    I received my Luba AWD 5000 yesterday(!). It took about 20-mins to setup, and came with enough charge to do a quick map-n-mow. I also recently purchased the Ecoflow BLADE and have been using it for around two weeks. Here's my take/comparison.
    - Upon unboxing, my first impression is, the Luba is very sturdy. It seems to weigh about as much as the BLADE, but its design seems very compact and less complicated. The BLADE seems a bit more complex, with plenty of visible moving parts.
    - The Luba setup was easy and the RTK connection was virtually instantaneous. I had to mess with location with the BLADE's antenna before being connected, and still have intermittent lapses in connection
    - Both the mowers' apps are friendly and intuitive. However, when mapping, Luba requires a "channel" be setup prior to starting a mow. The channel is essentially a virtual tether between either the charge station or another map. This is not particularly clear when setting up and I spent about 15 minutes figuring it out. The BLADE does not require this
    - After mapping, I was surprised and pleased that the first thing the Luba did was mow three perimeter laps. Very nice. BLADE offers an opportunity mow the perimeter after the main mow, but I'm not able to get this to work in the app
    - I deliberately included a slope of about 30-degrees in my initial map. Luba didn't even break a sweat. It rolled sideways on the perimeter mow, and went up and down on the regular mow. BLADE has issues with a steep slope. I get a warning that it's tilted.
    - The four Luba tires are legit, and have no issue getting around my rural, squirrel/rabbit hole-pocked lawn. The BLADE's omnidirectional front wheels, with their 45-degree angle, easily get caught up in even smaller holes. This has been a frustration, as I now expect to show up in the morning to find the BLADE stopped at a hole and battery discharged, mow incomplete.
    - I have some granite boulders that poke up out of the lawn. In my original map, I forgot to create a restriction around them, but decided to just watch what the Luba would do, expecting the mower to see them as an obstruction. Nope. The Luba didn't even flinch! Actually crawled right over the boulder (and did not scrape the blades). The BLADE circumvents this same rock.
    - One slightly annoying thing both mowers do is mistake a tall weed or even a tall, single blade of wild grass as an obstruction. They both will stop at a tuft of grass that's a different height than other grass and move around it like its a toy or pet. My solution is to clear these occasional tufts with my regular mower before the initial mow. After the first mow, this shouldn't be an issue, as the mowers will keep these parts tame.
    - The Luba returns to the charger and juices up and returns to where it left like a champ. The BLADE does the same. However, because of my type of rural land, both mowers get a bit dusty. This is a non-issue for the Luba. But the BLADE gives me an error after every mow, saying the charger contact poles need to be cleaned before charging can commence, which kinda defeats the automation concept. I want the mower to mow without having to physically touch it after each cycle. The LUBA had no issue with this, at all. If you have a nice, lush, patch of suburban lawn, you would not likely have dust or this issue.
    - I am able to connect and control the Luba from anywhere, anytime, from the app. I can check progress from anywhere. The BLADE is not as accessible. This may be due to the RTK antenna placement. I get a "Disconnected" notice about 50% of the time.
    I am creating more maps for the Luba today. I've got 4-acres to cover and I will report back results. The nutshell: For my purpose and use, I am all-in on the Luba. I'm going to repurpose the BLADE for a smaller, less complicated area on the property. Depending on how Luba handles the entire 4-acres (or not), I may buy another Luba.

      Thanks for sharing! Regarding Luba recognizing weeds as obstacles… sounds like you have Level 2 sensing turned on? If on level 1, I did not see that being an issue.

    Hi Vince! Great demo/review of the Luba 5000! I have 2 automakers from HV, a 315x and a 430. The 315 I have had for 7+ years and It is awesome. The 430 I purchased from and individual that used it about 6 months then moved and did not need. I recently relocated and have about .75 acres and brought both Automowers with me. The 315 manages my back yard and the 430 my front yard because I have ditches and needed better climbing capability. I have had nothing but guide wire issues with the 430 in my front yard. So, I am pacing the floor awaiting the arrival of my Luba 5000! I am sure it will be the awesome machine that it is advertised for. I looked at the Heisenberg mower and it still has a way to go and I almost bought the Segway. But then I found the MM Luba 5000 and was very impressed. The HV's that I have have been challenging to get update and repair for them from any of My local and semi local dealers. They really do not support the Automower side of HV. They say that they are dealers but this is their forgotten child of the product line. So, I am not worried about the MM 5000 because I have had great discussion with wonderful people at Autmow.com about the 5000 AWD unit. They have answered a ton of questions that I had and since they carry and evaluate many Automowers, they believe that the Mammotion 5000 AWD is a Game Changer. I look forward to seeing more from The Lawn Engineer as I patiently wait for my Luba.

