Used your video to change the oil on my 2019 f150 for the first time. Thank you for the vid!
Cleanliness is next to godliness! Good show AROD! I put a coyote in my 68 F100 just over 3yrs ago. Easy oil change!
Been changing oil on my '06 f150 for years. I keep a empty quart bottle of oil to draw off what I don't need from my 5qt jug. I pour used oil in old 5 qt jug. When I get 5 to 8 qts old oil (lawn mower, etc included) I take to recycling place. Love this video will help me on my 2018 after the prepaid maintenance contract expires to do my truck.
You know what A rod your the man not many techs any more take pride in cleaning up after the job. I had a co-worker had a timing job done and the tech left coolant and oil everywhere good to know there are others out there that take pride in their work.
Bro, I cannot stand that. If the vehicle didn't come in looking like that it sure as hell isn't going to leave
100% agree with you on filling the filters and the brake clean. Some people are crazy
Bro........... internet🤦♂️
Man I don't miss those messy 5.0 oil changes...especially with the FX4 skid plate. The 6.7 is easy peasy!
Great explanation. I also use brake cleaner on nearly everything. Oh yeah... I have a great idea. I'm gonna fill the new oil filter with oil and then drain it when I am lining it up. More clean up and a waste of good oil.
great video. got the stuff to do my first oil change at the house on my 19 5.0. found your video just to make sure there wasnt anything out of the ordinary with the process (i knew about the oil drain going all over the cross bar, just looking for anything else). seems straight forward, but looks like i need to get me some brake clean before i get started! lol
Lol, nvr enuff brake clean
My 6.7 looks massive compared to that 5.slow and I burn my oil in my garage heater great video you are the best ford tech
Puralator makes fords motorcraft filter, and p66(ConocoPhillips) makes motorcraft oil. Kendall is a sibling of motorcraft
6.7s and 5.0s...
My 2 faves
Nicely done ARod thanks
Nice done as always 👌
Hi thanks for the video will do this tomorrow , I have a 2019 f-150 Xlt 5.0, by any chance do you know where the mass airflow sensor can be located?
Don't mind the extra oil getting on the sway bar. Living in the rust belt it actually will protect it lol
My used oil goes to O'Reilly Auto Parts. I don't buy much from them, but great for free used oil disposal.
Used oil goes to one of my friends who runs it as bar oil in his saws. If its clean he will dump it in the fuel tank of the dirty old dodge 5.9 Cummins and burn it for fuel in the summer.
Whose complaining about filling a 6.7L filter?? You got to be joking!! Anywho...love your work brother. I wish we lived closer, and NOT for you to change my oil either. You’re a cool cat 👍🏼🤙🏼
Misssssss chuuu
My used oil goes to the county haz-mat center. Easy. Just drive in, show driver's license, they take the container out, empty it and return it the truck bed, and I drive away. I never leave the driver's seat.
After the filter gasket touches, I only go a half turn mor, never had one come loode, and you won't need a wrench to get it off. put a sharpi mark on it and check it whenever you'r under the hood.
Thanks dude!
I have to do this to my wife’s explorer tomorrow.
Just did mine I didn’t expect the oil to shoot out like that
My 06 triton has 1 of those oil filter drain troughs and in 15 years not one drop of oil has landed in the trough.
Nice thanks for video on a f150
Dènada
Boss oil filter, blend oil.... haha. Hopefully you do reasonable oil change intervals
Used oil goes to MT Pleasant for my dad to burn.
OMG YOU SPRAYED THE GASKETS!!!!!! :SCREAM: 😜
You seen those ValvoMax oil change bag kits?! Those things look trick! Pretty cool to have on your truck for those of us without a shop. Whatdya think? Should do a video on them!
I'll have to check him out I don't know anything about him
Used oil? I put it around my fence posts and around the edge of the barn. Hey, It came out of the ground to start with.
Nice done 👍
My local township garage takes the used oil to heat their garage in the Winter.
Ford give you a drain plug in the transmission pan, so you can get the factory stuff out of there too?
No you have to drop the pan. I replaced mine with a doorman pan that comes with a drain plug and it works great.
No flood mode prime? Lol
Also, wasn’t the new dipstick dot to dot a quart?
