The bass-guitar sound of gojira is sooo underrated man. A lot of people tend to highlight only mario's drums sound and technique (which is amongst the best currently btw), but te bass is so ffffucking dope, and you can really apreciate it in songs like this one, or Global Warming. So awesome, unique tone and beautiful simplicity. It gives the band a lot more depth.
Bass is often underappreciated, which is sad as a bassist lol Have you heard Beyond Creation? If you havent definitely check them out, their bassist plays a fretless 6 string and the tones he gets with it are out of this world
I'm so glad that someone else is in here mentioning how goooood that bass guitar is, it MAKES the song lol. And yeah, Mario's is the best drumming I've personally ever heard lmao

dude, you're openness to new and different music has made me a fan! this is awesome to see someone not just discover gojira, but go and find out what they are about. cheers
Gojira gives me a Norwegian Black Metal vibe. Like we in Norway have Trolls and other mystic creatures in the projection of the lyrics, France has flying Whales. Not literally.. but this song just gives me the same vibes. If I close my eyes it's like an intense fantasy movie. Like Pan's Labyrinth.
I love the fact that you have an open mind. The fact that you listen to this music without any prejudice is really showing because you seem to enjoy it straight away!
Joe Duplantier's vocals are simply beautiful; often haunting and he conveys emotion exquisitely. This was the song that I was introduced to 13 years ago by my friend and I instantly fell in love. I go see them every year or two and I stand mesmerised by him. No jumping around, just mesmerised, soaking the vocals up. They melt my heart.
Andrew Trader this gojira song is more extreme than love. Love is actually quite tame for SYL and it has a great groove plus clean and screaming vocals. I think he'll dig it!
SadisticKillerXx from the laet album then yes, but most of the other albums are for metalheads. you're not gonna be able to make her listen to the grand conjuration it she's not used to growls
She is not used to growls, but Opeth has acoustic/clean singing songs like To Bid You Farewell, Credence, Face of Melinda, Benighted, Harvest, Hours of wealth, the whole damnation. Also Epilogue is a very good instrumental song
Your transitions and cut ins (ex. "Twelve Seconds Later") KILLLLLL ME. It's 100% how my inner monologue works as well and it breathes life into me! ------ Kills me! Then gives me life back! Please don't ever change the format of your vids!!!
I love that you're feelin metal bro. I wish more people would give this type of music a chance..some of the best musicians on the planet are in metal but because its alot of down tuned instrumentals and heavy vocals people dismiss it. This is some of the last purest music on the planet and the fact that you're helping spread the love is amazing. You're doing more than just reacting to metal videos, you're helping bridge a gap between genres...you're introducing your fans of other genres to this type of music and I appreciate the hell out of it. Makes me wanna do the same..I'm a hip hop/metal head all day and I'd love to see these two different cultures come together more often
Gojira are definitely masters of letting the instruments do the talking, particularly on this album. Songs like Global warming and Ocean planet just ooze feeling purely through the instruments for long periods on end. I love it
You should see this song played live-when I saw them live I was sadly in the balcony, but when the guitars kicked in the fucking crowd turned into a moving mass, and when it kicked in for real it was like the floor had turned into a mosh pit-fucking incredible.
Definitely recommend Silvera. The groove in that riff should appeal to a hip hop fan. I love it when the heavier metal bands do something that you can almost dance to or bob your head to but it's still heavy and aggressive.
Im actually suprised that you liked that song, its quite heavy and thus for advanced listeners of this genre. When non-metal friends ask me to describe how i like that music I always compare metal to an acquired taste like alcohol for example. The first drink tastes like ass but then you get acustomed to it and start to develope a taste and youre able to tell the diffrence between whiskey and vodka. Same with this music, you cant start off with something heavy like this and immediately like it without being exposed to heavy music before. Youre making quick progress though alex :). Keep up the great work dude
thank you for this comment my man! i feel like it is like watching a new show. the first few episdoes, you are unsure and once youre a season or 2 deep, youre hooked
Valz Ron thats a really good way to put it. but all good music is likw that...cant understand it at first and then slowly becomes the best thing youve ever heard.
