I'm working on a video now, and I hope to have it up by Sunday. :) I hope to get back in the groove. 2023 proved very difficult on a personal regarding level regarding many things, but they are slowly turning around. Good luck on your build!
Just bought this motherboard after having some issues with my B450 Pro from Aorus. Awesome review man, thank you so much. You clearly show a high level of knowledge and care about the accessibility and ease of use, value, and the aesthetics of the things you review. I appreciate the effort!
The absolute best guide I have seen :) Especially because he tells everything and it is shown with graphics where and what is. So thumps up from here :)
The retail version comes with a printed manual. I just bought one of these, it seems like a decent board. So far I've updated the BIOS to enable Resizeable BAR on my 3090.
@@NeonT3tra25 straight from nvidia With the ever-growing size of modern game assets, this results in a lot of transfers. Using Resizable BAR, assets can instead be requested as-needed and sent in full, so the CPU can efficiently access the entire frame buffer. And if multiple requests are made, transfers can occur concurrently, rather than queuing. Basically instead of small sections loading and "standing in line to load" resizable bar allows for all to load at once giving a possible performance boost in game I use it and see about a 2 to 10 fps increase give or take some
i just bought this and this is one of the most through motherboard review ive seen of this specific model thank you MOK i didnt even need to read the manual :D
Just got a refurbished one for $100. No risers (used old ones) and no instructions so thank you for the info, especially about the dual channel mode for the RAM. I simply put the sticks in the first two slots, now I have to go back in.
For the TPM In the BIOS, check Advanced > AMD fTPM Configuration > TPM Device Selection and make sure it's set to Firmware TPM (assuming you don't have a distinct TPM chip installed). In addition to first response Disk needs to be GPT format not MBR. It can be changed if necessary. Then after changing you would need to turn off CSM in bios.
Just upgraded from a MSI B450M to wifi version of this board. Looking forward to building it. Case comes in tomorrow. It was really hard to decide on a board.
I hear ya there. Deciding on a motherboard can be pretty tough. It's all about knowing what you need from it, what it can support in terms of drives, I/O, etc., and then Power Delivery and its cooling can be very important too if you're going to put in a demanding CPU. Have fun with your new PC build!
Great review. I already purchased the board and had used the manual to set it up. Your video helped catch a few connection errors, especially using the wrong M2 slot, which eliminated the two SATA ports.
I just ordered this mobo an hour ago but the wifi variant to replace my messed up 2nd hand MSI MEG B550 Unify-X, which has been randomly getting black screens with a 00 debug code and I have no idea what's causing it. I really like this MSI mobo though, it has a power button, reset button and clear cmos button on the mobo along with a debug code LED display and 4 m.2 slots, two of which are pcie 4.0 plus it has 6 USB 3.2 slots on the back, but then again MSRP for this mobo was $300. You are absolutely correct that mobos in this price range even though less expensive then my current mobo, should include the power and clear cmos buttons on the mobo, they should also include the debug code LED display instead of just the stupid debug LEDs that tell you nothing.
I'm planning on getting this board, combined with a Ryzen 5 5600 CPU, on a Black Friday deal in a couple of days. It will be a great upgrade from my current MSI Z170A Gaming M7 board, and a Core i7-6700K Skylake CPU. 😁
Just picked one of these up at microcenter for 150. running a 5700G because I don't want to invest into an old socket. As I suspect the next cpus to be AM5. So far so good. Upgraded from an i7 920 and an MSI 760 Twin Frozr. and what an upgrade that was. So far I have had issues with the old AI Suite III software causing a boot loop. To fix that, I downloaded the AI Suite Uninstaller from Asus. put it on a flash drive and booted to safe mode. I was able to uninstall the software and start installing the new Asus board software without issues. I really appreciate the quality of this in depth video.
Thank you for watching and I'm glad the video was of help. I haven't mucked with AI Suite III since my VII Hero board for my 2700X. I just found it too resource consuming and buggy. The "easy" overclocking would end up creating more crashes than it was worth. In my recent Build video where I used the Strix B550-F I believe I mentioned I didn't install it due to the invasiveness of the software. I'd recommend staying away from it, but the Armoury Crate is decent enough with Aura and other features. You can't overclock or do any of the fan tuning other than some presets, but you can always create a custom fan curve within the BIOS. I did a BIOS tour video for this board as well, it might prove helpful to you.
