  • Pros and cons of living in Verde Valley, Arizona.
Cottonwood, Cornville, Clarkdale, Camp Verde, Rimrock Arizona are the five major towns that make up this sweet rural community. Nestled between the Phoenix desert and pines of Flagstaff, this often overlooked area has many cool features that make living here a blast. But also a few dark things to watch out for.

my grandparents owned property between Camp Verde and Rimrock - love the area and the small towns around the Verde river. Wonderful memories, would retire there for sure!

I grew up there and moved away when I was 15. Beautiful area. The River has been eroded at the banks horribly bit still lots to do

Yeah I grew up in the verde valley. There’s not much to do in cottonwood unless you’re into hiking, fishing, skateboarding...I do like the weather during the winter time... it seems like cottonwood has always attracted low income people or retirees. I think Cottonwood is still the meth capital of AZ. I’ve seen some pretty sketchy people there... more than places like flagstaff or Prescott. Also I think many cwood residents actually commute to Sedona for work. I’ve lived there for a long time and I don’t really wanna live there anymore. I’ll visit though and check out the new belfry brewery.

I used to live in Cottonwood a long time ago and used to commute to Sedona everyday

Thanks for the heads up on this. Didn't think there'd be a big base of methheads there. Those are the ones that will resort to criminal activity to support their drug habit, & that's a problem.

Cottonwood sucks ass, I like living in Flagstaff much more. Flagstaffians are friendlier also.

The law enforcement is still trying to clean it all up. The area is just a mess unfortunately. Big meth and fentanyl problem. A lot of old classmates from high school ended up using meth…

Your video has actually discouraged me from wanting to move there anymore. One thing you neglected to mention that was mentioned to me by a local tour guide on the Verde Canyon Railroad was that some of the really nice new homes built in Clarkdale were built on top of contaminated soil from mine runoff of toxic stuff. The lady that told us that the builders were required to remove a foot of topsoil where they built the new homes before they were allowed to build. That tourguide said she would never think about moving there because of a very likely possibility of the water table still being contaminated.

@@livinginnorthernaz Regardless of all this, those homes sure are beautiful. I remember driving by and seeing those monstrously big garages for parking their RVs or motorcoach buses.
You also forgot to mention Maynard James Keenan, famous lead singer of the band Tool, lives there in Jerome, & owns Merkins Vineyard there in Cottonwood & some restaurants there in Jerome as well. Although you might see him and run into him out in the area, some locals I've talked to there said he's not a big fan of the attention. They said he'll say hi to you, but that he'll get a bit off-standish if you ask to take a pic with him or for an autograph.

Yeah, there used to be sulfur pits from the mine smelting. We used to play in them. Been here all my life.

Depends on where you get your water from, I would guess it is piped city water coming from some other source. City provided water is typically tested periodically. And I would doubt private wells would be allowed in a potentially contaminated area.

I just went there about 3 weeks ago. And now I'm starting to get tempted again the closer I get to retirement. But I'm trying to get an answer as to any nearby shooting ranges for designated target shooting areas for 2nd amendment enthusiasts.

There is a nice shooting range in Camp Verde on SR 260, I think the name is Copper Star but I'm not sure

Hello! I plan to move to Sedona or around in 2023. So I would like to know in what areas one can get a small one family house within $400,000-and I know it's not much to spend for property in this area. Thank you!

I made the mistake of moving to Camp Verde, AZ! After recovering financially from a divorce, busted my Ar$E to get another home, HATE paying rent! Moved to Camp Verde thinking it would be a GREAT retirement area! Sedona, Flagstaff, Cottonwood, Prescott and Phoenix an hour and a half away! I bought a cheaper mobile in a section of town that was just annexed by the city from the county. Was promised the city was going to pass ordinances making some of these people clean up their trashy property and WAS planning to take the mobile home out and build a nice retirement home! Well, 10 years later and wasting a lot of time and effort, my white trash neighbor still let's his grass grow up to 5 foot, he's a drunk and is a total nightmare of a neighbor, his property should be condemned. It's NOT just him, in about a 3 block area, at least 50% of the properties are run down junk yards! Waist high grass, junk cars, piles of trash all throughout their property! Bunch of good old boys around who care NOTHING about cleaning up their town, increasing property and resale values! The city government is a joke! The politicians care only about one thing, appeasing these losers just to get their vote and care NOTHING about growing and improving their communities! You DO NOT want to invest your hard earned money and retire in this backwards dump of a town! I've met with the Mayor, several city council members and got nothing but excuses and lip service!

are you in that area by the river close to old town Camp Verde? Or Verde Lakes?

@@livinginnorthernaz Verde Lakes area! Don't worry, the Mayor and her bunch keep the Downtown squeaky clean! But do not care about the rest of the town! All I ask is support the Good Citizens who work HARD for their property and homes. I want my neighborhood to be as nice and clean as down town, but they do not care! I have trashy people on the street that will not mow their yards, abandoned vehicles and trash in their yards, yet code enforcement does NOTHING! There is an AZ real estate Law called Nuisance Property's! If their trashy property effects your property values, the city CAN make them clean it up or their are CRIMINAL PENALTIES, but they refuse to enforce this LAW!

Sounds like you took a gamble buying in a less desirable area hoping the area would turn around. Often, it's the people who make an area undesirable rather than any other aspect, and people tend to stay the same. Only if enough new people move into an area will it change.

@@joncox9719 is your name Karen by any chance? If all you care about is increasing your property value, you have a twisted outlook on life. leave people alone, is that tall grass really hurting your quality of life that much? im sure those people like the way they live and dont apprentice people like you bossing them around to conform into your property increasing plan. that's called gentrification!

Your depiction of our valley should be left off the internet, where did you come from? CALIFORNIA, Ft. VERDE DAYS WASN'T CANCELED, NEITHER WAS CORN FESTIVAL OR HALLOWEEN, OR AS YOU PUT PEEEECAN FESTIVAL IT IS CALLED PECAN FESTIVAL, MAYBE YOU SHOULD GO BACK TO PHOENIX, THE 2 BIGGEST EMPLOERS HERE ARE THE CASINO ( WE ONLY HAVE ONE BY THE WAY NOT 2, ) AND THE PHOENIX CEMENT PLANT IN CLARKDALE, THERE ARE MANY FINE COMPANIES THAT CALL THE VERDE VALLEY HOME, I'VE LIVE HERE FOR 43 YEARS AND I'M PROUD OF OUR TOWN. AND THERE ARE DRUGS AND DRUG ABUSE IN EVERY TOWN IN AMERICA INCLUDING GILBERT ARIZONA FROM SMALL TOWNS TO HUGE CITIES. AS LONG AS THERE ARE DEALERS THERE WILL BE BUYERS.....SO NEXT TIME YOU RUN DOWN OUR VALLEY MAYBE KEEP YOU BAD THOUGHTS TO YOURSELF. WE DONT NEED WHAT YOU'RE SELLING. AND THE HAUNTED HAMBURGER AINT THAT GREAT ANYMORE.
