My first retro handheld was the RG556. Though it was an amazing console for the price, ended up selling it for an Odin 2 just cause I wanted to emulate more recent systems. I also wanted a 4:3 aspect ratio for older systems, so now I have this RG406v on the way. Thanks for the video.
I haven't ordered mine yet, but I'm going to get it for Christmas... It will be my first handheld... I'm so excited about it. I really wanted the 405v ... But never pulled the trigger... I love the vertical form factor... I'm probably getting the grey? But I also like the white ... (beige)
A black woodgrain stain would have sold me on this since I have the 405V woodgrain. Waiting for something to emulate PS3 in this form factor from Anbernic 👀👀👀
I feel the wood grain is a very niche colour choice, if they had sold more 405v wood grain., they’d probably have done something similar, but I just don’t agree with you at all on this
Oh wow, I wish I saw this vid before I ordered the RG353V.. Just arrived yesterday, no complaints so far.. but I have a feeling I'll be upgrading to this eventually to play more gamecube and ps2 games 😅
This device is great. I was gonna hold out and get the ayaneo pocket dmg, but got this day 1 on release and have been very satisfied. I might still grab the pocket dmg though.
I think people get way too hung up on the size. The market is saturated with truly pocketable handhelds, and the only big ones are 16:9 and not comfortable for everyone. Many of us play handhelds at home, where the size makes no difference and comfort is king.
I saw a leaked horizontal version of this and I can’t decide if I want to wait or just get the V! the v seems like the PERFECT handheld for what I’m looking for but no analogue triggers is what gets me😭
Seems to be an issue with the RGCube only. Coz even on my phone (Poco F1) or the Retroid Pocket 3+, when setting a custom launcher on default, it has never reverted back to android default. Glad to see they sorted that out with this one.
I have quite a few ambernics rg35xx plus, the sp and the rg406v and this one is definitely my favourite. I haven't stopped playing it since I got it a week ago 😅
So. As an old ass dude in his 50's that just got his hands on the mini + and the Trimui Smart Pro and loving those! So many good memories. Now with a limited budget, should I get this one or wait for the Retroid 5? Gimme opinions.
@@chide7260 So, as a young ass dude in your fifties, I give you some advise from a actual senior. What's your use case kid? Since you already have a horizontal and a vertical, what generation of gaming is it that you want to replicate? I'm a up to 5th Gen man myself but that's because I'm actually old.
I just purchased one of these as my first handheld emulation device. I'm feeling lost. For the first week, straight out of the box, slapped the SD card in and it worked fine. Now I have to manually select the emulator, only to see "no readable files". I have no idea how to get my games/emulation back. And feel like this is probably something very simple that I'm just being an idiot about.
They could, if they stopped prebundling them with roms. Basically they're choosing convenience above all. I'll make a video going deeper about this one day. It's an interesting topic to explore.
I just got the rg40xx v n you are really making me Want to get this I even have the lenovo legion go but something about these handhelds I just love may end up selling my trimui smart pro
Would you say the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro or RG406V is the better choice? I like the vertical form factor of RG406V and it seems to have better battery life, but RP4P seems to have more power and a slightly bigger screen (I think?). I am deciding on one of them and it seems most ppl are suggesting the RP4P, but I definitely also see RG406V as a competent device too!
I guess depends on games you want to play, especially aspect ratio. It might be that rp4pro has smaller effective screen for 4:3 content, but I don't really know so fo t take my word for it
@Omgtired answered pretty much perfectly. The only thing that I'd add is that it's more of a horizontal vs vertical form factor choice. You need to figure out if you're a vertical or horizontal type of nerd. 🍻
Looks like Fallout New Vegas maybe? Or some Fallout game if you're referencing the game with the green bar at the bottom left and another at the bottom right.
I wanted the 405v But never pulled the trigger... I'm glad I didn't (now) ... I'm gonna get the 406v... I love the design, I like vertical... Big battery... Etc... And I'm not worried about portability... This is definitely the one for me
I can't wait to see your video on the upcoming rg406h (or p or m or whatever will be called depending on materials) however... Please do me a favor and ask anbernic to put a second USB c at least for charging only (or ideally... As a second OTG port). Or at least to enable charging and video out at same time through a stupid splitter, afaik you can't charge the rg406v while outputting video signal and that limits a bit my dream of one only device as handheld and console. I know I know the battery life is pretty good on this thing so the issue is limited, however... Why in the world there should even be, this issue ??
i'm torn between the RG406V and the RG Cube. the Retroid Pocket Mini is close, but it's hard to justify buying that when the RP5 exists. it's just that the RP5 isn't really what i'm looking for. honest opinion - are there are any major differences (besides form factor) that i should perhaps take into consideration? would you highly recommend buying an RG406V over the Cube, assuming i find them both for roughly the same price? or is it going to come down to personal preference? i already have the CubeXX and i love it. but i was really wanting a device that will play Gamecube and PS2 games. sorry if this is too many words to ask "Cube or 406V", but thank you so much for your videos and for reading (and hopefully answering) my comment! love the channel!
NEVERMIND lol, i asked before i got to the part where you compared the system software. gives me something to think about. i didn't think either one used android out of the box. i'd much prefer linux. you answered all my questions and i feel good about buying this one! thanks!
So what would you recommend between this and the RG556? Ive currently got a Smart Pro and love the idea of a big screen as i mostly play PSP and PS1, Gamecube. I just wonder if i can switch from horizontal to vertical? Im so torn.
I haven't tried tbh. Technically, it could work. Still, haven't played with custom Android roms in a long while, here's hoping fresher minds take on this challenge. :)
Look at the bedonkadonks on that fatboy. I'll stick with the Miyoo Mini Vlad. It's just way too damn big man and the available colourways really suck young lad. Great review lad.
Personally, I find it immensely soothing to have everything in one handheld. It just feels neat and clean to me, as opposed to say, traveling and having 3 of them in my backpack. 😄
It depends. I have an Odin 2 Mini Pro but it's not great for 4:3 content. RG406V + Odin 2 Mini + RG Cube is a great combo to play all sorts of retro games!
The 40xxv is gorgeous, I just think that one's too bony, the 406v is the one you can comfortably sleep next to that had the hips to one day bear you children. I don't know why this thing has such a motherly comfort, maybe it's the giant nips🤣

