I've had trouble telling Mike and Ad-Rock's voices apart for years on albums and yet their speaking voices couldn't sound more different. Mike sounds the same and Adam's voice is insanely deeper than you'd believe.
Here's when it clicked for me: Yauch = deep, Mike D = high, Ad-Rock = bouncy.
@@andrewryan5766 MCA = gruff, Mike D = smooth, Ad Rock = wild.
MCA is unmistakable, Mike Dee was moderate and smooth while Ad Rock was high and like Andrew Ryan said, "bouncy"...I've always liked Ad Rock thr most because he had the lines and flow of an intricate emcee
Wow, I thought I was the only one who struggled telling their voices apart lol

Yup I never knew this either. The internet is a strange place.
no he meant it took him 30 years to learn how to pronounce acronym
Doesn't that technically mean the name of the band is Boys Entering Anarchistic States Towards Inner Excellence Boys?
yea but its just a joke ...you do get that ?
Right
I really love how Ad-Rock pause and makes that face after he says “1992 to 2007”. It’s a testament to how fast time flies and how fragile it is.
I was blessed to see Beastie Boys in 1994 at Lollapalooza.. they are the loudest band I've ever seen in my life. My ears rang for 2 days afterwards... totally worth it too!
i saw that one too when i was in boston and they played in i think rhode island- highlight being crowd surfing and got pushed onto the stage- downside of that was security made me go out the side and then i couldn't find my friends for 12 hours- wasn't exactly the cell phone era- saw them in philly in the 2000s too
When I saw them at Palooza everyone agreed they should have been the headliner, amazing ☺️
@@jflatty5389 I was there too - Suffolk Downs with the pumpkins, tribe, and PFunk
I also saw them Lollapalooza '94, Summerfest Milwaukee Was a great show
They played for my birthday in Minneapolis, I will never have a better party. EVER
5:36 the fact he got away with saying “the fuck” on national tv without getting bleeped is fucking awesome.
Awesome is a volcano going off in front of you. Getting away with a curse on tv is not awesome.
I miss the boys so bad it hurts my heart to the core. Rip Adam. Im 44 years old and grew up on the boys. Saw them when I was young in Brooklyn in a little hole in the wall venue. Got to rub elbows with all 3. I was also playing music then and contributed some samples and ideas to the punk stuff and so on. Haven’t spoke to any of them since Lalapalooza in the mid 90’s. I was playing backup guitar for P-Funk at the time. That was the last time I saw them all together in one place in person. I love and miss that era with all my heart. And I miss the boys every day.

Changed the game forever.
A year in a day-Yauch killed it and the bass on Hello Brooklyn blew my speakers out!
That’s crazy
Best album ever. Of any genre.
I was 11 when it came out .That album would cost millions of dollars to make now because of the insane amount of samples they used. The laws were different. You will NEVER hear anything like that again, it would be too expensive to make an album like that.

You will be remembered as a legend.
Hard to believe it's been a whole decade since we lost him
I also wish I could've told Adam Yauch how much I loved him. These guys are such legends.
As a New Yorker I was lucky enough to have seen the three B Boys walking around from time to time when I was young. The best one was on 7th Ave by the Library Church when I was pushing a supermarket cart full of film equipment with a girl I went to class with. These two older guys behind us on bikes were loudly talking about some other guy getting some sort of sneaker. When we hit the light we were side by side and boom one of the guys is Horowitz. I stared slightly and he said to me “what’cha filmin’”? I responded it was a school project and he responded that he hoped it came out cool. Next time I saw him he was w the other B Boys filming a music video on the Houston playground, circa 2003ish.