Thank you s omuch for this Detailed video, I have R9 5950X and Noctua Cooler, I will use for 3D modeling and rendering works, do you think this card can handle this CPU and daily hard works! I'm inthe country you cant find any X570 and this is one of the best option for now. Thank you so much for your answer!
That CPU will be great for work tasks. The Noctua cooler, depending on the model, should work. I recommend a Dual-tower cooler from them. If you're doing 3D modeling, I would suggest an Nvidia 4080 or even 4090 if you can afford it, and if you can wait until Jan/Feb the 5000 series GPUs should be announced making 4000 series, especially used if price is a concern, cheaper especially in the used market. Thank you for watching!
I'm doing a new build and i manage to find a B550-F Wifi brand new for 120 off a private seller online. Considering how much is usually costs, it seemed like a great deal, but no USB-C header :(
That's a good price. If you need a USB Type-c header for a front port on your case there are PCI-e cards out there that can offer it and give you more ports in the back too.
The intel i227V network unit on this mobo is a bit sketchy... i and many other people have had issues with it, if you don't have an ethernet cable that can do 1GB, like if you have an old cable that you put through your house 10 years ago while building it... or a cable that is just a little bad, but works fine on other computers, then it just straight up won't recognize that you even have an ethernet cable and will give you "no ethernet cable connected". Updating the i227V firmware (which is a big hassle, but i tried it anyway) and testing older and newer firmware and windows drivers doesn't make any difference there's just something about the network unit itself. You can solve this by manually setting it to duplex 10/10 Mb then setting it back up to full duplex 100/100 Mb, but you have to do that every single time you restart your computer or even after going back from sleep mode. Normally the network cards just detect these things automatically but for some reason the one on this mobo is wonky. If you get yourself a new fine ethernet cable it'll be fine though, but still, it shouldn't be like this. Other than that I'd say it's a pretty fine motherboard specially now that the price on it has come down a little bit, earlier market price from a year ago was a bit too much for this kind of board i'd say.
Dang that sounds like a hassle. I’d almost recommend an inexpensive pci Ethernet card at that point. You’d think ASUS would have fixed this or come out with a revision using a different NiC solution
Thanks for the video! Super helpful! I just bought this board - However, I just realized that it doesn't have a usb 3.2 header for the usb c on my Lian Li 216 case... Do I need to buy an adaptor to address this? Any recommendations?
Check these options I've linked. amzn.to/3RU0DwL One definite option is to add a PCIe card with an internal Type-C connector on it. You can then connect your case type-c cable to it. It also has the added bonus of additional rear ports (usually). This one for example has additional rear ports and 2 front internal type-c ports so you can connect your case and get more in the back. amzn.to/3RU0DwL
hoo thank you, i'm building a new pc (lastwas 11 years ago) and this is my motherboard of choice, now i have a better overview of everything need to know, i have to flash because it will run a 5800x3d on with a 6950 xt
First, thanks for wathing! As for your question, I really like the AsRock B650 LiveMixer motherboard. It's currently around $150. It has a fun design and a load of features. At the $189 price point There's an ASUS TUF, Gigabyte Aorus AORUS ELITE AX V2, and another ASROCK board that are probably worth looking into. It all depends on the features you need but I think the LiveMixer (also did a review on it) is worth looking into if you don't mind the loud color design.
It may not have a TPM connecter but FTPM "Firmware Trusted Platform Module" enable should be in the Bios settings along with secure Boot. I have just built 2 PC's using the ROG Strix B550 E & B550 XE Mobo's & enabled those 2 settings in the Bios & Confirmed that both my builds are Windows 11 ready.
Ive just bought this board along with 5800x + rx6700 as a Christmas gift, hope its a big improvement on his gigabyte h110 i3 6th gen, + 1060 setup. fingers crossed he's happy. good vid
Intel i225-v nic has known issues on earlier versions. The B550-F uses it and there are reports of poor Ethernet speed. I have seen “things to try” but the only fix is using the 3rd revision of the nic. To sure how to verify the revision by looking at the box before you buy.
Mine supported Ryzen 5000 out the box. Just look for a sticker on the box. I think eso h time has passed you should be okay. If it does need a bios update I have a video on using q-flash for the board.
