Have a Luba since last July. It’s freaking amazing. Don’t have to make plans with the fam around mowing
I own this mower. I would like to mention some of the issues I have had.
When you set up a perimeter, it needs to be about 1' from structures. It needs that much space to make turns. Otherwise, it will back into things. That means there is a wider area of trim work to do. At my lawn's current growth rate, I have to run the weed eater every 3-4 days.
It isn't great in sandy soils. The way it turns the rear tires are very tough on the grass. When the soil is sandy it tends to dig in. The tires are large and grippy and the grass pays the price. I have a few places in the lawn where the mower has dug the grass out making turns.
There is difficulty in setting the unit up. I set mine up under the eaves of the house. In that location, it doesn't get a strong GPS signal. There are many times when it can't get a fix and it refuses to automatically leave the dock. I have to manually drive it out into the lawn so the mower and the RTK can see enough satellites. Once in the yard, it takes off and goes to work. It seems like it would be able to just pull away from the base and start working, but it won't do it unless it has a strong signal. That means you have to set it up somewhere out away from structures. Being away from structures means you are probably away from your power source.
Before the mower, I was cutting the grass every three days with a rotary and reel mower. In the summer it was just too hot to be out there. I would mow and then be worn out the rest of the day. It has given me a lot of my time back and my lawn still looks great. I don't have reel mower lines in the grass, but it is worth it.
Updates are coming out every few weeks. It keeps getting better and maybe my problems will be corrected with a firmware update. However, right now, these are the issues.
Thanks for that. 4wd 10000 high cut model is back ordered but it’s what I want.
Great feedback. Thank you.
I also own this mower and have no trouble getting it within 2 inches of any obstacles or structures.

The updates have allowed the camera system to better protect against running into walls. You can choose your level of contact from none to some. It has improved in that regard.
I'm a huge fan of my Luba 2. I let it mow every other day and I edge once a week. Lawn looks better than ever and is a huge time saver. Like any new tech, there are a few software quirks, but overall, it's a fantastic device.
I enjoy cutting my grass but this mower gives me back free time to spend with my family. Thanks for the great review Ryan. Mamotion loves you. I have learned a lot about lawn care from you...God bless!
Last spring, I spent 6 weeks cycling through Western Europe, and robotic mowers were everywhere.
Who knows, in a few years, you may be sitting on the front porch watching an army of these things roaming around your property.
had mine since 10 years and could not be happier, greetings from Poland
Europe has huge incentives due to super high labor costs and having to pay employees for a year after termination.
I think so too. It’s definitely the way of the future. Just look at robotic vacuums in your house.
I love taking care of my lawn but i also have 3 kids and a back issue, time is very scarce these days. Strongly considering one to take care of cutting (especially our slope) so i can get some time back and be able to focus on weeds, nutrients, family, etc.
My friend has that same Luba robot mower. He offered to demo it on my yard. I wasn't expecting it to do very well. To my surprise it did amazingly well. It's not fast but it doesn't need to be. It works slowly and efficiently. It even did well on really tall grass where it moved even slower and didn't bog down. It did two perfect stripe patterns perpendicular to each other across the yard. In the end the yard looked like a well manicured MLB field. I can see how this could be really ideal for more frequent mowing to always have a perfect lawn. I really like this. My only concerns are theft and bagging. With the mower being white it may stand out to thieves. A green camo pattern might be just the ticket and the slow moving mower may go largely unnoticed by people passing by my home. Of course, I could also mow in the middle of the night when nobody is passing by. I like to collect leaves while mowing and my current bagging mower takes care of that. If the robot mower had a bagging function it could be even better. I suspect that this robot mower technology will get better and better and maybe less expensive as time goes on. I may soon purchase one of these systems to significantly reduce the time and effort that I have to commit to handle my lawn care duties.
It does have theft protection where you can track location. I'll have to see if I can highlight more details of that in the future
I got a Luba last year and ive absolutely loved it. Mine is the original type, so it doesn't have the 3d camera and all, but I just setup the zones and it cuts my grass all year. Saves a ton of time and keeps my grass at a normal level all year
Played at a golf course in scottsdale and they had these on every hole. was great for the outer rough and stuff. constantly clean.
