Varys getting the hell up outta there as he hears the bells tolling to signify they've found the body of the Hand tells you all you need to know about how important this death is. Even Varys decides his skin isn't worth the shark pond of King's Landing anymore. Make no mistake this is probably the single most important death based on the political repercussions it has for Westeros. Like Ned and Robb's death hit me a lot harder on a character level but this one is the most consequential.

Tywin. The most powerful Lannister. Who thought about nothing except his legacy, his reputation and that of his family, is now forever immortalized as "That guy who was killed on the shitter by his dwarf son".

What an episode! Most people's favorite or second favorite GoT finale. The season starts with Tywin melting Ned's sword, at the peak of his power. Renly killed, Stannis defeated, Robb Stark murdered, Greyjoys almost forced out of the North...it felt like House Lannister was finally the unchallenged master of the Seven Kingdoms. The season ends with Tywin's downfall, not at the hand of any enemy, but brought down by his own hubris, murdered by his own son. In the show during the last moments of his life Tywin finally has to come to terms with his lineage. For someone who valued family legacy more than the actual family, that had to be a devastating blow knowing his grandsons were not legitimate heirs to the throne. His victory is built on quicksand. This episode is fittingly titled "The Children" for the Children of the Forest, but it's also about Cersei, Jaime and Tyrion each in their own ways rebelling against the Lannister patriarch, with the last one ending up being fatal. A season ago Tyrion said "Seven Kingdoms united in fear of Tywin Lannister". Tywin held together a country in civil war with sheer force of personality. Now that glue is gone. Now that "gaping pit" has opened up. Now the vultures will be circling. It's time for the crows to feast.

I always wish they had kept in Jaimes confession about Tysha as he frees Tyrion. Jaime tells him that Tysha wasn’t a prostitute like Tywin had told Tyrion and that she truly did love Tyrion and Tywin tore them apart because she was lowborn. This is what Tyrions motivation is in the book to kill Tywin

I wish they kept that in too, the courtroom scene was all the proof I needed that Peter Dinklage could bring us the really dark Tyrion that we're getting in the books after this point. It's a real shame the show whitewashed his character arc after this.

My theory about Arya: she took the Hound off the list a few episodes ago. But that may only have caused her to hate him even more, as she felt guilty for not avenging Mycah the butcher's boy. This caused her to leave him for dead.
As for Shae, I do not think she was with Tywin from the beginning. Only after Tyrion "dumped" her.

I look at the Tyrion escape as that tiny silver lining inside a nightmare world of pitch black darkness. It's so tiny, but so bright! The rare upbeat Stark music at the end always gets me. You know this is peak GoT when you have that extended shot of Tyrion and Shae lying in bed, in that "head to head" position from every Y/A movie poster ever. Think Fault In Our Stars...except one has just choked out the other. You can't make this shit up 😂

Thanks Sofie, for agreeing that this episode is the best season ender so far. It is my favourite season finale of the whole show even though others may disagree, with good reason tbf. This is the end of the War of the Five Kings, and all our main characters who remain standing are moving on to the next stage in their lives. George R.R. Martin left the show after this season, and we learned later than this was due to 'creative differences'. As for Arya's treatment of The Hound at the end, it was GRRM's reminder to us to be careful what we wish for. Revenge can be a double-edged sword and it may end up changing the protagonist as well. And the music in this episode is so good. Ramin Djawadi really blessed us here. Definitely in my top 5 GOT episodes of all time.

One thing to keep in mind about Shae is that she's 18 in the books. I think this helps to explain her more rash and immature behavior in the show, which I struggle sometimes to make sense of otherwise. I think she really did love Tyrion, but she was a woman scorned. Brienne had the best armor you could buy, had no injury, was in perfect health, and had a Valyrian steel sword. Much stronger, sharper, and lighter. Still you have to acknowledge the absolute commitment that Brienne had. And Arya leaving the hound there was unexpected, I thought she would have killed him. The lack of communication is a great detail for the realism of the setting. You have this brutal and harsh world, with judgmental bitter people who've had to be because that's the nightmare they live in. In that, inject a noble warrior just trying to do what's right, and a man who's been the professional killer of a King for years. No de-escalation training, no diplomacy, no communication. Trained to settle disputes at the end of the sword.
It's a wonderful commentary, to be honest.

some facts about the fight between the hound and brienne. The hound was weakend from an infection he got when the one guy bit of this ear some episodes ago. Arya mentioned on the way to the bloody gate " u are a lot slower than usuall". In the books he dies because of this infection. The fight did not happend there.

