Nice! Glad to see this video because I am using this mobo for my new build. I know my way around my BIOS with my Asus Tuf B550-Plus and pretty cool to see that this BIOS is pretty much the same. Either way, can't wait to explore the BIOS on my new build once I get the rest of my parts.

Can you tell me why you refer to flashing the bios as a "flash back" are you flashing the bios back to a previous or older version of the bios? if so, why would you do that? you didn't explain why you would want to go back to an older bios. I have seen this done on some game consoles so that they can be jailbroken but I don't think that is the case here.
The "flashback" term is just a another common name for BIOS Flash. Sometimes the buttons on mobos are actually labeled bios flashback. Here's an article from ASUS calling the feature flashback: www.asus.com/support/faq/1038568/ With regards to your other question, you may want to flash the BIOS to an older version if the newest one you have installed proves to be unstable, has a known bug communicated by the mobo maker, is a BETA version, etc. Hope this helps, and thanks for watching and commenting!
Very nice B550 board. Bought new RAM but had trouble running it at DOCP speeds (3600 CL16). Talked with ASUS support who wanted me to send the mobo in for an RMA. Despite being one month past the exchange period, Amazon helped me out and sent me a new one so I didn't have to wait for the RMA. Set the new board up and everything worked perfectly. Old motherboard must've been faulty in some way. Glad it wasn't my CPU that was the issue, but man dealing with RAM problems is such a nightmare.
I installed this board today and too had weird problems with DOCP, kept trying different slots then tried 1 stick and apply DOCP and it worked so I thought my other stick died or something as I would get boot loop every time I put it on my other stick but I added the other one in after enabling it on my first stick and it worked lol both at 3600mhz now

Goin to try your method and see what happens all this going back and fourth with RAM issues is annoying and funny enough never had this issue before. All my builds have had Asus boards so this is a one off for me. When you installed the one stick of Ram did you put it in the first or second slot on the CPU side?

I hope this gets an answer but, I just finished my pc and after holding the power button for 5-10 seconds, the green light stays solid, it doesn't blink. Does that mean that something is wrong within the computer or is everything good?
Green light is Boot meaning one of your boot drives. Do you get into Windows okay? If not, make sure your drives are seated properly and also make sure your RAM is seated properly.

Your ability to set xmp may depend on your actual cpu as well. Research what memory your cpu supports. Intel isn’t nearly as dependent on ram speed as amd.

Up to you really. Doing it before ensures the CPU you bought or will use works right away, but there's nothing wrong with getting everything together and doing it after. Don't set any XMP or any overclocking just get it all together, install windows, update the bios or update bios first then windows, then after all your drivers and things are up to date set XMP and what not.
Under My Favorites / device config PCIEX16 1 mode it asks for generation. I have a Ryzen5600x and a RTX3070ti. How do you determine the generation ? Thanks
You’ll need to use the renamer tool that will be in the folder. Save tue renamed file to a usb and then you should be able to install. Read any instructions in the site to be sure.
Does it matter if I use a 3.0 usb drive? I have a steady green light. I followed the steps of downloading the latest update and extracted files clicked the rename file it renamed to the .cap file I transferred it to the usb and plugged it into the correct bios port. It’ll blink for a second then stay on the green light.
It shouldn't matter if you used a USB 3.0 Drive. That's all I had and it went fine. It can take up to 10 min for the BIOS to update. Just leave it go and when the light is off on the mobo or whatever, you should be done.
@@MiddleofKnowhere update: it’s been more than 15 mins still nothing but a steady green light. I think I’ll try a usb 2.0 tomorrow and see if that will work

Im trying to set my graphic back to the integrated as it worked better with that, it auto set my grpahics to my gpu after i enabled my sata drive port when installing a new harddrive. Got the harddrive work no problem but i cant keep my graphics the way i want them as it refuses to work with my motherboard hdmi port
I have the same board does it matter if everything is installed on the pc b4 you update the bios this way…I have a ryzen 5600 and was told I would not have to install bios this way but now having trouble…
It should not matter. I've done bios flashback with a fully installed system. If it all works and you can get to the BIOS I'd just update it that way but otherwise yeah the flash button will work fine.
If your CPU has integrated graphics, plug your monitor into the display or hdmi ports on the motherboard. Should work automatically. IF not then you might need to activate it in the BIOS. Only certain AMD CPUs, usually ending in G, like 2600G or 5600G have integrated graphics. Zen 4 CPUs (7000 series) have basic integrated graphics for displaying a signal but nothing you could game on.
Use Bios Flashback on assembled system used for few months or do it via EZflash in Bios? im on version 1202 for this mobo wanna upgrade to 2423 is it safe update straight?
If you have it up and running, I'd just do it within EZFlash. I did use the button on the back on my Dark Hero with the CPU, RAM, and everything plugged in no problems though. I prefer within the BIOS to be honest. It gives more visual feedback than a blinking light lol. Having said that the Flashback is great when you can't get in.