I've been thinking about the utility of getting a robotic mower, not that anything is wrong with my Ego mower, but getting that little bit of time back each week does add up over the season... Will be interested to see how this goes for you!
How cool! I have followed you since some years back after trying to get my lawn up and going after purchasing our first house - thanks! I feel there has been this "mutual agreement" that we do not talk about robotic mowers on the channel but I'm glad you're now reviewing one! I use one and can use more time (the time I got) on getting the lawn healthy, and the mower cuts regularly, giving the turn mulch, hindering moss and weeds - and I can think of no one better to review these critters than you, also creating business for you for those who want automatic mowing at home. Hope to see more reviews from you - from Gardena's mowers and up to Graze (startup, big automowers for parks, airports, golf courses)! Keep them coming and have a nice spring!
Functionality looks great. I’ll have to figure out how to work around my back yard fence when the (inevitable) time comes
I remember commenting on your video about a year ago asking if you would ever consider reviewing a mower robot, and finally here we are, thanks for this! I've been using an Ambrogio robot mower since 10 years, couldn't be happier.
Wow, that thing uses RTK! Man GPS price has come down a ton!
This might struggle under heavy tree canopy. But definitely cool tech.
The camera system takes over when it has signal problems.
@ryanknorrlawncare can you give it a trial in the shaded lot?
Just got our luba 2 high cut model yesterday (5/4)
Too funny! Mine will be here tomorrow. I also have the new Segway NaviMow i110n that was released a month ago. I'm sold on these! They cut nice lines and it's awesome being able to free up my time. Only thing I have to do is edge certain spots. 👍🏻
Why are you getting one in addition to the navimow? I'm trying to decide between the two.
@HotLawnSummer I think the main selling point of the Luba 2 for me is the 17" cut, compared to NaviMow's 7". The i110n does 0.25 acres, while the Luba I ordered does 0.75 acres. My grass property is 0.23 acres, which you would think the i110n could handle in a single charge but nope. My backyard is about 6,000 sq ft and the NaviMow has to recharge after about 70% completion. In my opinion it's due to the smaller diameter cut and it being 2wd instead of awd like the Luba. Other than that, I have nothing bad to say about the i110n. Segway made the best, "bang for your buck" auto mower IMO. RTK, AI Vision, mows at night w/led headlight, multiple mowing patterns, ride along edge cutting, no go zones, object detection, multiple zones etc. I'm keeping both cause I look at them as investments. The battery expectancy of these mowers is about 5yrs before they begin to degrade little by little after numerous charge cycles. I'm definitely investing in a solar option as well, due to all the trips back to the docking station these things have to do between mows. If you're on the fence, think of your property size and whether you have any extreme slopes on your property. NaviMow can handle minor slopes but at the cost of battery life. Luba's little bells and whistles it offers is what puts it above competitors but that's just my opinion. Who knows though, I may post back here tomorrow after setting up the Luba with different opinions lol
@@michaelmancusi3672 thanks for all the info! I have a similar sized yard and pretty much have the same thoughts. One thing is with the tech on these improving and not that mature yet with the wireless mowers I'm guessing in a couple years I will want to replace whatever I get now anyway so that's why I'm considering the cheaper navimow otherwise for sure would just get the luba.
Hey @luba - Multiple side by side pass same direction of cut (3 one way / 3 other way alternating) seems possible for bigger deck affect an option?
I have the Husqvarna 450HX, I set my grass height early spring press start and never have to cut my grass all summer.
Well done! There are “upteen” of these types of videos with various brands. This is the first one that shows this from the perspective of a lawn enthusiast and has actually piqued my curiosity.
I agree. Where have the big time lawn enthusiasts been the last year? Most videos I have seen are from crappie yards and don’t really make anyone want one and then all the lawn care UA-camrs complain about not having any time. Wake up guys! I have had an Automower for a year and there is no going back. I can still mow if I want to but I don’t have to. I have so much extra time to do other things in the lawn now and my lawn looks so much better.
