Update BIOS on ALL Supported ASUS Motherboards: Easy BIOS Flashback Method
Вставка
- Опубліковано 14 сер 2024
- When building a PC you most likely will need to update your BIOS especially if it is a newer motherboard. This should work on any ASUS motherboard that supports BIOS Flashback including AM5. There should be a button on the back panel if yours does. You can update the BIOS without the CPU installed with this method. You do not power up the PC at any point when doing this.
This can be done with or without a CPU installed.

The most common solution to problems updating is to try a different USB drive. Sometimes even a reformat of the USB drive can make a difference. Also, verify the file was renamed.
In this video, we show how to update the BIOS on an ASUS motherboard using the BIOS Flashback method. This should work for most ASUS motherboards including AM5, Z790, Z690, B660, H610, Z170, X299, X570, B450, X670 etc. Pretty much any Intel or AMD motherboard that supports BIOS Flashback. Just be sure that you download the correct version of the BIOS for your specific board.

I'm trying his method instead of the asus method too. Wish me luck! The only difference is that I extracted the files within the USB. What do you think was different in your case?
This is very informational because a lot of videos o ly talk about updating the dang BIOs via inside the ASUS BIOs itself and never works for me that way! Thank you. 👏 👏

thank you, how the hell asus dont have it explain it that way on their website, FAQ etc is beyond me. Dunno why I tought to have a power on while pressing flash BIOS before watching your video
Just upgraded my sons PC turned it on and Nothing. No Picture Detected and None of the Peripherals turn on. The Fans are on and the AIO is on too, (Motherboard Asus B650 plus wifi, AMD Ryzen 5 7600x, Crucial DDR5 4800mhz RAM) Hopefully this will help.
Hard to say but I did a quick look at that board and should support all CPUs. But could be something like the RAM. I would check the support page and check if the exact RAM is verified to work. That is sometimes an issue.
@@KLEEBZTECH thanks for the reply. As you said in the Video the BIOS Flash didn't work first time so I formatted the USB Stick and redownloaded the BIOS Update and this time it worked and the Board RAM light. took both sticks out and just swapped them around and jobs a Good'un. Now just reinstalling Window etc.
When you say “on a fully built pc don’t power on during the process” do you mean don’t flip the switch on the pcu or clicking the button on the case
You only power on the power supply. Do not press power button on the computer to start it up. You need the power supply turned on in order for the motherboard to have power to update.
Does anyone know what to rename the bios file for a Asus Prime B760 D5? I'm working on a mac until i build my PC and cant run the .exe renamer file. Thanks
Hey sir, thanks for this! Small question.
Im flashing Asus TUF x670e plus without cpu and ram. After flashing is done, do i need to take power off, add cpu, gpu and ram? Connect monitor on gpu and fire up pc?
Im missing the step when i need to add component. Sorry for newbie question.
Yes after updating the BIOS turn off the power switch and unplug and assemble the computer
You sir are a gentleman and a scholar.
Well thank you!
But if my board doesn´t have flashback, I am screwed. Because my new Z790 plus wifi came with old FW and my procesor is 14. generation KF. So Asus made such great TUF board ... but forgot to include this crucial function.
Yeah I don't understand why they don't put this feature on more of those boards.
Actually better than asus's guides, thanks!
If I’m building a new pc should I build it after doing the bios update or connect to a monitor and power it up?
I would build it after, this way if you have a 13th or 14th gen cpu it will be accepted.
I could not get this to work........ NO re-namer file, so I change in Windows.
Copy to flash drive.......Never got it to install.
for me, after the bios flashback (3.5 min), the boot up did not just lead to updated bios. I got message saying hold up we need to flash bios before we can continue. It then rebooted a few times before it went into bios with latest version. Difference might have been my bios also included latest ME. Mine was a new build ... with only the bios flashback as the source for the code.
I just find it strange that no one else has mentioned this behaviour.
On rare occasions there can be things that are updated on first boot like that. It is not common.
This feature is only available on specific boards. Not every board has it.
Since a series 7000 motherboard should support the Ryzen CPU without a BIOS update right off the bat, which method would be preferred for the first BIOS update, performing the update via the BIOS utility or the flashback method? Great video, though. Very helpful.
Well that depends on who you ask. Some will say the flashback method should only be when you can't do it the other way. They feel at seeing more feedback in the Bios utility is better. But my feeling is they are really the same. And from everything that I've read from the manufacturers they mention using the flashback as being the easier way. Really it's a matter of choice. I usually would do it on a new-build with the flashback and just get it out of the way. Of course some say you shouldn't update the BIOS unless you have issues but I always do it on a new-build.
Flashing BIOS gives me anxiety. But I will follow this video once I buy my new PC. Thanks!
Understand. It used to for me as well. But honestly it is rare I run into issues these days and when I do it is usually a defective motherboard that gets replaced. Nothing you can do about that.
@@KLEEBZTECHYesterday I finally bought and built my PC. It worked like a charm, thanks!
what do you mean by "if the pc is already assembled" "do not power up"?
You do have to turn the power on to be able to run the bios Flashback or? Can someone explain the nuance ?
Yes you need to turn on the power switch on the power supply but do not boot up the computer.
I'm trying to update my ASUS Strix Z690-E board to allow my i7-13700KF to be compatible. I'm hoping this video helps, thank you! Will subscribe and like.
Hope all goes well. If you have any issues just be aware that these are very picky when it comes to the USB drive. Sometimes you may need to try a different one. The older and smaller capacity usually the better results in my experience.

