I recently got my first handheld (RG353VS), and so far it's really awesome. Now I'm trying out ArkOS on it and also managed to get portmaster running. Good stuff.
I think the market is a lil over-saturated myself, but I enjoy having choice, I’m not gonna buy any handhelds until we get more clamshells. It’s absolutely insane to me that there’s only 3 clamshells on the market currently being produced and the only choices are $40-90 and like $800+
It's good to see that us retrogamers have plenty of choices of device to choose through and pick the one we feel is right for us. I remember a time when independent handheld makers were far and few between. Things like the GP32, Dingoo and um, err that was it.
For me, It's actually a *BIG BONUS* that they are using the same chipset and OS on all these. Each RGXX has a feel all its own. And a different type of pocketability to suit my needs for the day. My first and only portable retro handheld is a Miyoo Mini Plus. I'm happy with it, but what I would like to improve/add: bigger screen, bigger and more ergonomic body, one(!) joystick (since not all games are convenient for me to play on D-Pad, like Zelda and Chrono Trigger), add HDMI-out and Bluetooth, and also to be able to put EmulationStation framework.... It seems like this console is made for people like me.
yes! this seems like a perfect device to me, i don’t even mind the cardinal snapping because im only gonna use it like an 8-way dpad anyway. that said im curious if a clamshell would be even better. i never had a clamshell device, not even a phone.
This device looks pretty good! I mean, it is never a bad thing to have options for handhelds as long as they are quality builds. I don't need another handheld as I already have a Steam Deck and Retroid Pocket 4 Pro, but I could see myself picking one of these up as a gift for a gaming friend.
I don’t get the complaints either. We don’t have too many choices for 4 inch vertical devices. I was happy that this has appeared, I might actually get one (now I have the 405v, I might get this one too, as my preferred choice is 4 inch vertical). Ppl start to complain that it’s the same as all the rest when finally we get something different??? I don’t get it…
Now that they're announced the RP5 I wish that Retroid would take a page out of Anbernic's book and announce a Flip 2 using the RP4 chipset and software.
Imo that shouldn’t even be considered taking a page out of Anbenic’s book, it’d just be a smart decision given the oversaturated brick market. There’s only 3 choices of clamshell’s on the market and absolutely nobody would be able to compete with the RP Flip 2 performance to price ratio. Nobody’s even competed with the Original Flip. I’ll never stop bugging them for a Flip 2.
Damn you techdweeb. I was happy with my RG40XX H but now with all your fancy diagrams I think I really need the RG40XX V! You raise too many valid points. Perhaps I am secretly a closet vertical gamer and I need the V to come out. Thanks for an awesome video. Cheers! 😊
I love BIGGZAZZLE! It has a nice look and buttons of the same color! Best of all, it is a vertical handheld with a 4" screen. Very cool. Thank you so much for the video!😏
Im getting this as ny first handheld emulator, been using my phone and got tired of not having actual buttons like i used to lmao, so i spent like a week and settled on this one and it gets here in a few hours and I'm watching this bc im exited, and this is only making me more exited
Very nice, I finally know why I enjoy my vertical handhelds more... well I will add, for home consoles like snes it feels a bit like using a somewhat small controller while looking at a tiny TV, which is usually higher of the controller in the line of sight (unless you play like a freak with a TV on the floor and holding the controller over your head... that sounds funny, now that I think about it...). So basically it just feels right
I think it's great that Amberlic have released so many options based on the same chipset. Something for everyone. It's also great as it makes it easier for the community to work on third party operating systems. I think it would be great if they took this same approach and released a range of portables based on a mid tier chipset that could play more.
My only problem with Anbernic is they keep releasing the devices with a sub-par stick(s). It's a known problem they could be easily fixed. I know I could probably change the stick(s), but that's an extra cost, a hassle and it should have already have been a good stick out of the box. Why make a device with that stick(s) if it doesn't work well with the games that are best played with them?
I wasn't a big fan of the vertical handhelds initially. I've changed my mind after using the Flipzizzle. The Biggzazzle is really nice and I bought it as an upgrade to my Bizzazzle. I got the white version and it's so slick looking. I mostly play Vampire Savior and other arcade games so the joystick is a really nice addition for me.