This is was literally the first gojira I heard and I instantly fell in love with it, I wouldn't compare it to alcohol because I don't drink, gojira is like the finest dark chocolate you can find, but not the most bitter, it's strong taste is being balanced by the sweet and zesty fruits(the melodic parts) to the perfect amount, and it is my favorite band :)
Flying Whales is easily my favorite Gojira song... and From Mars to Sirius is arguably the best Gojira album... basically what I’m tryna say is, you made a damn good choice bro 🤘🤘
Andrew Teller uhhhh.... I don't know man. like the link, every album of theirs is awesome, but don't really see how it compares to FMTS. And just cause a song is popular doesn't make it bad or overrated. A song can be super popular and also be amazing, take bohemian rhapsody for instance. Idk, that's my opinion. And I'm sure your preference for the link isn't just based on the popularity of the album, but I don't think it should be a contributing factor.
Hey bud, i just discovered your channel a couple days ago, and let me tell you, u have all my respect. really! I appreciate the acceptance u have for metal music and Art in general, and the way u deal with it. People with different music tastes should be like you :) So, wanna hear some artistic shit? Try this one out "Devin Townsend Project - Deadhead (live at the royal albert hall)." Believe me, you won't regret this I'm really sure
It's all about getting used to it (the vocals and heaviness). When I started I couldn't even listen to thrash metal and would just listen NU (Slipknot; SOAD;...) Now I listed to technical death metal and slamming brutal death metal...
Seirios yep! I use the spicy food analogy. Those not accustomed to chilli usually wouldn’t down a bowl of vindaloo curry but after eating butter chicken and enjoying it you might naturally progress to the harder stuff ;)
Not necessarily about getting used to it. I've been listening to metal for 25 years and never really appreciated screaming and growling but more like tolerated it. These days it sounds just juvenile to me and something a 18 year old me would listen to.
'The heaviest matter of the universe' by Gojira is my favorite song by them. Also, a lot of people are suggesting 'love' by Strapping Young Lad, and I think that or 'shitstorm' are a good choice by them.
Gojira recommendations- Backbone Heaviest matter of the universe Toxic garbage island Remembrance Of blood and salt Silvera L'enfant sauvage Gift of guilt Born in winter Art of dying Stranded
Here are a few other Gojira recommendations (in no particular order): Born in Winter Oroborus (specifically the version from the Brixton Academy show - make sure you find the intro to get the full effect!) The Art of Dying (preferably Live from Vieilles Charrues for the opening growl, but Joe skips the typical opening vocals there.) Remembrance World to Come Where Dragons Dwell A Sight to Behold Love L'Enfant Sauvage From Mars To Sirius Liquid Fire Deliverance When you can, try to find a live version of any or all of these. They're almost always superior to the album versions.
If you want to listen so a gojira song, that is not that heavy as this one, but still heavy, melodic and awesome over all, than I suggest you listen / react to the song Silvera by them :D
I'm surprised nobody's mentioned the video where someone synced the Fantasia 2000 flying whales segment to this song. It is such a great way to experience this song
I’d have to recommend Rammstein. They’re a very unique German speaking metal band. Their live performances are incredible. Great vid Alex! (Oh yeah System of a Down has beautiful melodies mixed with more hard hitting vocals, try them if you like a mix of both)
Some Gojira must-listens are "In The Wilderness" and "Explosia". Two of the heaviest songs ever. In The Wilderness has arguably one of the best outros of any song I've heard, with Explosia coming in a close second.
You should go into a lot of these expecting high intensity. Gojira is very intense in many of their songs. People suggesting Meshuggah on here, they're very intense. Lamb of God is intense. This is what metal is. You'll begin to really appreciate the song dynamics, tempo changes, and overall complexity as time goes on though, trust me on that. Meshuggah's Future Breed Machine was one of my first experiences in to this type of thing and I hated it at first. Now it's one of my favorite tracks ever. Good luck to you on your metal journey.
Agalloch - In the Shadow of Our Pale Companion. It’s pretty long, has some harsh vocals, but is all in all one of the most beautiful pieces of music I’ve ever heard and it makes me wonder why more people aren’t checking this stuff out more often. Anyway, just wanted to say cool video! It’s nice to see you challenging your own musical taste. Will be checking in for more of these videos 😊
I don't know who you folks saying to ease him into metal are, but hush. It's music, not a butt plug. No one warned me about Pantera, I was just into it at 6, and had nothing before but classic rock.
