Pretty much. There are a ton of custom OS options for things to run better than on stock software. Most of these retro handhelds run well enough with it. But for a better experience, most recommend a custom OS. And there are plenty of guides online, like this one.

That is why I tried a batocera build on my steamdeck. But it wouldn't boot so I gave up. I couldn't get emulation station to find my games. The few I did download. So I gave up in that, and then saw this. And thought for the price I would give it a go. and leave my Rog Ally and Steamdeck for the big boys games. Well actually that will be my 4080 super gaming PC but still.
so the games don't come with it? I need an SD card? I can't just open the box and play? I wanna buy it but I'm not looking to get stuck on some tech issues and throwing it in the garbage. You're speaking a different language.

Thank you for the video, I ordered one from aliexpress without even thinking about it, I mean with the new member discount and free shipping that was like 35 euros, added and a case for another 2,5 euros and now I look around to be ready for it.
Does it also have MSDOS emulation? Or can you install your own emulators on it? I guess only ARM emulators will do.
Does it have any of the Super Mario games NES or SNES?
Recently what i noticed is that nintendo 1st party games like mario is not included from the stock sd card but other sellers do include it so it largely depends on the seller.
flashing the file with etcher fales evey time and for some reason afterwards the sd cart gets split into 5 drives (16 GB Unused, 128Mb used, 8GB used, 1128 gb used, 116GB unused) im using a 128 GB Sd cart for this so it should devinitly fit. i ve put the drives back togehter using Create and format hard drive partitions but it just wont work even after countless tries Plz helpppp
so i figured out the issiue: tunrs out it says on the offical github that u arent suposed to use balena etcher so i used rufus instead and it worked perfectly
@@versüftercoachübernachter hey!! I did try with Rufus and Balena Etcher . Rufus worked better. i did all the steps and replaced the file but when i put the sd card back into the R36s I just get an empty screen ? did the same thing happen to you ?
nice video, what's the battery life like on these?
Thanks! It depends on the games you're emulating. I got around 4-5 hours on average.
Is there a list of the games it has on it?
Can you add other systems and ROMs? I would like to play some of the old Commodore 64 games.
I don't have a list of games, but you can add games. r36s.co.uk/blogs/news/r36s-game-list
As far as Commodore 64, I don't think it supports that platform. I haven't tried installing games for that platform though.
Thank you
@truecrimson1 you're welcome
Amount of games also varies from seller to seller.
Hey buddy , thanks a lot for your video… just a quick question, can I use a Mac laptop to flash the SDCard …? To save the files on my laptop if in case the sdcard from the game failed to work…?
Are you able to connect a controller to the r36s via RetroArch? My ps5 controller is recognized but I am unable to configure it as the only buttons that register are the shoulder buttons?
I got a r 40s pro as a gift. I am completely new to all of this and need help setting up its wifi, its sd cards. Etc. The only conversation i am finding for r 40s pro is reviews and "its just a clone of the r36s" im finding all kinds of tutorials and how toos for r 36s. Need to know since its a clone will this information pretty much apply to my r 40s pro too?
Anyone know how to save games? I haven’t played a game in 15 years when I played Pokemon sapphire. I bought one and played Pokemon and saved file but turned it back on and there was no save file. TIA
@@aydendunne6051 I think that you need to specifically load it when the game is launched
Just did a quick UA-cam Short about this: ua-cam.com/users/shortslmLOrA-GsiU
To save games press the select button and r1 button at the same time, then select button and l1 button to load
I got an RG351P used only for 40$ wich is INSANE!
Because it's 3:2 screen I only use it for GBA and after I put ArkOs on it the device just feels like a dream because of it's Anbernic build quality.
i love this thing!

