starts again. I tried using cider vinegar and water with a syringe as you suggested and he has stopped shaking his head all the time. Im delighted to see him feeling better. Thank you again

I mix coconut oil into dog food a couple times a week. That way it gets back into their teeth. I have toy poodles and they have always had plaque buildup. I also soak a q tip with coconut oil I set
A timer for 5 minutes, go over the plaques tooth. It softens plaque and its easy to pop off with your nail. I got the idea from human oil pulling. :))

I use diluted Braggs Vinegar with the mother about a teaspoon in my dog and cats meal every other day, Both like it drizzled over the green beans and the small amount of wet food Both gets kibble too. I have seen a change for the better in the hair and skin and seems to not bother them to eat it. I will sometimes put it in the water fountain for them too. Not alot but they do like drinking the water. Funny thing is both cats and dog eat the green beans first then the wet and then the kibble. My dog gets True Dog spray a few times a week on a non vinegar day and I brush with small amounts of baking soda on my finger or just brush with dog paste. what do you think?

Dr Jones Lately I've been giving colloidal silver by the dropper full and mixed in the drinking water. Also, oregano capsules. Seems to be working well on my beloved senior, Bliss. She has a blocked Perotid salivary gland, her breath smelled like death. Got rid of the bad breath, though not the calcium stone or whatever is causing the blockage.
Thank you for this video. Tula is such a sweet natured dog. I'm going to attempt to put some concoctions in Bliss's mouth by syringe. I was told that lemon juice or vinegar could help unblock the gland. 🤞

my bichon loves olive oil in her water, she won't drink much water unless she sees me add it also sometimes i'll add my miso broth to her water. what do you think about tea and honey? she is always wanting to drink my tea and if i leave it on accident she does drink it quickly. She also hates having her teeth brushed it's a real big issue but i still chase her around, and the best paste i have found that works the fastest is the baking soda but mixed with coconut oil instead of water to make the paste.
Tula is such a good girl, is she a truffle dog?

The dog in the picture with me is named Baby and she is an 8 year old Chiweenie rescue. The people who had her before knew she had terrible breath but did not take her to the vet. When I got her I checked her teeth myself and noticed she had severe tooth decay, gingivitis and could barely swallow water due to mouth pain. She actually had pus coming from underneath the gums of some of her teeth. Her breath was VERY bad. So I took her to the vet who removed half of her teeth and cleaned the rest and this has solved the problem. While watching this, I was thinking what about brushing with salt water? Thanks Dr. Jones and Tula!

I mixed a small amount of baking soda with coconut oil. brushed gum line n tongue also when in season I cut up watermelon, put few chunks into her bowl after she eats. i tried the green tea with ACV but it seemed it was to acidic on her stomach and caused upset stomach and breath smelled bad with belching. bought more watermelon and after she ate her breath smelled better with it being watery rinsed out her mouth better. Tried raw carrots but she only eats them steamed.

Great video thx my dog won't go near apple cider vinegar it's too strong for her! But it's great for the mouth/teeth after a meal. Baking works good too! My dog loves raw carrots! I just fight with her to brush her teeth! But she will let me scale her teeth! After i brush them and put ACV-(only about 1ml) in or Baking Soda in her mouth.

I can't stand the awful dog breath from from tartar so I've been brushing my dog's teeth every day ever since he was a puppy and he actually enjoys it because of the chicken flavored toothpaste. He's never had to have a dental cleaning and he's 6 1/2 years old with NO tartar. Its one if the best things I've ever done for him consistently. People think it sounds silly to brush a dog's teeth but it really helps prevent tartar from building up and the disease in their gums can actually affect their organs which is scary!

I found the most effective way to get a dog to drink water is to put a piece of their wet food in it but watch out because they will drink the entire bowl to get to the food! So on hot days if they haven't drunk and we're about to go on a long walk I just put a little bit of water over their food instead.

I have an almost 14 year old papillon/chihuahua mix. He is extremely skidish and jumpy and has never let us in his mouth. We tried early on, but it just seemed to stress him out. Of course, now his teeth are basically black/gray and filled with tarter. He doesn't act like his teeth bother him. Is there anything we can give him to calm him down so we can possibly and at least minimally clean his teeth without putting him under? We've tried the water additives to no avail.

Hi Dr Jones. Can you make a video about cystinuria by dogs?Do you know anything about the disease and how to treat it.Because i have a staffordshire bullterrier male who has this disease. I live in The Netherlands and i have the feeling that the veterinarians here don't know as much about it as the veterinarians in other country's.I give my dog Hills U/D and he is castrated. They removed 2 cystine stones last year and now he has many chrystals again.I had to find out by myself that there is medication that could help prevent forming the crystals/stones.My veterinarian consult a specialist in another city after i asked about medication. And they confirmed that there is a medicine called Metalcaptase(penicillamine).I know in other country's they have Thiola and another one, i forgot the name of it or maybe it is the same as the penicillamine.I'm going to try the Metalcaptase for 3 weeks to see if it helps.

