Virgin Coconut oil is the best for a leave in remedy about 2 or 3 days apart. If your dog has redness or sores where the scratching occurs, I find that Aloe Vera (from the plant, not the tube) works very well for spot healing. It's also edible so you don't need to worry about licking that off either. Edit: As a preventative measure, sea salt baths are great. Better yet, a swim in the ocean! It helps as an anti-inflammatory agent and it also helps the skin retain its moisture along with a long list of other benefits. I don't even rinse my dog off with fresh water after being in the ocean. I just wait until dry or towel dry if time is a factor, followed by a good brushing. Edit again: Speaking of brushing, you should brush your dog everyday or multiple times a day if possible. It gets rid of old hair, dander and stimulates the follicles/skin to send blood flow to the area. Everyone knows that increased blood flow means an increase in healing speed.
I have fruit of the earth aloe vera gel and when I looked it up, it said it's dangerous for dogs to swallow. I know you said the plant but I'd double check that first.

Beautiful Dog!!!!! If you microwave your coconut oil for less than a minute it liquifies and remains that way for quite a long time. My dog gets a tsp in his food and I take 2 tbsp every day.
Tnk u for the tip. I will give to my dog.. Shes itchng. I wiped the skin or areas she kept licknh. No ticks or fkeas and i had her full groomed and had her fur trimmed very short. I started using a new batch og shampoo and conditioner, plus dematting spray. Could be d culprit. Plus, new treats. Oh my
Just to mention - don’t use refined sunflower oil. Make sure it’s pure cold pressed. The refined (chemically extracted) stuff is what me and my dog are allergic to. If you can’t buy it, make it.
Thanks Dr. Jones, luckily there's available virgin coconut oil here. My dad made the oil for family use. After watching your videos I will apply to my fur babies itchy parts of her body
I have been using a mixture of coconut oil and cold- pressed rape seed oil on my Jack Russell’s tummy and it helps the itching straight away. Decided to try it as I already use it on my skin. The reason I started adding the oil was to make the solid coconut oil spreadable. So thanks for your information and good to know my instincts were valid. And of course it is lickably dog-friendly.
your suggestions have been immensely helpful..THANK YOU for sharing. I am a senior on a very limited budget and cannot afford to to take my dog to a vet for the ailments you have shown . Not only have you helped give care to my little dog, but to my budget- THANK YOU
Coconut oil.... gr8! I was also given info re dustmites causing itchiness...solution is 1/3 white vinegar - 2/3 water...do in a litre spray bottle shake well - spray all areas in courtyard... particularly dusty corners... fibd this helps....

Thank you so much for all you wisdom and care that you share with so many! I read comments here often and love that you are so cherished and appreciated. I have 6 large dogs and although when needed for emergencies or vaccinations we see vet regularly, but for conditions that I can manage or treat at home without incurring high cost or the stress of the vet visit for the dog, I feel better doing it myself. Also I love that I am not stuck giving large amounts to pharmaceutical companies and dealing with potential side effects and harmful chemicals! You have a special spirit my friend! Thanks again from so many!

This is wonderful for dog's skin. I used to use it everyday on my 3. Had to stop because they were turning each other into lollipops. They would sneak behind my back and lick it off of each other. Now instead of rubbing it all over them, because coconut oil is an excellent flea repellent too. This is mainly why I used it back then. Now I just use it in small amounts. Neem powder is great too for doggie icky skin. Fleas, ticks and mosquitoes hate the smell of it too. As do dogs too. But it works nice on their skin and keeps those pesky blood suckers away.
Thanks for confirming the coconut oil remedy. I’m going to try that for my dog tonight. I have eczema in my ears and have been using coconut oil in my ears a few times a week so thought it might also be good for him 🙂
Hi Lindy, I started using the coconut oil recipe 2 days ago on my very ichy little dog and I can already see the difference. PS: He licked some of it off and doesn't want to get up so fast. lol Helping him sleep instead of chewing on himself during nite 😴
@@Lil_HandGrenade possibly, but not so much that it affected his movement. He usually jumps out of his cage and out the door. (Not a caged dog, his home, his procession, does not want me to touch his bedding). Maybe just sleepy. The skin around his tail is not so raw now. He is not biting it so much now, so much he had sores. , Will keep using and give update. Update...still no itchy problems. No soar patches from him chewy on his tail. After watching many of your videos, I now think that it’s a combination of all of the things I’m doing.❤❤❤
I have adopted what appears to be a toy Havanese. I was told he's about 10 years old, he has no teeth so I've been giving him liverwurst as part of his daily meal and canned food. He weighed 2 lbs when I first got him inn December, now he's up to 5.2 lbs (still thin but getting better!) About 2 months ago he began itching, I took him to the groomers and although he looked beautiful, he practically itched himself into oblivion. I put him into an Aveeno oatmeal bath and gently scrubbed off all the scabs, no blood and he seems much better. Can you please recommend a good canned food for him? Also (I'm going out to get some of the items you mentioned tomorrow), is there a special non allergic shampoo that can be used? I'm really concerned. I also have another rescue, no teeth as well, maltipoo, he was with a friend of mine but when I got him back he seems to have the cough you talk about. How can you distinguish between kennel cough and a heart murmur?
Luv this vet!👍🙌 Thank u so much Doc, you've just saved me a whole lot of 🤑 today's vets are RIDICULOUSLY expensive. Sending u love and abundant blessings🙏 All the way from South Africa.🤗🇿🇦