It's an option for the BIOS flashback, you can have one installed, but when you don't it's usually when the motherboard's current BIOS won't support the CPU so you need a newer one before installing said CPU. For instance let's say this motherboard supports Ryzen 3000 and 5000 series CPUs, which it does, but the current BIOS on it was older when Ryzen 5000 hadn't come out yet. Installing the Ryzen 5xxx CPU won't work and the motherboard won't post. In this instance you'll want to use BIOS flashback, not have the CPU or RAM installed, and then install the BIOS that brings Ryzen 5000 compatability. The second scenario is, you have your CPU and RAM installed, the computer boots as normal but the newest BIOS fixes things, adds more compatibility and you want to update, then you can update as normal -- install the new BIOS on a flash drive use the BIOS utility ASUS makes you use to convert file, insert flash drive, reboot into BIOS, then update. Hope that helps.
Thank you for such a detailed review. With this board is it best to use high end headphones in the back port or front port? Is there no difference or is it also affected by my case?
Thanks for watching. My advice for your headphones is to use the rear audio ports. They tend to have cleaner sound. As you guessed it, a case's front audio can affect overall sound quality.
If the B550 Tomahawk is 50 bucks less than the ASUS, I think I'd recommend the MSI all day. Just compare the two to see how they differ. I love loads of USB ports so, for instance, if the ASUS has more, I'd go with that as that suits my needs. Basically, know what you need, then take each board and their respective prices into account. Sometimes you have to pay more to get more, but if you don't need more then go for the cheaper option.
I'd say the motherboard is still good yes. Has loads of rear i/o, good internal i/o and supports a variety of cpus, including that 5600x. The GPU/CPU combo you have going will fit well with this motherboard, and if you can afford it, you could upgrade the CPU to a 5800X3D, 5900X, or even a 5950X depending on your budget/needs.
You can. However, updating it without it installed is sometimes necessary if the motherboard's CURRENT BIOS doesn't support your CPU. For example, I buy a B550 motherboard and it has BIOS 1.0 installed. It supports A and B CPUS. Then C CPUS are released and a BIOS update to 2.0 is required for compatibility with CPU C. If I buy that motherboard and it still has the original BIOS (1.0) installed the computer will not work after installing CPU C until the Update is made. This is why being able to update a BIOS prior to CPU installation using the BIOS flashback button is so important. After you have a BIOS installed compatible with your hardware you'll be able to install everything get the PC up and running and then update the BIOS with the CPU installed no problem. Updating without CPU or RAM installed adds flexibility and is just another method. Hope this helps.
@@MiddleofKnowhere i understand now, thanks. Well, my pc is 2 year old now, i just bought 2x8gb ram cuz i had only 2x8gb (so now i have 4x8) but the 2x new ram not working properly, thats why i want to update my bios, maybe its will fix the ram problem.
Brand new yes the motherboard comes with m.2 screws. Mine did not since I bought it used and the person didn’t Include everything which is why I had to buy an m.2 screw kit.
tysm for this video! this is probably a stupid question (as I'm building a pc for the first time) but would I need to buy a wifi card for this motherboard?
You should be able to with a PCIe card. Have a look at this card here to see if it's something that would suit your needs. It has 3 type-c ports on the back and one to connect your case type-c header to: amzn.to/3JoNyVt
Hi thanks for a great review . Despite the lack of articulation in the intro - I nearly skipped the whole video thinking, "Can't make out what he's saying." I'm glad I didn't. Cheers :)
Fantastic video! I am doing a build and trying to compare the ASUS ROG Strix B550-A (white) with the MSI B550-A Pro Proseries, which would you recommend?
I've Used the MSI B550-A Pro before and it has loads of features, like Front and rear USB Type-C that the B550-F doesn't (only rear). Both are slick boards though, so really comes down to what all you need. If you need a front type-c port for a case that has it, then the Pro all the way. I think they both perform comparatively when it comes to Power Delivery and RAM compatibility.
@@MiddleofKnowhere Thank you for the insightful reply! I think I'll go with the Strix if I use a white case and the MSI if I use a black one, we will see lol. Cheers!
Great video and amazing levels of detail. Thanks for that. I have been using this motherboard for a few years now and have recently decided to upgrade my storage of 500gb SSD by adding a 4tb M2 4.0. Unfortunately I can't get it to work. Once the M2 is installed it only recognizes that and ignores the old SSD where I have my OS installed. I did read on the manual that if the M2_2 slot is populated the SATA 5 and 6 are disabled but that is not my case as I have it on the 1 slot and using SATA 1 and 2 for my old SSD and a HDD. Any ideas?