Hey Ryan that thing is pretty cool. But I'm like you I like to do my lawn myself, it gives me exercise and I enjoy it. Keep up the good work
I think you could mix this will doing it your self. Use this bad boy for constant mowing to free up some time and spend more of your time making other things better. weed eating, edging, landscaping etc bababbaaby. Idk just blabbing
When I had a smaller lawn it was nice to do myself for exercise, but once our property got too big for a push mower, the exercise vs time aspect with a riding mower made the luba make more sense to me
Now it just needs a striping kit and a programmable double stripe mow design ;)
Wow Ryan, it actually does a pretty good job at leaving the stripes, just a little wavy but not to bad overall. This should be a nice time saver for you! I need to get me one of the sissy grass t-shirts!
It looked like it did OK> That will be a big help to you...
So glad you got one! I have a Luba and I absolutely love it. It's my 3rd robot mower and it's hands down the best one I've ever owned.
3rd robot in how long? Do they wear out fast?
I don't know why these are not more widespread through the USA. They cost 1/3 to 1/2 as much as a zero-turn mower, although 2x as much as a decent reel mower. You can mow frequently enough that you don't have a mess from taller grasses, even if your lawn isn't well kept (full of weeds), and can mow as low as 1 inch or up to 4 inches (1-2.7 inches or 2.2 to 4 inches - different models). If you're someone that mows low, this will help combat many weeds as well just by maintaining a lower cutting height. The grass clippings are so small they should decay quickly versus becoming lawn smothering debris.
What I do not see mentioned anywhere is how long the mower blades last before you need to replace or sharpen, or further broken down from tougher grasses like Zoysia, or medium or fine blade grasses. Do you need to mow slower for thicker/denser grasses like Zoysia?
Does grass get pasted under the mower? Can you spray the underside safely with water to clean? I don't have that grass clumping/sticking issue with my Zoysia lawn, but my cool season grass in the back clumps up a lot, even the manicured 600 sq. ft. test patch of Rye & Midnight Kentucky Bluegrass.
If there where 8 wheels, 2 at each end. That could move independently, that could help smooth out the wobbliness of the lines. Giving the inter and out wheels at each end the ability to make small moves to smooth out the lines.
About 20 years ago a company out of the UK had perfected RTK autonomous mowers. The McMurtry mower was operational at 3 meters if my memory serves me right. Cheers.
A lot of people are getting lazy and want Robo lawn care. I would love to see a comparison or reviews amongst the Robo mowers..... I hear there is even a reel mower version out there.
Can the luba 2 do different stripe designs? How would it work around a house/driveway?
I am a soon to be owner of this mower and I appreciate that I learned at least a little more about it that I knew. However, the challenges of the area mowed are not worthy of what it needs to be able to do. Any RTK mower should be able to mow a virtually flat lot with almost no obstacles.
Would be great to see a longer term review after you’ve been using it for a season. Thanks, Ryan.
I was wondering about grass clippings, arent they constantly in the grass, sticking to shoes and feet, because luba is supposed to mow more often than a tractor right? How often does your luba mow? We use lawn tractor like once in 2 weeks, so the sticky clippings are a problem, but only for a few days.
Oh yeah it’s gonna be a good day
Did better than I thought
That should be a nice timesaver for you
I know it isn't designed for it, but it Im curious to see how it performs on taller bluegrass or something thicker....
I actually think this unit works better for someone like you with such large test plots. It’ll save you time and you’ll have more time to spend with your own lawn and family.
What’s up Ryan always love your videos, quick question I’m trying to grow a few bare spots in my yard with some TTTF in my cool season yard, I’ve used peat moss but am not having luck. My question is that I have a bunch of extra Timothy hay from my Guinea pigs and was wondering if I can throw that down
I've seen those a couple years ago in my HOA. 2 neighbors have them and looks like they do a great job as long as its fairly short and not like 4" tall cut. I do my 4acres the old fashioned way. SuperZ ZeroTurn and mow ever 2 to 4 days when its peak growing season. Those robots are pretty pricey though. First time I saw one next door, I thought the guy bought an 1/4 scale RC Car lol.
Knowing how much they have into materials on these things and how much they cost, they must have a very serious ROI target! I wonder how the sales volumes compare to a 500 dollar DJI drone with better and more accurate technology... Also, while very intrigued by the convenience factor, I wonder if the quality of cut will eventually be degraded without the lift/suction you get with a traditional mower?