I agree with you on a high level. That said, it's pretty hard to jump into old Gorgoroth or something like that when you haven't spent time with the more accessible stuff.
Think it depends on the person. When I first started listening to Metallica, Pantera, Megadeath, etc I wasn't a fan of the metal bands with all screaming vocals but with time it grew on me and now a lot of my favorite stuff has no clean vocals at all.
Yeeesss! Dude, your reaction was awesome and it also introduced me to them as well. I've been gradually getting into metal for years, ever since I was introduced to Opeth~
This is nothing compared to the entire album From mars to sirius straight through start to finish cranked to the max....👍👍👍 start to finish in order all the way through.... The album is a trip in itself... 2 minutes means nothing when you take time for the entire symphony
Gojira have so many fucking bangers that it's hard to just pick one, but Flying Whales is the song that got me into them, so it was a great first choice. Other great songs include: - OROBOROUS - TOXIC GARBAGE ISLAND - VACUITY - THE ART OF DYING - WOLF DOWN THE EARTH - Backbone - Silvera - Stranded - L'enfant Sauvage - Global Warming - Ocean Planet - Where Dragons Dwell The entire "The Way of All Flesh" album (song titles in all caps) is a straight up masterpiece.

Lyrics???? It's here ^^
Water of chaos
Have invaded all space
The flood on earth again
I have to find the whales
That once did guides us
To dry lands of life
I won't despair
I'll break this dark all around
Under the heavy sea
I'll search the flight of whales
Beneath the seas I searched
And had a different view
Of us on earth
The sinking ship of men
But it's beyond the stars
I found the place
Where they were
And they finally came to light
Over the winds
They dwell in light
Like the arrow in the sky
I found myself on higher grounds
From up here
For I see them in flight
Now I can see the whales
Looming out of the dark
Like arrows in the sky
I can't believe my eyes
But it's true
Huge tunnel ends in light
Like banks of clouds they gather
See massive shape of flesh
Swimming giants in the clear
The mightiest comes to me
I'm on the wing, wide open
They teach me how to fly
Slowly moving in the air
So much told with no words at all
Powerful presence for only speech
Breath
Over the winds
They dwell in light
Fly

BEAT YOUR FEAT ON THE GROUND AND *fucking city turns to rubble*
I cried in a crowd of sweaty people hearing these lads live in Oslo. They are SOMEHOW even better live...
I know I asked for Amon Amarth before, but this reminded me that Bathory is another great band. Miss you Quorthon.
Gojira - Stranded!!
Pantera - Cemetery Gates
Avenged Sevenfold - Beast and the Harlot
Doug Ray I fucking love beast and the harlot
Unholy Confessions
Strapping Young Lad - Love?
Josh Grooves dude you'll kill the poor guy.. Slow and steady
Surprised hes gotten to gojira.
The metal is strong with this one
Andrew Trader this gojira song is more extreme than love. Love is actually quite tame for SYL and it has a great groove plus clean and screaming vocals. I think he'll dig it!
How about detox instead
Oh My Fucking God instead
Maybe some of Devin Townsend’s other stuff would be better since he’s just getting into metal
Gojira is not simply music gojira is a piece of art at its finest definition
This was my first exposure song to Gojira as well. It's awesome. So glad you dig it!
You'd really like Opeth
benme upinside I dont think he has the musical aptitude to like something so good to be honest.
philip ketchum i think you're not giving him enough chances
Opeth is for everyone, even my gf(doesn't likes metal at all) likes some Opeth songs
Meshuggah!
Bleed!!
Combustion, Demiurge, Pravus... or go older Meshuggah and grab something off Chaosphere or Nothing or I
Meshuggah - war-

HEAVIEST MATTER OF THE UNIVERSE by Gojira
Your transitions and cut ins (ex. "Twelve Seconds Later") KILLLLLL ME. It's 100% how my inner monologue works as well and it breathes life into me! ------ Kills me! Then gives me life back! Please don't ever change the format of your vids!!!
You NEED to listen to L'Enfant Sauvage by Gojira
This is a banger
The whole album
Hell yeah song..