What is your CPU and have you updated your BIOS to most current? 3000 series Ryzen CPUs were really the first to accept 3600 speed ram without issue. Anything older, and you'll be limited.
I am using this mobo with r5 3600 strix gpu is my combination for 2 years i didnt upgrade the bios there is update in asus site but my pc runs smoothly should i update my bios?
If you've noticed no problems, you probably won't need to, BUT some BIOS updates also plug security holes, so if you feel comfortable updating, go for it.
Yes you ought to be able to flash the BIOS with the CPU installed. If you're talking about flashing for compatibility issues though and not just a general update, that I'm not so sure. If the PC already works and you want to update normally, I'd just go into the BIOS and update via the utility.
Couldn't get it to flashback with the cpu installed had to remove it to get the green light to come on, I was getting a Dram light while the cpu was installed
Make sure the usb drive is in the right port. Make sure it’s formatted to fat-32 and if it has multiple directories make sure you copy the file to those directories. Oh and rename the file appropriately if you need to.
I believe you can but I may have missed covering that. I say there is because an asrock board for a current build i made has some rgb controls. It’s very rudimentary.
I have this same motherboard and am new to pc building but everytime I reset or shutdown pc, it always brings me to the motherboard bios not windows on startup? I have to boot override to get it to open windows and then it works fine? I'm not sure if it is a windows setting or motherboard. Didn't know if anyone knew what to do about this?

I looked up the support site to see if there were any updated BIOS releases. And compared to what I had. As for if you don’t have an install first then the bios version might be printed somewhere on the motherboard or instruction manual.
You’re welcome. Just as an example the bios version for the asrock board I recently did a vid on was shown by a sticker on the bios chip. So I knew what I had. Hopefully other boards communicate the bios version similarly but o think I’ve even seen it typed in the board, front or back.
@@MiddleofKnowhere I have the same board you used in the video coming in a couple of days. So I will use your video on how to perform the bios change. Hopefully I don't brick it. LOL
I always assumed Asus didn't provide overclocking instructions because its a liability. As soon as someone bricks their motherboard messing with something they don't understand ( I don't necessarily mean timings ) - ' WeLl i fOlLoWEd yOuR iNsTrUcTIOnS!'
That makes sense. They, like AMD with Ryzen Master, could always have a disclaimer in the BIOS and require you to hit the checkbox and then that's saved somewhere on the bios chip or something where they can then retrieve that info later should you brick the board while oc'ing and rma it. Having said that, ASUS has videos using their software to overclock within windows, but never delves into the BIOS for a manual OC, which annoys me. I don't like the software and want to learn how to BIOS OC.
I love this shaking camera - it brings this realism like in Bourne movies. Lovely touch and goes well with smooth jazz in the background. Can you do more of this ultra real shaking?
Autofocus is giving me a headache, i you use 1 single composition in your video you should turn off autofocus... Should be off anyway if you're not following an object or person
Green is for your Boot led. Can you post and get into the BIOS or Windows? If not, make sure whatever hard drive you're using is plugged in and/or seated properly. Additionally, it might remain on b/c you haven't formatted the drive yet prior to installing windows. Do that during installation. You may have a malfunctioning drive. If you're using an NVMe drive, try a different slot. If it works, it might be a malfunctioning slot. If a SATA SSD or HDD, try plugging in the SATA cable into a different SATA port. Hope some of this helps.
Was really hoping you'd go into the detail of what all those annoying acronyms actually mean. Been beating my head against a rock trying to get decent explanations from the internet, but it's a lost cause. So much of this BIOS is self-referential meta bullshit too. "Oh this is the thing that's incompatible with 'the stilt' EDC tweak." Okay Asus, then tell me what the EDC tweak is so I know not to do it. Oh, you're not going to? I'm supposed to just KNOW what that means? Asus, I don't lurk your dumb overclocker forums. I don't get the reference. I'm just a monkey trying to keep his CPU from automatically setting the core voltage to 1.50v out of the box for no sane reason.
Honestly I don't even know. I'm not an overclocker. I know enough in a BIOS to be dangerous, but that's about it. I agree that ALL mobo makers need better BIOS guides. I've even asked ASUS in their vids for OC guides via the BIOS not their software and they never have.
Excellent comment. It's why it's a tour and really only details how to Update the BIOS, set up XMP, Resizable Bar, PBO(2), and anything else you can set and forget. Simple things most people take for granted or are too timid to try. I explain It's not an overclocking video and that it simply is a tour with some tips. Thanks for the view and comment.