Can you tell a way, if the usb flashdrive really as Fat32 after doing the process whit Rufus?
I'm using an Asus Z170-A, and there is no bios slot for USB or flash button, I clicked on this video for that exact problem since you put that motherboard in the title lol
Some Z170 boards do support it. It all depends on the model.
Worked like a charm.
Just to make sure I got this straight......I'm going to do my first build within a week. I get the flashing of the BIOS (without anything on the MB)..Great job explaining that!!!! But I've also been reading that you should update the ME driver and FW first before doing the BIOS update. So to me that means installing Windows 11 first with CPU, Memory, Storage, etc., correct? I really want to update the BIOS first because I want to make sure that the MB is ready for my 14th Gen CPU, Mem, Storage, etc). Can I update the BIOS first then build and install Windows 11 and update the ME drivers and FW after that? In what order do I follow the steps?
That would only be if you already have Windows installed. Otherwise you can do it after.
Hi mate after doing the bios update do you restart the computer with just the 24pin connected and check the bios?
is it fine if i have to copy it to my usb drive? it just automatically saved it to my downloads so i copied it over to the usb drive
yup

Can you use this method but instead download the drivers related to lan network/ wifi
If I update just on the motherboard with no additions (GPU, RAM, etc) is it necessary to have my monitor plugged in as well?

I have asus tuf b660 plus wifi d4 ....how can I update the bios without using the 12th gen processor? it looks like my mobo doesn't have any bios usb hub and flashback button...
If it doesn't support BIOS flashback then you would need a supported CPU in order to update your bios.
My motherboard is tuf gaming b550M-E and the motherboard is not flashing it flash for 3 times then it has the ligh of the bios update always on and not turnig off
Have you tried any other USB drives? That is often the issue.
Lets hope this is the reason my 13th gen cpu didn’t work…will try this when i get home , thank you for the amazing video
Good chance. You can always look on the support page to find that info out usually.
hi i have asus rog strix 650E-F now i wait for new ryzen 7900x3D what is better before update bios before inserting a new processor or when instaled new procesor on motherboard and after update bios ?
Using this method it should make no difference.
Quick question, what about Intel ME download before bios? I can't really do it before bios update in my case because I'm building brand new pc. I see one guy already asked but not sure what to do exactly? Windows will automatically update it?
I believe they say to do it before the bios update because if you already have Windows installed you should. Otherwise you should be good.
@@KLEEBZTECH Hey man hope you’ll reply Quick
I have the Asus ROG strix Z690-A Gaming wifi D4 as I put the USB device on my pc on the bios marked on it. And
I don’t see any changes in my bios screen
And then I tried to follow your method..
as I put the usb with the BIOS file I press the little button with a stick and I waited for almost 2 minutes and it didn’t flash and my BIOS screen doesn’t have any changes again.

