I have lived in the White Mountains my whole life. When I do my shopping I travel half an hour into Show Low. I love all the shots taken. It was awesome seeing my home like that.
I like Show Low. I have a few friends that just moved there about 6 months ago. Show Low has very friendly people and the weather is great, along with the price of property. The property tax is pretty cheap also. My friend purchased 5 acres and he paid $21,000 for it, so just over 4000 an acre and his property tax is about $250 a year. There was electric installed at the street and a electrical pole and box already installed on his property. He is having a septic tank installed and also a 2000 gallon water tank installed . He had 2 loads of pea gravel delivered when I was there and had it spread around for his driveway. He also ordered a 2 room 1100 sf Amish cabin, that cost him $30,000 plus appliances and he also ordered a 700 sf shed/workshop from the same place. He also purchased a large aluminum carport to park his motorhome under along with his car and a few toys. He is also having 3 slabs of concrete poured next April for the cabin, shed and carport. When its all said and done he is going to be in it at about $95,000 , less than $100,000. That's awesome. I think I'm going to do the same thing. If anyone is thinking about purchasing property, they better do it soon, the longer you wait the more expensive it will be. Do it before the SHTF, because it's coming and if you wait until that happens you will be Shit out of luck. Take care Brother. Hawk out!!
My great grandfather came out here after he and my great grandmother emigrated from Finland. They had a homestead in the UP, but the West drew him. He made friends with the Earps, Tom Mix, Annie Oakley, and Wild Bill. He wanted my ggm to resettle out here, but she said no, she was staying in Michigan. It reminded her of home. Then my parents moved out here in the early 50's, to Tucson. They had 5 kids then (I'm the youngest of 8). But they ended up returning to Wisconsin after a year. One of my brothers, during his rving days, stayed in Apache Junction for 2- 3 months every year. And now, my husband and I moved our family out here several years ago. I love it here.

The last 15 years of my work as a P. I. I would go to Arizona for a month and visit most of the 7 towns. I like Sedona the best, due to the beautiful red rocks. The entire area is red rock, and the hiking is wonderful. One time I was maybe 1 mile from Sedona hiking around and decided to sit and just look at the beauty and rest. Around 15 min later I heard a noise to my left, and when I looked there was a deer standing 40 to 50 feet from me. We stared at each other for awhile then she ate some grass. When she finished, she looked at me again, then just walked off. The beauty of Arizona is hard to describe, but if you visit there, you'll go back again, and again. I'm moving to a rather small town on the first of September 1, 2021.

When I lived in Nogales many years ago, some of the miners lived here and would take the bus to Bisbee and return in the afternoon. Equally people from Bisbee would ride to work in Nogales and leave in the 4:30 bus to go back. As well, back then if you blinked you would miss Tubac, Continental and Tumacacori. Now they are bedroom communities for Nogales and Tucson.
Continental is getting swallowed up by the city of Sahuarita. The old company houses are still there (owned by the pecan co I believe) and the school house is a ballet school.
I just came across your channel and I really like the small town videos. I lived in Tucson from 1994 to 2000 and really loved the area. Although, I went back 10 years ago to visit some friends and I couldn't believe that parts of town where I used to eat and shop was totally closed down along with most of the mom & pop stores that I used to shop. While living there, I have visited some of the small towns (Tombstone, Bisbee, Douglas, Sierra Vista, Flagstaff, Oro Valley, and around the Phoenix area. I am Planning a cross country trip on horse back for next year and wasn't sure if I wanted to add Arizona on the trip, but after viewing your channel on small towns, I'm thinking about reconsidering. I have really enjoyed your videos and hope there will be more to come.
My brother lives in Tucson and has for years since 1990 when he attended University of AZ. I use to go there and visit with them. I went back in 2020 for thanksgiving. Thanks to Covid a lot places were boarded up, the Campus was a ghost town, and the homeless have set up camps in the riverbeds. His adult children moved away as there are no real job opportunities there anymore. Too bad.