Mine showed up yesterday. I was hopeful I'd like it... It's actually NICER than I'd hoped? The slimmer back buttons, the joystick being moved in a bit, the all white color, the screen, etc etc etc. This is coming from a 351v among other devices, as well as being a vertical fanboi. Even the stock OS is pretty good? I'm really impressed with this one. I'm looking forward to getting Knulli on it and for Knulli to fix the cardinal snapping on the stick, but so far that hasn't been that big of an issue for me. The only bummer for me is that the 406v was announced before mine could even get to me. I own the 405v and I've never warmed up to it. Part of it is the color choices (I love all white). Part of it was the amount of tinkering needed for PS2/GC. I'll be ordering the 406v when available and selling my 405v. I do feel though that they'll be a nice pair? 40xxV for linux/lower end gaming. 406v for android/higher end. I know anbernic is constantly pushing out options which I actually think is great. I'm just shocked they went vertical with the next "6" and not a smaller horizontal, especially after the retroid pocket announcement. Yes the 556 exists but it's 16:9, a 406m or p would be a direct competitor to the mini. The cube is close I suppose.
My only problem with too many handhelds being released is the fomo I feel from not having the newest shiniest devices! I don't want to turn into a handheld hoarder, but it's tough to resist these ever improving designs.
I agree with this. If the performance is the same across them all. Then its just a form factor choice. Instead of saying. "I wish they put the cpu from their last device in this form factor i really like" though i do wish they did a road map of all the devices for the year.
If you already have one of these then I can see it being frustrating that there isn't something actually new that's coming out. But if you don't and you're just getting into the space the options where it's just the shape size and looks that's different and you don't need to worry about the internal power could be really appealing to someone getting started
Haven't bought an emulation handheld in probably fifteen years, almost got the sp version since the sp was a favorite growing up, but I think the four inch screen is what won out for me; I'll see in a few days how much I like it.
I don't have a retro handheld yet and I feel the bigzazzle might be the one for me. I cannot decide on the color though 😢, I like both white and blue... Btw I clicked the fingers up button, as you requested.
11:13 How's the stick for DoS and Postmaster games like HoMaM2 in KNULLI? I see you playing it, so it must be fine, but wondering if you had a deeper opinion on using the stick as a mouse pointer?
Works totally fine. On systems with better sticks you have better pointer control, but if you lower the sensitivity in the Core Options it's totally playable with the stick like this. Looks AMAZING on this screen too!
I think that most reviewers miss the point of the "analog stick". It is true that it behaves more like an arcade joystick than that an analog stick, but I believe that it the idea. This handhelds are targeted for retrogaming, so, there are lot more arcades emulators and games respect to N64, DC and PS1. Actually, an analog stick is not require for most PS1 games, so an arcade like stick behave better for PS1 games. So, the only consoles that lose some control accuracy are N64 and DC, yet both are enjoyable, and playing arcade games with that arcade joystick like stick is fabulous. That stick deserves recognition.
Was gonna go with the rgCubexx but ended up ordering this instead, my first retro handheld!! The 1:1 by one screen for pico-8 would've been nice but I think this 4:3 screen will do me just fine, and it'll be better for super nintendo too (not a fan of 8:7 snes personally )!!! :)
As a person who buys these to review before selling Anbernic handhelds it sucks that they come out with a new one every month. So I have to pick & choose what I want to sell.
I never got the opinion that they had too many options with the same hardware. It's your problem if you are tempted to buy all of them and somehow think they're an "upgrade path" when they're really not meant for repeat buyers. But then again, it would be better if they release all of these at the same time. Exact same day. That way you don't get disappointed at what you bought.
i recently had to return my RG Arc because the display started acting weird. and now i'm wondering if i should get this instead of a new Arc. i really liked how the arc feel in the hands, the stacked shoulders, the dpad was good. this one has a stick tho, so the few games that require stick and dpad would be better here, compared on the arc, that needs remapping.
I thought the highlight would be the unveiling of the correct name for the device... But who knew that other than reviewing the hardware it turns out TechDweeb gives practical life advice! 9:58 how to pick which girlfriend to marry!
Personally, I love all the choice in device form factor (even if it means I'm tempted to buy a new one every month). All I need now is for Anbernic to make a 4 inch vertical handheld with pixel perfect GBA scaling and my dream handheld will be a reality

RG40XXSP Now!
New techdweeb video drops and im like (staring at screen zoned out)
I like your intros. Theyre always silly and fun. Theyre not laugh out loud funny, theyre remember it in my daily life funny. I like that kind of funny.
I recently got my first handheld (RG353VS), and so far it's really awesome. Now I'm trying out ArkOS on it and also managed to get portmaster running. Good stuff.
Love that thing!
The perspective comparison against PC's was actually spot on.
Retroid pocket 5 totally took my attention.
Will be tricky to pick between base model odin 2 and Rp5.
One is a smudge magnet the other is not.
