That’s not a silly question…Tradition would have a rebar or wire armature, which is the structure of the statue. In my case, that was a Cardboard armature, which has no structural value, even with the cement being added. I have chosen to utilize textile reinforcement and I can assure you the statues that I made back in 2009 or still with us today and strong as ever and will continue to be. Rebar and wire can rust and weaken overtime. The textile reinforcement that I’ve utilize will be here for hundreds of years.
Thank you. I want to create statues, large ones for outside. I did make a six foot shark for my grandson, about thirty five pounds, but not weather worthy. Jim, Just found your videos earlier this morning. Very interesting 'sculpture creation' videos. Most surprising is the materials and methods you've used to make your sculptures. I'm curious. Any idea how many screws you had to used for each one of your large Moai statues? Also, by chance, are there shorter screws available that could be used in these constructions? I'm guessing, all the stones shone in the background around your residence, were made by your company. Really enjoyed watching both of your Moai statue videos this morning. Very unique process! Thanks You, Jim Dasher Spectrum Graphics Seattle metro
Thanks for the positive feedback and I appreciate you watching my video. We use about 2 pounds of inch and a quarter drywall screws and yes there are probably shorter screws that could be purchased. These are just handy at Lowe’s and inexpensive. . All the different rock and stone features that you’ve used in the video weren’t my home… I was shot in our manufacturing plant. Although when I place the statue, that’s outside my shop at home.

I translated your message into English and I appreciate your kind feedback and the fact that you are already making cardboard items which is really cool. Not to mention that you’ve made a House in a small car as well. Well thanks for sharing.
@@fauxrock: Wait a minute. Technically you are sculpting, just using a cardboard medium to do so. And, not necessarily more skills, just different skills. I guessing, what you do could also be easily done with styrofoam, it would just be more messy.
@jayedwin98020: I think you’re a bit confused… in sculpting, one starts out with a block of material and chisels the way to the end result, such as like what Michelangelo… the process that I’ve used is the reverse of sculpturing. I started with nothing… Starting with just a small scrape of cardboard cut and screwed together, One piece of cardboard at a time until my creation emerged. From there. I still had to add a mixture and texture it, stain and seal it, all. The reverse of sculpturing is a whole different type of talent. Thanks for your feedback. I appreciate you watching my video.
@@fauxrock: By definition, sculpting is a far broader area than just the one type of sculpting Michelangelo has done. FYI: "Sculptors use additive and subtractive techniques to create sculptures. Additive means to bring materials together, while subtractive means to take away from the base material. Four main techniques exist in sculpting: carving, assembling, modeling, and casting." No confusion here. What your sculpting is, is "additive", and definitely considered to be a type of sculpting, even if you're only adding cardboard and cement together. Your net results is definitely a sculpture.
@jayedwin98020: in reviewing this matter, I will apologize for my condescending, sounding reply to your sculpture line…. I always hate it when I learn something I don’t know the hard way I stand corrected. My good sir humbly, so thanks so much for your positive feedback I appreciate your time.

Thanks I appreciate that positive feedback in the time you took in watching my video. As far as the 20 footer, I’m still looking for a customer that wants a statue that big. 13 1/2 foot or is the biggest so far.
Well it was very rudimentary and archaic methods that they use to hand, carve and chisel the statues at a real stone. The current process that I’m using it’s very simple and quick and inexpensive.
I do not currently have any need to hire additional staff, instead I would strongly suggest that you always work for yourself. Build so statues and put them up for sale. Thanks for watching my video.
The nose, mouth and ears are all wrong in relation to the actual Moai on Easter Island. The top of the head should be flat to accommodate the pukao (topknot).
Your work is quite impressive on its own merits. However, I have the worlds smallest completely intact Moai in the world at 19 inches, dwarfing the previously smallest Moai in the world at the British Museum. It is a scaled down version in perfect proportion to the best preserved ones on Easter Island. Mine includes the Pukao (topknot) made of Red Scoria. Everything is perfect including the birdman and other carvings on its back. So, it was a bit difficult looking at your head pieces. I do question why you do not outline the entire body of the Moai instead of just the head.
Absolutely amazing. I worked in the concrete business for a long time. I'm seriously surprised this worked, and now I want to try it. Thank you so much for posting this.