Makes me wanna do the same..I'm a hip hop/metal head all day and I'd love to see these two different cultures come together more often
well said
React to A Perfect Circle - The Package
The lead singer is Maynard James Keenan who is also the lead singer of Tool.
That whole record is incredible. Fyi.
Kris Mackey That's true!
The intro of that song is so cool and depressing
Then straight to Count Bodies like Sheep to the Rythm of the War Drums!
DUDE IM TELLING U ....U WILL BE BLOWN AWAY IF YOU LISTEN TO SOME OPETH PLSsssss
GB Productions fuck yeah!
Yes yes this a million times
Something like Bleak, Harvest or The Leper Affinity
100% true
BLACK ROSE IMMORTAL!
GOJIRA baby!!!!
Go on the journey! Silvera, Gift of Guilt, Stranded, Explosia
Definitely recommend Silvera. The groove in that riff should appeal to a hip hop fan. I love it when the heavier metal bands do something that you can almost dance to or bob your head to but it's still heavy and aggressive.
If you want a long sweet instrumental, you should check “Orion” by Metallica.
This.
John McCullough or pulling teeth (anasthesia)
Both are friggin amazing!
Toxic Garbage Island next? :^)
I like that he called Gojira a Heavy Metal band 🤣🤣🤣. I like your reaction! :)
Valz Ron for me this music brings me to trance. I have seen them for 4 times live now and it getting better and better.
Valz Ron
Metal is very much an acquired taste just like whiskey. You start out gagging then before you know it sipping smooth scotch like water.
Flying Whales is easily my favorite Gojira song... and From Mars to Sirius is arguably the best Gojira album... basically what I’m tryna say is, you made a damn good choice bro 🤘🤘
thank you! it wasn't my choice it was a request! these Hefnerds are smart!
It's a wee bit overrated, seems to be the only album/song people know that don't actually listen to gojira. I prefer the link!
Andrew Teller The Link... Uhhh, it has some great stuff but it's not as good as FMTS or TWoAF
Andrew Teller Inward Movement and Wisdom Comes are VERY kick-ass tho
Andrew Teller uhhhh.... I don't know man. like the link, every album of theirs is awesome, but don't really see how it compares to FMTS. And just cause a song is popular doesn't make it bad or overrated. A song can be super popular and also be amazing, take bohemian rhapsody for instance. Idk, that's my opinion. And I'm sure your preference for the link isn't just based on the popularity of the album, but I don't think it should be a contributing factor.
HELL YEAH!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR CHECKING OUT GOJIRA ALEX!!!! YOUR THE BEST!!!!
no, you are!
It's my First time hearing this from your video and it's immediately going right into my Spotify vault ❤️
Hey bud, i just discovered your channel a couple days ago, and let me tell you, u have all my respect. really! I appreciate the acceptance u have for metal music and Art in general, and the way u deal with it. People with different music tastes should be like you :)
So, wanna hear some artistic shit? Try this one out "Devin Townsend Project - Deadhead (live at the royal albert hall)." Believe me, you won't regret this I'm really sure
Adam Levi hevy devy !!!
Opeth Next.
Blackwater Park
Nonono safe these two for later start with Harlequin Forest and check out the life version of this song
Way Drive
Ghost of perdition maybe?
Best would be Windowpane live
It's all about getting used to it (the vocals and heaviness). When I started I couldn't even listen to thrash metal and would just listen NU (Slipknot; SOAD;...) Now I listed to technical death metal and slamming brutal death metal...
Seirios yep! I use the spicy food analogy. Those not accustomed to chilli usually wouldn’t down a bowl of vindaloo curry but after eating butter chicken and enjoying it you might naturally progress to the harder stuff ;)
Melody Notmylastname
funny cause i have no problem with the heaviest growls or pig squeals or anything but i just can't stand spicy food
Not necessarily about getting used to it. I've been listening to metal for 25 years and never really appreciated screaming and growling but more like tolerated it. These days it sounds just juvenile to me and something a 18 year old me would listen to.
That's how i started. I started with slipknot, pillar, etc. Now I listen to Slaughter to prevail, Infant Annihilator, Thy are is murder.
