RIP Tywin, played the game better than anyone but his burning hatred for his son was his demise, great character

To be fair, all he did was worry about his legacy and that of his house. He didn't really play the game to take control himself; we was too old for that. He did want his house to remain the strongest.

Actually Tywin did not succeed, his family name is turnished forever because he did not care about his children and only pushed them to do what he wanted and they turned to each other, and the only child gifted in politics he ignored, and he died penniless on a shithole...

Arya, Sansa and Bran are all now independently on their own adventures far from home - the Stark children (except for Rickon, who already left with Osha on his own independent adventure).
Hey, at least Tyrion's murder of Tywin could bring him some relief after that comment by Cersei. Patricide beats incest, especially when it's personal, so by killing him, Tywin could die with the knowledge that Tyrion (having now "killed both of his parents") recemented his place as "worst" of all Tywin's kids.

If you think about it Tyrion paid his debt to Oberyn by killing his father. Oberyn fought for Tyrion because he wanted to get the people responsible for his sisters and her children's death. Tywin gave the order to kill them. So intentionally or unintentionally, A Lannister Always Pays His Debts.

@Age of The Witch. I just heard them making an analogy in one of their GoT reaction videos about entertainment "wrestling". I have no idea why 2 adults would know that much about entertainment "wrestling", and it would be a go-to reference in understanding the relationship between characters in GoT. I enjoy watching random people grow to love a great story and relate it to their lives and perspective. Politics, religion, sexual orientation... entertainment wrestling.... all these things we struggle to discuss as a society, especially, with those we would otherwise never speak to because of disagreement, are made easier if talked about through the lens of GoT. And... I was busting their proverbial balls. lol

It’s also karma for the red wedding. The people who orchestrated it such as Tywin, Frey and Roose died in similar fashion to Grey wind, Robb and Catelyn. Grey wind shot full of arrows=Tywin shot full of arrows, Robb stabbed in heart= Roose stabbed in heart, Catelyn throat cut= Frey throat cut.

Season 4 is clearly the centerpiece of the series. It shows what separates the opposing sides underneath Baelish's ladder of chaos: the Starks are stronger as a pack, but when the Lannisters are together they weaken each other. It's even bookended that way. Tywin (in his sword-melting opening scene) believes that he's finally secured the Lannister name as forever feared. By the end of his life he's witnessed this lie of a legacy crumble to dust due (ironically) to the way he's treated his own family. Nothing about that is strong; in fact the bitter soul inside Tywin is pitiful.
You can tell how much fun the writing staff had with this season. Usually it's head writer Benioff & Weiss that get all the fun, but Bryan Cogman got to shine penning Tyrion's trial and the roller-coaster dialogue of the varying testimonies. George R.R. Martin (in what's probably his last turn adapting his own books) picked the best moments for the Purple Wedding and planted clues for seasons 5 to 7 that I dare not spoil.
The directors are also to be commended. Alex Graves landed the three meatiest episodes ("The Lion and the Rose", "The Mountain and the Viper", "The Children") with tonal perfection and they could stand on their own as a trilogy of political drama. Neil Marshall (whose horror film "The Descent" I highly recommend) helmed an episode-long battle that's almost as great as his work on "Blackwater".
And the performances! Confidence kicking in all around from those whose characters have survived this far. Sophie Turner (Sansa) shows the most growth and pulls off a true surprise. Lena Headey (Cersei) has set herself up to become chief antagonist, reinforcing what should've been obvious. Peter Dinklage (Tyrion) proves once and for all why he deserves his shitload of Emmy nominations. My one qualm is that Maisie Williams (Arya, my favorite character) didn't get as much screen time.

Fun fact: the finale aired on Father’s Day in 2014.
Another Emmy Award worthy performance for Peter Dinklage! The reason he didn’t leave immediately was Tyrion wanted to confront Tywin on why he sentenced him to die knowing he was innocent. Tyrion was willing to risk his chance of escape to gain closure on the issue.
Some months later after Father’s Day, they showed the last two episodes of Season 4 in select IMAX theaters! The surround sound system was incredible! Because of that and even though I already seen it, the sound of that crossbow going off startled me! Jumped out of my seat a little.