Thank you so much! I wish I had known this as I have tried everything on my two corgis without very much success, but you’ve given me some new options.
What a beautiful, happy and clearly loved and cherished dog, she made me laugh so much when she was trying to eat that coconut oil, then you apply it and she instantly starts to lick it, gotta love labs xx
My Curly Girl, when she was with us, was so allergic with certain foods. Grains but the big one was chicken. When we kept the grains and chicken (which was hard because everything seems to have chicken in it one way or the other) away from her diet she never licked or itched. When we first got her she had patches that she had licked all the hair off. It took us about 6 months to figure out what her issues were but once we figured them out she was good. Sadly we lost her in Feb.from Kidney Disease.
So sorry you lost your baby. I hope you don't mind. But my little mini pin beagle mix...itches in her sleep so bad. All treat long. You'd think she's trying to kick start a Harley. Lol. She real goes to town on it. So my question is this. What did you feed your dog? I've had her on grain free Halo, Blue Buffalo.. and her hair falls out. Gets bad dandruff and itches worse. So I give her Hills Science Diet , Sensitive stomach and skin. She eats it no problem. Her hair doesn't fall out. But in the middle of the night. That back leg will go to town. Lol
@@jillpeacock4540 Hi Jill, sadly figuring out what a dog is allergic to can be a long process of elimination unless you can pay to have them tested. Look at your Science Diet to see if there is chicken in it, that MAY be the rest of the problem or it could be the time of year and certain grasses or pollen's. Is there a certain spot or body area that he itches more than the others. Our current dog gets a shot certain times of the year when the itching gets out of control. The shot seems to quiet the need for him to itch.
@@juliecohick thanks for your help. Did you make your own dog food before? Cause I was thinking, I wonder what you feed her. Sorry, if I'm depressing you. Pets are like kids. In my case. Good grief, I would've had twenty. Good thing I didn't have that many kids. Lol
@@jillpeacock4540 Jill, We fed Curly a brand called Anamet that was suggested to us by a Livestock supply owner. He was very familiar with our problem with Curly and he suggested we start with the one that had a certain amount of chicken, then if we saw that the itching was not gone, we were to go to the next one and so on til her itching stopped. The chicken that is in Anamet is processed a different way so that it can be digested without causing an allergic reaction. If you have a Livestock Supply store in your area they may be familiar with it, if not I have found it on-line in other stores in our locale.

Can my dog use these oils if she has had an attack of pancreatitis?
Beautiful Dog!!!!!
If you microwave your coconut oil for less than a minute it liquifies and remains that way for quite a long time.
My dog gets a tsp in his food and I take 2 tbsp every day.
Thanks for the tip!
His bottle says safflower oil... He kept saying sunflower...
@@nikimckellip227safflower ?
Which is best? How do u make it?
I believe that coconut oil would work as well or better than sunflower or safflower oil.
Great video as always. Pippy is so adorable.
She sure is. Thanks!
Thanks Dr. Jones, luckily there's available virgin coconut oil here. My dad made the oil for family use. After watching your videos I will apply to my fur babies itchy parts of her body
Cool! Cabbage has been used medicinally for centuries, or maybe longer!!! Yum, our dogs love it!
Oh wow rape seed oil huh
I never receive a confirmation request from you. Tried several times over last few months. Love your awesome help with our rescue babies.
your suggestions have been immensely helpful..THANK YOU for sharing. I am a senior on a very limited budget and cannot afford to to take my dog to a vet for the ailments you have shown . Not only have you helped give care to my little dog, but to my budget- THANK YOU

