Suggestion for the reaction between the soap and the apple cider vinegar. Soap is alkaline and vinegar is acidic. Combined, they neutralize each other. Vinegar reverts the soap to its original oils. Soap cancels vinegar's ability to cut through scum. Instead we use a weak apple cider vinegar rinse (water + vinegar) that we prep beforehand and pour over our dogs after the water rinse. It removes any soap buildup and makes their fur soft and manageable on top of the other benefits. I do that with my hair too after shampooing! I am a soapmaker who has been at it for over 10 years.

Hi Patricia - do you do equal parts of the vinegar/water final rinse? Do you use distilled or apple cider? One of my dogs is a Lab..always find it difficult to have anything "stay" past that under coat!
      Thank you.

I had great success with the shampoo but it did not lather. I will definitely try using the shampoo first without the vinegar and then rinsing with a dilute apple cider vinegar solution. My dog had immediate relief and the skin redness is almost completely gone in less than 24 hrs. It's so nice to have simple remedies like black tea and cider vinegar in my tool kit. Who would have thought!

Love your advice, my 8-year-old cattle dog has the same condition talking to the vet vet said it was a food allergy. After $100 for the visit less than 10 minutes, another hundred dollars for antibiotics a month later my dog still has the same condition I pointed out the source of the scratching the vet said nothing. I seriously think today's vets set you up to keep coming back to spend more money with no Solutions. It refreshing to have a vet explain explain the condition end the solution that makes sense. Also on your advice we've also started making our own dog food four dogs. Thank you so much and we've been tuning in to your UA-cam Channel and have subscribed.

Love your tea shampoo!!! Tempted to try it myself.. lol Ok so my question is, would Rosemary or lavender tea made from fresh herbs work as replacement for essential oil & black tea? Also, what do you think about bay leaf tea as a topical treatment? I use bayleaf & cinnimon tea on my hardwood floors around dog bedding because I know fleas hate both & they smell nice together. I usually add a couple teaspoons coconut oil to my Chow chows shampoo & makes her coat illustrious especially after drying & brushing

thanx for posting this video I have a border collie infested with flees and a cat who is on his last legs, the flees have really gone to town on them, as you bathed Angus you reminded me of me putting Gatsby in the tub yesterday, today it is worse and I still found more fleas on him as well as new bites, he is scratching all his hair off, I put coconut oil on him, he has even been treated with flea treatment which does not work, it was rough getting him into the tub, really appreciate all your natural and holistic methods on treating our beautiful beloved pets, gotta love the spots on Angus's legs

just found you today while looking up Oregon Grape Root on youtube. hope to learn a lot more from you.. i had to learn about my bichon who is a rescue by trial and error and a lot of research once I saw you didn't use oat shampoo i knew to subscribe to you. I make this shampoo but use water/castile/tea tree then rinse off with the half water half braggs apple cider vinegar and it works like a conditioner and stops her itching.. but you gave me an idea to use rosemary tea instead of water.

I used a plastic water bottle that has a spout that opens and closes. That allows me to direct the soap in all areas as well as the areas that need attention. I also added some Sovereign Silver to the mixture because some of my dogs spots are raw.. I also added some aloe vera juice to help with the skin irritation.. seems to be working great. I need to bathe my dog a couple times a week since her skin infection is severe in some areas.

@@thefostfam Unfortunately since I am away from home I have not been able to bathe her as often as I like. It does stop the itching and helps loosen the black scaley patches. I should be able to bathe her more often soon. I used tea tree oil in the mixture and she became very sick the next day so I am going to make a new batch without the tea tree oil. I am using the Castile Soap that has Hemp and Tea Tree in it so I believe that adding extra tea tree oil was too much.

After many visits to the vet, we tried everything for my dogs skin issues. Nothing prescribed worked, nothing over the counter worked. It was a horrible time for my lab/shepherd mix. I decided to go ahead with the expense of getting to the root of her issues, instead of treating them. We had her tested for environmental allergies. While waiting for the lab results, I decided to stop all meds and medicated shampoos and creams since nothing was giving her relief. I had many people advise me to try Benadryl. I hate the way that stuff makes me feel, so I wasn't too keen on giving it to my baby. I was so distraught about it, but gave in. I gave her 2 in the morning, and 2 at night. Within three days, her itching and licking completely stopped! Her skin under her armpits and belly had turned black. She was on an antibiotic and nothing else. I was a non believer in the Benadryl. I can't say enough, how wrong I was. Her lab results came back and out of 50 things tested, she is allergic to 22 of them😞 So allergy shots are next so maybe one day she can be off the Benadryl. I'm a believer.

My dog had clumps of fur & skin falling out this summer...at first it looked like just dandruff-like white flakes then it turned to bumpy dark & hardened clumps of skin. Bald spots on his left side started appearing. After many vet visits and then specialist visits, he was diagnosed with Cushing disease. He’s on meds for it but is doing worse everyday. He’s lost 10 lbs and he has lost muscle mass and is skinny and his ribs are showing, even tho he is eating a decent amount of food. Patches of hair loss now cover his body, with black, hardened and sometimes bloody chunks of very hard skin falling off. Can you talk a little about Cushings Disease and what else I can do to keep some weight on him? He is an 8 y/o Beagle-Bulldog mix and we fear that soon we will have to put him down since he’s so listless and has trouble even getting up and down steps now... or even wanting to go out to pee or poop lately. What else can we do to give him quality of life? Thank you.

This is just awesome! I've been looking for a homemade dog shampoo recipe for my Lhasa girl. She's pretty itchy and keeps biting herself sore. The vet suggested an oatmeal shampoo and I've bought already, but just read that it isn't good for yeast/fungal infection. I'd rather use a homemade product to help her heal. Also, do you have a video on diet for yeast/fungal infection?