In the book he had a further reason, when he was younger he'd run away and married a commoner named Tysha. Later, Jaime said she was just a prostitute that he paid, and Tyrion believed that no one could ever truly love him. Later when Jaime frees Tyrion, he reveals that the girl was what she seemed to be, not a whore, and Tywin had commanded him to lie about it. In spite, Tyrion lies to Jaime, claiming he poisoned Joffrey. Then when Tyrion confronts Tywin, he asks what happened to Tysha, where she went. "Wherever whores go" *thunk* Tyrion spends the next book wondering if every place he visits in Essos might be the place where whores go.

Just in case there are people who miss subtle but amazing details in this show... Around 2:27, where the CotF throws the fireball at Jojen's body, they take the time to have the reflection in his eye, of the fire coming through the sky. Might be such a small detail but I've always found that to be beautiful and amazing.

Arya is going to the free city of Braavos (the captain of the ship is from Braavos as well as the rest of the crew) Braavos is the city with the Titan at his bay entrance, it is also the seat of the Iron Bank. Syrio who was Arya's master sword was from Braavos too (remember? The first sword of Braavos)
Jaqen said to her to give the coin to any Braavosi and said Valar Morghulis. And that's what she did.
Note: when someone says Valar Morghulis, the proper answer is Valar Dohaeris (which means All men must serve). The captain is a braavosi so he knew that to say and what the coin meant. I guess now you can figure out how important are the faceless man in Braavos city.

Just a couple things you guys missed:
The undead that comes out of the snow are decayed wights.
Stannis got that large army with the money from the Iron Bank, he didn't have that many soldiers laying around beforehand.
Brann's ability to warg into animals/humans is different from his ability to "see" events.

    • @ellea3344
      @ellea3344 5 років тому +3

Warging is a specific kind of skinchanging - skinchanging into a dog or wolf. Skinchanging is much like a gene - of being blonde, or male pattern baldness. The Children of the Forest, and decedents for the 1st men, Crannogmen (Jogen/Mira and the swamp people from The Neck) and Starks, are more likely to be born with this trait. In general, 1 in 1000 people are born skinchangers. All the Stark children are skinchangers to varying degrees, whether they are aware of it or not. Bran and Jogen are not only skinchangers, but greenseers. 1 in 1000 skinchangers are greenseers, having the ability to skinchange into many types of animals, to warg, have visions, and perhaps other things. This is explained in the lore released before the show, and is helpful to improve one's viewing experience and understanding prior to watching the show. It's a similar but different to the relation of "magic" between White Walkers and Wights. Although not really referred to as such, the White Walkers are necromancers, animating the dead in the their current state of decomposition, freshly killed, decaying, or skeleton.

S4E10 Arya is the best Arya of the first 4 series imo. Right from when we first see her practising her water dancing in the mountains of the Vale, there's the sense of a new found purpose and confidence about her. It's as if, after hearing of the death of her aunt at the Bloody Gate, she decides to take control of her own life. She decides that the whole damsel in distress act which she's had going from the end of S1 has run its course. The way she sizes up Brienne when they meet, the way she shouts at The Hound when she wants him to come and meet Brienne, is in the manner of someone who has decided to take charge. We see Arya in this episode make the change from a girl into a young woman. I had a picture of Arya in the mountains as my screensaver for well over a year because I thought Maisie Williams captured Arya's transformation spectacularly well. Arya taking the bag of money from The Hound was just a replay of when The Hound himself took the money from the farmer (and his daughter) who took them in when they were starving. When she squats next to The Hound as he pleads for her to take his life, she's acknowledging the crucial role he's played in the latest chapter of her life while also coming to terms with the fact that she's now leaving that chapter and The Hound behind so she can move on to the next stage of her life. Then she takes the bag of money and walks away without a single glance at what she's left behind.

The pink dress that Shae wears during the trial is the same dress Sansa wore when she was a prisoner having to lie and do whatever she was asked to to survive. I think the costuming for that scene is a big clue as to what Shae’s situation is, and in general the costumes on this show are incredibly important.