***PLEASE HELP ME . BAD SMELLY DOG ***** I just came across your videos. I have an 10 year old Bichon Frise that I rescued 2 years ago. He was in really bad shape when I got him. He has a skin allergy * he is on medicine but the vet told me only give it to him when I see him starting to itch * and he is starting to smell really bad. More than normal. Will it be ok if I was to try to flax oil with him. Or maybe the apple cider vinegar rinse. Or maybe the Selsun Blue. I need your suggestion. And he has terrible breath. OMG it is like something died in his mouth. I tired brushing his teeth and he doesn't like it. I do have him groomed every 3 months and they do brush his teeth but I don't seem to do it right and he fights me and I don't want to scare him. He was badly abused and I don't want to make him scared of me or hurt him. I have tried these drops that I put in his water. I got the spray at a pet store. I have finely chopped parsley in his moist dog food. Nope he wouldn't eat the food. I love my dog very much. And I love his doggy kisses but not with that terrible breath. Makes me gag. Even when he rides with me in the car, my car smells like his breath. I might try to green tea with the syringe. I just need some HELP.... What can I do ???? Thanks. Hope you read this.

I know this video is about doggie bad breath but...
Years ago I had a cat with horrible breath right from kitten hood. I took her in for an exam of course because of her young age and her predisposition to dental disease, being a brachephalic breed. She had a thorough examination and we kept a close watch on oral health throughout her life but he determined that she had naturally smelly breath. Had nothing to do with her diet. She was actually on a raw diet and this was 38 years ago. We other diets but nothing helped.
I learned at that time from him just as you have confirmed that not ALL pets have naturally good breath.
The thing this, you have to know your own pet's breaths particular odor and what IS natural for them and what IS abnormal. Most people think all pets are supposed to have odor free breath and that's just not true just like it's not true with humans. Sulfuric compounds cause bad breath and affect some more than others. You do have to be on top of self exams of your pet's oral cavity and watch out for signs that things aren't right. Not eating... drooling... losing weight... bad breath... dropping food, etc.
My cat had none of those symptoms other than bad breath at a very young age. This was her normal!🤢
I learned what the difference was in breath that wasn't normal for her and what was normal. I've never forgotten that.
Bad breath can aslo be a sign of digestive problems (constipation/obstipation), the breath can actually smell just like poop because there IS poop backed up. My vet demonstrated this to me by opening my cat's mouth and saying smell this, what does it smell like to you? It was poop. He was badly constipated. This is something I learned in more recent years!
I'm always checking my boys breath/ mouth when they're feeling a little off. It can tell you a lot. Kidneys, diabetes, dental disease, digestive problems, chronic dehydration can make breath smelly too. You can also look for signs of anaemia or bleeding while your looking in there.
    Thanks for this video!❤
    Oh yes..
    A few other things.
I do brush my cat's teeth.
And for those who free feed or leave food out in the evening. ..
I don't free feed. I stopped that years ago.
What they don't eat after a certain time,I pick up. They are fed on a schedule. Only if I am going to be away for the entire day into the evening would I leave out food. I don't let them eat and then go to sleep with food particles left in their mouth all night.
I brush their teeth and give them ONLY one treat to praise them for being such good kitties!) I try to wait until the last thing at night so they're finished with food.
Just like with humans, food particles left in the mouth overnight cause tooth decay and bad breath. Usually they want a drink of water after brushing so this is great opportunity to have several fresh bowls of water available, especially for felines who in most cases do not have a great thirst drive.
If your pet just doesn't like a toothbrush, you can simply use a plain gauze wrapped finger and get the job done very quickly. The main objective is to get the sticky plaque off. I don't always have pet toothpaste available so sometimes I just use the toothbrush or gauze on my finger. (Plaque starts to harden into calculus/ tartar in about 48 hours.) It's less abrasive than a toothbrush for pets with sensitivity issues. I used this for years with a kitty that a dental disease due to a liver shunt. I find this method works very well with felines and I've tried a lot of methods. It probably would be beneficial for small breed dogs as well. I haven't ever been bitten in case anyone is wondering.

