obviously this is insanely impressive, but something people tend to forget about production prices is that a lot of it is having to pay people to make it. any time spent working on this requires you to eat and pay rent and all that. a 0 dollar production is an instant production. basically a millionaire can take a year to focus exclusively on creating a video game with the cheapest tools available and say they did it on a "zero dollar budget", but was only able to do it because they had financial security at the start. any money they started with that they didn't have by the end of production WAS the budget, aka a year's worth of basic needs. EDIT: this is about my frustration at people not understanding what a budget is and why things cost money to make. even if this was a completely original project made from the ground up with only animation and no writing or anything, it still wouldn't be a 0$ budget.
Not only that, is not 250m only for models. Animation, extra effects, almost an hour of episode is not 5 sec frames of 3D moving. Voice actors, MUSIC and paying licenses, video + supervise + final toutches + renders + marketing + program licenses + time spent in drawing textures, background, script and writting, reunions, managment, work team needs, professional team and CEO and a buuuuunch of more things that we don't see
@@Sarsange Not only that, they should have spent a lot of money on previz and preproduction. An art direction and style as good as Arkane, you just don't stumble unto it. this is really cool, and you did an amazing job, but its important to remember that the budget wasnt spent only on animation. there are many other professions required; designing, voice acting, script writing, songs and so many more. no doubt you did an amazing job, just a little reminder.
Keep in mind that everything created is based on said expensive work and would be impossible to materialise otherwise. Creatively this is stepping on the shoulders of giants.
Yes! As an animator I can say using video reference to create animation is not as simple as just copying all the poses from a scene already animated. The process used on this video was something closer to rotoscoping a scene already animated. Recreating Arcane scenes at home is an impressive technical achievement, but the direct comparison, on top of a clickbait title talking about zero dollars can mislead the viewer into believing all the creative decisions made by Arcane creators would also be a cheap thing to achieve. This extends to all aspects of the production, direction, boards, design, etc. The need for click-baiting to promote a video that is already good content in the end hurts the entire art community. In this case it twists the perception of the cost of animation labour. Who really profits with this outcome are studio executives and cloud capital landlords.
@@joaocardoletto Completely agree. It's impressive the amount of work they put into recreating the scene as a fan, especially with all the from-scratch work they've done. But ultimately there's a reason theirs "cost $0" and Fortiche's Arcane cost $250M - it's the fact that the hours upon hours of work required to make Arcane would have been done by employees who needed to be paid for said hours, while this youtuber just essentially decided to do this on their own, for free. As well the amount of work they'd had to do to achieve the (similar) result (in visuals only) had been significantly reduced, via the fact that they already have a completely finished product to work off of and copy frame-by-frame. Like literally not pictured here are all the other aspects of production that were also needed to bring Arcane to life - design, concepting, storyboarding, pre-vis, direction, sound design and music, acting, even more 2D and 3D work, etc. Of course, none of that is cheap either. This video should try to stand on its own as just a cool and fun personal project, rather than click baiting about their budget costs, because it comes off as in bad taste and distracts from the rest of the video. It feels like it makes it more about diminishing the value of the work of all the people who made Arcane what it is - even if that's not necessarily the intention.
@@guitarherolegend55 oh give me a break. He LITERALLY spent 0 dollars, meaning, he made it without paid assets, that's impressive AND SHOULD be in the title
This!!! I don't think it's only about him not being paid for doing this (he probably monetized this video so he IS getting paid), but about how he initially made it on free animation softwares so it deserves to be there! He is an artist and I don't think he would want other artists to not be compensated for their work
As you said at the end of the video, the fact that you managed to accomplish all of this on your own is truly admirable. I completely understand what it feels like to work on a project entirely by yourself. My heartfelt congratulations, the quality is really good!
This is a good 90% recreation of the show made by one person. To make it the last 10% better, you need exponentially more people (also exponentially more experienced), making this "only 90% accurate recreation" so much more impressive. Truly hats off.
This is a really good point. With quality animation you reach a point of diminishing returns, but those diminished "high end returns" are what set apart good animation and incredible animation. FWIW, I liked Arcane but I'm not in love with it's animation style. It can be great at times and lackluster at other times.
There's also the matter of ideation, artworks, and music. Yes, Noggi used free tools, but the artworks he modeled everything on are paid works liberally "taken for inspiration" from the internet...