Oh SoFie, I loved your uninhibited reactions to this episode! I enjoyed it because it involved my three favorite characters in the show and the totally unexpected curve balls that happened to them that promise to make their futures very interesting next season.
I believe that Arya sat there by the Hound as he suffered and talked and she had an existential crisis. She could try to help the Hound because he took care of her, but he was on her list because he killed her friend - so leaving him to fate was a fair balance. She could find Brianne and go with her and maybe learn more about fighting from her - but it wasn't worth the possibility that Brianne really was working for the Lannisters. So she settled on Jon not only because he was her brother and she loved him, but also because she knew Jon would teach her how to fight better so she could go after the people on her list. When the man on the ship nixed getting to Jon, Arya remembered the coin and the fact that the best killer she had ever met was in Braavos, and if he might teach her how to fight like he did, she would have the absolute best chance of getting her revenge. I mourn the fact that cruel reality killed the playful side of Arya's personality, but it certainly strengthened the pragmatic fighter within her and gave her a better chance of surviving on her own terms and not as a pawn like Sansa.
Tyrion being rescued by Jamie was great and showed how much Jamie has grown as a character, and I like that Varis was involved because he knew how much everyone owed Tyrion for saving King's Landing. Tyrion taking a detour and killing his father came completely out of left field, but if anyone deserved revenge it was him. Tywin made Tyrion's whole life a hellish dance of trying to win at least some sign of approval from his father and getting disdain and veiled hatred in return, so Tywin deserved to die in the place where all pieces of shit belong. The most ironic twist of their relationship is that Tyrion was the heir Tywin wanted Jamie to be, and he never knew it because all he saw was a deformed monster that killed his beloved wife. Here's to Tyrion finding a place where his abilities are appreciated!
There are only two good things about Stannis - the fact that he came north and saved the men of the Watch, and the love he has for his daughter no matter how she looks. And that absolutely does not make up for the mountain of bad things he's done, and it never will.
Lastly, Bran made it to the three-eyed raven at the cost of his friend's life. I don't think it was worth it, and I believe that Bran warging Hodor is an abuse of his abilities and just plain wrong. His father would have been ashamed of him. I understand that learning from the three-eyed raven is Bran's destiny and yada yada, but if he would have gone to Jon I'm sure Jon would have taken him there without the need for the death and abuse - not to mention that Jon would have found out that Rickon was alive and maybe he could have found him and kept him safe. Yes, I know my opinions are skewed because I don't like Bran, but that doesn't change anything.

      @balazsillyes7639 Рік тому

"Bran warging Hodor is an abuse of his abilities " If he wouldn't have done it. they would have been killed. Hodor unfortunately couldn't fight by himself. I don't se how it was an abuse thing.

@@balazsillyes7639 It's kind of on the border, coz it is an invasion of someone's mind, but life trumps first. More importantly, the whole abuse thing is more about the future arc of Bran. He just wasn't done justice by the show.

Tywin, son of Tytos, of House Lannister. Lord of Casterly Rock, Warden of the West, Shield of Lannisport, and Hand of the King. A terrible human being, but incredibly accomplished throughout his life. As a teenager he crushed two rebellious houses and restored his own to its former glory, served as Hand for 20 years under Aerys Targaryen and was considered the real ruler of the Seven Kingdoms during that time of peace. He crushed his enemies by any means necessary and without pity. His only blind spots were Jamie and Cersei’s relationship, and Tyrion’s worth, which led to an undignified end.

One thing that happened in the books here and was missing from the series. When Jaime was rescuing Tyrion he revealed that Tywin told him to tell Tyrion that Jaime staged the situation leading to Tyrion's first marriage. Tyrion's first marriage was actually legit, Tywin just didn't want him marrying a commoner.