You better consider water sources. Colorado River, Lake Mead is also drying up. Land owners aren't really friendly sharing their land and water. Watch the movie/docu show "Unbranded."
I cant believe how much show low has grown. My parents and i used to up there during the summer and spend a week or more. We also went to Springerville to vist family. Its been about 40 years ago. I still want to move to Springerville. I live in Tucson
I'm from show low and it's so sad anymore. Still love visiting but foe a short time. Too many ppl and so many new ppl who destroy the back country with their motorized vehicles 😞 I do miss how it use to be
The family and I were in Young, AZ recently. Had never been before and was a awesome little town to visit but not much for amenities. Smallest town feel I've come across while being born/raised out here in ye ol AZ.
I love that in the show low part you got the part driving in and seeing the safeway!! Lol. Last big spot to fill up gas and grab groceries before visiting small towns like Greer and St Johns
native here from Ahwatukke, love my arizona small towns. epsecially those up north like show low, portal, greer. never been to greer, looks amazing! Bisbee down south would be cool too due to the elevation. basically if i can hide form the heat im happy. i never knew the fact arizona can hold the hottest and coldest city in a day, this state is full of surprises.
The area around Bisbee has some natural caves to visit, plus The old Queen underground mine tour, Tombstone, Wilcox (Rex Allen days), Dos Cabezos and an old Butterfield stage depot at Dragoon.
Beside showlow being named by a turn of a card, the players were two prominent rancher of the area and the stakes was the winner would have the whole area for his ranch and the other would find a new ranching area
I went camping with some buds from back east at the Grand Canyon over Memorial Day weekend. They thought they were coming to AZ to catch some rays, but instead it snowed.
My wife and I love Arizona. We live in Maine (central-northern, away from the coast). We have a daughter that lives in Tucson. We were surprised at the number of locations in Arizona that look like inland areas in Maine.
Wow. Never been but I'd always imagined Maine as being filled with dark blue-green coniferous trees such as in the higher elevations of The Rockies. Our forests are more yellow-green such as those in the mountains separating Los Angeles from The Mohave Desert .
We really do not want liberals moving into our red state. The reason this state is so enjoyable is the lack of the leftist overrules. We are free in the state of Arizona as long as the left is taught they are not welcome.
Everyone thinks AZ = Phoenix or Tucson... And as much as I LOVE Phoenix, if you have a problem with the heat you only have to drive like 1.5 hours north to start to get to environments that are notably different.
South Fork of Cave Creek in the Chiricahuas is consistently voted by birders the favorite place to go for bird watching. The mountains of SE Arizona are the northern terminus of the west Mexican mountains, so have a great deal of endemic plants and birds.
Parking can be a real problem anywhere near the rim. For best dinner, book ahead. Park where you can but it may be a ten-minute hike from the restaurant Sunset photos/videos from Bright Angel ---------------------------------------------------------------- On a dull cloudy late afternoon I left my tripod in the car because the light was so bad. Lo and behold, we had just ordered dinner when the western sky cleared. I was left without a tripod to video the most colourful and amazing sunset I have ever seen, this is rocks and canyon colours I'm talking about, forget the clouds. Unforgettable with the canyon illuminations switching in a second between pink/red to yellow in a second, made possible by the sun shining through a crevice somewhere west. It would have been better video if I had brought the tripod up the hill. Motto: If you are near the rim around sunset, keep your gear handy. Good luck with the sunset
I live in New York City but from Arizona born and raised...I miss home ...but watching this video makes me think I'd love to live outside of from Bisbee in mind if I ever go bk I'd make sure to give that place a visit
At one point in life those Properties we're affordable. Currently we are Pricing homes & property parallel to San Francisco, San Diego, Brentwood, Hidden Hills etc. The New California! "Arifornia" 🙃
Carefree is north of Scottsdale. I went there with my mom because she wasn't quite up to the two hour drive to Sedona. We had a very nice lunch, and there is a botanical garden where you can walk and learn about the local vegetation. One of my favorite places in Arizona 😍
Very informative video for folks wanting to visit the Southwest but also want some satisfying and quieter choices other than the mega AZ poster sites. Good job. We've been to all this video's places, 3 or 4 of them multiple times. Carefree is part of the gigantic Phoenix metropolis, yes, but being on the extreme north edge against the hills, it is sorta "hidden" and actually has a bit of the old west ambiance. In addition to these seven, we still love Sedona - heavily visited, but too beautiful not to keep returning. We used to like old town Prescott, but it's now surrounded by tacky American sprawl.
