Holy shit, Blender has come FAR. This is what happens when an indie project is supported this far. We get wonderful projects like Blender, Factorio, and (although somewhat early) Furnace.
@@sultankosmitov6293 Blender is at this point either very close to the same utility of other software, or actively better, and all completely free. Truly a gift.
TBH for so many years I have been working on video editing, color grading and 2D design. Seeing blender grow this fast and other people mastering 3D stuff makes me feel left out. I really want to do great stuff in 3D but I just don’t know where to start.
I love Blender... I'm a long time graphic designer, and use 3d rendering at times, and Blender, though it has a high learning curve, being that is like a Swiss army knife, and does everything, including straight video editing, it's really the best app out there for all it does... Wish I did more 3d work 😂
Massive update but man I can't remember the last time the modeling tools them selves got a major update, I think it says a lot when the thing I'm most excited for is collection exports
There's currently a lot of people fighting in the forums over the fact that Toon Shaders no longer work in the new 4.2 Eevee, and the answers to whether or not it's getting fixed are pretty fuzzy. I hope they figure something out, because as great as the new Eevee is, I can't move to it unless the Toon Shader problem gets fixed.
Definitely don't like this update to the extensions. I much prefer to install external add-on's rather than using a locked-down/connected system. I don't like any of my software to have an internet connection for any reason. I lock my firewall down tight.
Even 4.2 suffers from some very basic limitations (like lists not resizable, very slow UV editor with larger textures, switching from maximized window takes seconds in some cases, no snapping for linked assets etc.), which is something which affects any regular work. All the mentioned advanced features can't hype me up until the basics are fixed / improved.
@@litjellyfish Global illumination was one of the main reasons cycles looked more realistic than eevee. Now that you have a very good solution, you can render in eevee and not feel like you are missing out on quality.

It’s great still personally a bit tired of the term game changer and how it’s used. For me it’s improvements but it don’t overal change apart speed up workflows
@@litjellyfish Ofc Cycles still best for realistic renders with less things to add to get it done. Yeah most users say game changer like if it would replace cycles.

@@litjellyfish it's interesting how a game engine wants to be more than that. I tried UE 4 and 5 after some months from launch day when Meta Human wasn't implemented. Realism and speed are on their side, gonna check out the animation tools.
@@vineq9367 yes Nowadays the magnitude of assets in a game is core production things. And stands for % the work. And as the realtime graphics now means that assets don’t really need to be downscaled. And in that having it all in one environment reduces time and errors. I it’s the same that 2D software the last 20y or so have been trying to get realtime editing to look as close as possible to the final render. Again same core idea. As the time not to render but to validate that the desired look has been achieved took a huge production effort chunk. So wanting to reduce the tweak loop. So they piggy backed on game engine tech to achieve that. So for me it’s a natural evolution. I mean in the end it’s basically the same path visually. Only difference a game engine before was engine (they who run the output) and tools. And a 3D program was roll and output. Now I would say the only real difference is detail / fidelity. And that a game engine is constrained also by memory and disc space more than a 3D software that end goal outputs a movie / image with little memory demands (although a 4k movie with super quality can take some space ) And of course that a game engine also have the interactive aspect as added features and works flow. But say Unreal engine how can it NOT turn into a software feature wise on pair with Blender as time goes? Sure due to product feature priority sole features might ge lower due to say the interactive stuff. And I might be solved in different ways how to use it. But apart from that I see Blender and Unreal on the same roadmap. And I must confess that I think that in the end unreal might surpass Blender as a general 3D design and animation and fx package.
I have been using 3.6 because 4.0 was unstable. moving a vertices would crash it on 4.0 while 3.6 it is stable. Any idea it this update is more stable? Especially with simulations? I struggle to do simple simulations with a Ryzen 9 5900X cpu and a 3060.
the most obvious question but people like me will wonder "eevee with raytracing" will only be useful with "RTX" GPU, I have a GTX 970, I doubt I will see any use in it
Great video thank you! Any shadow catcher yet in Eevee please? Always worried every time a new build comes out as I have loads of addons that will stop working etc until they get updated by the devs!!
I dont know if anyone noticed that but with blender 4.2 update the evee render engine has gotten more heavier than cycles render engine. It took 10 seconds to render 20 samples on cycles default and 21 seconds to render on evee default settings. Note my pc spec ryzen 5 7600 , 16 gb ddr5 ram, gpu= igpu.
It is by design should be, as Cycles is real ray tracer in core from the beginning but EEve is some mix of tricks to mimic ray tracer look using good old classic. When it start to get close to Cycles in quality it should be much less efficient by definition.
The other thing is it's been at least a couple of major revisions and they haven't improved the performance of Grease pencil. It's still unusable in scenes with more than one Grease pencil object the viewport slows down so much that it's impossible to work with it.
2:13 is showing the old version of Copy Global Transform, as shipped with Blender 4.1. The new version in 4.2 also includes the "Fix to Camera" operator, and the ability to copy-paste relative to an arbitrary object or bone.
1:30 : I know you have to cram things in a short amount of time (I'm not sure who wants this short of an overview) but this is a bit too much 😄 1:45 : Why compare 4.2 against 3.6 instead of 4.1? 4:47 : I don't see anything new here. Nodegroup labels, color and socket reordering were there since at least Blender 2.7 if not earlier.
Sadly Eevee doesn’t work for me. Once I’m on it and click rendered or material preview, blender crashes. I was told I should try upgrading my 2020 installed AMD Radeon HD 8500M/8700M Driver but I can’t find any update. 😞

Thanks for the wonderful program. Blender is the future. Version 4.2 is still buggy for me. Blender stops working when switching to eevee. Wrote to technical support. I hope they fix it soon.
@4:49 what is new about the label and name for nodegroups. You said something about description but i saw you simply used the label. Thats not new or oerhaps you disnt have a video of it
I tried it out today but it left me very unimpressed. It doesn't respect the colors of area lights that have emissive shaders where the color is set by either color bandwidth or black body radiator. In addition objects appear with parts of their geometry missing below the plane when in material preview. And finally the amount of noise in the scene is tremendous. Obviously this new render engine is going to need a lot more work until it's ready for prime time.
let me know when the import is fixed. as far as i know you can import an object, but you can't move it around or edit it. kinda going backwards if you ask me.