Make sure the boot order for your drives is still the same. If you didn't reshuffle anything, like move the OS m.2 to the lower one and put the new m.2 into the upper slot, then it shouldn't be an issue. In the bios though you can set boot priority, so maybe something happened there?
Great video thank you for sharing, Would you say that this is the best bang for the buck still today for the black friday deals? I have been looking at mobos for 2 days and I am almost settled on this one. wwhat is the difference between all these rog A through f models with this mobo?
Ive bought it today for $150, my only concern is if there wont be any ethernet problems as many ppl have encountered (mainly on the older versions). A and F is only a color difference and the RGB logo on the F.
@@luk3149 Thank you for your response. What would be your under 180 pick for the best b550 mobo today for the black Friday sales? Pairing with a amd ryzen 5 5600?

There are 6 fan headers on the board. You’ll either need a fan splitter, a hub, or daisy chained fans to get 7. Two or three fan splitters are relatively inexpensive.

Dang that sounds like a hassle. I’d almost recommend an inexpensive pci Ethernet card at that point. You’d think ASUS would have fixed this or come out with a revision using a different NiC solution
Great in depth review.
Much appreciated! Thank you for watching.
Hi good vid i found mine for $109 USD on amazon mine is the ASUS ROG Strix B550-F Gaming no wifi and it was cheap
Nice!
Thanks for the video! Super helpful!
I just bought this board - However, I just realized that it doesn't have a usb 3.2 header for the usb c on my Lian Li 216 case... Do I need to buy an adaptor to address this? Any recommendations?
Check these options I've linked. amzn.to/3RU0DwL
One definite option is to add a PCIe card with an internal Type-C connector on it. You can then connect your case type-c cable to it. It also has the added bonus of additional rear ports (usually). This one for example has additional rear ports and 2 front internal type-c ports so you can connect your case and get more in the back. amzn.to/3RU0DwL
hoo thank you, i'm building a new pc (lastwas 11 years ago) and this is my motherboard of choice, now i have a better overview of everything
need to know, i have to flash because it will run a 5800x3d on with a 6950 xt
Best vídeo on UA-cam 👍
how much normal fans can i plug in
Just bought a B550 F Wifi II and paired with a Ryzen 7 5800x and iced it with a '22 Zotac 3050 Twin Edge. Brilliant.
@Broadlight how is this treating you bro I just bought the same but a 5800x3D I’m excited to build on the weekend
Thank you for the thorough review. If you had to buy a motherboard in the same range today, what would it be?
Where is the best VRM power supply? ASUS ROG Strix B550-F Gaming or Gigabyte B550 AORUS Elite V2 ?
This is a great video!!
Thank you!!
how do i install wifi? or is it preinstalled?
My usb c only seems to charge things anyone know how I can use it to connect my oculus?
Best explanation of this motherboard I’ve seen
Thank you!
Ive just bought this board along with 5800x + rx6700 as a Christmas gift, hope its a big improvement on his gigabyte h110 i3 6th gen, + 1060 setup. fingers crossed he's happy. good vid
That’s a very nice upgrade!
MSI B550 GAMING EDGE WIFI VS MSI MAG B550 TOMAHAWK VS ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING
WHICH ONE U SUGGEST FOR GAMING?
Should I get the one with built in wifi or the normal one
That really depends on your needs. If you don’t need wifi because your motherboard will be connected to your modem or router, don’t worry about it.
Intel i225-v nic has known issues on earlier versions. The B550-F uses it and there are reports of poor Ethernet speed. I have seen “things to try” but the only fix is using the 3rd revision of the nic. To sure how to verify the revision by looking at the box before you buy.
What screwdriver is required to unscrew the part for the ssd on the motherboard? I am currently really struggling to unscrew the screws
A very tiny philips. PH0 I think.
Does it support the Ryzen 5000 series or do I need to update bios
Mine supported Ryzen 5000 out the box. Just look for a sticker on the box. I think eso h time has passed you should be okay. If it does need a bios update I have a video on using q-flash for the board.
Awesome thx!
Really great video, thanks!
One thing caught me off guard though, you say you cannot have cpu or ram installed when using Bios flashback?
@@MiddleofKnowhere That cleared it up. Very nice of you to take the time to explain, many thanks!