Love Arizona but for retirement, especially in the Phoenix area, I see a major water supply issue. Also, Phoenix has become so crowded and congested. I love the hiking all over AZ.
Greer is the most AMAZING town in AZ. It is our secret gem for sure. I've been there many times and July and August are lush green and beautiful ❤ I'm obsessed with Greer and am an az native of 31 years. Highly recommend anyone visiting the town, you will NOT be disappointed !❤❤❤❤ Google the photos, this guy went in winter so check out the summer there. Lush green💚
Beautiful video. I’ve lived in the Yavapai County high country for over 25 years. As much as I love it here, for financial and health reasons I am having to seriously consider moving down to the low desert. COVID left me with permanent breathing issues. Even with oxygen machines, the much lower oxygen levels at high altitude and respiratory double whammy(weakness on both in pans out breath) are not an ideal mix. The places you showed in the video were lovely, and sound very interesting. Other than Carefree though, I didn’t really get a sense of the cost of living. It doesn’t have to be too detailed, what you mentioned about Carefree is enough to let folks know they should do their homework to make sure a place would be a good fit for them You mention that a few of the places were sort of artist colonies, I’ve seen that increase property values. Of the places you visited, only Carefree seems like it would approach Sedona levels of cost of living. Most of the places were pretty isolated. I found myself thinking about things like “How far to a real grocery store and a gas station. If I were looking at one of these more remote places as a possible next home, for my peace of min, I’d want to be sure there was a secondary way in and out of the village in case of emergencies . Did you get much of sense of the residents in these communities? Do they seem like they’d be welcoming to newcomers? The place you mentioned being a dark skies haven, the more people/houses/requisite increase in businesses to serve more people, the more the light pollution. I could understand it if folks there weren’t to keen on the idea of much of a population increase. Regardless, this like all your videos makes me feel like I’m along for the ride, I get a sense of peace, particularly when you’re driving in the high country. It really lifts my spirits. Thank you for doing these.
I live in Lakeside, AZ. We have more Pine Trees per square mile here than anywhere in the world. It's beautiful up here in the White Mountains. I love living here.
Kool, always wanted to see Bisbee, it does look like Jerome on steroids. Wanted to see Portal too! My God, he made Show Low look like a glorified trailer park!! There are some of the most expensive winter-summer cabins than you could imagine! Several nice lakes. But thats ok, leave Show Low alone, its busy enough!

The town of greer did not actually burn down during the fire it almost did but the fire got close to the town and you can still see a bunch of dead trees everywhere it’s slowly going back to how it used to be though.
Thank you. Have you ever done a video on Ajo? Very interesting history and it is a designated wildlife preserve area as well. Coyotes howling at night, Javelinas wandering the streets, amazing area close to Mexico and Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. The former famous Curley Art School, is still open, being used for housing, a pottery studio, with a wonderful small hotel, & an educational organic farming site where they give out free compost and you can volunteer. VERY small town, people are friendly. This is just a short description. There is a lot more!

I live in Tucson and I enjoy videos like this. I prefer small town living. I was in Tubac (always heard it pronounced Tu-back) a couple weeks ago. And on that subject - Tumacacori I have always heard pronounced just as it's spelled - 5 syllables with the accent on the 3rd (the one you fail to pronounce at all). But thanks for taking us around the state in your video.
