One thing I will always respect about these guys: shortly after MCA passed, these two said they would never perform as the Beastie Boys again. They would not replace him to continue making music and touring the way so many other groups have done.

So refreshing. Some people can be replaced in bands. But you can’t replace Layne Staley or DD Darrell or Eddie Van Halen. I get wanting to make more music but so it as another project you know. Certain groups have a chemistry that can’t be replicated.

As a kid listening to rap music, Beastie Boys influenced me in so many ways from a creative and visual standpoint. I remember watching Showtime at the Apollo and back then if you were white, you were getting baked on the show. But when I seen these three guys from NYC coming down the aisle screaming "No Sleep Till Brooklyn", I was hooked!

I was lucky enough to meet MCA backstage in Mesa, Arizona in 1992. After an awesome show in the blistering August heat, he was kind enough to come over and chat with a few of us and sign things. To say I was obsessed with the Beastie Boys in 1992 would be an understatement. These guys were my soundtrack for decades. It's good to see Adam and Mike making the podcast rounds.

I met Adam Y VERY briefly in the Union Square dorms at Parsons in 1988.
He was dating one of my friends who lived down the hall. She is still one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met.
By that point, they’d been dating for a few years.
I walked into my friend’s suite, she introduced me to Adam, I nonchalantly nodded and said ‘Hey.’ And he did the same and we all talked for about fifteen to twenty minutes and I went back to my place.
Ironically, I missed seeing the Beastie Boys perform the last night of Madonna’s Virgin Tour 3 years earlier because my Aunt’s friend Maripol got my friends and I third row tickets on a school night.
While the Beastie Boys were performing we were running to my Aunt’s apartment to pick up the tickets.
We were hoping to meet the Beastie Boys at the after-party, but we DID see Andy Warhol and Keith Haring in person!

I was in a band back in the 90's that did okay-ish locally. We were driving to a show and one our songs came on the college radio station we were listening to, and I can confirm what Ad-Rock says, it's super weird and was like an out of body, dream sequence. I would have assumed guys who got to those heights would have gotten used to it, but that's fun to hear that experience is somewhat universal and sticks around.

ahhhhh - Mike's comments about the "inside jokes" in their lyrics....maybe it's an age/pop culture thing, but that was a HUGE part of their appeal - like the cherry on top. And what's more, it aged over time and kept capturing what was going on, at least with me and my friends. Low rider bicycles, EF Hutton, Bodhisattva/Buddhist stuff, pretty much everything on to the 5 boroughs, a lot of retro references that took me back...even busting out about a bottle of Chateauneuf-du-Pape SLAYED me - that was me, too!
There will never be a group who I feel really captures my experiences of life like they have. From the very beginning with cookie puss and their punk stuff, to how bratty and objectively unpleasant they were in the License to Ill days, turning that around over time and becoming really stand-up men, all the way through to "the end" - it's like we grew up together and they put all of the quirky details of that journey on blast. I don't think I can properly express what that means to me. And here they are, these totally down to earth guys who still seem a bit oblivious about how relatable they and their lyrics are. Absolute gems of human beings. RIP Yauch and endless thanks to all three of you.

I saw them in concert at the San Jose State event center in 1992, with House of Pain. It was such a vibe and so much fun. I’ll never forget.

I’ll admit I didn’t really appreciate them in their time since I was on an entirely different musical journey but I eventually ‘discovered’ them and must say they’re a hell of a lot of fun.

Beastie Boys were my jam back in the late 80’s through the 90’s. I won License To Ill in a bet with a friend in high school. That was the start. Never got to see them live. Bunch of talented comedy gangsters 🤣. RIP MCA!

In the 80's the music of the Beastie Boys helped shape the B-Boy I became, at one with their music, practicing and battling other crews. There were and still are a massive part of my life, legends to me! RIP MCA. Oh and Mix Master Mic is my favourite scratch DJ, he set the decks on fire!

I still listen to the Beastie Boys every day. I have all their albums on vinyl and play them more than any other vinyl in my collection. I’m sad we won’t be getting any new music from them. 😔

For the record, Conan has a presence in the 30 minute _Fight For Your Right (Revisited)_ video. Around the 19 minute mark when the old and new incarnations are claiming to be the real Beastie Boys, the orange Conan blimp that TBS was flying around LA to promote the show can be seen overheard. I'm pretty sure this comment is going to be lost in the pile tho.