I’m digging the new machine! Your channel is always up to something new. Very enjoyable!
Definitely not ready to give up the chance to enjoy the greenery and the chance of working out twice a week to this robot yet.😂
I have a Luba 1 and love it. It doesn’t work well under trees, but other than that it is fantastic.
Love the channel! What height are you cutting the fescue at currently?
2.25"
Good luck with the mower. I look forward to future videos of this "Star Wars" droid-type lawn mower. Especially the cost of replacement parts for a bad motivator. =].
Questions:
* What MODEL Luba2 did you use ?
[ ] Capacity: 10000, 5000, or 3000
[ ] Cutting Range: Standard ( 1.0 to 2.7”) or High (2.2 to 4.0”)
* Cutting Height Selected for each of your 2 Zones ?
* Type of Grass for Each Zone?
Thank you for your time and kind consideration for answering . . .
Good review!
I’m anxious for future tests.
How fast and what percentage will this cut my .36 acre lawn?
This would be a great addition to your channel as it can do some of the tedious and repetitive tasks on a much larger property to allow you to focus on your YT content and business while not having also do all of the labor required of a larger property.
Very interested in the long term review updates. If you are satisfied with the overall results, I know I will love it! Thank you for putting this out there. I hope you do not take personally some of "feedback" I am sure you will see and hear. Life is all about change and adaptability. if I get one I will still cut the grass also, because I enjoy the feeling of accomplishment 😎
does it allow you to tell it to do different directions so it switches up its cutting path every other time? Like diagonal cuts?
Yes you just tell it what angle you would like to mow and it will do that pattern so it doesn't mow the same as the last
How do you deal with clippings?
Mowing often and returning clippings to the lawn in small amounts of perfect
Love ur sweatshirt❤
I like it, think I might wait for "Gen 3" for the technology to become a little more polished and then pull the trigger on something like this. Would love to have it mow my lawn 2 or three times per week during peak season. I would rather spend my time doing something else.
We need one that cuts to 3mm
Super fun video!
impressed tbh
Apparently, you have the latest firmware because your lines are NOT straight at all! I have a Luba 1 and Luba 2 and my lines are LASERstraight. I am not updating to the latest firmware as there is a bug in it causing drunk lines. As soon as Mammotion fixes this problem I'll also update my Lubas.
so if you need to stay away from the edges that means you need to cut the edges yourself?
hey ryan what is is the cost of one of those
The one in the video (which is rated at 2.5 acres) is around $4000 but there are smaller models and have lower prices, with the smallest rated at 0.25 acre and about $2000.
Nice toy enjoy
my gadget queen wife would be all over this.
Same thing with my pool cleaner robot - no need to be there for 2h allowed me to spend more time with the lawn 😂❤
5 months With Luba @ Do You Any update Video's ??????
I did one a few months ago
Hello Ryan. Thank you for the video. It helped me understand it all better while I contemplate buying one. I do, however, wish that you would have rated or said something about the company, and specifically the customer service of the Mammotion company. I noticed from their website that they are not located in the US and the listed phone number seemed to have too many numbers when I googled them. I have come to believe that any product is as good as their customer service to assist when things go wrong, so this company leaves with continued questions when it comes to being able to reach a representative to help with an issue, order parts, or whatever. Any insights that you can add regarding this topic would be appreciated. I realize that you are focused on performance in this video, but saying something about the company and their support channels when reviewing products would go a long way since viewers like me are watching in order to make the decision to purchase, and this one is not cheap. Thank you, again, for the help with the video.
I mean, for 90% of people, this is a product that would save so much time. Longevity is what im curious about. (they need to a create a mode that edges 🤣
I think the longevity aspect is overrated
Look at it as any cash flow recurring expense (cost of home ownership). Amazon sells these. They have a 3 year warranty and you can toss on a 3 year extended warranty for $120.
So that's $1800 for 6 years.
A mower costs $400-600 nowadays.
So this thing costs you $1200 for 6 years of mowing.
Tell the neighbor kid, much less a lawn company, that they're going to mow your lawn for $200 a year and they'll egg your house.