What eight oil you recommend on 2022 6.7 power stroke
Interesting fact: The 11-17 F150 5.0 has a large oil cap and takes 7.7 quarts of 5w-20. The 18-20 have a smaller cap which takes 8.8 quarts. However the 2021+ have a small cap, but take 7.75 of 5w-30.
Why don't they just freaking make it 8qt or 9qt? OMG...Ford.
It’s just under nine but I helped my dad change his oil, we put in 9 qts. Idledthe motor. Checked the oil and it was in the middle of the safe zone so we poured in the last quart, checked it again and it was perfect. WHY? Google said 8.9 quarts. Also used a wix filter and was a wee bit bigger than the one done by the oil change station, and better. That couldn’t make a difference though for 10 quarts of oil.
I just bought a 2023 Ford F150 with the 5.0 coyote engine. I looked at the engine cap and the owners manual and it says to use 5W- 30 oil in it. I wonder what has changed on the engine that Ford is now says use 5 w - 30, it still uses the same amount of oil as the 19.. Does anyone know why the change?
Purolator makes motor craft oil filters anyways.
Fun story I change oil for years at a shop and when a customer would bring their boyfriend or husband and try to tell me to put a different Weight in. then when they asked me how do I know and I will tell him the manufactures made it idiot proof by putting what it needs in on the cap lol . And after showing them the girlfriend or wife we tell them to be quiet and let me do my job
20:57 thank you!
Just used 2 cans of brake clean on an engine swap at work 😂😂😂 I shoulda made a video of using it!
You my friend would have broke the Internet
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod challenge accepted! They will get happy in the same shoes they get mad in lol
what was the interval on that oil ? looks DARK haha.
Do you think the skid plate is even necessary on the f150 with the 2.7 ? Seems like a pain in the butt for nothing…?
I buy brake clean by the 55 gallon drum, let’r rip!
I have 2020 F150 5.0 can I use full synthetic oil? Also should I install catch can.
Yes you can to both
Great video ARod on this common maintenance task. I'm driving a 2012 F150 FX4 5.0 with the skid plate someone mentioned earlier.
Just two things for the DIYers out there. If you source your oil filter from a big box store, open it and look at the filter mating surface. Sometimes these mating surfaces can build up surface corrosion, and while that's not an issue seen at shops and parts stores where the filter inventory turns over frequently, it can be an issue at stores like Wal-Mart where inventory moves slower.
The other suggestion is from what ARod encountered taking off the old filter. Check the old filter to make sure the filter O-ring came off. If the last person who changed the oil did not lube the filter O-ring and/or cranked it down like the old filter ARod removed, the O-ring may stick to the filter mating surface. If you put the new filter on with the old O-ring in place, the engine will leak oil like crazy when you start it up.
I have a 2019 5.0 and I found that 9.5 qts is the perfect amount of oil.
My dads took 10 and that was perfect on the dip stick
2020 F-150 5.0L
Company vehicle with fleet maintenance
Local Quick Lane is shut down due to workers walking out Re: "Medical Status"
Quick Lane is usually a 2-ish hour ordeal
Plus, they do a sh*tty job washing the truck, actually looks worse when they're done
No clean-up done either. Oil dripping from skid plate + trough
Last time I was there, truck REEKED like weed
2 week wait for an oil change
Bought 9L 5W20 and FL-500 at Parts (my cost)
Needed to MASSACRE the oil filter to remove it
Maybe they use an impact for Re&Re...
Pro-Tip: Use ramps or leave truck on ground to keep swaybar out of the way
If you don't do this, it will look like the Exxon Valdez ran aground in your driveway
Was done in 20-ish mins
Never going back to Quick Lane unless I get sh*t from the fleet company
Now why did ford switch the coyote to 5W-30 in 21 and ford performance racing school only uses 5W-50 as does ford for durability testing. They then recommend this thin stuff for fuel economy and had lots of engines with spun bearings. I personally went to 5W-50 in my Mach 1 and it’s nothing crazy you pick up about 10 psi of oil pressure across the board.
5w40 is all year long universal
5w30 is better oil for 5.0
Getting rid of factory drain plug for a Ronin. $80 bucks but well worth it in long run.Ford actually recommends replacing the factory drain plug every oil change. $10.00
Had one leak and replaced under warranty after first oil change dealer had to drain oil and replace with new drain plug. Ugh
I have question! Do you like Ecoboost truck 3.5L? You will keep that for longer? Or nah??? If yes??? Then next question what year Ecoboost 3.5L less headache maintenance?