*"For once, his father did what Tyrion asked him. The proof was the sudden stench, as his bowels loosened in the moment of death. Well, he was in the right place for it, Tyrion thought. But the stink that filled the privy gave ample evidence that the oft-repeated jape about his father was just another lie. Lord Tywin Lannister did not, in the end, shit gold."*
That running gag from S1 when everyone from Robb to Tyrion said Tywin was so rich that he even shat gold. I mean how else would the almighty Tywin die, but in the most undignified manner? Went out on the shitter like Elvis, Happy Father's Day! Yep the irony of this airing on Father's Day, just brilliant lol. Insert the Tyrion "perfect father's day gift doesn't exist" gif.

Not talking about favorite characters cause there's other GoT characters you like more, but acting wise my GoT top three is Alfie Allen (Theon), Liam Cunningham (Davos) and Charles Dance. Shae grabbing the knife when she sees Tyrion is an addition of the TV series. It does seem less like murder that way, though not in Tyrion's eyes. Either way, Shae's motives are left ambiguous, as the only person who might have known is Tywin, killed only moments later. And I think we never get Shae's or Tywin's POV in the books, so we never really have insight into their thought processes.
I think the "woman scorned" is probably the best explanation for why she betrayed Tyrion. As for Tywin's having her in his bed (otherwise thoroughly out of character), it may be that Tywin wanted to understand his son better after seeing how he acted during the trial, and getting to know Shae was the only way he knew how.

I do t think Shea was given a choice. Once she was pointed out just before Joffrey’s wedding, she was marked. After Joffrey died, no doubt she was given a choice….testify against Tyrion, a due a painful death. Tywin had no good motivation for sleeping w/Shae. He never wanted to see Tyrion’s point of view. I’m not sure he cared so much that Tyrion slept with a whore, so much as he fell in love with one (or another one)…and really, that wasn’t a good look for his family. Using other people is fine…elevating them above their status, and thereby downgrading the family’s, was his bigger beef. He slept with Shae because he felt like it.

Awesome reaction. You go so far in your analysis, you are so sensitive and perceptive. Everything you said about the Hound, OMG, so true ! That fight between him and Brienne gets so nasty, I have tears everytime. And it's just like you said, it took a twist for the worst after she called him Ser. Perhaps they are both resentful of not being knights, and perhaps it added an extra layer of rage in the fight, on both sides. Biting his ear off? lol. A bear fighting a bear, lol. And you're right, also, at this point, the Hound is really looking after Arya, so proud of protecting her, of even serving her like a guard, like she's the friendly sibling he never had, or likeminded daughter he'll never have. She's alone in the world, just like him. Both scarred by events happening with their family, like two orphans out there surviving, learning from each other. But it's like you said, he was on her list, he killed her friend, for Joffrey. One life for one life, I suppose.
As for Tywin, the whole situation with Shae was cruel and unnecessary. Not sure why he did that to his son. If he wanted to make a moral point about whores, he didn't have to get involved himself. Tywin stayed alone after the death of his wife. He never remarried, and we've rarely seen him with women. He stayed alone and bitter. Did he take Shae to make Tyrion pay for that? Sad old man. What a stinky death indeed.

It's a brutal world and all sides commit their share of atrocities, but there's something to be said about how callously dismissive Tywin, one of the most "civilized" men in the Seven Kingdoms, was when he heard of Shae's death. Almost like she wasn't worthy of being dignified as a human being. Contrast that with the compassion with which Mance the "savage" reacted to his enemy Pyp and Grenn's death.

The poor innocent dragons being chained and locked up killed me and made me ball. I honestly disagreed with this especially since these two did nothing. The dragons cook their food recklessly I've noticed, Drogon in particular and i know Drogon wouldn't of intentionally killed a innocent child. They're intelligent creatures and have never harmed any of Danys people without being told too.
Also i don't know if Brienne is better, since the Hound had slowed down and weakened after that neck bite.
Arya is a badass and has grown cold but as long as shes not harming innocent people and has needle, she still remains a Stark at her core, always. She's had many badass killer mentors and lost so much. Arya was torn about the Hound i think, wanting and not wanting the Hound to die.