*Yeah, don't we all*
🍻
if your retro then you should be fine with 25-30 fps on n64 games. When we played those games on a actual n64 they did run at 25-30 fps LOL. WE were fine with it back then
That's true.
I think that console works amazing I got mine
None of this works for me, I got mine yesterday! I have been getting no where. As far as I can see I have flashed the required files on to the sd card, i replaced the dtb file. I plug the new card into the right slot (with the left slot filled with the original card) I press the on button but I get nothing! BTW, I used rufus to flash onto the card, balena did not work for me. PLEASE HELP!
Im a little confused.......when the console comes in ,it is plug and play. But if you want the console to operate way better then you do all the flashing of the new SD card and change settings?
Pretty much. There are a ton of custom OS options for things to run better than on stock software. Most of these retro handhelds run well enough with it. But for a better experience, most recommend a custom OS. And there are plenty of guides online, like this one.
@baldlyrudy got it 👍 I'm not very tech savvy and if I do end up ordering one of these I'll definitely try to do the upgrades. Thanks again for responding
@4x4rambam you're welcome! I hope you enjoy it.
Hi, thanks for the video! Is it possible to keep using one single SD card for ArkOs and games, and then only update the OS and keep the games?
for the price it is amazing, got mine for £37 delivered, just add a new sd
10:24 I’m sorry, but I’ve managed to corrupt 2 Sandisk cards using Balena Etcher!! I can’t keep spending money on cards. I tried to transfer the arkos file to the sd card - balena warned me that I would deleted something! I am completely confused and have ruined two sd cards!
Thanks for the review mate❤️
I already have one ✅ I've only one question i hope you can help out with!
Can you name your wall drop paper (the orange one) on your review video!?
Where can I find something like these please 🥺❤️
I just ordered mine. £33 and cannot wait. 128 Gb version. I dunno how many games some say 40'000 lol. But the one I bought did not say.
I tried getting emuulation station running on my steamdeck. and a batocera build. Both failed miserably. and tbh I cannot be bothered to source all the roms.
Nice! Let me know what you think about it when you get it.
@@baldlyrudy I will if I remember I saved your video to my desktop for some information I saw. So should do. Cheers.
@@Steelninja77 looking forward to it. Cheers.
what battery came with it? Most of the one's I have tried have the Nokia BL-5C
There is also Orange, Red and Blue colors ;)
Ive seen the orange but red and blue!!?
@@Kooaid-9 Yes I have the red on my profile and OGTechnick has the blue
What's the average battery life? And can you play while charging?
4-6 hours and yes.
@@baldlyrudy thank you!
My one doesn't have that Tekken psp game 😢 been loving it though
Might have to Google where to get it. 😉
You know what I just noticed these devices were clearly made for people that are not left handed
The only thing i dislike is how the buttons feel! It feels tough i prefer a more smoother button but thats just me
yea it's the only thing holding me back in getting it, looking to play platforms so I want it to feel snappy
so the games don't come with it? I need an SD card? I can't just open the box and play? I wanna buy it but I'm not looking to get stuck on some tech issues and throwing it in the garbage. You're speaking a different language.
miyoo mini plus
Got one to day got all Game on it
Are you serious? This is an emulation device!! Games on it would be illegal dumbo
@@justingodin7806 It does come with thousands of games preloaded and ready to play out of the box
I can't get the 2nd player controller to work, it's detecting the controller but the second controller is not responding
maybe you can try mapping the controls?
hi, does it come with the 1981 Atari arcade game "Defender" ?
Hi. I don't know, as my card was a dud when I got my unit.
Do you have to pay for individual games?
No
Have you ever used any of the newer external GPU’s? I’d be curious to know if there’s any that could be used with the steam deck safely.
Yup. I've heard of them, but SteamOS doesn't support eGPU, IIRC. It only works on WIndows. Unless Valve released some update for SteamOS that I'm not aware of.
Why am I unable to connect my r36s via the otg port?
Does it have Metabots Metabee RPG for the gba? That’s all I want it for… haha
Depends on the seller, but mine does.
I legit only want something like this for sonic adventure, obviously Pokémon and some other oldies but mainly sonic adventure, with that being Dreamcast I'm kinda worried about bothering 😂
Yeeeeaaaaah. Dreamcast is a crapshoot with some of the games there.
How do save your game? I played 3 hours of Pokémon Fire Red Version and saved multiple times but when I exited to the main menu and went back into the game, it started me off at the beginning and didn’t let me load my previous game 😫
@@sportsdude430 hello,I think I can help.i had the same problem whole playing a rom hack of fire red .I used the retroarch(or any emulator you are using) savestate instead of the game's save after that I had no problem but you will have to manually open that state everytime you wanna play
I hear that Samsung A54 with an snes9x emulator also works well. And it lets you use an external controller via android Bluetooth.
I mean, you're not wrong. It's also 3x-4x the price, so yeah....of course it'll have better tech. 🤷♂️
Hey do you know how to Safe your Pokémon game I click on safe but then it dissapear all the time
Same here smh
ua-cam.com/users/shortslmLOrA-GsiU?feature=share
Older guy here so you can just buy and play or do you need to actually have to download stuff and update????
If the handheld comes with a stable SD card, then you should be good to go.
Edit: If not, then you'll have to install an OS, like ArkOS.
Im thinking of getting one for me and my sister.... Question im only 5mins into the video ... Can you save your spot in the games ??
Yes
Do you need to replace the sd card with the roms or should I just keep it like it is? It sounds like a hassle to transfer every single one of the games so I’m just wondering
Is it ready to go and game or do I gotta do computer and stuff I’m just looking 2 play sumthing at work
Mine came with a dead card, but my guess is that most people won't run into that problem. It does come with games.
@ thx u very much

Is there an eye comfort shield option from blue light?
I can't find a company in Canada that will ship aside from Amazon for over $100. Aliexpress will not ship to Canada.
@@reel_images you need to hunt around a lot, check a ton of sellers. I just ordered one from Mizar Game Store. Sometimes they are available and disappear so you need to literally just check a ton of them
Out of interest sake, can one copy the files, in the event something goes wrong with the SD card?
Yes

Yes. For each game it saves a separate save state.
