great job, well done I like mazda, I drive 323F 2.0 DITD andit runs good. But with these modern mazda diesel engines I am dissapointed. So much trouble
I would tend to to replace all gaskets and seals I come across, its quite a long job to dismantle, so if a joint blows after you have done the job then its going to be the most awkward one. I would also grease all threads with a smear of copperslip. I salute you on your replacing nuts and screws back and covering any openings which objects might drop eg, air pipes, also as you found out it is easier to remove the coolant header tank and struggle and mess around catching the coolant in bottles. It would seem the way people are taught these days is to take minimum amount off but struggle with the chance of damaging. something. If you don't have an ultrasonic cleaner, then soaking in a strong solution of soap and hot water will do the job, but best left overnight. Like he has done clean the worst off mechanically. The EGR valve looks like you can remove the electrical operator then soak the valve end. Well done and a good job.
I completely agree with you. However as I do these cleanings quite often(8 a month roughly). From experience I can tell that the gaskets are fine, I am talking about the metal ones, if there are rubber seals anywhere I replace them no matter what as they can degrade over time. Also I test drive the cars and check them which I have fixed and if there is any issue after that I fix it ;) Also, all of these gaskets are ridiculiously expensive to replace, obviously if the client wants it I don't have any problem with it ;) For me as I do these quite often the removal and reassembling is the least time consuming job, the walnut blasting is a lot more involving.
I cant get over the $9500(AUS) for a de-carbon etc, those dealer mechanics are only interested in oil changes for a premium price. You should definitely tell the customer what needs attention. Even a snapped fan belt can have them stranded, with a expensive tow. Keep these 2.2d soot machine vids coming !
These are the type of channels authorized garages and dealerships hate but we love. Thanks buddy. amazing in depth. I've just had a P258b error come up on my mind and I was told it was a vacuum pump error but the vacuum pump seems to be working fine. Any tips?
It will be the vacuum pump and/or worn exhaust camhsaft. Do you have a scan tool? If so,check in the live data the brake booster pressure sensor values. If it doesn't go back to 7.6kpa then the vacuum pump needs to be replaced. Usually if you have codes for it then it is faulty.
Very nice video. I have a short question about the intercooler. Noticed on this Mazda the pipes are quite full of gunk. Isn't this a result of the turbo pushing some oil in? As the carbon clogs the oil drain line from the turbo, oil starts slowly seeping through the bearing and in the compression fans. Therefore, do you also remove the turbo and clean it and/or replace the bearing or potentialy rotating shaft?
Fab reference video watched a few times..I aim to reppace and check my egr cooler ASAP..seems straight forward . I spoke to mazda tech when picking up my coolant bypass .. 1 question if I may ..how awkward do you think it wouod be to swap out the bypass with intake on ?. My car had intake clean under 2 years ago ..he suggested strongly its my egr cooler given what I told him I've had done etc ..I'd like to swap the bypass out same time as they commonly fail ..let me know if you will Thank you great work ill keep you posted
Great content! I have just cleaned the intake of my Mazda 3 2014 plate, 180.000 km wasn't so bad. The results were good, having in mind I did manually. It started at the first attempt and now is running smoothly. Thanks to your videos I had the guts to do it. Question now how would check the wear on the exhaust camshaft without distmantling anything?
Thank you very much buddy for your generousity! ;) Unfortunately the only way is to remove the valve cover, because even tho you stick down a borescope into the oil fill hole, you still won't be able to see the exhaust camshaft as the oil shower is sitting on top of it and covering it. However, if you have done the carbon cleaning on your own based on my videos, the valve cover removal should be easy for you too. What you be mindful of if the injectors are not coming out with a gentle push from a prybar then don't force it as you may crack the valve cover. Then you will need to fabricate a similar tool that I did ;)
About the brake booster pressure sensor, I noticed my brake pedal getting harder to press and looking at OBD live data it doesn't move much at all (always around 10-20kPa) when heavily pressing the brake pedal. What should I suspect? Worn exhaust camshaft + bad vacuum pump, other than the sensor itself? Mine is a 2014 Mazda3. Thank you
Nice video, Thanks. Dirty, Horrible job - and I know because I've done a few myself. (busy on two at the moment).. I wanted to ask how the Inlet manifold ended up after the different fluids you tried? I've also had very limited success with ultrasonic cleaners...