@@corilia9529 No, that's from the movie "For a Few Dollars More" when Lee Van Cleef says "This train will stop in Tucumcari" and then pulls the emergency cord to stop the train. As the person wrote earlier, Tumacacori has 5 syllables. It's barely a town. Small stretch off U.S. 19 just south of Tubac (Tu-back). My parents lived in Tubac for over 25 years so I've been there many times. Not once have I heard either place pronounced like the narrator of this video.

Continental? Theres no town called Continental down here and i live just south of Tubac
Continental is getting swallowed up by the city of Sahuarita. The old company houses are still there (owned by the pecan co I believe) and the school house is a ballet school.
Yes you will love the blistering heat!
Boy your butt is going to be sore
I remember them with great pleasure! Visited these small towns 20 years ago (coming from Germany).
AZ is my home state. This makes me want to move back.
I love that in the show low part you got the part driving in and seeing the safeway!! Lol. Last big spot to fill up gas and grab groceries before visiting small towns like Greer and St Johns
Lived in Az for almost 70 years and will say it has become a mini California.

Oh, noooo!
Including the gangs drugs and homeless.
No, not even close
@@KB-hx3px Were you here 70 years ago
native here from Ahwatukke, love my arizona small towns. epsecially those up north like show low, portal, greer. never been to greer, looks amazing! Bisbee down south would be cool too due to the elevation. basically if i can hide form the heat im happy. i never knew the fact arizona can hold the hottest and coldest city in a day, this state is full of surprises.
Enjoyed the tour. Friendly note: Too-maw-CAW-corie; Dee ANza; San Hawv-year. Definitely.
The area around Bisbee has some natural caves to visit, plus The old Queen underground mine tour, Tombstone, Wilcox (Rex Allen days), Dos Cabezos and an old Butterfield stage depot at Dragoon.
Yes!
Old Queen? Wow! Who knew Bisbee was so progressive! 🤣
My mother was born in DOS Cabezas I love going there just to feel closer to her beautiful place.
@@ElizabethMartinez-bb9gv It is indeed peaceful there.
Looks like you missed Jerome on your list. Show Low looks like a great place to sleep - little else!
Its just that so many there are sooo crazy.
Good video. Informative but straight to the point. No excess babbling. Vert useful. Thanks so much.
Patagonia. We were there winter 2010. If it hasn't changed! High desert. Very nice.
South Fork of Cave Creek in the Chiricahuas is consistently voted by birders the favorite place to go for bird watching. The mountains of SE Arizona are the northern terminus of the west Mexican mountains, so have a great deal of endemic plants and birds.
My Grandmother was born in Bisbee, AZ. I've always wanted to check it out. Cool.
I was lucky enough to spend many summers in Arizona. Mainly the Tucson area. These were new cities to me. Great video.
Parking can be a real problem anywhere near the rim. For best dinner, book ahead. Park where you can but it may be a ten-minute hike from the restaurant
Sunset photos/videos from Bright Angel
----------------------------------------------------------------
On a dull cloudy late afternoon I left my tripod in the car because the light was so bad.
Patagonia is well worth a look. 4,000 ft. elevation, population
I'm from Pennsylvania and the places you show up in the Mountains are much like the Poconos in Northeastern Pa.!
Lovely presentation of these towns I know well. I live in Green Valley, 30 miles south of Tucson, and frequently take visitors to these places.
I had a friend who lived in Green Valley. A lot of senior citizens and mobile homes.
Love Bisbee. Used to deliver ice cream out there a few years ago
Beautiful!! Never been to Arizona but looks like a lovely place would love to visit soon.😊
I live in New York City but from Arizona born and raised...I miss home ...but watching this video makes me think I'd love to live outside of from Bisbee in mind if I ever go bk I'd make sure to give that place a visit
Thank you for this. I’m moving out there in two weeks and I’ll definitely have plenty of weekend trips ahead of me!
Same- I’ll be moving there in 4 weeks and definitely plan to check some of these cool towns out!
