I like your version. I have been wanting this book. Thanks for the review. It was helpful. I got it used. Always try to get the used books. Thanks for your time and review
This book is excellent. I love that Sarah gives recipes for mixing beautiful soft pastel colors. I too buy used art books but this one was so new I could not find a used copy. I have saved so much money buying used books with free shipping on eBay that I could splurge on this new copy.
That’s great!! Thank you for watching & commenting❤️ I agree-I think the color mixing recipes really help make this book rise above the others. Creating muted palettes isn’t easy and might intimidate some beginner artists, but Sarah breaks it down so simply that her book would give even the most novice watercolorists confidence💕
This was a fun video Ann. You know I enjoy videos more whenever the artist is in their happy place, and that is precisely where you were with this book. As you said at the start, this is not a subject matter you ever really thought you’d enjoy, but what it proves is that no matter an artists preferred style of painting, there is simply no need to exclude any subject, because an artist need only stick to the style that gives them joy and paint whatever they like, in whatever is a style than makes them paint with a smile on their face, and a feeling of pride and success when complete. This video was a many layered video full of encouragement and, as ever with you my friend, utter pleasure evident throughout. Thank you ❤👩🏻🎨🖌️🎨❤️💐
Thank you so much, Anita! I guess it’s like finding the right pair of shoes, in a way. Shoes are great, we all need them, but if the high heels always hurt your feet, maybe you just need a different kind of heel❤️❤️
Excellent! Thanks for that🌿 I’ve got an affiliate link to Amazon US in the description…if you’re not in the Us it is supposed to take you to your country’s site. Enjoy!!👩🏻🎨🙌🏼
I’ve had this book several years so am interested in hearing your take on it - ( I did a few things with it but because I mostly paint figures, portraits and incorporate animals and landscapes I guess I lost interest ) maybe you will help me use the book again…
I hope my review lights a small fire of inspiration for you🥰 I’m not a floral artist but wow Sarah made it so easy! I hope you enjoyed this review & get a chance to try Sarah’s book! 💕🎨👩🏻🎨
Hi Ann, greetings from Australia. I enjoyed your reviews of this and Sarah's other books and, as a relative beginner in watercolour, I am keen to get a book like these to get me started. I know the basics of colour theory and colour mixing. I understand the supplies I will need, and have purchased and swatched some good quality paints, on good quality paper with decent brushes. As learning to draw is another of my ongoing challenges, I'm look for projects to get started with. (I am a retiree who discovered card making during lock down, I progressed to collage and have made quite a few journals.) Sorry for the long preamble, but my question is a simple one. Which of Sarah's books, out of this one or the Watercolor Workbook (or any other, for that matter) would you recommend as a primer? Thank you in advance.
Hi Heather! I’m so happy for you to begin your watercolour journey in your retirement! We have that somewhat in common-I’ve been an artist for most of my life and have only since retirement in 2018 been able to take the the time to really focus on watercolor. It was such a struggle for me at first until I figured out I needed cotton paper 🧐🤨 Once I got that squared away things got much easier! One of the great things about Sarah’s books is that there is no pre-determined order to go in. Really, all you need to be your guide is your preference! Modern Watercolor Botanicals will allow you to trace or draw the elements of the design onto your own watercolor paper. Watercolor Workbook, Flowers, Feathers & Animal Friends and Café in Bloom will all allow you to paint inside the book itself, as those pages are made from watercolor paper. The paper in the books is not cotton watercolor paper, however it is not a deterrent at all. Sarah has carefully chosen designs that will work for any skill level using the watercolor paper in the book. I hope that helps you! As you continue learning, I have 2 playlists of beginning watercolor lessons you might enjoy: For 2024: (still adding to this one): ua-cam.com/play/PLR7d_Il9GxrTy_T37Pi4XhYqhtwhx88gS.html&si=QO0Oy0u8bqYszkPs And for 2023: ua-cam.com/play/PLR7d_Il9GxrTWjSmq6RL8yPypkwq-y7_q.html&si=VzK6dOxVJcWhNpUA Please let me know if you have any more questions & ENJOY!!
@@artonthecreek Thanks so much for your reply, Ann. You're taking the time was very much appreciated. I've gone ahead and made my purchases (yes, plural) and look forward to receiving my books on Monday. They were both (Watercolor Workbook and Modern W/c Botanicals) a good price on Amazon Australia.
