10 years this May without Yauch. Hard to believe.
I hear ya
Miss him dearly
It sucks so bad. I always thought he seemed like the wild card of the bunch lol.
He left so much great music but also an unfillable hole.
No really? 😱
This was like seeing my best friends get interviewed by my grandpa.
Lol! So true!
😂 facts.
LMAO. This is the most accurate comment ever.
I've been into bikini kill since I was a kid and had no clue they were together! Also i wrote Kathleen a letter when I was like 14 and she actually wrote back, twice!! She has no idea what it meant, the second letter was just ,"good luck starting your band", scribbled in a piece of pink tissue paper with a le tigre flyer, which was new to me at the time .. the first letter she hand typed and signed, was very personal, because I had originally wrote to her pouring my teenage heart our to her .. I wrote to many bands as a kid and shes the only one who actually wrote back ! I did end up starting a girl hardcore punk band with a friend we called pantychrist, out of hamilton Ontario canada, we did pretty good until my singer went to prison
Cool❤
I cannot describe how much I loved this conversation, so I'll simply say I LOVED THIS CONVERSATION.
the bold is really heavy brah
Having grown up on Adam's music, and as a longtime sufferer of Lyme disease, who's looked to Kathleen for inspiration, I gotta say thanks for posting.
She's right: Lyme disease is _"like being in the pit of hell"._ As a creative person, having your productivity taken from you is the worst thing in the world, along with the physical/mental/emotional grind of the illness. Sick men feel those same feelings of guilt and burden she talks about, and there are a lot of women who'll leave chronically sick men, believe me. It is incredibly hard to see a loved one suffer and many can't cope, or simply say "I didn't sign up for this." It's not for the weak.
I can't believe more people haven"t seen this. Still the coolest couple.
spot on. the coolest couple ever :)
U r right. I just watched it and thought the same. I miss the beastie boys w their new music and would love to see a concert but it wouldn’t be complete without all 3 . I am going to check out Kathleen’s band. They make a beautiful couple.
They’re so genuine. They both seem like such great people, especially to each other.
yeah they're such a good vibe
Agreed.
Watching Kathleen and Adam fangirl over Dan Rather is so freaking precious. I love them. Also seeing such a healthy, happy, compassionate, couple. They are definitely two opposites who compliment each other so well. It’s refreshing to see how they can address difficult, complex issues together.
I’m seeing Bikini Kill this Wednesday. I have been waiting my entire life- 3 more years of COVID cancellations was nothing.
i LOVE this comment!!! and enjoy the BK show!! I'm from Olympia, i'm 40 and have never seen Bikini Kill. I considered myself a Riot Grrrl back in the day so it says a lot for me to be able to see them. I missed the last BK show because it was rescheduled until now. I get to see them in September!
@@CrystalCat24 Have you seen them yet? If so, how was it?
@@topazgemfairy crazy that u ask because I just saw them last week for the first time! It was amazing. It was high energy and freaking fabulous because it was a surprise show near Olympia WA and they were pretty emotional playing here because it's home and they had lots of stories. Also still had a message and we're also empowering and 'political'. 🖤And they are in their 50s and u would never effing know!
@@CrystalCat24They're back together?! I hope I get to see them! Update: Just heard her say to Rather they are.
@@lobotomyscam1051 YESSS! I just saw them play in Tacoma, WA, it was freaking amazing!!!!! Make sure to catch them next time they are in ur area! It's bucket list for sure!! Xox
I never knew about this interview until today. Thank you SO much for posting it. The Beasties have been my favorite rap/hip hop group since 1987 and I've been a Kathleen Hanna fan since the mid 1990s.
Same!
I agree I just NOW 2/28/2024 had just now watched it. I was norn in 1966 so Im a 80's kid and seen the beastie boys on the license to Ill tour and have been a huge fan for a long time great video!
This interview and these two people are so precious! They obviously adore each other, how Kathleen describes her first encounter with Adam is so freaking cute. And when Kathleen looks away when Dan Rather brings up MCA's death, you can tell this was painful for her as well. Beautiful soul mates.
Funny how she married a rich guy.
@@BGNOLA why?
@@BGNOLAIt's not like she married some rando billionaire, she married a fellow artist. I remember reading interviews with her in Punk Planet, etc. and more than once she was asked about the Beastie Boys (because of their "misogyny" in earlier albums) and what she thought of them. She had to start saying "no comment" because they asked her about being a fan a million times.