    I bought one and it was delivered yesterday. I already boxed it up and returned it. The assembly instructions were horrible, but I got through it. Then I had to connect the mower to the app. It connected to Bluetooth perfect but wouldn't connect to wifi. I looked online and saw a bunch of people saying the same thing. I ended up bringing it inside. I tried connecting from my phone, from my ipad, through the wifi, through hotspot. I kept resetting the mower and finally it worked after 2 hours. I bring it outside and it wont connect to the RTK. The light on the RTK was solid green and I put the mower right next to it, still nothing. I tried unplugging everything, restarting the mower. Uninstall and reinstall the app.....nothing. Then after about an hour, the entire RTK stopped working. No lights at all. Even when I tried other outlets. The last straw was trying tech support......horrible idea. You can't get it in English and I waiting on the phone for 45 minutes and nobody ever answered. Here's the kicker. When I first took it out of the box I noticed the front end sitting low. I just assumed it would raise up once everything was connected. The front bracket hoding one of the tires was completely cracked. That nightmare of a product was boxed up and sent right back. I'm not paying $3k for something that is this bad right out the box.

      No. He's right to a point. The Luba is a BEAST, BUT the manual sucks and statedidectech support is nonexistent. I've been trying to get the RTK clamp replaced for weeks. No joy! It keeps telling me that my Bluetooth connection is bad, but shouldn't it default to WiFi? I have no alarms BUT the red sidelights are blinking while it's mowing 20 feet ftom.the RTK. There's more but at least I have it working. The one time. I called Amazon for tech support I found that they had no idea what I was talking about. I ended up, after a wait, connected to a very helpful woman in South Africa! Nobody stateside has parts for the thing either. Is it a good mower? Yes. Beats my Landroids all to hell for efficiency and not getting stuck, but because of the lack of support, I really can't recommend it at this point unless you have nerves of steel, the intuitive abilities of Sherlock Holmes, and the patience of a Saint.

      SuperTA, when did you start mowing your ProVista KBG at 1/2"? Aren't you having issues with the seed heads that come out in mid to end of May? I thought the best way to resolve is to cut it at 3" or taller in the Spring, wait for the seed heads to emerge and then do a low mow/scalp to get rid of them all?

  • @realtoast7036

    I recently bought the Ecoflow Blade. Same concept, about the same price as the Luba. What I see different here is the Luba does that nice perimeter mow. And, the ability to change its stripe direction is nice. The Ecoflow has only one constant direction and does not do the perimeter mow. I've got 4 acres to mow and I may pick this one up as a redundant mower. One nice upgrade for both these would be the mapping process. It took me the better part of a day to walk the mower very, very slowly around 6 different sub-areas (that thread together as one when done) and no-go (restricted) areas. It would be nice if we were able to use the app to the phone to point at the ground and walk the area without the mower to create the mow maps and then upload these to the devices memory.

After mapping the large area the app automatically stitched together the several large maps. I then had issues with the mower starting up. I'm not sure if this was caused by something I did or didn't do in the mapping process. However, Ecoflow customer service has been exceptional and I still have total confidence in the company and mower. I may be receiving both Luba and new Blade around the first week in June. Love the review. I'm tracking a few brands/models of these units. Over the past 10 years, I've gone through 5-6 lawn services/individuals only because they go out of business or just disappear on me. I want something I can depend on, have it mow when I want it to mow and not wait on a business/person who is behind schedule. I live in the Ohio area (zone 5-6) and I like my lawn mowed into November until the grass stops growing. I rarely can find someone to do that for me. MY FEAR: a runaway mower! I've heard horror stories from people who invested in one brand or their other and had their mower take off like a pet pooch mowing through neighbors lawns, gardens and flower beds. I have a volatile neighbor and couldn't afford the wrath that would stem from that kind of action.

    Another question for you. The Luba specs say, 1.25 acres. I am guessing that means 1.25 acres/charge. Does the mower have memory to return to where it left off after a recharge? Meaning, is this product useful for lots bigger than 1.25 acres?

    • @TheLawngineer
      @TheLawngineer  Рік тому +2

      No, it’s not 1.25 acres per charge. It’ll run for about 3 hours max on the most efficient settings. When you change mowing height, speed, mowing width, etc… it has an impact on battery life. Also the load on the wheels depending on the terrain also have an affect. I believe the 1.25 acre limitation is the maximum size it can mow in a day. It will remember where it left off, charge, and come back on its own.

