I love this idea. An easy way to have had a hole already in the bottom would have been to put an oiled piece of tubing in the cement where the hole would be or some kind of plug you can knock out after the cement dries.
Your going to give the guys doing aquariums some competition! Yes they use small pieces to put holes in ... fabric soaked in cement & draped over Balloon or beach ball. I do recall they used sand to keep keep an inner bowl from sticking. It they start with a mound of sand & press cement onto it. I love the one made from a drink tumbler! You really got the juice going again! Thanks Robbie!
Do you mind sharing who you purchased your Solar Pump from? I purchased mine from Amazon, but it only worked about 3wks.. and then nothing😢 I loved my bird bath and miss it so! But $30 for a solar pump every 3wks isn't feasible. Please advise!
overall I love your creativity and the willingess to just plunge in and try something new.... this was a lovely project. one tip to make it easier - next time put a small piece of wood where you want that hole for the tube. - like a branch or a piece of a pencil or plastic tube you will use later for the fountain. that tube could stay in place. or wrap it in plastic and it will pull out easily once the concrete is set. easier and safer than drilling
I already have my bag of cement!! Hubby has made me a few small ones but I want to do one like you've done here. I agree on the ridges. Gives them someplace to stand. Robbie, I adore your gentleness and the way you always say it doesn't have to be perfect. How did you ever get so smart? I always look forward to your videos. Please don't ever stop showing us your joy. Thank you from San Antonio.
Any idea on the size tubing I need to order? I have everything else to make this and would love to make it before winter comes, but I cant figure out the size aquarium tubing to order, help lol
great video! if you take it out of the mold/bowl the next day while the cement is still somewhat soft you could put grooves in with a skewer or other tool and skip the hot glue gun part. another possiblity would be to line the greased bowl with a hosta leaf so the veins would provide the groves and give a nice pattern. great observations on type of water flow the birds love! can't wait to make one or two.
Thank you so much! I too love watching my birds enjoying themselves. I love this idea. I have made a couple that are more like a waterfall into a 12" plastic planter base. The stream comes from 6" to 8" above the base and flows down a flat rock. The base is large enough so I watch Robins bath there occasionally..
I've had so much fun & learned a lot about economical birdbath ideas watching your videos. Stumbled upon them purely by accident, but I'm so glad I did. You're ideas are so clever! Thanks for sharing your knowledge, Robbie! (P.S. My Mom's name was Robbie also, & she was an avid gardener as well)
I'm so glad you showed how to make the cement bowl. I've seen it so many times and I thought it was solid cement. That's so easy I might try it. Thanks
Great idea, my first cement birdbath is still going strong at 12 yrs, without any reinforcement, but it's great that you thought of it. Enjoy all of your ideas!
First before I lose you with my praises...do you having any kind of hanging solar fountain? A gallon of water weighs eight pounds so it might not be feasible? Okay...now for the praise! Started searching for bird fountains and saw yours using solar panels. I absolutely love them all! I just ordered a bunch of pumps with solar panels and am so ready to start making my own! Our area in the deep south tip of Texas has birds all year around and we’re also right in the middle of the migratory path as we border Mexico. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful videos! Birds, hummingbirds, bees and butterflies will surely be doing the happy dance in my yard!
I will work on that, I have them up on post and tables and More with more fun ideas to come. I plan on getting more on solar fountain kits up very soon, thanks so very much, take care, Robbie
I'm a newbie and I'm obsessed! I live in northeastern North Carolina where our summers bring my favorites..the hummingbirds. Thanks so much for your ideas. I'm heading to pick up my bag of Quickcrete this afternoon. That's going to be lots of fun! Thanks! God bless ya! 💗
I made a fountain like this, but very few birds use it. I’m going to make another one using gold panning pans as the mould with the pump in the bowl, held down by several rocks. The water will pool in the bowl and I think the birds will use it that way. 🤔🤓
My gosh that was so easy to make. Thank you so much for showing us how simple this is to make. I will definitely make some of these. You have the best ideas!
Robbie, I LOVED this video! I've wanted to work with cement for my garden and it's so itimidating I've held back. But you're enthusiasm and willingness to dive right into it has given me courage and I want to make a bird bath like this! Please do more garden cement videos, it's so fun to watch and learn!
