My only mistake was allowing my wife to persuade me into buying the gray one instead of the black. RG406V is, so far, truly a king of vertical retro consoles...
I've played mine daily since I got it. I bought Metaphor Refantazio for PS5 (an excellent game btw) and am only a few hours in because I'm drawn to my 406. A PS2 handheld.... c'mon!
I ordered the 40XX and found out about the 406V and it was being available for pre-order in 2 days. I contacted Anbernic and cancelled the 40XX and ordered the 406V. This has reignited my love for retro games. I'm a AAA PC gamer and thought I'd never be interested in retro gaming again but this device has brought me back, I love it! I love your personality too, subbed up!
I just watched 5 of your videos, starting with the m17, rg35, rg35 mini, rg35 plus, rg40 h... almost bought each one. Found each handheld online, added to cart, then right before purchasing looked for your next video and subsequently replaced it in the cart with the next version. I should have just sorted your videos by newest... but it was awesome watching you review these over the last year+ (Also this journey started with me spending $35 now I'm about to spend $200 on the 406V w/ your code :D
Same here originally going to get a X6 just to kill time then keep going up the food chain to here. This is the limit, anything more and i'm just getting a steam deck.
I was holding off for your specific review in order to buy this. The video is finally here, great content like always and of course, convincing. Making my purchase from your link right now🤓
The 405V was my first handheld and the one that got me into this hobby. I was super excited when the 406V was announced I bought it right away. I love how chunky and full of charm it is.
Among the not so expensive: RG556 for ergonomics, Retroid Pocket 4 Pro for power and, much probably, the yet to release Retroid Pocket 5 for a mix of both. And remember: if you really enjoy one specific model but its sticks are bothering you, you always can tear it apart and change them for better ones if a simple cap swap/addition not solve.
I have a 405M (horizontal) as well as this 406V. I don't know what it is... maybe it's my DMG Game Boy upbringing but I can use verticals way more efficiently. I'm tall so maybe it's my slender fingers. Even my Miyoo Mini+ is better than my 405m. Larger horizontal handhelds like the Switch are fine, but if I'm playing a fighting/action game, I'm way better on a vertical.
Honestly, i love it when you do videos with characters' interaction. My fav video you have done is the odin 2. I love that you were using mythology with your content. Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you.
Awesome, and thank you! I was looking for a couple of retro handhelds for x-miss gifts for my kids. I had my eye on the RG Cube, but I think they would be happier with these. I just bought 2 using your code.
Could you make a video where you show us how to set this up? Including which emulators to use, how to tweak their settings to make them look great. I know, I know, it would he an hour long video, but setting up an Android device is the biggest nightmare I've ever encountered in the history of gaming, but I really love everything else about this device except the fugly color options.
100% really wanted to get a linux device, but this one looks great plus linux ones tend to be underpowered for psp and more demanding stuff. On the other hand no portmaster, which is sad honestly
@@Omgtired Same bolts screwed with different tools. Much of what you can run with portmaster is already natively ported to Android or you can run with a DOS or other specific emulator for the said content...
This was a great review. Would this be a good starter retro handheld? I know nothing about this scene other than I liked playing all of these games back in the day
The RG405V was my entry into the world of handheld emulation devices and I loved it. Moved onto the RG556, and then last month bit the bullet and got an Odin 2 Pro to last me a long long time... so it's nice to see the device I started with get a new revision! BUT at $219, you can pay $80 more and get the Odin 2 now... for me, the extra eighty gets you SO much more...
I love your content. You really put your heart to it (don't know if you have read the manga Gundam, but Alita wagers literally her heart att a armwrestling competition. That's how it feels). And you can feel that through your work. You mamma should be proud. We love you. ❤
My rp4pro has been looking at me from the corner with tears welling in its eyes ever since the 406v arrived October 2nd, the year of our Lord 2024. I have about 20 handhelds and this one is my current favorite. Everything is so buttery smooth and comfortable, I even like how it looks. (Black transparent)
Just bought one and it is coming. Problem of living so near to Shenzhen, you get these electronic things cheap and easy, I just bought too many of these.