Now only if it could pick weeds, including poa.
will it mow at night?
Dude.. I definitely think you need
More front yard man..!!!🤣
Hopefully I’ll still be employed in the next few years
oh nice!
Why are the lines so wavy? I thought the accuracy was a lot better with the rtk robot mowers.
Bumpy lawn. It has suspension so it moves through the bumps but causes it to be a little less straight as it does
@@ryanknorrlawncare Wonder if slowing it down would straighten it up. What model did they give you? The H tall cut version or standard?
A sure sign of an impending apocalypse......
No! I refuse.
😂
I hate seeing my neighbors when I am mowing my lawn, so this thing is going to come in handy.
lol 😂
The downfall for these is backyard fences. I assume you’d have to buy two or go out and open the gate for it.
Those are called lawn rebel stripes 😅
Picturing Michael Scott’s ‘I. Am. A. R O B O T 🤖
Mine stays broke more than running constant errors
maybe needs a new update so u can just draw where need to go instead of have to follow the mower around the property.
I believe it's so you can visually make sure you have it mapped exactly where you want it to go. A map from up above can't quite see exactly what your eyes can see by doing it yourself
i draw the border by dragging my ecoflow mower with a dog leash
I don't understand I thought the reason that you planted all this grass was for the love of the mow....
Just kidding will you be evaluating more?
Yeah reach out to a couple other manufacturers and get a full team going all year.
It woud be interesting to see if you could program it to go down to the camping spot, mow and return to the charging station by itself and how much battery charge it would take.
I think having multiple charging stations would help.
I feel like the price point is high. I would rather just pay a landscaper.
Hey dude, love your vids. But I would recommend changing up your 1on1 camera angle. The whole time you're talking face to face with the camera, I am constantly trying to lean back and distance myself from you. You're just a little too close/zoom'd too far. XD
That's a 14mm lens so extreme wide angle. Basically as far back as you can get lens wise
Had me dying with "this can provide positioning data that's much more accurate to within... at lot closer distance"
I wish they could open the fence gate. 😵
They make doggy door type things for them.
@@shawntarlo good to know. Too bad I missed on the $1600 sale. Not spending this kind of money on a lawn bot. 😵
Looks like a lost turtle.
I’ve seen the movie I,Robot…no thanks.
This thing cuts your lawn for you while you watch it. Great. So instead of you getting some exercise for an hour and a half or so, you waste an hour of your time standing guard over it. If you don’t, someone might just pick it up and walk off with it.
The obstacle avoidance on that thing looks horrible. What are all the sensors doing that it has to bump into something to find it. Why can’t it just go around the obstacle? Will it find garden hoses or just chew them up?
It's pretty awful at object avoidance. It runs over things all the time, tears up stuff, basically disables itself. Using it in a field is pretty much the only application this works for. The GPS doesn't function around the house, it loses signal when mowing near the house. Expect to have to rescue this thing on the regular.
This thing would be stolen before it had time to mow the front lawn. 😅 Blowers are stolen on a daily basis, it’s unbelievable!
It has theft protection where you can track location
Im scared some kids will come by and see it and think it's a toy and pick it up and take it😅😅😅
It has theft protection as well
Next you'll be switching to battery powered mowers... Oh wait!
Love that Milwaukee!
🌱👍
NO THANKS!
It’s about freaking time!!!!! You always complain about not having enough time, or we can’t really go anywhere because I have to mow every few days…. You will have soo much more time to make more content, go on vacations, sing, and do whatever. You can still mow if you want but you don’t have to.
I have had my Husqvarna Automower EPOS for a year and I love it! I have more time to spray weeds or do landscaping, more time with my wife and family, I can go on vacation and not worry so much about how high the grass will be when I get home. It’s wonderful.
You can save a lot of money in gas also. These things run on almost no $ except maintenance.
Sorry Ryan but where are that videos when you talking about the baby shampoo lawn leveling and some more great ideas . Now for me its just about new mowers and you do nothing 😢
Guess you missed this and pretty much every video I've made this year ua-cam.com/video/s2PAFK4KppY/v-deo.htmlsi=YWyxGsLuiVXbz7Aw