Beautiful Miss Robby ! I bought my solar pump like yours. I think I’ll give this a try . Thank you for sharing your process. I learn so much from you both❤️🙏
Oh My gosh Robbie, you just made my day! Watching this idea of yours is making my jump around preparing materials needed for this project! Thank you for sharing .
Robbie! I love ya. I adore ya. I love your ideas and you inspire me every day... You need a pop filter, LOL. You can even make one! DIY audio pop filter. I know a lot of your videos are impromptu but my pets are freaking out every time you say a "P" word, LOL. Thank you for all of these videos! I've got my solar fountains on-hand and am heading to the store to get concrete tomorrow - All because of you!
@@RobbieAndGaryGardeningEasy I hope I didn't sound too harsh when I orthogonal commented! The most important thing is that you keep making these beautiful, cheerful videos! I'm so glad I found your channel. You've already inspired me to get two hummingbird feeders, a regular bird feeder, a fountain, and I'm in the process of making a concrete fountain! I thought you used a mic already but if not, oh well. It's obvious you know what you're doing and that everyone loves you! I absolutely adore you and can't stop sharing your videos and telling everyone about "Robbie in Southern California"! Sorry for the long reply! Thank you for responding! You've made my day!🤗🥰🌻🐦
Thank you for this video. I put out a humming bird feeder this year. First time. I never saw anything until 8/23/20. I logged my sighting on a website and while there I noticed about 3 other sightings in the area. But very few. I was so excited that I happened to be in the yard when 2 came by to eat from my feeder. It is hanging in a tree. I thought for sure since the feeder had been out since June, I was never going to see a hummingbird. I watch all your videos and I am on a mission to have lots of hummingbirds like you Haha!!! So after watching a few of your videos and your amazing ideas for fountains I am thinking it is just a matter of time before I have lots of those little creatures. I guess I need to be patient. I also have other bird feeders in my yard. And this is my 2nd year and I get a lot of beautiful birds. I think the birds let other birds know where the food is. They seem to feed in groups. It's amazing to see some standing on my garage waiting their turn. What a cool thing to see. Thank you so much for sharing your ideas and expertise about the humming birds. I live in Michigan so they are just passing through. If I could have nests , wow how cool would that be? 🧡
Oh my goodness! When I saw this fountain on one of your other videos, I thought you had bought this at some expensive garden center! I had no idea you made it until I clicked on the link you had attached. I definitely want to make some of these. My hot glue designs won't be as cool as yours but I'm definitely going to make some. Thank you Robbie!!
I absolutely LOVE your channel. I only discovered it about 10 days ago and I’m playing catch-up trying to watch all your videos. I have learned so much from you about composting, gardening and bird feeding. Thank you and please keep those videos coming. 😍
Robbie, I just LOVE your channel and subscribed a couple of weeks ago when I stumbled across it one night. Your tutorials are just brilliant and fun to watch and I learn SOOO much! Plus your enthusiasm is a delight and the videos always make me smile. Thank you so very much for your everything not the least of which is your generosity of spirit! 😊👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻💕💕💕
I think it might be possible to make the hole first before you dry the cement so you dont have to drill into it. I'm going to try that and I'll let you know if it works. I love this idea.
This is awesome! I have always admired the ball fountain that you have and have even asked you about it. Now I have a new project to do this week. Thank you Robbie for your videos. Take care!
Wow... such an inspirational video! Wish I had all the supplies to make one today! Love it. Shared to my DIL as she watched one with me when you made the coffee container fountain. This one is way better and so creative!!!🤩
Thank you for another awesome video!! I have tubing, 2 pumps coming & I’ve been trying to get the rest of the stuff from one of your other videos - the chip plate/ bowl but I’m going to get some cement in the morning & try this idea!!! I really liked this!! It is hot hot hot in AZ & the 3 hummingbirds & few birds we have need water - so I’m going to try & attract more hummingbirds with fountains & desert friendly flowers. All my seeds DID not come up from April/May planting. Terrible soil - so new potting soil & plants this week!! Thank you again Robbie!
Hi Robbie, new subby here. You and Gary are so inspiring. Just ordered several solar pumps. Will be making one of the concrete pumps and others you have demonstrated on your site. Hugs to you and Gary💕
