  • @cricketinfield1770

    OK, the title is deceptive about the "no power". You don't need to be deceptive because this fountain is one of the better DIY ones I have seen and the use of the power pack is a plus. I have lots of cloudy days and actually would prefer an outdoor deck plug in but this will be great if a ziplock bag will keep the powerpak dry. And, I don't even have to buy a dremel or use a drill! Good stuff.

    • @SugarDad1
      @SugarDad1  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, we have had good luck with using ziplocs to keep it dry in the rain. Works best when the zip part is pointed downward. Hope the fountain works well for you. What species are you hoping to bring in?

      At first I thought it said no power OR solar in the title with this : no power/solar. But when I clicked on the video I knew it meant no power it is solar. Either way, I don’t know why you don’t have more subscribers! You cracked me up and explained it well. Plus your wife is funny too. It’s a beautiful thing to see couples like you.

    Great video. Love the flamingo at the end. I just made one like this with a 5 gallon bucket. FYI, the store that I just retired from had a bakery that would give the buckets away (along with the lid). 5 gallon or the size you're using. These lids work great for the top since they're more stable. They just snap on and off the bucket. I do like the idea of the handle stabilizing the top of yours though. Gives the birds a perch.

    Thank you, thank you, thank you for this idea! I have been looking for something that my resident year-round hummingbirds can enjoy without getting clobbered by the other wild birds. I only have one outdoor electrical outlet that is already running a birdbath fountain. I was looking for an idea to make something that wouldn't require running another extension cord. Genius idea! I appreciate the humor and wit, as well as the detail explanation. Keep up the great work!

    Thanks for the DIY demonstration. Love the knobby-kneed, pale-faced Flamingo at the end! (LOL)
    Now, what about the plastics you have used? Since the bucket came from a bakery, I presume it is BPA free plastic, but what about the chip and dip tray? If the plastic has BPA, it is poisonous for the birds.
    I have a question about warmth in Winter. Have you figured out a way to keep the water reasonably warm during the cold weather months? Even moving water will freeze if it gets cold enough. There is also the desire to offer warm water for their bathing of course.

    • @SugarDad1
      @SugarDad1  3 роки тому +2

      You're welcome for the demo, hopefully you can incorporate some of the ideas.
      We had some fun filming the ending.🤣
      Yes, all plastics used are BPA free. It's a good point you bring up.
      Regarding keeping the fountain/pump warm, our solution is to take it to Mexico for 6 month's. For someone staying in a colder/freezing climate you could try using a submersible aquarium heater in the bucket. Alternatively, years ago I bought a bird bath with a heat element built in. It was the (bird) place to be in the winter. I could probably find an attach a link here for that of you're interested.

      @@SugarDad1Yes, I "liked" the video. :)
      I never heard of a submersible heater before. Learn something new every day! I shall have to look into this. My area gets pretty cold in Winter, especially at night, but it is nothing like the East Coast or Canada where there is severe cold. Still, I would like to provide warm water for the birds over the coldest months if I could. I am not up to doing anything too elaborate, but I am happy to make a reasonable effort. I am particularly "handy" unfortunately. This is why your DYI appeals to me. It looks like something pretty much anyone could do if s/he tried.

    No power or solar.
    1. Get bucket
    2. Get solar powered power bank.

    No power water fountain but the first thing you need is a portable power bank. 🤦🏻‍♂️

    Anti-climatic video. Almost 13 minutes long when the producer could have made the relevant information and instruction down to about 3 minutes. Yet another video produced by someone who didn't get enough attention as a child.