i have a asus b660-plus-d4 and in the manual it says that i can update the bios via usb but theres no button on the back nor indicator to know which usb to use
They are probably referring to using a USB to update within the BIOS. You do need to be able to boot to the BIOS to do that. I actually am planning on doing a video of that soon but that obviously won't help now.
Very informative!!!!
This method is ok, and I'd use it if I had to, but if you just use the Bios you get a graphical user interface to do this. Then you don't have to do the weird renaming thing. And you get a progress bar too.
The point of this method is if you are building a new computer with a new CPU that isn't compatible without the update, so you wouldn't be able to get into the BIOS initially to update. Otherwise you are correct, updating via the BIOS is the superior method
@@marcusaurelius841 Correct, I got a new card that isn't booting so I need to update the BIOS without a monitor.
I tried this and got a 'Memory Code 00' message, It then refused to boot at all, even after clearing the CMOS, reflashing both BIOS chips etc!
asus z390 e gaming motherboard doesnt have the bios flashback port and button, Motherboard switches on only if the cpu power isnt connected(with cpu power connected it just cant start the psu or anything). How can I flash BIOS without cpu and bios flashback button?
Nothing that you could probably do. I would contact their support. If you can't get into the BIOS nothing you can do.
Thank you for the guidance
Thanks for sharing, very informative. However, if you have a brand new uninstalled motherboard how do you know the BIOS needs updating? Thanks.
There is not always a way to know for sure. But if a new motherboard that has not been on the market for a couple years then likely it has an early version installed. If they improved support for a CPU you are installing it is likely that you will need to update. I personally update to the latest on a new build and then only update in the future if needed.
I have a broken bios flash button on my asus strix 670e-f. Anyway to active the bios flash without the button?
Well... Not that I can think of unless you know a little about electronics. But not something I would try to explain in comments.
Mmmmm I know enough to pretend like I know, but that won’t get me very far here. If you wouldn’t mind letting me know how I can get ahold of you to so you can give me a couple of pointers, I would be happy to sub to your channel with every account in the house. I count about 10 😅 or point me in the right direction would be much obliged.
What if your mb doesn't have a bios flash button? (Asus z170m plus)
Then you would have to do it the normal way in the BIOS. ua-cam.com/video/ThQJR2IK5XE/v-deo.html
btw you can power on the computer, and navigate the BIOS the new Asus motherboard will give picture.
Is this method going to work on Rog strix z790 hero??? Please let me know. I am so confused.
If it has the BIOS flashback button it supports the method.
hi i have mother board asus b350 and i have problem >>>>> the Q-Flash Plus button is not found >>> what i do ??
If there's no Q flash plus button then that probably means your board doesn't support it. Does it have a USB port that indicates bios update?
I have the Z690-A it doesnt have a bios USB or a Bios FLBK button... so what am i suppose to do?
If you can access the BIOS then you can update this way: ua-cam.com/video/ThQJR2IK5XE/v-deo.html but if new build and unsupported CPU there is no way and would need to use a supported CPU to do it.
@@KLEEBZTECH I can't access the BIOs that's the whole problem.
If you fuckup the flashback during, since this is internal can you just restart the process and try again unlike a regular BIOS flash? Or will you brick your motherboard?
If something goes wrong in theory you should be able to do the flashback method and do it again. I have only needed to do it once so really can't say exactly how reliable that is.
My light blinks for a second and light keeps turning on
Thank you for this, perfectly explained! I just put together my new build, it has a i5-1:600k , asus z690-I gaming, ddr 5 and 1tb m. I, is not posting at all, i tried everything except updating the bios, could i use this method to make my 13th gen cpu to run? I don’t have a 12th gen laying around with me to test if that works , thanks again!
ye it should work + you wont do anything bad by trying it
If the motherboard have b660 chipset you have to flash bios for 13 gen to work but as i said this should work
If the motherboard supports BIOS flashback then I would give it a try. Especially with a new build since it is probably outdated a bit.
@@KLEEBZTECH thanks much!
@@tongoso did it work and could u update to the latest version directly?
please answer me.. i just did and flashing ended in 3-4 min on asus b660-A wifi mobo.. is this normal or its too fast to end flashing? should i intall cpu and open pc or need try again? bcs asus on support site says “depending on bios size will completed in 8 minutes”
I just went back and checked the original video in real time and mine took about 3 or 4 minutes for the last two updates I did. I actually flashed it to an older version since it was already updated so I could make the video so I did it twice. Both times were around 4 minutes.
The only format option my usb gets is ExFat... is that okay? or does it have to be Fat32?
That most likely means you are using a drive larger than 32GB. There are ways of formatting a drive larger than 32GB as Fat32 but I do not cover those. It does need to be Fat32.
What are the cases when a USB 3.0 will not work for this? I thought as long as you put the USB 3.0 in a 2.0 slot its fine.
It is pretty random when it comes to this stuff. It's not the same as when you're running the operating system. I'm not sure entirely why. Sometimes it's just a matter of formatting again I have seen solve any issues.
so if the pc is already assembled then all is same we just don't put any power on it and the rest is same ???

