    Thanks Marty. My daughter will be working on a portfolio in her high school art class and we are gathering a few watercolor supplies. I knew I could count on your guidance! These will work great for her and not break the budget! Our family really appreciates your videos! Thanks again!

      +Denise Chapel Thank you very much Denise. Glad to hear they're helping. These and the Mondeluz are really my biggest surprises in the past 6 months when it comes to watercolor pencils. These are affordable and the quality seems great. Hope you have an AWEOME day! - Marty

    Thanks for reviewing these! I'm glad you liked them and that you didn't waste your money, so to speak. I love my set as well and was surprised about the color vibrancy. Since these aren't the most expensive or higher end pencils, I didn't expect them to deliver so well.
    I think for mid-range pencils, these might be the best ones I've tried. I bought mine used and they're "old" so to speak, but they've not lost any in quality.
    As someone else suggested, would love to see you working with watercolor pencils, any really!

    I really enjoy your videos, because you have a simple, yet effective way of reviewing art supplies (and quite objective since it is your money).
    Have you ever thought of reviewing 'Sanguine/Sepia' pencils ? (lyra, Cretacolor, Conte a Paris, Koh-I-Noor, Faber Castell). Also, mentioning the differences between sanguine & colored pencils (chemical composition, ingredients etc) would be nice too.
    Thanks Owings & keep it up!

    I think I've got every colour in this set... I'm not sure. But I've got one of those wooden multi-shelved boxes, so it seems about right if there are only 70 something pencils in the set. It was inherited from my dad, and they're still going so I would definitely recommend them.
    I can't say much about how well they work with water from personal experience but I do know they work really well just as pencils.
    I mostly watched this video just to see what someone else said about them.

    I just got myself 2 sets (Koh i noor Mondeluz 36 for around 20 euros and one by Faber Castell Albrecht Dürer 24 for around 30euros). The reds have a great pigmentation for the czech pencils. Faber Castell I havent tried out yet, they look sooo good...i need to get better paper...

    Hi Marty, did you use another camera? The video quality is amazing, a crystal clear picture! I also enjoyed the more detailed review and the picture in picture feature.
    Regarding the pencils i'm a bit surprised. You rated them better than i would have expected! I only tested one Lyra Aquarelle pencil, a dark red, and i was a bit disappointed because the pigment didn't dissolve that well. Now that i have watched your video i recognize that the colours are pretty intense though and in your drawing demonstration they look fantastic. There don't seem to be any streaks.
    The 'regular' Lyra Polycolor pencils are among my favourite pencils. Maybe i will give the watercolour pencils another try...

    • @owingsart
      @owingsart  8 років тому +1

      +Anja Meurer Hi Anja - I agree with you about the pigment dissolving, so I only gave it a 6.5 on that. It's not that they're bad art dissolving, just not as good Faber-Castell or Caran d'Ache. Other areas were very good though and so overall, I was impressed by these. The camera's are the same, so I really think it is UA-cam and the end-users bandwidth that really determines quality. Also in the lower right hand corner you can set it to higher resolution. I film everything in HD at 1080p so it should be crystal clear. :-) I received your email. Thank you and I will respond quickly. Have a great evening! -Marty

    Very great video! Even though quite some time has passed now, I wanted to try to ask you an opinion on which one you found "better" between Staedtler's Ergosoft and Lyra Rembrandt. In the video it seems to me that the colour are quite similar in vibrance, but the ergosoft dissolve slightly better, is it true? And what about lightfastness and hardness of the lead?
    The thing is, I've got a set of twelve Ergosoft that introduced me to the joys of watercolour pencils, but all the pencils are worn out now, so I wanted to buy a new set of 24 or 36 colours. I enjoyed the ergosoft very much, but I wanted to try something of a little better quality, so I was thinking about trying the Lyra out. I use the pencils in combination with watercolour, so for what I do, I like very vibrant colours and a very soft lead. My dream would actually be a Caran d'Ache Supracolor Soft set, but they are very expensive...!

    • @owingsart
      @owingsart  8 років тому

      +Robert King Hi Robert - The Spectrums are on my list already, I just have to get to them. I'd recommend exploring other water soluble pencils, depending on what you're going to use them for. The Derwent Inktense are NOT lightfast for the most part. You can test them yourself, but I've been testing them for the last few years and they fade quickly in the light. For sketchbooks though, they work fine. - Marty

    could you compare watercolour pencils as pencils? im trying to choose a set for adding colour to sketches and want to keep it to minimal tools to carry. i have a few Durer, Derwent water and 1! Mondeluz (i have no idea what i've done but i regret it). i already don't like the derwent because they're chalky. my favourite pencils are Derwent artists (probably 'vintage' version now). anyway do you think this would be worth a comparison? versatility/colour options suitable for sketching people even? I'm torn between the Durer and Mondeluz but i'e never tried many (have inktense blocks but they can be too opaque and messy).

    • @owingsart
      @owingsart  8 років тому

      If you search my videos you will find a comparison vid I did some time ago, but the bottom line is you have two really good wc pencils, but the Faber-Castell Albrecht-Durer should be your first choice in my opinion. 👍👍😃😃

      Hay tantos grandes trabajos por ahí hoy en día, pero si usted puede encontrarlos usted debe tratar de Stillman y Birn Alfa o cuadernos de la serie Zeta . Si necesita sólo unas cuadras de papel de acuarela que debe tratar los arcos 300 lb , Fabriano (que es excelente ) o simplemente tratar de papel de acuarela de fluidos . Hoep eso ayuda.
