I love that i found your channel I went today and got some new hummingbird feeders and set them up I had something so special happen to me last summer I was watering my vegetable garden box and i had the hose nozzle on a sprinkle up in the air Out of a tree came down a hummingbird right infront of me and took a little shower in the water i was sprinkling for my garden It went back in the tree and came back down again Omg it was the cutest thing ever
In S.C. dead summer where it's SOOO hot....well before I knew to build a hummingbird fountain *by way of Robbie* I would (and still do) take my hose - after the hot water has left the hose put my thumb over it to mist it and take it up high? I noticed all the hummers coming and getting cooled off! When it's been dry is when I'm pulling the hose out for the outdoor plants and etc so.. of course they'd be hot, too! I now do it very often! So thank you for making mention of your own discovery!!! Mayhaps others will see your comment & can claim to do the same or may now will!
Last year I watched you with my mom! We watched you till the day she died. She and i loved your birds and happy talking. Mom and I were heartbroke by family members. You helped us tremendously. Glad to see your videos still out there
You have so inspired me. I took all the info you so generously share and made my own little DIY hummingbird birdbath and today, bestill my heart, I captured a hummer bathing at it. I almost jumped for joy. We are in Mesa AZ and while we seem to have quite a few hummers still here, they don't flock to feeders like yours do. So to see a cutie pie enjoying the bath this morning, just made my day. Thanks for all you do for us bird lovers.
By te way, I forgot to mention that I am a follower from Mexico City. I love what you have accomplished and the amazing way you have to share it with the World! Congratulations!
I’ve been following you all year long since 2022 and I have, thanks to you; a beautiful backyard, bird sanctuary for my wild birds and hummingbirds and I have invested in many solar panels and followed your instruction on making the cute little bucket fountains all over my yard❤❤❤❤
I've purchased the solar pumps before and what I ended up doing was testing the various tips, until I found one I liked, but as you said, it was still shooting up a lot higher than I wanted and I was losing water out of the bowl. So what I did was took a cordless drill and small bits and I drilled out the holes on the tip, to make the holes bigger. I did one at a time and then tested the tip on the pump. Depending on the size of your bit, you may be able to get away with only drilling one or two holes. Doing this allows more water to flow through and decreases the height of the water shooting out of the pump. Again do this slowly and do it one hole at a time. Otherwise you might open too many holes and then you won't be getting the height you want. If I remember two holes worked good for me but I don't remember the size of the small bit I used. Also, keep in mind that some of these solar pumps have an adjustment on them, where you can regulate the water flow by changing the adjustment, but the ones I bought so far did not have this. The other idea I will suggest, is if you are having issue because the water is shooting out of your bowl on all sides, it to locate the pump to one side and find a way to put it on a very slight angle. This way the water will shoot from, let's say, the left side of the bowl towards the middle and this will often be enough to keep the spray from the pump inside of the bowl, so you're not loosing water and having to constantly refill the bowl.
You’ve inspired me. I’ve got a solar pump arriving tomorrow, picked up a bowl yesterday, and have plenty of rocks to set one of these up. I actually have several planned!!
Don't be discouraged if they don't "bathe" right away. It took me three summers of getting it just right before I knew what would attract them to it. In no particular order: The right flow; not a drinking fountain arc of flow. Not near their feeders. Yes, near greenery/ plants / bushes. Not near where the other birds (seed-feeders) hang out. Not near where my dogs like to hang out (and can be within reach). These tips are just on my experiences and yours may vary but my point is do not be discouraged.
@@Livingsamsara Thank you! I had no interest last year, so I’m so appreciative of these tips. They did bathe in the sprinkler when I set it up on the roses. That was incredible to see.

Hi Robbie, Thank you for sharing your tips about hummingbirds. I just started this exciting journey. I’m not sure how many birds I have. I think it’s three. It’s hard to tell. I get excited every time I see one at the feeder. I was sitting in the porch today and one just flew right up to me about 2 feet away. I wasn’t sure what to think. But I was thrilled. I have made two bird baths like the ones you demonstrated. Thank you. I haven’t seen a bird in it. I may be as excited as you. 😂

I think this is one of the easiest ways of bringing in the birds I’ve seen. One can buy a pump for as little as $12 - $14, I picked up a darling old bowl at the thrift store for $5: I’ll be getting my pump shortly, because this is a wonderful way to cool off the birds and bring them in to me so I can see them. I love this.

lol.... each new fountain i make .... is less complicated which appeals to the birds more... more rocks and less fuss. And yes... they still have their favorite... the one that is the oldest in my yard.
I'm going to make one. I have got some good tips from you. I got my first Hummingbird feeder I love it. I have been using the Tulle it keeps the bugs off my Collards and the rabbits off too. I like what you said about just removing the powdery mildew leaves from the squash and that you don't spray. This approach is working. Thank you and Gary for all you do😊
Thank you! I have a red jar fountain which most people call a hummingbird fountain. I have never seen them use it I have a ball one that I am trying to convert to solar. I am definitely going to try this!!
Hi Robbie, I love your enthusiasm for all things gardening and nature. I tried to buy some of these as gifts for me and people I know with kids who would love to make such an easy bird bath. I live in South East Queensland, Australia and tried to buy those solar pumps online, which are amazing! Unfortunately they don’t post to Australia, which is such a shame. We need to have a distributor here, which would be such a blessing! Sadly we don’t have hummingbirds, but with the lillypilly trees here when they bloom it brings in a lot of different nectar feeding birds, which are small and have similar long beaks.
Hi Robbie….love your ideas..but the best one to me is the small usb fish tank pump. That was a complete game changer for me…thank you so much. Can’t wait to make my own bird bath. 😊
Thank you so much for the great ideas. All the fountains and birdbaths I have looked at are so expensive. Yours are great. Can't wait to watch your other videos.
I use a little solar fountain from amazon. All one unit that floats in the bird bath and puts a spray in the are almost two feet high. The hummers love it. I think it was $13

You are wildlife's best friend! Thank you for another beautiful video :-) I am definitely going to make these. Our temps are fierce this month.
The birds really love them, thanks so very much, Robbie
Hi Robbie….love your ideas..but the best one to me is the small usb fish tank pump. That was a complete game changer for me…thank you so much. Can’t wait to make my own bird bath. 😊
Thanks for sharing, always in search of something different
Great tips ❤ thank you
Thank you
Thank you so much for the great ideas. All the fountains and birdbaths I have looked at are so expensive. Yours are great. Can't wait to watch your other videos.
What a great idea! I love seeing the birds and how you engage the little hummers. Thanks!
Awesome video Robbie
I use a little solar fountain from amazon. All one unit that floats in the bird bath and puts a spray in the are almost two feet high. The hummers love it. I think it was $13
Hello how you pour the pole o stack in the floor ? Thank you for the information.God bless you
A sprinkler will do but they waste water. Soakers used at nite save water.
Love your water feature ideas. You’re videos are relaxing