I’m planning my move to AZ in September. Not sure where I will end up ☀️😎
Cool I been here over 20 years is fun
I love Carefree and Cave Creek...my favorite places in Arizona.
Great places- b u t VERY EXPENSIVE TO BUY HOUSING!
At one point in life those Properties we're affordable. Currently we are Pricing homes & property parallel to San Francisco, San Diego, Brentwood, Hidden Hills etc. The New California! "Arifornia" 🙃
"Was" affordable
Thank you very much for this wonderful tour of Arizona small towns.
Love Arizona but for retirement, especially in the Phoenix area, I see a major water supply issue. Also, Phoenix has become so crowded and congested. I love the hiking all over AZ.
I'd have to disagree.
People in California call Phoenix LA east
Check the local news as of March 2023 regarding the water situation. Dismal.
Lovely presentation my friend 👏. Well done.
Could you do a video on Williams, Az looking at buying land out there and would like to know more about it
I have always loved Parker Arizona and that nice river
Great video. We love going to Bisbee. It's a cool town that is like stepping back in time
Greer is the most AMAZING town in AZ. Lush green💚
Great video. Wonderful editing as well. Just subscribed.
Right here with you . 3rd year living here and not leaving
is it expensive there?
There is a hot springs between Yuma and el Centro Amazing for the cooler months❤
Agree 100% weekend traffic sucks
Really liked carefree, they even have a beautiful place for English afternoon tea 🍵 🫖 🍵 🫖 🌹 🌺 🌸
I think az is the prettiest and most diverse for climate. CA too, but I'd take az hands down over cali.
Washington is too but they ruined that 😂
True but California hands down has better mexican food considering they're closer to the border than az however both places are beautiful
@@rosalindavasquez4353 I agree on the Mexican food part but saying California is closer to the border than Arizona is like saying Washington is closer to the ocean than oregon
Even prettier than Colorado?
You really need to see the blue ridge in Appalachia. Makes California look ugly top to bottom
i spent the last 15 months visiting the SW and AZ a lot. its remarkable how oriented i am watching these videos.
so much to see and do and so little time 🤟🏼😎
The town of greer did not actually burn down during the fire it almost did but the fire got close to the town and you can still see a bunch of dead trees everywhere it’s slowly going back to how it used to be though.
Retiring out that way soon. So exciting to see all the places I could visit.
Thanks for your post. I hadn't heard much about the town. Now that you list all those things, I think I might make a day trip there some weekend.
Gosh every time I travel to Arizona from California I end up in Ajo. The bakery has the most wonderful muffins and there's the most unexpected sign above the door in the dining room lol! I'm not going to give it away, the muffins are too good to not recommend 🤠
@@BillGreenAZ heck yeah it's gorgeous! I'll be back myself soon....
I spent some time in Ajo. Not to far from the border. They had some nice cabins you can rent with a swimming pool for those hot summer days. Border patrol station is a few miles south and a little bit further south is a casino.
A very beautiful place
Yes, I absolutely agree. Ajo has wonderful people and close to many nice mtb trails. Great museum as well. Weather is nice in winter.
Pleasant voice and well done. You forgot the St. Elmo's bar in Bisbee..!!
Tucumcari?
@@corilia9529 No, that is New Mexico
@@corilia9529 No, that's from the movie "For a Few Dollars More" when Lee Van Cleef says "This train will stop in Tucumcari" and then pulls the emergency cord to stop the train. As the person wrote earlier, Tumacacori has 5 syllables. It's barely a town. Small stretch off U.S. 19 just south of Tubac (Tu-back). My parents lived in Tubac for over 25 years so I've been there many times. Not once have I heard either place pronounced like the narrator of this video.
Lol, I knew exactly where you were when you drove around Greere. I visit there almost every year. 10/10 highly recommend
Great video! I live in Tucson and appreciate the diverse climates in this state. There’s something for everybody.
Pine or strawberry nice, happy jack, i loved
