    Been using a lot of your tips and advice througout the "small container" and "growing san pedro from seed" series. It has been super helpful since finding local help who dosent just assume im going to eat my cactus has been difficult. So far I have about 40% germination on my first run of 47 seeds and your videos have been an invaluble reference during the last 7 days. I hope to purchase some seed from you one of these days, you always have some new interesting genetics your collection.

    Thanks for the info again! Trying this out with random saint pedro seeds to experiment with and might go for some of you seeds when i find a reliable rhythm 😊
    For the glad wrap i found i cut a hole in the lid, and the same with a second lid and put some gladwrap between the lids for a clear top and sit it ontop container without clicking closed, easy to remove without disturbing, saves plastic and looks nice. Will see how it goes :)

      Maybe i will wrap it all the way around the top lid, instead of one layer between the lids, bit more insulation :)

    The main problem I've run into with growing seedling packed tightly together is when they're big enough to be repotted individually or shipped their roots are all bound together and they end up scratching each other to pieces when I separate them.

    can you make a video about treating fungal issues in cactus like systemic rust etc? talk about pho, copper fungicide, sulphur, plaster of paris and fossill shell flour, what they do and when to use them. i had to use copper this time. how many times should i use it? should i use it on all types of cactus even if they have no visible issues?

    In my short experience I’ve found using two cheap 6000k shop lights in close proximity has been adequate for starting seedlings. I had a few containers of seedlings grow thin at first. But with subsequent plantings I’ve brought the containers closer to the led lights. I find they don’t give off a lot of heat, and it is not as strong as real grow lights, so I’m never really worried about stressing the seedlings.
    As a hobbyist who grows mostly outdoors now, I haven’t put a lot of money into my set up. If someone is just getting started, those cheap lights can work for starting and sustaining some growth on young seedlings. Obviously you would do better with a t5 or a real grow light, but it is cheap and useable.

    Hi, my soil/perlite mixture has become very hard and compact after a couple of months. Water still drains through after I water them, but I wonder if its too compact and hard for the root development as I am not sure there is much aeration. Is there a good way to loosen the soil mix, or should I try to repot with fresh mix?

      I agree, but what Jerry has that others don't is effectively documented proof of parents and the seedlings' upbringing. If you're concerned about getting what you paid for and labels being right, Jerry has the value in credibility. I had a shipment not make it to America, and he sent another, free of charge. I bought another, and it made it in less than a week.

    wouldnt side lighting be more appropriate for columnar cacti? I assume that most of the photsynthetic area is on the sides rather than the growing tip.

    Since 3 weeks I am growing San Pedro cactus, I sowed the seeds in a container with 2/3 cm of soil (50% universal soil and 50% cactus' premixed soil), I put a dish under the container and i add water 2 times per day. At the moment they look almost perfect but do you think that the low height of the soil will be a problem in the future? If you have any advice I would be grateful, thank you! 😜

    • @mattiasabadin1832
      @mattiasabadin1832 11 місяців тому

      P.S. I'm adding water only in the dish but I think that it's good because the soil is always wet, the container is always open (since few days)
