  • Im sure there are lots of us that ride motorcycles for long day trips or even longer. In those instances a Motorcycle GPS can really come in handy. Sadly though, they are really expensive. Not sure why the big brands charge so much but they do. We ended up buying this Chinese Motorcycle GPS from banggood.com ( I believe the brand is Karadar ) which came in at less than half the price of a Garmin or TomTom Motorcycle GPS. Real question though is… Does it work. Well this video is really the part one as we unbox this unit and take a look at what it comes with. Follow up video coming soon.

    I just picked up one of these and now have it mounted to my motorcycle. Looking forward to some long rides this season to see how it performs! Plus I no longer have to use my cell phone. Which is kind of a bonus. Just hope it works well. Fingers crossed!

    I just bought the MT5002. It's pretty much the same. Unfortunaly, the IGO navigator apps does't seem to update. It's supposed the be a free map update. I'm waiting respond from Karadar store...

    i have a 5 inch garmin in my van which is an excellent gps and i was thinking of using it on my bike as well, but this looks like a really good budget option, im wondering what its like in rural areas and what the glare is like on the screen

      Deep South New Zealand it’s not great in bright sunlight for sure, pretty hard to see. It also takes a fair bit of time to acquire satellites. But it’s good once it gets them. Really hard to decide if it’s better to just get a better gps. If the screen was brighter it would be a no brainer.

    I have the MT5002 model and I'm having problems recharging the battery, in fact I've always had this problem, this problem has always existed. Charging keeps oscillating, as if it were a bad electrical connection. I don't know what to do to fix this problem

    How has this been for you in terms of finding windy roads, special routes, extra features, etc?

    • @gregtoope
      @gregtoope  5 років тому +1

      The Golf Life doesn’t seem to have any of those features. That you would want an actual Garmin Zumo or something like that. Also the iPhone app ‘Scenic’ has features for that.

      Cruisn Canada What do you think of installing this on my MV Agusta? I want to do it but it’s kind of pricey and I don’t know if it would fit that well...

    Right now I'm either using my phone or the build in sat nav from the car. But I had a TomTom Go years ago, but I didn't like the touch screen. I really needed to press it pretty hard to get it working and during the winter I just got frustrated because the touch screen didn't work at all. Hopefully this one works in all weather conditions and I like the fact that it's running on Android.

    • @gregtoope
      @gregtoope  5 років тому +2

      The whole android thing was a big plus for me since I'm hoping that I can upgrade the os and possible install other apps. We shall see. Right now I'm just waiting for the weather to get better so that we can actually test it on the bike.

      Theodore Marakas I’ve been using a Garmin and it’s worked great. So far this one is working. Had to do some playing around in the settings. Also wish it was brighter. Really hard to see in bright light.

    You focus on it being cheap... I've bought one over a year ago, made one longer trip with it, after which I removed it from the bike and probably will not buy any Chinese-made GPS aby time soon. I think a regular phone will be much better than this GPS. What's the problem? Quality. My unit was displaying warnings about charging disonnected every now and then and then conneted again before it turned off. So all the time some pop up window distracting me. Then it would invariably turn off in the least suitable moment - complicated road or in an unknown city. Then, it did not charge correctly. And from time to time it liked to display screen upside down. I have tried to prevent popups or turning off with the settings, but with no success. I am really, really angry with this device - your phone will probably work fine (at least my phone is much more reliable than my Karadar). I planned to just keep on using the phone, but I do like the convinience of a dedicated GPS unit and in the end decided to buy TomTom - yes, it is super expensive, but now I have paid for both TomTom and Karadar, and Karadar is junk that went stright to trash bin. I would save money if I did not ever try this GPS.

      I still think It's over priced. Modern smart phones have gps capabilities, and, no cellular provider is needed. A cheap $20 prepaid smartphone works fine for gps considering this. Although I understand the water proof smartphones are more costly. A side note, there's many nice navigation apps available. Apps that are designed more to a gps unit UI. Instead of Google maps.