@@MerlinTheCommenter No absolutely not! I watched all the video in awe, I dabble in Blender a bit and still can't comprehend what Noggie is doing most of the times ahaha I just want to point out that creating something from scratch is very different than referencing pretty heavily an existing product, but most of the times youtubers tend to overlook this point, not even maliciously, but for time, flow and brevity concerns; the risk I think is the work of "background" heroes such as concept artists and rigging/texture/lighting experts is widly overlooked and chalked up to "yeah but random guy did it for free". Someone had to spend hundreds of hours of their lives coming up with the perfect formula for the artsyle and animation, that's not free!
As someone who works in the CG side in the movie industry, I can confirm that In most (if not all) projects, the renders include huge amount of additional data (many many AOVs) so that in compositing they have ALL the control they need to. The more CG and more VFX there needs to be, the more data is additionally exported for the purpose of "Creative Control".
The constant work on the pc turns all of us 3d artists into goblins over time, oh the misery. That's why we are obsessed with creating beautiful people, haha.
Yup, and also All that money is not just for cgi , they have to pay voice actors, stuntman, vfx artist, music, writers, rights agreement, musicians, food for like hundreds of people, plenty of more Basically VFX doesn't cost much, it's the VFX artist because no one would do this for free, so I think comparing the budget and saying we can recreate the show with 0$ is pointless Portion of 250M is for the time and work of vfx artists not just for the result

These skills take a fairly long time to get right, like at least 2 or 3 years of experience with studying and understanding references of real world objects and materials.

obviously this is insanely impressive, but something people tend to forget about production prices is that a lot of it is having to pay people to make it. any time spent working on this requires you to eat and pay rent and all that. a 0 dollar production is an instant production.
basically a millionaire can take a year to focus exclusively on creating a video game with the cheapest tools available and say they did it on a "zero dollar budget", but was only able to do it because they had financial security at the start. any money they started with that they didn't have by the end of production WAS the budget, aka a year's worth of basic needs.

@@joaocardoletto Completely agree there. I liked the video itself for what it showed, I really didn't like the title and what it appeared to imply.
@@ViciousTuna2012 you're right! Just to make it obvious to other readers btw: that's literally every skill, which is what OP is getting at when he said 10% needing exponentially more people. There's a name for this principle but I've long since forgotten it. I'm old now! Don't recommend it! 😂

@@MerlinTheCommenter No absolutely not! I watched all the video in awe, I dabble in Blender a bit and still can't comprehend what Noggie is doing most of the times ahaha
I just want to point out that creating something from scratch is very different than referencing pretty heavily an existing product, but most of the times youtubers tend to overlook this point, not even maliciously, but for time, flow and brevity concerns; the risk I think is the work of "background" heroes such as concept artists and rigging/texture/lighting experts is widly overlooked and chalked up to "yeah but random guy did it for free".

It looked masterful. Love this series and your video!
That's like saying you dont need good tools to build a new kitchen.. No, you dont, but with the good tools you can build the kitchen in 2 weeks and without it takes 4 months. Case in point, based on this video, it would take him 170 years to recreate the 2 season of Arcane.
If you just showed me the clip with no context, i would have just assumed that it was from the show. Incredible work!
I think you just uploaded your best video ever made!
This is too good. 📝✍
The background track just everything was awesome
12:40 Bald Jinx.

Holy shit didnt expect it to look that good great job! In the beginning where she walks up you could tell because it doesnt have enough depth and there is some pixel flickering, but after14:28 no chance for me to see the difference, crazy stuff.
Why is the music of the video that nice? Bro, I need your playlist.
Please create additional scenes with Jinx and Ekko

Love that you're doing this man, some lil kid will watch this and genuinely start a dream to create video games bc you've made it realistic🫶
Don't let the studio chiefs see this or they will think artists work, experience, training, equipment, tools, etc are worth 0$. 😅
Finally a tutorial without "it is impossible for a 3d artist to model so I would get this asset for $15 and call it a day" Congrats for really showing your skills.
yea. but the title is kind of clickbait.
0:50 destiny's intro?? what?
My extreme satisfaction at opening the video and see it's not fucking AI slop but actual human hard work and passion. What a magnific video and thank you for the tips along it

This is the most accurate reproduction of Fortiche style. Chapeaux! Just a side note: people tend to forget that time IS a cost. Unless you can do it in almost zero time it simply can't be 0$. Aaand what makes Arcane so mindblowing is not the style, sure it contributes, but the creativity of it from the story to the rendering tech.
I understand the concept, but I think "$0" is wrong considering you're using a very powerful computer, you have electricity, and a studio to work on this probably
things which are clearly not free
although as a concept it's cool
He had all those things already though. It's not like you bake a cake and tell people it cost $1020 to bake just because you already have a $1000 oven in your kitchen. the oven is simply what allows you to even bake a cake in the first place :)