Glad to help!
Can I connnect instead on aio to cpu option? just to keep cables clean
This board or save 50 bucks and get msi tomahawk b550?
If the B550 Tomahawk is 50 bucks less than the ASUS, I think I'd recommend the MSI all day. Just compare the two to see how they differ. I love loads of USB ports so, for instance, if the ASUS has more, I'd go with that as that suits my needs. Basically, know what you need, then take each board and their respective prices into account. Sometimes you have to pay more to get more, but if you don't need more then go for the cheaper option.
hi bro does this motherboard still good in 2023 and for like two more years with the rx 6750xt and r5 5600x
So i cant update my bios if the Cpu is in? Why? Can someone explain to me?
Well, my pc is 2 year old now, i just bought 2x8gb ram cuz i had only 2x8gb (so now i have 4x8) but the 2x new ram not working properly, thats why i want to update my bios, maybe its will fix the ram problem.
does it come with m.2 screws
Brand new yes the motherboard comes with m.2 screws. Mine did not since I bought it used and the person didn’t Include everything which is why I had to buy an m.2 screw kit.
tysm for this video! this is probably a stupid question (as I'm building a pc for the first time) but would I need to buy a wifi card for this motherboard?
Thanks for watching. You won’t need a wifi card if you can connect an Ethernet cable to the computer.
I got this board on sale, too bad it doesn’t come with type c.
Is there way to add usb c to the motherboard since my case includes it ?
You should be able to with a PCIe card. Have a look at this card here to see if it's something that would suit your needs. It has 3 type-c ports on the back and one to connect your case type-c header to: amzn.to/3JoNyVt
Anyone know what the difference is between this board and the Gaming 2 version?
I have B550 F gaming wifi motherboard. My motherboard stopped reading my RAM after Bios update. What could be the issue?
Hi thanks for a great review . Despite the lack of articulation in the intro - I nearly skipped the whole video thinking, "Can't make out what he's saying." I'm glad I didn't. Cheers :)
Was the volume of the audio just too low for you? thank you for watching though. I'll work on getting that audio up.
If I have a Ryzen 7 3700 , do I HAVE To update the bios?
Nope you won’t.
Did anyone else have to do a bio update for this board so they could use a Ryzen 5 5600x?
@@jaybourbon8608 Rog Strix B550-F/A or MSI B550 Gaming Edge/Tomahawk. Ive bought the Rog Strix B550-F gaming today and 5600 a couple of days ago :), just ram left. Strix has a lot going for it - great vrm and cooling, top end b550 audio, one of the better rear I/O in its price category, 2 m2 heatsinks and great looks.
@@luk3149 I was between that one as well. Very cool. My last Asus Maximus hero vi has gotten me past the last 10 years until now with no issues. I'm so far out of the loop on technology I've been reading non stop for a week now trying to get ready for this sale and I missed the Amazon 5600 deal and also a few others. I did catch the msi mech Radeon 6650 xt oc deal at Newegg for 250 though. Now I'm 1 piece of the puzzle closer. Do you have a new build on pc part picker to save me here from this insanity of looking every model date up? Everything I buy has to be best price per performance without sacrificing performance while future proofing as good as I can. I've seen some decent builds but nothing that made me want to invest in them. You seem like a very knowledgeable person who looks for price per performance as well.
Hi sir, can u please tell by any chance how to connect 7 fans to this motherboard without a usb splitter, only 7 fans none of them is a cpu cooler
There are 6 fan headers on the board. You’ll either need a fan splitter, a hub, or daisy chained fans to get 7. Two or three fan splitters are relatively inexpensive.
so i can't plug in a tp link antenna in the back?
This version of the board does not have integrated wifi, no. You can get a PCIe Card, USB WiFI stick, or get the WiFi version of the motherboard: amzn.to/39mwvFQ
@@MiddleofKnowhere so a tp link usb adapter wifi antenna won't work?
It will. I’ve used those before including on this mobo when doing updates after windows install.
should i get amd 7 5700x with this motherboard
That would be a good fit yes.
does it have bluetooth?
There is a wifi (with Bluetooth) version available.
Do you have to install the drivers in order to use the built in Wi-Fi
Drivers should install with windows install but yeah you might have to get the proper drivers from the motherboard's support page.
whch one will you prefer with ryzen 9 5900x for 3d simulations and rendering