The 406v as first handheld is like getting a Mercedes for your first car👌🏽
Man Vlad, you’re downright giddy about this one! I’ve had my eye on it for a while but your endorsement might be what pushes me to pull the trigger.
Not a bad choice at all for a first! I think your money was well spent. This 406V is a personal favorite of mine.
I want mine to arrive. I ordered it on the 29th (december) and cannot wait. Every day I am binge watching RG406V reviews lol
I think one of your videos made me buy Odin 2 last year and this year this. Nice review..:) 👍

Balatro. I heard they can give out it instead of metadone.
@@FairyPrincess42 How's the battery life young lad?
@@STR82DVD it lasts whole day for light games, if you pay heavy games (ps2 wii gc) around 3-5 hours

Thanks a lot! ❤️
Great video as usual! The 406V is my most played handheld at the moment. At least until my RP5 is delivered.😂😂
Watching this on my new RG406v - just like you, I flipping love this thing.
I have the RG405V, but it's got an issue with weak wifi. I just ordered the 406V during the AE 11/11 sale to replace it, and I'm excited.

I need a comparison between this and the RG Cube.
OK, the decision is made. I’m going to get it. I wasn’t sure which one I wanted to get, but I had my eye on this one anyway thanks for the video.
You're gonna love the RG406V my guy, it's one of my favorite handhelds to date. ❤️

Seems to be an issue with the RGCube only. Coz even on my phone (Poco F1) or the Retroid Pocket 3+, when setting a custom launcher on default, it has never reverted back to android default. Glad to see they sorted that out with this one.
Are the games preloaded on the Sd cards they sell the system with or do you need to download them from somewhere and install yourself?