@@lobotomyscam1051 yeah, like Yoko Ono married a "fellow artist"🙄
Omg I love Kathleen so much, her music really helped me when I was getting out of an abusive relationship and starting my life over as a single mother. I listen to her music everyday and they look so cute together.
💕
I've met both of them, and they are as nice and genuine and cool in everyday life as they are here. Honestly, the sweetest people.

@@isangkayumanggiyour mom is calling you . Time for your medicine.
@@dellila9301 wow imagination lol
Dan at 90 STILL giving us the best of journalism in a time where that actual are almost no longer exists is inspiring. Adam's response at the beginning of the interview says it all. Great interview and story
The guy was always a liar. The entire media is controlled. Let's not forget Obama made propaganda against the American people legal before he left office. Everything you know is a lie.
@@TheKitchenerLeslie If he "lied" he read the lies wrote for him. In news they use a thing called a teleprompter for news casters. The media is a corporation like many others. I'm not here to argue what YOU think is real or not nor your political affiliation. In fact if you are one of those who mistakenly believe either side of the political isle is more "truth" than the other you are just as lost yourself from the "truth". Your perspective sounds a lot like the flat earth theories.
@@AJimiDigginKat That's a strange way to agree with me! He took the checks, right? Hey! Who funds the media these days? The people telling you to get vaxxed.
@@TheKitchenerLeslie So where is the "source" of YOUR "truth"...🤔
@@AJimiDigginKat Everything. You have to learn how to read between the lines and ask, "Who benefits?" Your President is a compromised communist pedophile... but who benefits? Why Ukraine? Oh... perhaps Burisma is the answer? Look into it.
Coolest couple. Finally got my hands on The Beastie Book around Thanksgiving and it was such a gift. Been jamming them a lot since, RIP MCA.
What an amazing interview. Two icons just being honest and vulnerable.
I hope I get to be in my 90's and that when I am I'm as cool and with it as Dan is. He's such an open-minded person and supportive of musicians & people who maybe aren't the mainstream. "Some days I think I know who I am and some days I have no idea." What an honest attitude for a guy who's had such an amazing life. Kathleen and Adam are really humble, too.
Three people that are a gift to us all! I’m grateful that my kids love Bikini Kill, Beastie Boys and Le Tigre. Talk about roll models! Thank you Dan for this and everything else you have done through all of my 53 years!
Amazing to see those two together for such a long time! Much respect for them!
This is so great! Thanks so much for posting this, been waiting for it for a year now. Love, love, love these two, they're so fantastic 🧡🔥
This song is a masterpiece I'm still looking for my head after watching this, I admire the fact that you have great taste in mind blowing music which part of the world are you watching from
I love how humble both of them are and the respect they show for a living legend ! I wish we still had real journalism like this
clear and concisive research with no spin, no hype or bias just the facts and the story presented to you as is!
Most modern interviewers like tucker Carlson or don Lennon already have a narrative laid out and will use the interview to grill the person and push an agenda against them!
Dan at 90 is genuinely interested in who they are and what they have to say!
There are two "celebrity" couples that I admire, and they are Kathleen and Ad-Rock and the rappers Remy Ma and Papoose. They have legitimate appreciation for the whole of each other.
Say what you want about “don lennnon” but he doesn’t sympathize with Insurrectionists, push fake wars in Iraq, or sympathize with commie dictators in Russia like Carlson
@@shawn47240 two of those things you got right but he has been pro-war in the past!
what most people on the left like myself don't like about him is that he is just another neo-lib pro-corporate dnc status-quo puppet!
amongst leftist and pushes a center right narrative!
