Update on the Albireo Watercokor paper: it may actually be 100% pulp, not cotton at all! I am pleasantly shocked! This paper is so delightful to use-I will need to translate the text on the back of my block to be sure, but the Albireo I found online definitely said 100% pulp. I highly recommend trying it!

Thank you Ann for bringing so much color and life to this memory for me! I love the freedom you bring to your art.... your sunset reflects perfectly the splendor of the moment that I remember trying to capture with my camera. Pinewood is a wonderful, small campground.. there are several interconnecting trails that encircle the reservoir, looping up and away and above the water. The elk come down and swim.. the cows on the fields beyond the water talk softly all night long. There are several Osprey nests along the shoreline.... and they dip and dive over the water. It's a magical place. I love what you did with this!

This sounds utterly sublime Lesley. You lined up a stunning photograph. I agree with what you said about having life injected into your memory, and filled with the colours you were trying to capture. Thank you. Without your photo, this painting would never have been brought into the world. The countryside you live so much is stunning and you have every right to feel so proud! Absolutely beautiful painting of Leslie’s stunning photo Ann. I love using my watercolour pencils. I have a lot of different makes that are considered professional. I bought 50 Derwent watercolour pencils online from a store closing down for a mere £45, so less that’s£1 per pencil. He was a lovely, elderly gentleman who was retiring. He let me choose all my colours, despite saying in his advert that he could only put them into random sets of 50. I do believe I may have charmed him 🤭😇. They are fun to use, but not a favourite. I have Albrecht Durer too in a 12 pack, then a 24 pack. Surprisingly not as many duplicates as you’d expect. I have Caran D’ache Museum Aquarelle in a 12 pack. I like them, but for the extra cost there is not enough of a difference between them and Albrecht Durer. I have Lyra too, they are branded by Rembrandt, but are actually based on Daler Rowney who has been swallowed up by Lyra. This is why Daler Rowney artist watercolour is hard to find. It is still made, but you have to search for it, despite the fact it is still made in England! 🤔🙄They are concentrating on their student line - Aquafine is everywhere you look, in every country too. Sorry, I digress, as per usual. You understand me Ann, you know I simply head off on random tangents. Leaving now… 👋🏻👋🏻🤭😂🎨👩🏻🎨🖌️❤️❤️
Thanks, Anita! That’s actually information and insight into the brands I simply don’t really have access to. I was aware that Rembrandt took over Lyra, but not the Daler-Rowney piece. Royal Talens seems to also be quite prevalent here in the student line.
You’re fortunate to also have tried the Derwent watercolor pencils. I really thought the Albrecht Dürer were wonderful so didn’t think to try anything else…the Lyra set was gifted to me and it’s quite usable but not as pigmented as the AD. That Os surprising you’ve managed to collect those configurations with few duplicates!

Thank you for the tips Ann. My Faber Casell Watercolor Pencils are 30 years old or older. I love them. I was looking at some reference photos with this same subject. I was thinking of texture and color. You gave me some great tips and suggestions

I know you said you love the Albrecht Durer water colour pencils…..but Have you tried the Derwent Inktense water colour pencils ?
You can use them dry or water activated
They are really fabulous 🤩🤩💕💕

how do you keep your watercolor paper from buckling ?
Hi there! This paper is a block, so it’s adhered on all 4 sides except for a small space. I’ve found the blocks to be very helpful in keeping my the paper from buckling.

Of note: this description says it’s not cotton! In that case I think this paper is even better than I thought! It truly acts like cotton!! If you’re interested in getting some, maybe call the stores to see when they will stock it again.