One night in 1987 or 1988 I was outside CBGB's waiting to get in to a show (local ska bands - I think Second Step, Urban Blight, maybe the Toasters). Back then Ad Rock was dating Molly Ringwald. They come walking up to the venue with Mike D. Dr. Know from the Bad Brains was there and said something I could not make out, but obviously drawing attention to Ad Rock and Molly. The crowd of people out there start hollering and checking them out. Molly looks annoyed and maybe scared. They turn around and leave.
that's really fuckin cool.
@@innaminute523 i got an adrock story too. I was working at tekserve and dating a girl named ashley who loved the beasties more than anyone i've ever met (even since). I got the chance to fix ad rocks issues, and when he came to pick it up, i called her over to the store. I told ad rock she was not a normal fan, and i would be forever grateful if he would just say hi to her on the way out, but he went out of his way to bend down and talk to her, (she went red and couldn't speak) and basically just be really nice to her. What a fucking guy. She couldn't stop crying happy but mad that she couldn't talk tears. Was a good day.
These guys are so low key badass. It's not something you can copy.

One of the greatest bands ever. They took their time between records but it was more than worth the wait.
Personally, I can't say I ever liked them as they weren't part of my musical tastes but you've got to respect them for how they influenced music by doing what they wanted, when they wanted.
That ring prank was also excellent, simple but excellent.
Yeah. As a big football/soccer fan, waiting for them to release an album was similar to waiting for the World Cup to come around.
Nah
@monokhem Wrong. Licensed To Ill is classic; Paul's Boutique, Check Your Head, and Ill Communication are damn near flawless; Hello Nasty is fantastic, if a bit bloated; To The 5 Boroughs is the weakest, but there's still some essential cuts; Mix-Up is a great kick-back record; and Hot Sauce Committee showed they were pushing their sound in interesting directions to the very end.
It's good to take time between records. However, you have to be multitalented to do so and remain an interesting feature for the public eye. Beastie Boys did this for a ridiculously great, extended spell. Those who are slating their output really need to listen up a bit more - Licensed to Ill was a shit LP. However, the output following it was fucking incredible. Hello Nasty was their last great release and should be noted as such but hey, that space between was nigh-on flawless.
Never judge an old man. You just NEVER know. Look at these guys! THEY ARE THE BEASTIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Adrock is such a mood in every interview 😂😂

We need to see more of them. These two have too much creativity, good taste and talent to sit on the sidelines. I know Yauch is gone, but 2 Beasties have so much to offer and need to collab again. Even if it isn't under the name "Beastie Boys"... they need to start making music again. It's so sorely needed. Current music is only getting worse and worse by the day. We need these guys back. You can't tell me that these two don't have more amazing music in them. We need it.
Adam has been doing film soundtracks, Mike does DJ sets and hosts a radio show. They've been in the public eye for 30 years, they've more than earned the right to lead chill, private lives.
@@Angie-PantsTheir right to lead chill private lives has nothing to do with the point I was making. What I'm saying is, I believe these two have much more music in them. They stopped because of MCA's death, but their creativity and talent would have continued to producing more music otherwise, so they should strongly consider making a different collaboration among themselves or with other artists. You don't have to be in the public eye to create music. Kathleen Hanna creates music at her home and rarely does anything public. Adrock and Mike D should consider doing that too. I know these two have much more music in them.
Very True. They didn’t typically write their own raps. They are great at rapping one of the other boys words. They all were good musicians too. On Check your Head they played the instruments and they played well. The last few years of them touring they did a instrumental set in the middle of the show. Mostly instrumental funk jams. Great stuff. The Mix Up and The In Sounds From Way Out. Two of their funk albums that totally kick ass. Great stuff. So I gotta agree that they should do some producing or make a funk album. Or EP. Anything. I would love to hear what they can put together with modern technology. Moogs, Drum machines, samples. The album Paul’s Boutique has the most samples of all time
I saw them with Run DMC on the Together Forever tour when I was 15 ❤️❤️❤️
I grew up with their music. It was such a huge part of my life . I’m middle aged now and anytime I hear their music I still smile and bob my head. G.O.A.T.

I remember getting Paul’s Boutique and Check Your Head at the beginning of each Summer and playing it in my car’s tapedeck so much that I memorized all the lyrics to those albums and the tape warping due to the heat.