also the whole point of my original comment was that dan was an objective journalist who put aside bias to get a story right and let the people form thier own opinions
@@shawn47240 yeah Rather only got caught lying on a major story which is why he got booted from major networks...lol
If you don't think Dan Rather pushed or spun fake narratives or propaganda then you are sincerely naive. That stuff has been going on almost since the inception of the nightly news. You ever hear of Operation Mockingbird? Well there ya go and it was happening before it even had a secret cool CIA name. The TV has been by far the biggest weapon and tool used by the government and military and heavily by the deep state to brainwash and indoctrinate the masses. The US is by far the most indoctrinated and brainwashed society in the world and remains that way today. Not that most will admit this thus the success of the brainwashing cuz that was part of it. Getting people to seek out their own truths or answers or narrative was thought to be crazy or lunacy and to say that you thought your government was lying to you and not looking out for your best interest was akin and in many cases still is to blasphemous. It's just harder for them to hide this nowadays because of the internet and massive amounts of available information out there and other technology such as smart phones with their cameras and audio recording capabilities. So Dan Rather answered to those above him and reported on things that weren't on the straight and narrow or were even straight to begin with and knowingly did this. I guarantee he knowingly did it too. But that contract you signed that came with alot of money and a big spotlight and notoriety also came with alot of clauses that weren't very honorable, truthful, respectable, misleading and probably got alot of people killed, hospitalized, jailed or had many other negative effects in other ways because they believed the shit he was spinning. It had positive effects as well but it had negative ones that could have been 100% avoidable if he told the truth that his overlords or contract forbid him to do. He was just another tool in the toolbox or weapon in the arsenal of the evil overlords of this world. Sad but true.
Thanks for this Porkys1982! I appreciate all that you do
seen them makes me desire so much meeting my soulmate i could cry
Keep putting it out into the universe.
Adam is hysterical. Dan goes deep.
That's what she said
been waiting so long for this being online. thanks so much 💓
I really enjoyed this interview! A fascinating looking to two icons that are married to each other. It’s also heartwarming to see their relationship still going strong after 25 years.
Great interview. Thank you so much for sharing parts of your lives. It makes me feel somewhat normal in going through some of the same things in life. Maybe not exactly the same but similar.
Thank you so much for uploading this video!!
I'm glad I stumbled upon this video unexpectedly.
I grew up listening to their music and it was interesting to see them after so many years.
Much respect to this remarkable couple.
Take care.
Thanks Ben for all these great videos
What an honest and beautiful interview. I’m happy they have each other. ❤️
I still can't believe these two are together! What a friggen ADORABLE couple! Two of my musical heros! Can't wait for the Bikini Kill show to get rescheduled in Knoxville, I don't care if i'm the only straight male there, I'm gonna have a blast!!! :)
thanks for the upload. never seen this in full
i've been looking for this forever thank you😭
Love that. Proof that opposites do attract. True example of a great relationship.
Wow just wow!!im 52 and remember clearly when they came out .and my wife is so understanding of how my own roots draw back to punk and 70s rap.great interview thank you !
..... what is 70's rap, I am first generation to grow up on HOP and from Compton....I grew up on Beastie, they watched LL, PE etc...so they aren't your generation, but at 54, they are mine. #GENxONdeck

what a great interview. What a great interviewer too,, great questions, comforting voice. .... and great interviewees ,,,
Such a good interview 🙌
Thanks! been looking for this for a while
Wonderful, all three of them.
She looks amazing, not only because it is bloody rare to see older women accepting their age without fake hair, fake everything but because she looks AMZING doing it.
Compared to how she looked in the 90s? No
@@jesseporter3397 No Jesse - because so many older women dye their hair, get face fillers and generally shy and retire from any exposure that will spotlight their natural aging.
She has always dressed kind of normal, it´s actually part of her appeal.
Agreed, she's a stunning woman and refreshing to a woman just be the fu××ing actual age they are.
@@yragnellaable The pressure is major intense to presrve any remminance of youth. I mean - I don't know how old you are but, if you have women frinds who are Gen X, likely they are all (possibly secretly) almost totally grey haired.
My tastes were always more underground & I joined the Riot Grrl movement in the 90’s. I felt so empowered by it. Kathleen was & is an amazing, passionate voice for women & we as women, are all better for it. Continue to roar, grrl!
We need you.. help us!! 💜
Beastie Boys very much got me into a lot of underground music I may have never discovered, including Kathleen's work. Shaped me a lot in my adolescent years and made me the person I am now. There's a lot to be said for being a white teenage boy and listening to Bikini Kill or Public Enemy and realizing maybe the way you see the world isn't how it is for everybody else.
It's fascinating you define someone like Kathleen, who goes on to interview for Dan Rather and get wide exposure, "underground". Have you heard of this new, ultra-exclusive cafe, Starbucks?
@@crapadopalese In the late 90s suburban Canada? No way I was hearing of her if I didn’t know she was dating a Beastie Boy.
@@balohna Yeah I guess for me the word "Underground" means more than just obscurity, but rather a whole philosophy and approach towards the mainstream. For instance, not sure I would say Justin Bieber's pre-2008 music is "Underground". But to each their own.