I like 3.5. Gen twos are good
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod nice! My friend have that. It was good. I was not sure my next plan to get Ford F-150 5.0 or 3.5 ecoboost or Heavy duty 6.2 gas for reliable and haul handle well.
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod thanks for respond, you are awesome!
💪
Whats your opinion on this gen F150 and with the coyote engine? Are they good trucks or not so much? I know you prefer powerstrokes, but youre a specialist, so Im sure I can get an honest opinion from you.
They good fella. I wldnt have told my pops to get 1 🤙🤙
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod ive heard a lot about an oil consumption issue from this 5.0s because of a special lining in the cylinders or something like that. Im not so sure. What do you know about that?
I have seen 1 or 2 come through the shop with oil consumption issues if oil consumption issues out of all the trucks I don't think you have anything to worry about brother
The 5.0 is one of the best engines in any vehicle today. The '18+ models had a slight issue burning a tad more oil than normal, but the '11-'17 Coyotes were damn good engines. I have a '15 with 76,000 miles and I have NOT been easy on it lol and it's been a champ. Never once seen the CEL in 59,000 miles and 6 years of ownership.
My 2020 5.0 burns oil. Lost over a qt in 2k miles. Why does the cap say 5w20 yet manual says to use 5w30? Purolator Boss is one of the best you can buy.
So ford switched to 5W-30 for 21 so depending on when your truck was made it got a mix of parts and owners manuals. I have a Mach 1 and I went to the track attack at Charlotte motor speedway. I asked the guys at ford performance racing school what oil those cars use as they run super quiet. He said 5W-50 only. He in so many words told me ford uses 5w-50 in the coyote for any durability tests or performance numbers. They then use the 5W-30 for fuel economy. My car since new would burn 1.5-2 quarts every 5,000. Since I switched to 5W-50 I’m a couple thousand miles in and it hasn’t burned a drop. It’s really not that crazy either it picks up about 10 psi of oil pressure across the rev range. If I were you I’d try a 5W-50 or at least a 5w-40. It’ll help trust me.
@@hpkntnwMy 14 GT Track Pack took 5w50 so I stocked up because it isn’t the easiest to find - NAPA is probably your best bet. When I got my 18 performance pack I figured it would also take 5W50 but it takes 5W20. I still dump a quart of the 5w50 for the the odd quart I need. The explanation I heard for 5w50 was that Motorcraft oil sheer thins quite a bit so 5W50 provides more protection. I run strictly Mobil One so I don’t think sheer thinning is a problem. My guess is that the 5W20 is so thin that you lose oil through vaporization so to get around the consumption issues they are upping the viscosity.
Why do some people remove the oil cap before draining the oil and others leave it on? Is there a difference at all? Someone answer pls. I’m changing my oil for the first time in T-minus 8 hours
No effect either way
Why does Ford have an additive they charge for, what's it for??
????
Never seen someone change filter first
I work semis and stepvans daily never fill a oil filter. Never had a issue. Waste of time if u ask me
Is it 10 pulses with break cleaner or 10 seconds? You didn’t make it clear in the video🤣
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
👍
Excellent video but no way you removed the drain plug that easy
Ok
I used a 3/8 drive extension on a ratchet
I almost said break cleaner wii wreck the seal I just bought a drain bucket 7.5 quarts dam over flow meeeeeeeeeeeeeeees

@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod I listed all the highlights above! I agree from your footage that oil had a bit of miles over on it I'd guess.
Dude ur awesome
Lol
Valvoline Is great oil but the one you are putting in does not meet the spec for the engine you are putting it in
Are you in the splash zone?
Lmao
Trying to use my FordPass points, I sat at the "Quick" Lane in RI. for a basic service on my 2020 Ranger. THREE HOURS !! This is not an isolated incident, I spent TWO HOURS at a Quick Lane in FL. This is very common with Ford in my experience. Piss poor business model and nonexistent customer service.
Back to doing oil myself about 25
minutes... Sorry to vent, but Fords SLOW Lane needs to be shut down! I'm pissed
Dude I hear it ALL the time