You have unrealistic expectations if you think you will see a quick improvement wait
@@linzieloo1 FYI I can already see an improvement...
Thanks Tonya

This is wonderful for dog's skin. I used to use it everyday on my 3. Had to stop because they were turning each other into lollipops. They would sneak behind my back and lick it off of each other. Now instead of rubbing it all over them, because coconut oil is an excellent flea repellent too. This is mainly why I used it back then. Now I just use it in small amounts. Neem powder is great too for doggie icky skin. Fleas, ticks and mosquitoes hate the smell of it too. As do dogs too. But it works nice on their skin and keeps those pesky blood suckers away.
"turning each other into lollipops" made me chuckle. I can totally see that. Thanks for sharing, Gina.
Where to buy Neem powder?
Gina L.F. LoL 😝 for turning each others into lollipops!
😂🤣😂
@@marysunshine4730 Neem oil. Should be anywhere that sells essential oils. It's a top shelf remedy for parasites.

Note - for videos that movie a bit slow you can change the speed in setting. This video got to the point when I sped it up 2x.
Thanks for confirming the coconut oil remedy. I’m going to try that for my dog tonight. I have eczema in my ears and have been using coconut oil in my ears a few times a week so thought it might also be good for him 🙂

Thank you for sharing. Do you have a recipe/remedy for fleas for dogs?
That’s two remedies I’ve seen that could help me, itchy skin and the dreaded cherry eye.. you are amazing and thank you from the bottom of my heart 😊
@DavidGreg-wg3od Thank you for your kinds words. But I can’t take this conversation any further.👍
Thank you for great advice. I have one of my dogs that is always itchy, itchy. I will give these a try on her and I really think it will help her.
Hi Lindy, I started using the coconut oil recipe 2 days ago on my very ichy little dog and I can already see the difference. PS: He licked some of it off and doesn't want to get up so fast. lol Helping him sleep instead of chewing on himself during nite 😴
@@willajohnson8577 is he sleepy because you used the cbd oil remedy with it? I'm not sure cbd oil is sold here where I live.
So much better many tks to doc.❤🐩🐩🐩🐩
Thank you for not sending us to some video....YOUR THE BEST ...THANKS FOR THE INFO❤
What a great dog! He's precious!
I have a Pomeranian and chui mixed he has long white fur. He is 11 years old. All of a sudden he has been getting real dry patches than a price of his hair comes out and has not grown back
Thank you so much for these videos. I’m so glad I just found your channel! You’re fabulous. I own a grooming salon and I get so many ideas from you. All three items you showcase in this video are part of my dogs. Homemade Diet and I started cooking for her because she was itching all the time and she no longer itches or has tears stains, and, I really wasn’t sure what I was doing other than getting her off of commercial foods that did it. After watching many of your videos, I now think that it’s a combination of all of the things I’m doing.❤❤❤

You're welcome, Maria.
I love watching your videos! The dogs love the remedies. :)
Luv this vet!👍🙌
Thank u so much Doc, you've just saved me a whole lot of 🤑 today's vets are RIDICULOUSLY expensive. Sending u love and abundant blessings🙏 All the way from South Africa.🤗🇿🇦
Thank you for the love! Glad I could help. 🇿🇦
A Little bacon grease in thir food helps too!
Make sure that it's VERY little as you don't want to trigger Pancreatitis... I made that mistake when I first started.
I will try it my baby girl always chewing itching vet says it is nothing. All for no reason. I spend so much on all kinds of stuff So I am give your advice a try thank you. And keep you posted on my plucked chicken looking dog.

What a beautiful, happy and clearly loved and cherished dog, she made me laugh so much when she was trying to eat that coconut oil, then you apply it and she instantly starts to lick it, gotta love labs xx
She is absolutely amazing.
Pippi is soooooo funny! I think you have to feed your assistant more before videotaping!!! 😂 I love that dog & Tula too! Soooo fun are they!!! Thanks!
So sorry for your loss Julie. I had to put my 8yr old pitt down a couple months ago, she had so many issues :(
So sorry you lost your baby.
Thank you so much for your advice on dog itching! Appreciated.