Your ability to set xmp may depend on your actual cpu as well. Research what memory your cpu supports. Intel isn’t nearly as dependent on ram speed as amd.
I’m looking for help!!! I just built my first of yesterday with this same motherboard. While downloading windows 11 I need internet to finish the download but no Wi-Fi is showing… when trying to download the wireless drivers in the bios using a usb it shows the folder but when clicked nothing shows in the folder nor gives me any option to install. Does anyone have any answers or ran into the same problem??
do you think this is compatible with my 5700g im kinda new to pc gaming and just wanna make sure before purchasing
It is, and even if the bios isn’t up to date, you can use bios flashback to update it so the 5700g works.
is there another way to install the bios for a pc that is already turned on ??
Great video!! Thanks for the help. I’m gonna head over to check out your other videos now!!👍🏻
I'm glad it could help! Thank you for watching.
wish my motherboard had bios flash back every time i update my bios on TUF GAMING X570-PLUS (WI-FI) ryzen 5600x my cpu boost get lower there is new update out today but afraid to update AMD AM4 x570 AGESA V2 PI 1.2.0.20b just came out its a beta tho this MB has had over 20 updates since i bought it.
Sir, could you please make a overclocking video for beginners..
I'll look into it. It's something I may attempt. :)
Thanks a lot for the simple and useful guide !
Thank you! Glad it helped. :)
Im bought recently a ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING WIFI II, but the name "Strix" dont light on,
What can it be? How do I call? (Note: Rog's eye is turning on)
Do you lose dual channel if u use all ram slots
Nope you won’t.
Help me
Every time I turn on the PC, I can only enter the system through the BIOS from the boot option, this thing is annoying, logically when I turn on the PC it goes into the system without showing the BIOS
My motherboard asus rog strix b550 f GAMING
I got the r5 5600 and the same mobo when i boot the pc after usb flashback it keeps booting me into bios
Should i do my bios flash before or after i install my cpu?
Up to you really. Doing it before ensures the CPU you bought or will use works right away, but there's nothing wrong with getting everything together and doing it after. Don't set any XMP or any overclocking just get it all together, install windows, update the bios or update bios first then windows, then after all your drivers and things are up to date set XMP and what not.
for some reason, I am not able to save my profile to a USB. It seams simple enough but it never works.
Format the usb drive to fat 32 and make sure it is plugged in before you turn the PC on then try saving. See if that works.
Hi after I did this and restarted the pc now I get black screen
Where it says boot priority for me I have nothing is that normal?
You solved all my questions! Thanks!
That is awesome! Glad I could help. :)
Straight up, I was wondering about the ram setup, how to do the amd cpu thing. Thanks so much! I just got my parts this Black Friday!!
Under My Favorites / device config PCIEX16 1 mode it asks for generation. I have a Ryzen5600x and a RTX3070ti. How do you determine the generation ? Thanks
RTX 3070TI is PCIe 4.0 and the 5600X supports this, so you can set it to that or leave it at auto.
@@MiddleofKnowhere lol. Did not understand the answer but I will set to auto. Thanks
Thankyou so much, new to this pc gaming thing, and was just what I was looking for 👍
Thanks for watching. I’m glad it could help!
So if I have a Ryzen 7 5700x and I need to update the bios I just download the latest ver. And that's all? That easy?
You’ll need to use the renamer tool that will be in the folder. Save tue renamed file to a usb and then you should be able to install. Read any instructions in the site to be sure.
Enabling PBO2 will also rise the cpu temperature?
It’s possible yes because it’s sustaining higher speeds for longer AND I think it’s pumping more voltage through to achieve that.
@@MiddleofKnowhere cool I’m gonna try that now. I’ll give you an update like in 15-20 minutes. Hopefully this works thanks for the reply
@@MiddleofKnowhere update: it’s been more than 15 mins still nothing but a steady green light. I think I’ll try a usb 2.0 tomorrow and see if that will work
Make sure you formate the usb drive to fat 32. Also try to have the renamed bios be the only thing on the drive.
@@MiddleofKnowhere I figured out the issue -_- I was extracting the files on my pc instead of the usb drive. I don’t think the video said that unless I missed it but I found the solution on Reddit
If your box says 5000x ready I shouldn’t have to do a bios should I?
Correct!
So is it alright to have the cpu and stuff installed and flash the new bios or is it safer to just flash the bios before installing anything?
Yeah, it should be alright. I just did what you described with my dark hero.
@@MiddleofKnowhere oh ok
How do I enable pwm on this mother board?
I have red light on top left. solid on. Coulnt figure it ou why. i did usb flashback, check every cable, re-plug rams but still on and pc works great. I have no issue. I only plug 8 pin cpu connector. additional one is empy. and red light is on under it.
Reseat your ram sticks. And If still not working try one stick at a time.
I just bought a ryzen 5 5600 and i replaced my 3300x and my pc wont boot, my motherboard is asus tuf b550 plus bios 0608 should i update the bios to the latest version for 5600?
You might need to yes.
Thanks
Good job, this was helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
I've updated my bios but nothing comes ups on the monitor. Are u supposed to plug the monitor into the GPU or motherboard if it's starting up for the first time?
Plug it into the GPU. Odds are you don't have a CPU with an integrated graphics.
How can I activate the integrated graphics card?