You are an expert now on the 2.2 skyactiv diesel shitboxes, tell me I had one that had done 17500 from new over 4 years, now I know that's a very low mileage for a diesel over 4 years, I've since sold it, but it was doing regens every 30/40 miles, is that bad?
Great video, just did the job on my car. Would not start after reassambling, sounds like no compression. You say it must build up new compression after this job, why is that? Guess this is the reason it won`t start. Guess I must crank it some more then..

Excellent video, thanks for content, I plan to do this on my 2014 2.2 diesel ( will borescope inspect through the inlet sensor first ) question could I block the EGR tube at a gasket joint ? seen it done on a Landrover video.
Anything you block, delete or bypass will require a remap. There will be remap guys everywhere int he country. I deleted my dpf and have my 6 tourer at a stage 2 remap now. Edit: 2013 6 tourer 2.2 skyactiv diesel- biggest con in car history these diesel engines and dp filters with the egr that are designed to fail at 150K on the odo.
Nice Video :D Only thing I can suggest is, when you're doing that test for the Vacuum pump, let the Fast idle [Injector Cleaning Procedure] finish when you first start the car. Pump the brake and check the reading once the Fast Idle [1800rpm] comes down to normal idle speed. It will definitely effect how long it'll take for Vacuum pump to reach that >10 value. Also with regards to that Exhaust Pressure sensor pipe, I understand it's blocked, but do you HAVE TO replace it? Can't you clean it? Maybe soak it in some cleaning agent to soften the sooth and put it through your Ultra Sonic Cleaner and/or use an air gun and blow it out?
Thanks for the insights. You are correct. I already knew that the vacuum pump is good on this one, I just wanted to show how to test it. But yes, you should wait till the idle settles. You can clean the pipe I guess, but the owner decided to get a brand new one as it was causing him a lot of headache and also didn't want to risk it again having issues. I kept the pipe, I may clean it if I will have time and test it for blockage.
Thanks a lot for a great video. Would polishing the exhaust-channels prevent carbon deposits? Or another treatment to make it runs longer without problems again?
Amazing amount of carbon given the mileage. Are all of the diesel skyactive engines prone to this? I have a 2017 cx5 that is only used on motorways but I am sure going to take a look. Thanks
I have CX5 Fault P2262, Cleaned already everything and changed the sensors but nothing worked. Turbo seems fine to me. Its also telling me dpf fault. Do you have a guess what is the problem ? Thank you for every video! 🙏🏼
Which sensors did you change? Did you clean the pipe underneath the exhaust pressure sensor? What is the reading of the EPS at idle? Did you visually check the wastegate flap on the small turbo? What is the fault code for the DPF?
Hi, I’m very impressed with your work, I have the same car,64 plate 120,000 miles too. Would I be able to bring my car to u to get this done too please. Want to keep my car, love the way it drives. . How much do I charge for all this, thanks
Really useful, but I'm still not confident to do my own. Anybody out there doing this professionally? I'm in Gloucestershire UK and have a Mazda6 2,2 Diesel that needs a good engine de-carbon.
I have a CX 5- 2017 automatic. It sort of went into a limp mode after driving for an hour on the motorway- The traction control system sign, smart brake system light, and electric parking brake light came on. Stopped and restarted and everything was back to normal. Can the carbon build up cause any of this?
What a job that was, well done! What is the number one cause of all this carbon build up? Is it solely the injector washers leaking, or something else also (incomplete DPF regeneration)? What mileage had the car done? Edit: Appears to be around 110k miles on the clock towards the end of the video?
This car had around 120k I believe. The cause is the EGR system and the engine being direct injection, so the carbon residue and soot can build up inside the EGR parts, intake manifold and intake ports. Unfortunately all direct injection engines have these issues more or less. The skyactiv is extremely bad on that side.
Thats a crazy amount of buildup i sure hope my engine doesnt look like that. I also have the code p2262 but my preassure is 200+ on idle instead of ~100kpa. What do you think causes this?
Has anyone ever had a problem free experience with one of these engines? We hear so many stories of how bad they are, but does every single one of them experience issues?
P0401 but it is quite rare that it throws that fault code, if it does, there is no doubt, it is the carbon buildup. But let's say if you have less then 45MPG average you need the carb cleaning.
@@MrNiceGuy94 Many thanks. In a country where it was legal to delete the DPF would you expect the carbon build up to be less? Are there any additives or detergents that would help to reduce the build up? Is it worth buying supreme type diesel fuels rather than supermarket diesel?