I just got the R36S last week & I absolutely love it despite my hands being a bit too big for maximum comfort. After seeing your vid on the 406V I'm sure it'll be my next handheld purchase. Other than that 👍👍 & just sub'd!!
"CubeSP" or "CubeXXSP"? looks niceI but guess something more like a "406SP" should be a bit more reasonable despite maybe yet having some need to turn a device like this more thicker due to the thermals.
I have the rg353vs and its amazing. This is coming from someone who doesnt like emulation. The fact that its shaped like a gameboy makes it so much better.
Kinda wish I had the black one now. I do like the grey but that looks so nice. Such a good system for the money. Would love to see how yours is setup. To get the best out of it
@@TechDweeb can't believe you replied. My hero. Absolutely adore your videos. Your sense of humour and style is absolutely perfect. Very much look forward to that! Feel free to use the 406 as the example 🥰

Great vid, I love your content. I normally prefer horizontal handhelds like the rg556 to vertical ones, but this one is pretty damned tempting. Mind you, the way Anbernic operate, there will be a horizontal one plus 3 other new handhelds by next Thursday…..
Love the effort you put in these vids. They should send you every new model in each color scheme and then some. Verticals like these will never be my flavor though, for just one simple reason: no analog triggers to play racing games that support it. Analog triggers were such a huge innovation back in the PS2 days. Wouldn't want to step back from that.
Nice! Newb here and I was wondering if you could do a vid about how to tackle your retro backlog without feeling overwhelmed with too many options. What’s your advice to newbs 🤓🕹️
Last night I went through my RG406v and played one new game from 34 different systems for a few minutes each. For my adhd, I need to keep it fresh and fun. Then I click 'favorite' on each game I liked to help consolidate my ROM sets. Good luck finding your method!
Curious little (big) device. I exclusively playing on R36s because I'm a pauper, but this style really appeals to me and the power might actually mean I can play some Dreamcast finally.
Now that Anbernic came out with the RGcubeXX I wish they had just made the cube with this screen and sticks. I know it wouldn't be the "cube" but I have the cube and I constantly wish the screen was 4:3.
oh man, this looks awesome. the last emulation device i bought was the RG350 and while decent, it definitely doesn't handle all the retro stuff i want to play. i'm particularly happy to hear that this thing can handle the saturn. i've been dying to have panzer dragoon saga on a portable device and i love the vertical form factor.
Damn you, u almost convinced me to buy a vertical handheld! Good vid, I actually like black handhelds. Currently dreaming about my new obsession though, the Oled Odin Portal, so gotta save up my pennies for that....Sorry your highness.
waiting on the horizontal king now. those sticks. good dpad. this screen (or an oled variant of this). stacked shoulders. grips like on the arc for example. and honestly i prefer a budget chip, i don't care much about high end emulation plus i prefer linux OS, so 3566, H700 or even 3326 would be fine for me.
Anbernic has tapped into the realm of perfection here. They can make the ultimate handheld with the next generation of this: - make the screen 16:9 (this can be achieved by widening the upper half just slightly while trimming down the bezels) - put some top rated internals while upping the price ( for example, Snapdragon 870 for base version and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Pro version) - move the sticks a bit more apart - increase the button and d-pad size a bit Even for $250 for base and 350 for maxed out pro version this would be crazy great imo
I bought this just because I really wanna play Kingdom hearts again and I’m hoping I can do that and from everyone I’ve seen, it seems like will absolutely be able to do that, very excited to get mine in the mail!
It's looks like a good option for some, for me I prefer my miyoo mini plus for retro stuff, and steamdeck for the more challenging things. The one I'm actually looking forward to is if miyoo release the foldable!
I absolutely love vertical handhelds, but once the screen gets to 4 inches it gets too big and I would rather go with a horizontal version with this one, which I’m sure will be coming out soon and I can finally replace my 405M! Super excited for that, I just love me a good 4:3 screen!
Yes, Looney Tubes basketball! Man, I really feel this was a undiscovered gem. Would love to play others in it. Wish could play some folks online on parsec.