You're just another straight guy trying get laid.
@@crapadopalese gtfoh she wouldn't be there if not for adrock, Rather basically said himself shes a footnote in his introduction of her smh.
I just realized not only what a colossal figure in my life Dan Rather has been through the prominent visibility of his work (and the integrity he brought to that important job), but also on how much I just really like him as a person (I guess as much as one can when you can't give anything back to them). He just makes me feel good and like things are on the up and up, if only for the moments I'm watching him. Those moments come extra precious these days.
Like Bob Ross
Nice interview always a pleasure 💜🌻💛
This was such a great interview/conversation with two of the most real people out there. I'm just sad I didn't see it earlier. I definitely learned something from this. Thank you Dan Rather and for posting this on the tube!
Wonderful interview, wonderful people!
Thank you for reaching through all genres of music
That's one hell of a meet-cute. Also: this is easily one of the best things on UA-cam.
Thanks Ben ! Another great share.
Great video thank you for posting
I would love to just watch them chatting during a normal day at home. I can only imagine their convos and how amazing they are in their private lives.
I watched this interview twice within a few days time. Great artist's, great pair of people and awesome questions by the interviewer 👌❤️
I can't think of a better modern day series than "Big Interview". Freakin' love Dan Rather! RIP MCA.
I have read the beastie boys book except for the last few pages because I don't want the book to end. So it just sits on a table. Officially not finnished. One of the weird things that makes me happy !!!!
That is kind of sweet. My ex husband got it for me so the emotional turmoil has kept me away but thats changed
Uhhhh, I’m so grateful ❤️😻🕊
Not sure how I got here but loved it, beautiful, love them both more, sweet hearts.
You guys are sooo cool! (Genuine not sarcasm lol).. thank you both for being voices to gravitate towards in my youth. There aren’t enough thank you’s (now that may be my play on the New York accent haha). Great questions as well!
I have LOVED these folks for so long. I still LOVE them!
Thanks!!!
Their book is so interesting, got bigger muscles now from holding it! Love the Beastie Boys.
Just when i thought Ad-Rock couldn't be any cooler, he comes out wearing Tretorns. Thanks for sharing this outstanding interview. Loved every second.
Great interview 😊
That was awesome!

I loooooooove them all !!
Adam Yauch was gorgeous.
Thanks for sharing 👍
This is one of the COOLEST interviews I’ve seen in a long time. Authentic, deep, fun…I could go on….just so QUALITY! Actually worth my attention!! Dan Rather is an icon🎶♥️🌎🎉
It wasn't authentic LMAO
Gotta hand it to Kathleen for avoiding the botox and filler. Best wishes to both of them.
So refreshing to see a regular human being.
What people do with their bodies is up to them.
@@13strong who claimed they couldn’t?

Thank you Ben! Awesome interview.
AH! 2 legends who also love each other …so cool
i used to live next the beastie boys. adam is who really lived there up in the hills (lookout mountain) he was always so cool to me. Hed stop & talk & the whole time I just wanted to grab him & say “i love u so much!” haha
great guy, icon, etc, and she seems awesome in everyway
LEGENDS.
Love and respect to both of them.
That was delightful.
God i miss the boys together, Adam Y. Is a loss I'll never get over, was rockin the boys since I was 11 in 1987, my older brother played them and it was love at 1st rhyme, There will never be a trio like this, they've locked this format style of 3 MCs down, anyone to TRY and do it would instantly be compared to them, so when comes to this type a shit they paved the way. MCA is one of my heroes too, he was definitely the most articulate of the group, I love Flowin' Prose MCAs alone and those lyrics are deep and inspiring. He's got depth of perception in his text y'all!
Predetermined destiny is who I am
You got your finger on the trigger like the Son of Sam

And what a nice looking couple those two are together.
That's a fine example of chemistry.
What good people.

Just to hear Dan Rather say " You've gotta fight , for your right ...to party "
This was great. It took Adam a while to answer sincerely, but once he did it was a great interview. I have criticism for the editing showing a preponderance on License to Ill era footage, got old after a while. Good stuff.
How am I just seeing this? I have no idea why it matters to me that the people who sing the songs I love turn out to be cool people .
Them teasing each other the whole interview is so great.
They truly love and know eachother so well ❤❤❤