Don't boot the computer.
so if it only went like you said flashed seconds and turned to solid green then bios update never worked right?
Most likely not.
What I see at start of video?
"can be done ... with no component such as CPU or RAM".
"for motherboard you will just need to connect 24-pin ATX power".
And after that I see assembled PC, Windows, formating USB-flash...
Where "no component such as CPU and RAM"?!
Works either way. And of course you need a computer that is already working to download and prepare the USB drive.
if you want to manually flash bios without flash back you shouldnt use renamer right?
Correct.
i dont have bios marked port in back.
i think any usb port should do
So I recently changed my settings from Normal to Power Saving in the bios (ROG B660-A) because the 13700k cpu was running way too hot 95-100 Celsius in cinebench r23. It did change the temperature(70-75 C), but it lowered too much the performance and the rgb lights are not turning on anymore. Any changes I make to the bios, like restoring back to default, or change Normal to Power Saving and vice versa doesn’t help to bring it back to Normal. I tried flash ez tool for the newest bios version(no results), now tried this method, flash backed to a previous version and yet no results. Still works like in power saving mode. I would leave it like that, because the performance I get is enough for me, but without rgb is kinda weird…
Strange...
My asus rog won't work with 13500. I did BIOS flashback latest update which went as expected but then I'm getting fans and lights working but nothing in monitor (connected to motherboard since I don't use graphics card)
Why i dont see the green light flashing? I dont know if the Bios is Flashing🤷
If you are in a room with bright lights it may be hard to see the light flashing. Turn off some lights just to see if it is. Does your USB have a light? That you can check as well to know if it is accessing the USB to do the update.

And on top of that, I don't have BIOS Flasback or anything like it. Just USB ports on the back and front. Would be very grateful if someone can point me in the right direction at least!
If you don't have the BIOS flashback feature then you would have to do it within the BIOS itself. You would not rename the file if doing it that way. We do have a video for that method: ua-cam.com/video/ThQJR2IK5XE/v-deo.html
@KLEEBZTECH I can't access my BIOS screen unfortunately. I deleted the boot partition 😞
The BIOS should be able to be accessed even without a hard drive since it is imbedded on the motherboard and has nothing to do with the hard drive. Have you tried mashing the DEL key while booting?
@KLEEBZTECH Yes, I've done all of that with multiple USB ports etc. When I was partitioning the harddrive I was using Linux/MS dualboot and had access to the UEFI Boot Partition. I ended up somehow wiping that. I thought there might be a way to flash the mobo without access to the monitor or keyboard/mouse. Thank you for your fast replies btw!

Hello, I am about to do bios update and some tweaking on my ASUS board and have some quetions :
1. If my system wont boot up due to bad tweaking (RAM settings or other), and i am no longer able to access BIOS, can I possibly just use this method to Flashback bios from USB (same version) ??? Will that work ? I would dodge the CMOS battery /header reset.
2. Lets say I want to go back to previous version of BIOS, if the new one is not stable. Is this still possible with this Flashback USB method ?
I haven't tested on Asus boards if you can reflash the same version. I know with others when I have tried that it doesn't update because it detects the same version. And personally going the other route with the CMOS battery is probably the safer route. As for flashing previous versions you would have to check the BIOS updates and see if any notes about that. I know I have seen some that say you can't flash a previous version after a specific update.
ASUS saying you have to update ME firmware before BIOS update. how..? if I have no OS yet? lol. so confusing.. (starting my ProArt z790 build). can anyone explain?
There should be a download link on the support page somewhere. But that's only necessary if you already have an OS installed. If you don't then just go ahead and install and install it after just like all your drivers
Brilliant … thank you muchly 🤗
You’re welcome 😊
can i get away with using a 256gb stick that i already have instead of a 32gb one?
Only if you know how to partition it so Windows sees it as 32GB. Windows will not format anything larger than 32GB as FAT32.
im stuck on the part where you double click the rename file and click any key to rename it, but when i click any key, the file is not renamed. Am i doing something wrong?

From what I can tell it does not support BIOS flashback and I do not see a button so I would guess not. Looking at the support page it seems you would need an update from a few months ago to run 14th gen and I doubt a new board would have the latest BIOS versions.
@@KLEEBZTECH uh, okay. But I see it has something called Asus Crash free BIOS. Would it work or not?
I have little experience with Asus Crash free BIOS but my understanding is it only works when it detects a corrupt BIOS and you still need compatible components.
Thank you!
You are welcome!
Why does it have to be 32 or less? Will it not work with more?
Windows will not format anything larger than 32GB as FAT32. There are ways but if someone does not know how it is best to just have a smaller USB drive. You could make a partition of 32GB on a larger drive and then format it if you know how.