@@MiddleofKnowhere yea i have B550 ROGSTRIX GAMING F motherboard so i have that button too there but i will do it via EZflash in BIOS yea im on version 1202 wanna upgrade to newest possible 2423 which i monitored and waited and it seems from august no updates and it looks like final version of BIOS so i hope i can update it straight to it version 1202 is not oldest tho i heared that from oldest possible BIOS for certain board is not good go straight to newest...i use this board with Ryzen 9 5900X its great board from Asus. And is it neccessary to reset BIOS after updating it? I mean there is no reset but there is function load optimizied defaults so i guess its RESET. I dont change almost anything in bios everything on AUTO and just enabled XMP for my RAM+PBO everything else is on AUTO except PCB-performance core boost.
i have the ROG Strix B550-F wifi
i cant run anything more then a 3200mhz ram xpm only work to a 3200mhz not more even manual overclock
is there any way i can get the motherboard to run a 3600mhz or a 3800mhz ?
What is your CPU and have you updated your BIOS to most current? 3000 series Ryzen CPUs were really the first to accept 3600 speed ram without issue. Anything older, and you'll be limited.
ryzen 5 5600x and i did update the bios still the same issue @@MiddleofKnowhere
What ram kit are you using?
@@MiddleofKnowhere I tried Corsair pro rgb 2x8 and xpg d60 2x8 3600 both didn’t work on 3600 and worked fine on 3200
I tried upgrading to the 5800x from a 3600. I did a bios flashback and only ever got the pc to post twice after that it stay stuck on the dram light
Clear the CMOS and also try reseating the RAM as well.
Thanks for this
I am using this mobo with r5 3600 strix gpu is my combination for 2 years i didnt upgrade the bios there is update in asus site but my pc runs smoothly should i update my bios?
If you've noticed no problems, you probably won't need to, BUT some BIOS updates also plug security holes, so if you feel comfortable updating, go for it.
can I still do the flashback with the cpu in or do I have to take it out?
Yes you ought to be able to flash the BIOS with the CPU installed. If you're talking about flashing for compatibility issues though and not just a general update, that I'm not so sure. If the PC already works and you want to update normally, I'd just go into the BIOS and update via the utility.
@@MiddleofKnowhere so on allready function PC is it better to do it via BIOS utility called EZFLASH???
Couldn't get it to flashback with the cpu installed had to remove it to get the green light to come on, I was getting a Dram light while the cpu was installed
the light stays on for me it blinks for a couple seconds then it stays on
Make sure the usb drive is in the right port. Make sure it’s formatted to fat-32 and if it has multiple directories make sure you copy the file to those directories. Oh and rename the file appropriately if you need to.
I have a 5500G Im pairing with this board it says it ruses 5 ready does this still need a bios flash
You might if the board doesn’t say 5000g ready but maybe not. It wouldn’t hurt to flash
Good afternoon, Please tell me this can be done with Ryzen 5 5600g, and Crucial Ballistix 2x8gb DDR4 memory - 3600 XMP. Thank you very much
Yes, I think you'll be able to set the XMP for a 5600G to 3600.
please tell me you have unpacked the archive, the video shows 2 files, did you copy these two files to a USB flash drive?
Is there some way yo control the RGB with the bios?
I believe you can but I may have missed covering that. I say there is because an asrock board for a current build i made has some rgb controls. It’s very rudimentary.
ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING is it good for ryzen 5 5600x? i need quick information
Yeah it’s a good motherboard for that cpu.
I have never encountered this issue, but check this link out from the ASUS FAQ page: www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1015547/
I hope it helps you and that you can get this solved.
@@MiddleofKnowhere Thanks for replying! I ended up fixing it after messing around in bios long enough, never figured out what did it but just glad it's fixed.
@@annelise305able what did you change in bios? As I have same problem with this motherboard, whatever I want reset/reeboot it will go to bios not windows ;/
I have a ROG Strix B550-A with BIOS version 1805. I haven't updated it since I bought it in early 2021. Are the BIOS cumulative, meaning do I have to only download the latest one? Or do I have to download the BIOS updates in order?
Just the latest one. Make sure though you don't accidentally download a beta bios. i don't trust those and don't use them.
@@MiddleofKnowhere Thanks. I downloaded the latest and the installation has gone smoothly.
Awesome. Glad to hear!
do i need to flash Bios on mine I'm using Ryzen 7 5800X cpu on this board? or is it good to go and just update through utility?
My board was Ryzen 5000 ready out of the box. You should be good if you just bought the board.
hey guys i have all my parts now really tempted and scared too... i was really concerned about the bios update and i am really not sure if i need to update the bios since my asus b550-f says its 5000 desktop ready and windows 11 ready and for cpu i have 5600X if anyone can recommend anything pls do so thanks!
If it says 5000 ready you should be good to go. :) also if you have to update the BIOS at any time it can be pretty Intimidating but it’s not too bad.
@@MiddleofKnowhere thanks alot seth really appreciate it.
You’re welcome. Hope your build turns out great.
can it fully support 5950x?
I believe this motherboard has enough power cooling for the VRMs and Power Delivery for the 5950X.
Excellent content but please hold the camera steady! Nauseating after 5 minutes
Yeah, I hadn't discovered the focus lock yet so it was breathing a lot. Sorry about that.
Αny good video tutorial how to oc the b550 f or e gaming pbo2 or all cores?
How did you know you had to update the bios?
I looked up the support site to see if there were any updated BIOS releases. And compared to what I had. As for if you don’t have an install first then the bios version might be printed somewhere on the motherboard or instruction manual.
@@MiddleofKnowhere Ok great. That's what I was wondering.
LOL
well done
Thank you!
shit i have this exact this board and it don't have the above 4g decoding where yours does
Might not show if you don’t have an rtx 3000 series or amd 6000 series gpu OR if the BIOS isn’t more recent. Not sure.