TechDweeb deserves way more than 100k subscribers! If only Amberlick would allow TechDweeb to help design the perfect 4:3 device…
It would be GLORIOUS
I love this model so much ❤. After the RG35XX, RG35XXPLUS, THIS ONE IS AWESOME
That intro segment was hilarious 😂
Every day is a new handheld tech king congrats 100K subs
For me, It's actually a *BIG BONUS* that they are using the same chipset and OS on all these.
Each RGXX has a feel all its own. And a different type of pocketability to suit my needs for the day.
I really enjoy being able to use one SD card in all my Anbernics and have my save games when I switch consoles.
Also, the custom firmwares is easy for the developers to get up and running with each new release.
So because Anbernic sticks with the same chipset, more CFWs are becoming available for the RGXX series.
I love the look, form factor, and size of this. If the analogue stick was better I'd be upgrading from my Miyoo Mini.
*Miyoo Mini Plus
Watch Wulff Dens video about the stick. Apparently it only moves in 4 directions which sucks
Man I love this channel. Techdweeb your funny. I loved the beginning.
Now I'm waiting for the flipbiggle
That would be the perfect travel handheld.
RG40XXSP... ... ... YES PLEASE!
@@janX9 yea flip DS SP would be nice :D
I don’t get the complaints either. We don’t have too many choices for 4 inch vertical devices. I was happy that this has appeared, I might actually get one (now I have the 405v, I might get this one too, as my preferred choice is 4 inch vertical). Ppl start to complain that it’s the same as all the rest when finally we get something different??? I don’t get it…
Another good one TD 🤠👍🏽
You beat me to it! I was working on my video all day yesterday, but I think I need another day or two..😅 Oh well, I'll take notes! 💚
I'm more in line with you than most of the other reviewers on this one. 💚
Great video! Having a lot of options is awesome!
Cheers! 😊
I just got the purple one last week. It’s so nice
Anbernic is reaaly cool for youtubers, 1 console review all the week! 😂
Best intro EVER!
I hope they release a mid-range!
If they do, I hope they do the same thing they've done with the RGXX line. 😊
I'm excited to check out the 406V!
i think i will get this for my birthday
thx for the review
Your script is really good
My only problem with too many handhelds being released is the fomo I feel from not having the newest shiniest devices!
This looks great. I might get this one in blue. It's not one of the secondary colors I like but at least it's a color.
Haven't bought an emulation handheld in probably fifteen years, almost got the sp version since the sp was a favorite growing up, but I think the four inch screen is what won out for me; I'll see in a few days how much I like it.
Man I love vertical handhelds for the exact same reason!!! That screen needs to be above my hands not beside them!
I don't have a retro handheld yet and I feel the bigzazzle might be the one for me. I cannot decide on the color though 😢, I like both white and blue...
Btw I clicked the fingers up button, as you requested.
Wow, the white one looks pretty nice. You had me at cozy XD. I love the little rgb light for that joystick, actually XD
@@TechDweeb Much obliged TD. Cheers!
I was personally waiting for the "Big-Azzle" 😂
I love this handelds, especially my RG351P.
I have a question, are this new RG40*** more capable of running PS1 games then the older generations?
Tech Dweeb you sound sicker...than usual
The thumb is the ultimate finger!
Nice review. I am looking for a 4" vertical handheld mostly for gameboy and vertical arcade. How does this compare to the Powkiddy rgb20sx?
Was gonna go with the rgCubexx but ended up ordering this instead, my first retro handheld!! The 1:1 by one screen for pico-8 would've been nice but I think this 4:3 screen will do me just fine, and it'll be better for super nintendo too (not a fan of 8:7 snes personally )!!! :)
Soon 100k let's go 🎉🎉🎉🎉
As you were going through your naming scheme I guessed bigzazzle just before you said it and felt oddly goofy yet proud 😅
It’s awesome and just wait till next year.
Oh Wow, how's the build on the 256gb option? I don't currently have a PC to obtain my own build if it's possible to change.
😅👍
As a person who buys these to review before selling Anbernic handhelds it sucks that they come out with a new one every month. So I have to pick & choose what I want to sell.
Do you use a custom boot screen for knulli? Seems right up your alley 🧡
It looks great, but it's not going to be fun playing goldeneye with the messed up thumb stick, is it?
i recently had to return my RG Arc because the display started acting weird.
and now i'm wondering if i should get this instead of a new Arc. i really liked how the arc feel in the hands, the stacked shoulders, the dpad was good.
this one has a stick tho, so the few games that require stick and dpad would be better here, compared on the arc, that needs remapping.
Which CFW would u recommend for the rg35xx sp? I still have the stock OS on mine and can't decide to go with knulli or muOS. Also, does knulli still not have hinge support?