Early slipknot stuff is heavier than any thrash
Tool-Reflection please, you'll hear 3 minutes of just instruments
Listening to Reflection alone is useless..you have to listen to Disposition,Reflection and Triad in row.
jokes on you im using dark theme
dream theater XDDD
I tried to rub of my screen when I saw your photo lol
I agree 100%
'The heaviest matter of the universe' by Gojira is my favorite song by them. Also, a lot of people are suggesting 'love' by Strapping Young Lad, and I think that or 'shitstorm' are a good choice by them.
Gojira recommendations-
Backbone
Heaviest matter of the universe
Toxic garbage island
Remembrance
Of blood and salt
Silvera
L'enfant sauvage
Gift of guilt
Born in winter
Art of dying
Stranded
Gojira - The heaviest matter of the universe live at brixton academy!
Deftones - Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away)
dame fortuna or xerces, both amazing songs
Dude, you get him into deftones and it's all over.
React to The Flesh And The Power It Holds by Death
YUSS!! THIS!
David Barja Sternik,
Nice one.
Here are a few other Gojira recommendations (in no particular order):
Born in Winter
Oroborus (specifically the version from the Brixton Academy show - make sure you find the intro to get the full effect!)
The Art of Dying (preferably Live from Vieilles Charrues for the opening growl, but Joe skips the typical opening vocals there.)
Remembrance
World to Come
Where Dragons Dwell
A Sight to Behold
Love
L'Enfant Sauvage
From Mars
To Sirius
Liquid Fire
Deliverance
When you can, try to find a live version of any or all of these. They're almost always superior to the album versions.
This is technically part 2 of a longer song, the song before it on the album "The Heaviest Matter Of The Universe" was meant to lead into it
If you want to listen so a gojira song, that is not that heavy as this one, but still heavy, melodic and awesome over all, than I suggest you listen / react to the song Silvera by them :D
Mutated Nut stranded
I'm surprised nobody's mentioned the video where someone synced the Fantasia 2000 flying whales segment to this song. It is such a great way to experience this song
I’d have to recommend Rammstein. They’re a very unique German speaking metal band. Their live performances are incredible. Great vid Alex! (Oh yeah System of a Down has beautiful melodies mixed with more hard hitting vocals, try them if you like a mix of both)
Some Gojira must-listens are "In The Wilderness" and "Explosia". Two of the heaviest songs ever. In The Wilderness has arguably one of the best outros of any song I've heard, with Explosia coming in a close second.
the breakdowns in this song are 100% in my top 10 breakdowns
These guys are great!!
Josh Sanabria these guys are what metal needed. They’re amazing live and friendly
Highly recommend seeing these guys live! I saw them a few years ago alongside Metallica in Pasadena, the sound was incredible
What! First Pisces and now Flying Whales!? I gotta sub now lol
welcome to the family andrew!
Man I love how you're so open to different styles of music, more people should be as open minded when it comes to music :)
Im late but glad people are putting you on stuff I would of requested myself! Gojira is insane love em!
Gojira is philosophy, poetry, music and metaphisics all in one. No band like Gojira.
*Wintersun - Sons Of WInter And Stars* live @ Sonic Pump Studios
This a million times
FUCK yes!
Great idea, alot of Instrumental breaks there 😁 and they're from Finland
needs to happen...
I mean, I wouldn’t recommend it... but sure, go for it.
"but not many people let the instruments do the talking" i agree with you bro
I'm stealing " it's music, not a buttplug". Thanks.
Anshumaan Purohit have at it
He pointed it out himself, if this had been the first metal song he'd heard he wouldn't have liked it.
Yeeesss! Dude, your reaction was awesome and it also introduced me to them as well. I've been gradually getting into metal for years, ever since I was introduced to Opeth~
Damn! You started with the heavy stuff! It took Iron Maiden and the Sex Pistols for me!
Glad you liked Gojira :) Band from my country !
As a German Kreator all the way!
Other great songs include:
- OROBOROUS
- TOXIC GARBAGE ISLAND
- VACUITY
- THE ART OF DYING
- WOLF DOWN THE EARTH
- Backbone
- Silvera
- Stranded
- L'enfant Sauvage
- Global Warming
- Ocean Planet
- Where Dragons Dwell
The entire "The Way of All Flesh" album (song titles in all caps) is a straight up masterpiece.
React to Gojira's Silvera or Stranded!