1. Thanks for the view. 2. It's lo-fi. 3. Bourne is my jam.
@@MiddleofKnowhere good sport!👍😎
I have a constant light man
which light, and does it boot? If it's the RAM light, try reseating your memory.
Autofocus is giving me a headache, i you use 1 single composition in your video you should turn off autofocus... Should be off anyway if you're not following an object or person
i am still having Green light
Green is for your Boot led. Can you post and get into the BIOS or Windows? If not, make sure whatever hard drive you're using is plugged in and/or seated properly. Additionally, it might remain on b/c you haven't formatted the drive yet prior to installing windows. Do that during installation. You may have a malfunctioning drive. If you're using an NVMe drive, try a different slot. If it works, it might be a malfunctioning slot. If a SATA SSD or HDD, try plugging in the SATA cable into a different SATA port.
Hope some of this helps.
Hi I have emailed you for help on this motherboard can you please get back to me thank you
Was really hoping you'd go into the detail of what all those annoying acronyms actually mean.
13:25 Going on so much in here, its not even funny 😂
Wouldn't recommend doing a video if you don't know what you are doing
Excellent comment. It's why it's a tour and really only details how to Update the BIOS, set up XMP, Resizable Bar, PBO(2), and anything else you can set and forget. Simple things most people take for granted or are too timid to try. I explain It's not an overclocking video and that it simply is a tour with some tips. Thanks for the view and comment.