    I've owned a husqvarna mower for 4 years and installed 1700 feet of boundary wire. The unit has been great for the most part but I can say based on my experience, I will only replace it with a unit that can navigate WITHOUT a boundary wire.
    The initial wire they sold doesn't work well in US soil and degrades quickly. In some areas of my yard, the wire must sit on the surface of the ground with pegs. If the soil shifts for any reason, it can push up the peg and the wire with it. That means if you set your mower to cut past the wire or up to it, it'll chop the wire and the mower will stall until it's fixed. Ive had the wire break once or twice for other reasons and locating the disconnect takes time and a tracing tool to find the cut.
    I also had to install the boundary wire around the base of a tree. This tree was struck by lightning which blew the boundary wire out of the ground, blew up the charging station, and the power supply. Somehow, the mower itself was unscathed. All 1700 feet of boundary wire now needs to be replaced as well as the charging station and finding parts has been painful and VERY expensive.
    My only concern with this mower, which I'd love to buy right now cause I'm literally reinstalling the new wire and charging station today, is it's so new. First iterations can be problematic but it looks very promising.

    Great review, answered a ton of my questions. I do have a couple of questions though. What's to stop someone pulling up, picking it up, throwing it in the trunk and hauling butt? Also, if facing the front of your house, did you have to mow any on the right side of your driveway? How did that work out with the placement of your sat tower? And after reading some other comments doesn't sound like their support exists?

      If someone steals it, the unit becomes a very expensive brick. Only works with one account.
      You can setup virtual bridges to cross areas like driveways and sidewalks to mow other zones. Not an issue with the RTK so long as both units are open to the sky and have good satellite connectivity.
      Regarding support, I haven’t had issues yet that warranted contacting the company. Seems like they are constantly rolling out updates. Would be a shame if there isn’t adequate support… especially for the cost of the unit.

    • @TheLawngineer
      @TheLawngineer  Рік тому +1

      It does not require direct line of sight. So long as both Luba and the RTK are completely open to the sky, you’re good. For me, the only spot that has an issue is directly behind my house (within 5 feet or so from the building). It will slow down and sometimes pause until it gets a good signal. When Luba does come into direct line of sight with the RTK, that is another way for it to know it’s positioning… so for example, if the RTK is wide open to the sky and Luba is working under a bunch of trees (but in direct line of sight of the RTK), it shouldn’t lose a signal. At least that’s how I understand it to work.

    • @TheLawngineer
      @TheLawngineer  Рік тому +1

      You can setup upto 10 zones with this unit. And you can schedule each zone for different days. I believe the 1.25 acre limit is based on the units capability to mow that much area in a single day while also making trips back to the charge port to recharge and resume mowing. Considering speed, mowing width, and how fine you are mowing determines the time it will take to mow the lawn.

When going under the tree, it may stop and go intermittently as it acquires different signals from the satellites if it’s not in direct line of sight of the RTK.

      On the app, there is a signal indicator with a corresponding number. I think anything below 21 is considered bad. But I don’t know if the number 21 means 21 satellites. Everything is controlled through the app. I felt like setup was a bit iterative. You kind of have to keep moving the RTK around until you have a good signal. You really need to have the RTK setup completely open to the sky. The tough thing is that the RTK requires power, so that limits you to where you can put it unless you run extension cords. It does come with a rather long cord, but may not be enough in some situations.

      @@TheLawngineer yeah lack of cellular and not being able to see the mowers status at all times and be alerted of an issue turned me off from Luba. Add in cellular and I’d consider a Luba as I like it’s cutting system. I’ve heard it mulches leaves better. However husqvarna is coming out with a better mulching blade soon.

      While these mowers are getting better, none is perfect for me.
      1. I don't know why they don't cut higher. I have turf type tall fescue and 70mm (2.75") is not tall enough. TTTF performs best at 4". The only one that does that is the Worx Landroid L. I have that one and I don't like it because it's way too finicky. It gets stuck all the time. I won't get into it.
      2. I LOVE the AWD of the Luba. All robot mowers should be AWD.
      3. I LOVE the 37° slope the Luba can handle and it's 4 avoidance sensors
      4. Too bad it doesn't have GPS or any tracking mechanism if someone steals it.
      5. I love the fact that it's heavy and low to the ground, which probably helps with traction.
      If it could cut at 4", I'd buy one right now. But in the middle of July, if I cut my TTTF at 2.75", it'd be brown pretty quickly.

      @@dontbanmebrodontbanme5403 try the husqvarna auto mower 450x epos it’s incredible and cuts the grass taller. It has cellular and gps so you can always see what the mower is doing no matter where u are.

      @@TiltedTripodMedia Looks like the 450x cutting height maxes out at 2.4 inches. The 450xh will get up to 3.6 inches. Of course both of those are prohibitively expensive for many people coming in at $5,900!

    If it's okay getting wet what's the benefit of the garage? How will it know if it's still raining when under covered?

    • @TheLawngineer
      @TheLawngineer  Рік тому +1

      I can tell you the garage does a good job protecting Luba from bird 💩. When it stops raining, you need to tell Luba to continue mowing.

      I’d like to test out EcoFlow to find out for sure… but all I know is that you have more range on the height of cut with the EcoFlow and it has a bagger attachment.
