Awwwww! This little guy is so sweet!! I loved seeing him come to life from your initial sketch. I saw your review of the RS Aquarius mixing set and am going to look for it. Thank you for the tip and demo on sealing at the end! 💗

Wow! this was great. My hubby is always wanting to send my watercolor cards to his friends and relatives and I always kinda cringe about it because I'm concerned about sending out into the wind and weather unprotected. The information you demonstrated and shared solved a problem and now I have another tool in my paintbox. Thanks do very much!!!

What a sweet Robin. It was lovely to see a European Robin for a change as it is quite different to the American Robins I often see depicted. You did make him somewhat uppity and grumpy looking which made me grin, as they are quite cheeky little birds. Cold wax medium offers so much more choice on what we can do with watercolour paintings. I love that it means it can also be attached to a wooden cradle and hung without the necessity of using glass, along with the ability to post our work around the globe. I wonder if it adds any protection against UV rays? 🤔👩🏻‍🎨🎨🖌️👏🏻👏🏻🥰

Yes absolutely it can be used to protect watercolor without framing under glass. I wouldn’t think it adds anything to lightfastness. It’s made of beeswax & gamsol. (Just a guess on my part.)

I use this to waterproof the swatch cards which I include inside my watercolour palettes. I find the finish silkier and smoother than laminating them. Thanks for showcasing the Gamblin medium. I have been using the Schmincke cold wax medium, but it comes only in small tubes and it is relatively exlensive. I had never thought about it to use itnon postcards 😮. Thanks for this very useful tip

What a great idea to use this to seal swatches! I’ve seen several artists use a laminating machine or clear backing tape but I always wonder if that changes the colors a bit visually or will it over time ? I’m like you I love the silkiness that cold wax medium imparts🩵🩵

Wow that's fantastic 😊 luv the tiny robins awww great video. Out of interest do you know if the cold wax will protect watercolor from fading as well? I guess it will but not 100% sure 🤔 xx

Hi Jenny! Thank you so much!
If I understand pigments and lightfastness correctly, it is up to the pigment itself to dictate how lightfast something is. Cold wax medium only contains beeswax and gamsol (and in some cases small amounts of some type of resin.) None of those will work as a UV protectant to my knowledge.
Full disclosure: I am guessing based on conjecture from what I know so I may be wrong. You might have to Google this one, but I really don’t suspect that it can be used to prolonglightfastness. I hope that helps!