    Hello Dr. Jones,
I Pray you and your family are doing well 🙏💙
Thank you So Much for all the videos that you provide for us to View in order for us to take care of our fur babies. I have a five-year-old half Chihuahua half Chinese crested baby and it is very hard to brush her teeth. I do have the syringes and I will give the green tea and apple cider vinegar a try. I wanted to ask you if you can tell me a way I can remove a baby tooth that is stuck in the same cavity as her fang. I see the way she chews her Food . She eats Really Well but, sometimes I just feel like it bothers her. I'm on disability with a fixed income and my veterinarian wants to start with $200 is there anything I can remove the baby tooth here at home ? When my veterinarian saw it he even try to use his thumb nail to push down and scrape down to see if her tooth could be removed.
But unfortunately it's really stuck in there. He told me to buy the doggie dental kit and scrape downwards. Is there something I can give her to sleep while I remove the baby tooth? is it possible for me to remove her baby tooth here at home in a safe healthy manner??? Could you please recommend something I could do to help her Enjoy her eating her food comfortably ? It doesn't hurt her I just see the way she chews her Food and I imagine it frustrates her at times. I think it's bothering me than it's bothering her because she cleans her bowl and will still beg for some of my food as well 😂
Thank you for any suggestions 🙏🐾😊💞

You are lucky you can get a brush into Tula's mouth. With my one dog you would swear I was trying to punish him by introducing a tooth-brush into his daily routine. He squirms and resists. But I shall give it a try.
Thank you for your awesome videos.

LOL Dr. Andrew! I'm using coconut oil, with a rubber finger brush. "OIL EVERYWHERE" I'm going to try the green tea, and vinegar. I use baking soda myself, but my girl Ashy no way!!! And wow does she ever loch her jaws, and lips to where I have to pry my finger in there! I thought Tula did pretty good! Blessings💝

When I was adding a pinch to about a gallon sized bowl daily, every other week for nuetralizing Chu chus tumor, (which shrunk to 1/3 of it's original size over several weeks. Bella was allowed to drink freely from the bowl, & her bad breath went away!

I mix baking soda with coconut oil and use a baby tooth cleaner that's a soft silicone finger cot with soft, tiny bristles on one side. Green tea has caffeine, are you using decaffeinated tea?
My dog also gets an antler 'bone' to chew on which supplies calcium and is hard enough to scrape tartar from his teeth. He also eats a raw diet which does not give him bad breath.

The broth is an interesting idea but you aren't concerned with the added sodium level? Those stock products are usually high with that. Tula is gorgeous - my pups were going crazy 😂

I buy sodium free chicken broth and stock. My concern is not leaving the broth+water around for more that 2 hours to avoid spoiling. I use a tooth cleaning additive, it's slowed down plaque, until the next cleaning which I hope to avoid for one more year. I'm also trying liquid Deer Velvet.

My miniature poodle has fear aggression and she will not allow us to handle her mouth, ears and paws. The only thing I can try is get her to drink more. I buy beef marrow bones for her to gnaw and on with the idea she will scrape off the plaque and food off her teeth. Your poodle is very passive and calm whereas mine will probably take my hand off if I try to put anything in her mouth. Thank you for a great channel and all your super information.

My 10 year old beagle is schedule for 2 teeth (or more) extractions here Down Under in Australia which will cost me $1,800. The $$$ for the procedure is not an issue, what I am EXTREMELY nervous about is the anesthesia risk although my dog is otherwise very healthy. He injured his teeth while eating bones and the vet explicitly told me that recently Australian vets do NOT recommend bones (of course raw) for dogs (pancreatitis and teeth injuries reasons). I checked with four best vets in town and they all recommended extraction (one is the big upper canine tooth). I wonder what is more risky - anesthesia or leaving the teeth in as they are and not have them extracted...but then he probably has a toothache and of course that's not what I want for him either.

HI- good question. I would probably not rush in and extract my own dog's canine tooth unless it was either abscessed or fractured past the gum line.

    • @howdoesitgetbetter
      @howdoesitgetbetter 5 років тому +1

+Veterinary Secrets THANK YOU VERY MUCH Dr. Jones for your reply. Your book Veterinary Secrets inspired me hugely, every dog carer should have it! My dog's canine tooth isn't abscessed nor fractured but due to the injury while crunching on a bone, part of the gum has detached and food particles are collecting underneath it. He doesn't always allow me to clean his teeth and so naturally, the bacteria penetrate further causing the gums being inflamed. I do spray colloidal silver on his teeth and gums after every meal and I also use Manuka honey (MGO 400, highest grade) together with liquid homeopathy. Two Vets suggested extraction just by looking at his gums without any dental X-rays. Your answer made me consider that maybe it would be wiser to have the dental X-rays done to see how the canine's tooth root is affected and if extraction is really necessary.

Hi! Love your tips! I accidentally discovered that vanilla helps “mask” the not so pleasant taste of apple cider vinegar!! Do you know if vanilla is ok for dogs? Or maybe they don’t mind the taste of apple cider vinegar?? Anyways, you and Tula are great!!! :)

Be carful with baking soda. I had an upset stomach, I was drinking baking soda and water, my dog Macy drank it and started vomiting and diarrhea. It was so scary I took her to the vet they told me that it could stop her heart, I tried to run her over to the animal hospital and they took more than an hour to see her. I was like I guess they don’t think this is that important, so I left. She was fine after that. God bless. I love your video. You and Tula are awesome.🌹😊🐶⭕️❌⭕️❌⭕️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️🌊💦💦💦💦💦