Shampoo Recipe for Dog's Bacterial/ Staph Skin Infection (secondary to fleas/ allergies):
    1) Comb thoroughly to help remove fleas, scabs & bacterial florettes.
    2) MIX IN ORDER to prevent curdling: 1cup black tea (20min steep & cool), 2Tbsp All-natural Castille soap, 2Tbsp Apple cider vinegar (antibacterial, antifungal), 5 drops each Lavender essential oil (antibacterial, antifungal, Antihistamine) & Tea Tree oil (must always be used diluted)... shake jar well.
Wet dog thoroughly, lather & let soak/ massage for full 10 mins before rinsing thoroughly.
Dry well, pay special attention to the ears... wet ears breed infection. Put cotton balls (or TP if nothing else) in ears during baths to keep dry, swap out when soaked.
Optional: Slather skin at end with EVOO, coconut oil, or sunflower oil to soothe irritation & retain moisture.
    Good luck 🤞😺🤞 and...

As a pet parent of a 14 year old mini dachsund, he had a similar issue in the groin area with dry scaling skin and hair with the same issue of black specs along with yeast smell. Yes, it was yeast. Instructions were remove black specs, bath with our HyLyt shampoo and spray the area three times daily for a week. Then as needed. MalAcetic Ultra. Totally gone within 5 days. Same problem with yeast and mites two years ago. Vet put med in his ears via a syringe and the use of MalAcetic Otic twice daily for a week. Gone and his hearing is excellent! Key for us is check him before bed when brushing hair and teeth and smell the ears along with checking ears with a q-tip. He loves his nightly routine and his reward after is a blueberry or two. Also, wash bedding at least once a week and having a long hair doxie, make sure he is dried with a cloth diaper or receiving blanket after coming in from the rain.

My Doberman has mange, down here in SW Florida it's a common thing for rural dogs. I've pointed it out twice to my vet, thinking all her itch bite itch was a skin allergy. He barely looked at it and since it's been over a year now its gotten worse. I've researched online and have made her comfortable but that's not good enough. Any suggestions?

Here's one suggestion....get a new vet. For your vet to dismiss anything like that is crazy. If it is mange, it's even worse.

Pat, I would if I could. However, I live on a very limited budget and the Humane Society vet clinic is the only way I can go. It takes me a year to save up the $280.00 fee for her annual checkup. I have to have her checked each year in order to buy her Bravecto (sp) every 3 months ($60) This vet wanted me to spend over $500 for dental removal and care when I showed him Kleo's lose front teeth. I stopped giving her rawhide chews, they firmed right back up and she still has a mouthful of teeth.
I'll find a way. Thanks for caring.

Naples, Fl. Yup, and that's with the Humane Society. I recently called a spay & neuter clinic (wrong clinic) and they wanted $200 to spay a cat. I freaked and told the woman that's what I paid for my 80 lb. dog. She said they charge $700 for that. That's when I realized I had the wrong clinic.

@@antsquirly7654 you can get Bravecto online too. Almost $10.00 less. Just have the vet write you a prescription and fax it into the online store. Food is also less expensive online. I dont know if I can put the website on this thread, though. Are you on FB?

My dog is really struggling. She does have several scabs and consistently itchy. She truly guards her back area and turns her head like the dog in the video as if it hurts her or something. Any advice on the questions above is appreciated :)

It usually goes away with the shampoo use. If it keeps coming back, there might be underlying issues that needs to be treated. If so, please visit your vet for thorough examination.

Recently my dog had surgery to remove a mammary mass. She now has what looks like to me, a staph infection. We're triyng to keep the stitches and wound clean and dry but it's weeping incessantly. We took her to the vet again yesterday, now over a week since surgery. They did cultures which have ot be sent out taking 5 to 7 days for results.
She was put on antibiotics IMMEDIATELY AFTER the surgery, they did not work that's clear so yesterday they put her on aiddtional antibiotics alongside the one that did not work. The intenral stiches are dissolvable some have surfaced and the vet pulled on out yesterday. POOR DOG and we are all upset here at how this all turned out.
We tried to put a t shirt on her and that made it worse by holding moisture in but even airing it without cover NOTHING is working!!!
My question is. WHAT can we do to help speed up her healing, to stop the weeping and pus??? It's just so AWFUL.
This is now DAY9 since the surgery. Can we wash the wound area at all??? Something , ANYTHING.....

My shepherd is itchy and has scratched all the hair off her sides and belly. The skin turned black on her belly and she started itching at the point of her hip and I found that the skin is gray and flaking, and her fur is very greasy. She has no fleas though. She's so uncomfortable, has lost a ton of weight and I am very worried. I'll try to see if the shampoo helps her at least get some relief.

My English Setter had very serious skin problems, ear infections, and skin parasites. The vet wanted to give her a chemical dip. Along with that, the doctor prescribed heavy antibiotics, and steroids. I said no to the chemical dip, but the antibiotics wiped out her immune system, and she developed an auto immune response. It was aweful, and the dog suffered for 6 months and was close to death. I took matters into my own hands. Turns out that commercial dog food was the problem. Now, I make my own dog food. Also, "N-Zymes" saved my dog. Check out their products. It's been a year, and my dog is 100% cured. No skin issues, no hair loss, no more infections, and no more parasites. She's a real beauty again. Never feed your best friend commercial dog food. Never!

Cook meat in a skillet until just done. Remove from heat and add the chopped veggies. Veggies must be as finely chopped as possible. I also add 2 tbsp melted butter to each meal for added fat.