And so ends the song of Tywin Lannister, The Great Lion of the Rock, The Shield of Lannisport, The Savior of the City. As much of a horrible HORRIBLE father he wast, I honestly thought Tywin was going to make it to the end of The Game.
You got a chance to see how clear and focused Ayra is on avenging her family. As a reminded, she has no idea about the current state of Jon, Sansa, Bran or Rickon. ( she still thinks the latter two are dead).
    .Valar Morghulis
What I loved about the end of season 4 , it left Team Stark rooting for the children of Eddard and Catelyn preparing for battle; Jon successfully defending the wall, Sansa electing to play the Game, Bran reaching the 3eyed Raven and Ayra on her way to Bravos.

I don't find it too hard not to empathize, since what she feels isn't really love. Okay, perhaps with Joffrey it was, but Myrcella and Tommen is all about ownership. She thinks she owns those kids. It doesn't matter what they want, it's all about how much she wants total and absolute control over them and will do anything to stop anyone else from being in their lives. That's not love.

"I don't find it too hard not to empathize, since what she feels isn't really love"
I also feel that way, besides you can say it´s just a twisted way of Cersei loving only herself. Those are the kids she had with her twin brother, the closest person to herself she can get and the kids themselves can also be seen as extensions of herself. As soon as Jaime was broken and not "perfect" anymore, she didn´t want him any longer.

You guys are a treat to watch! I love how you give this show the attention it deserves, you're in it now!
I think my top 3 favorite moments of this particular season were: Tyrion's speech in the trial, everything Oberyn, the brawl between two knights: Brienne and the Hound.

I spent the entire Brienne/Hound fight freaking out not wanting either one of them to die too.

18:27 There was so much speculation after this moment about what it meant. Did it mean he was no longer on her list and she didn't want to kill him and rather left it up to fate? Does she hate him so much she wants to him to suffer as much as possible? What does it all mean?

Steve really felt it when Jamie and Tyrion hugged. No emotion showed but you could see it. Brotherly love right there, man.

Honestly, I completely forgot how intense this episode was. I remembered the Tywin/Tyrion stuff and I remembered the Brienne/Hound battle, but as powerful as those 2 things were, there was so much other stuff in this episode. I remember all the other events too, but I did NOT remember that they all happened in this one episode.
I managed to not cry up to when the Hound said, "Are you going to make me beg?" and then the damn broke from the cumulative effect of all the other stuff. And I always find it really moving when Jaime kisses Tyrion. And then started crying again when Tyrion said sorry to Shae.
This episode had extremely intense and emotional turns in several subplots.

Thank you so much for the two-part upload! I kept thinking that today was Friday, which would mean no video, but then I was very happily surprised to see not one, but two videos!
There are too many wonderful things about this episode to even begin. Too many emotions, but go be free, Arya and Tyrion! Thanks for the great reaction! :'D

Brace yourselves, more tears to come 😭😂 xx

Shae loved Tyrion from the very beginning and was loyal to him at the expense of herself. Her love for him was genuine and had nothing to do with Tywin. She was willing to risk everything to be with him. Let’s not forget that Shae also asked multiple for her and Tyrion to just leave together and have a life for themselves. He rejected that because he wanted to stay to play the game. He chose what he was good at over his love for her. So I find it very unfair to blame Shae because she supposedly didn’t understand he was sending her away to keep her safe. No, she understood why he did it. But she didn’t want his protection, she was more than happy to stay and die for that love as long as they were together. What she learned from Tyrion sending her away was that he didn’t love her more than he loved the game. He wasn’t willing to give up this power trip for her. That’s what she learned and why she struck back. He chose the game over her so she was going to destroy the game for him. After the trial, she simply did what was practical for her, to keep herself alive. Tyrion betrayed Shae first.

Remember Jaqen told Arya that if she ever wanted to find him again she should give that coin to any man from bravos and say the words “valar morghulis”. So she is sailing to Bravos to see Jaqen.

It's actually ridiculous. Sander is suppose to be a top three swordsman in westeros. It was pure fan service. Although not as ridiculous as the fan service we see in later seasons. When they stray from the books this garbage tends to come out because they aren't as good fantasy writers as GRRM. It does kind of imply the gravedigger in the book is actually the hound though so thats fun.

Colin Faust You're suggesting Brienne isn't top 3. She beat Sir Lawrence Tyrell. What makes you think she couldn't go toe-to-toe with the Hound? This is a bit of "fan service" isn't out of the range of probability, just a different path from the books to speed things up with the characters they already hired for the show.
