Extremely helpful video, THANK YOU!
I did this job on a 2003 Ford Transit 280s (steering wheel left side) without removing the dashboard. You need to be two people and preferably one of you with small hands as it is a very tight area.
Remove the cover on passenger side to reveal the fuses, remove the airduct(s) thats in the way for the job. We took it out from under, not through the hole on top of the dashboard. Disconnect blower fan and transistor. Remove transistor by unscrewing 2 torx screws and pulling out.
Identify the "lock" mechanism for the blower by laying on the passenger side floor, use a flashlight. Once identified, one person on the floor can use a flat screwdriver to lift the "flap" of the blowers lock mechanism. At the same time your helper needs to twist the blower using hands, from above. Should come off easily.
Be careful when putting the blower back in. We accidentally broke the flap of the lock mechanism so we had to replace the housing of the blower aswell.
Keep calm and be careful through the whole process as this is not really how its supposed to be done. It is possible though, at least with 2003 transit 280s Ford (steering wheel left side).
Thanks for the write up!
I have had the resistor in my door well hoping that somehow it magically fits itself, looks like ill have to pull the dash out tomorrow and have a crack at giving it the fix. Might watch your video 40 times legend!
Hey guys i took the dash out, cleaned the fan it was full of dust and grit, was moving freely and had no play. Wasnt drawing too much current. Changed the resistor, put a new radio in. Changed the battery behind the seat and replaced the terminals. I think all up i took 14-15 hours doing the job. Worth it to keep the van healthy
Thanks for the comment.
@@AutoBuddynzbravo,ești un exemplu bun
Thank you for this video, very useful!
Thanks!
FYI: my partner was able to remove the resistor from underneath without removing the dash. 😊 For a 2005 model
Thanks for the info! It is possible to complete this job without removing the dash just a bit difficult
I have a 2015 Transit Connect XLT I replaced the motor and the resistor without taking the dash out. All you have to do is remove the gas pedal and the glove box. All the screws are T20
Yes correct late model transits are a different design. Thanks for the info.

Good 😊
Thanks!
Hi Auto Buddy I have the same problem with my transit 2008 MK6 model I was just wondering what year your transit is, and how long does it take to remove the whole dashboard ,, and do you also need to remove the instrument cluster. ?also is your transit a right hand drive or a continental model as I have read so many blogs on how much the 2 vary, Thank you
Hi Dave, this video applies to any transit from 2000 - 2006. The later model transits like your 2008 has a few more things to remove as the gear shifter is mounted on the dash. Its an 8hr job to remove the dash, replace the resistor and re-fit the dash but if your not familiar with transits this can easily take 10 - 15 hours.
So after pulling the dash out the final annoyance is they use torx head screws to hold the resister in?
Yes thats correct, they are standard torx bits between T15 - T30 is what you need for this job
In a 1994 -2000 transit that looks the same as this, you can get to the resistor without removing the dash. It's a bit of effort but totally possible.
1994 - 2000 on a Ford Transit the resistor is not located under the dash. Its found in the engine bay on the chassis rail
@@AutoBuddynz Not on mine is all i can say. I have a haynes manual that says otherwise also.
@@jjjunkie Interesting might be a different setup for NZ new transits, unless its the cross over year model you have
Great explaination. Oh gonna be fun removing the dash! My 1998 transit blower motor definitely needs replacing so with it a new resistor. Whats the solution if the temp knob isnt adjustable past 12oclock position? I.e not able to turn the temp up?
Is your Transit the same shape as seen in this video? Or is it the previous generation?
Think I might be an older shape
@@adelecain1163 If its the older shape the resistor is in the engine bay, on the chassis rail. Not under the dash as seen in this video
what would be the problem if none of my speed options work , whilst driving if i put the temp on hot the air will come out slowly and does heat the cab? is this fixable by myself?
One of 2 things. If your lucky it will just be a blown resistor, but more than likely your blower fan will need to be replaced as it might be tight to spin and therefore caused excessive current draw. I would recommend checking your wiring to the fan at the same time.
Did you ever figure out what your issue was? Because I replace my blower motor in my resistor and I'm still getting the same as you're describing. While I'm driving I'm getting some air flow and I can change from hot to cold but I can't adjust the speed.
Not all Ford Transit are the same, it should indicate what year is this vehicle.
Added now, thanks
Where is the aircon relay?
Can I ask how long you feel it is reasonable to take the dash out on a mk7 and replace and put back? Dealing with a customers van through aa parts and labour warranty, they’ve allowed half an hours labour @£25 to replace this.. not reasonable!
Not possible in 30mins, minimum would be 1 - 1.5hrs to remove, so total 2 - 3hr job. First time removing it is more like 6hrs total
That's because u don't need to take the dash out .just remove one vent tube and reach up took less than 5 min
2010 mk7 rhs is impossible to do. Dash is riverted in to steel pipe frame which includes steering wheel, shifting lever, wiring harness, A/C pipes. Designer can't be serious. Frustrating to find I can't do it.
There's no need to take the dash out justremove one vent tube and reach up got mine out in under 5 min
Thrres gotta be an easier way in
There is a possibility of removing your air ducts and accessing the blower motor, however you run the risk of damaging components and cracking the ducts. Hence the reason why Ford specifically require the dash to be removed.
There is if it’s a mk 7 transit
I removed one vent and snuck it out where the headunit goes
@ronpalmer1371 how?