Yes, it is very possible…Email me at info@fauxrocktraining.com or you can call me on the WhatsApp for free at 971-237-2957
I always prefer a phone call cause I can articulate exactly what I can do for you .
Thanks for watching my video .
Oi Victor … vc sabe como ele fez essa “fiber mold” ?
@cfcesarfilho yes I do… I’ve made hundreds of them
Your website is spelled incorrectly in the video
Do you sell these cardboard forms? I couldn’t find it on your website.
Yes, I do sell the Templates and have since 2009… I never put them on my website the only marketing I’ve done Ford is the UA-cam videos that you watched on my channel. You can call me at 971-237-2957 or email me at info@fauxrocktraining.com.
just a thought : instead of taping and coating, wouldn't it be more efficient to put shrinkwrap over the cardboard construction ?
Yes, and no… it could be a good thing and protecting the cardboard from getting wet but at the same time it would make applying the mixture slippery area to try and stick to.
Thanks for your feedback I appreciate watching my video .
How do you get a template? Awesome art!
Thanks for your kind feedback… I really appreciate you taking your time to watch my video.
It’s probably best that you give me a call to order. My number is 971-237-2957 or you can email me at info@fauxrocktraining.com
Is that actually mud or some king of clay?
Seeing this a giant Talos head from JASON & ARGONAUTS would look great, would you consider making that?
it's not heavily detailed, probably the helmet being the toughest part
Actually, we do use a small portion of clay in the mix…
I’m not sure if I would make that head or not because I don’t recall what it looks like .
Thanks for watching my video
@@fauxrock there us plenty of research material available
if I had enough- polystyrene I(which is what I would probably use) I would attempt it myself or maybe papier mache, it might be possible to use card board but it wouldnt be very durable
@nigeldonaldson1647 that would be awesome… thanks for watching the video
@@fauxrock I admire your daring for making something in this scale, when you need to move to materials such as- papier mache, polystyrene, house insulation foam etc, sky's the limit
@nigeldonaldson1647 thanks again. I appreciate your feedback and watching my video.
Looks cool. Did you use stucco to cover the cardboard?
No I don’t use concrete or mortar mixture I make a fiber reinforce cement composite is extremely lightweight and strong.
Thanks for the positive feedback and I appreciate you taking the time to watch my video.
Can you teach us the mud mixture?
I do teach on the formulation of many different mixes through my hands-on training or my DVD home course
The website on screen is mistyped.
Thanks for your feedback I appreciate you watching my video. How about 20 people tell me about the website misspelling and I keep saying the same thing I can’t take the video down it’s producing.

Very nice art ......
Well, thank you for your kind feedback and the time you’ve taken and watching my video.
No mesh layer between the concrete and cardboard? Doesn't the concrete crack and break off like that?
Made hundreds of these Easter island statues and not one of them has any mesh and are still structurally sound and serving their pre-determined application. Although I will say if the mesh was incorporated, it would be even stronger.
Я хотел такое делать из газобетона,но посмотрел ваше замечательное видео и вы меня переубедили на картон,но я ещё добавлю стеклосетку.Спасибо за идею

This is incredibly inspiring, particularly the Easter Island head project. On your website the most recent classes were in 2018. Anything planned for this year?
Thanks for the positive feedback… I appreciate you watching my video.

Silly question....you dont use structure supports like rebar or wiring to keep it together????
I would like to make something similar to what you did on a very tight ssi kind of budget. Looking for options. Have a very nosy neighbor on horseback even trying to deter. That or making storks with goggles looking back at her kind of mindset right now. Thank you for info.

Very cool. I believe your website is misspelled in this video.
Yes, that’s recently been brought to my attention. Unfortunately I’d have to take the video down to fix it I believe and I just have to let it go. Thanks for your feedback and I appreciate you watch my video.
How do you mix the mud for the splatter effect and what materials please ?
It’s just a regular old mortar mix, but we have the acrylic glue to make it stronger.
what studs/screws are you using to hold it together?
I used course drywall screws 1-1/2”
Wow! My husband actually purchased me a resin Moai from Toscano magazine...about 14 years ago. He's about 6 foot tall and weighs maybe 60 pounds. Still looks great. VERY EXPENSIVE even back then. Sure would like to get him a buddy! Also had my heart set on building a Stone Henge feature. All this time I was trying to figure out how to do this, and after stumbling across your site and watching your stone making vids...you make my dream seem possible! But what I really want to know is....Do you sell these already made?

The 89 inch tall statue sell for $3,500 plus shipping.
Most people want to get my template kit and build their own, currently that’s on sale for $295.
So I could keep it outside?
Yes… it has a long life span being outdoors
Amazing Craftsmanship 👍🏻👍🏽👍

These are very impressive! Did u use any bonding agent between layers? Or does concrete need it if it is still wet before adding another layer?
Thank you for the positive feedback I really appreciate you taking the time to watch my video.
Yes, I always use a bonding agent in between any layers of Cement that I apply
Jim,
Just found your videos earlier this morning.
Very interesting 'sculpture creation' videos. Most surprising is the materials and methods you've used
to make your sculptures.
Thanks You,

We use about 2 pounds of inch and a quarter drywall screws and yes there are probably shorter screws that could be purchased. These are just handy at Lowe’s and inexpensive. .
All the different rock and stone features that you’ve used in the video weren’t my home… I was shot in our manufacturing plant. Although when I place the statue, that’s outside my shop at home.
@@fauxrock: Where you finally placed the Moai sculpture was what I was referring to.

is a small Moai more difficult to make than a big one ?
No, the smaller the statue is the easier it is to make.
@@fauxrock Thanks man😇😇
🙏
Can it be created by sculpting?
Yes sculpting methods are a way to make many things. It requires more skill on my opinion.
@@fauxrock: Wait a minute. Technically you are sculpting, just using a cardboard medium
to do so.
Four main techniques exist in sculpting: carving, assembling, modeling, and casting."
No confusion here. What your sculpting is, is "additive", and definitely considered to be a type
of sculpting, even if you're only adding cardboard and cement together.

Even to make it out of cardboard you needed power tools, I wonder how the original ones were built.

The nose, mouth and ears are all wrong in relation to the actual Moai on Easter Island. The top of the head should be flat to accommodate the pukao (topknot).
I’m speechless… But I appreciate your feedback back. Thanks for watching my video
