Thank you guys for great video! I have been researching the Cherokee Trailhawk and the Subaru Crosstrek. After watching this, my mind is made up. I knew the Trailhawks were tough, but holy smokes, this blows me away! Thanks again!
Steve Engleman yeah, they are incredible machines and so comfortable too! Plus, Sean and Zach send it so I’ve been so impressed with how they wheel! Thanks for watching!
We were all joking in a group chat about how we’ve all been called Mallcrawlers at one point or another so we were like, that’s what we should call ourselves lol
Hit this trail today 07-06-2023, MUCH harder terrain and obstacles than the time this video was posted! Heads up! Fun trail but very rough, 7/10 for sure.
☀️Enjoyed the video, we did this trail just yesterday, thinking we took a wrong turn, my goodness we almost turned back more than twice, but know we were in a Jeep wrangler (newbie’s lol) this trail was supposed to be moderate but we definitely ranked it difficult but now of course doable, we pushed thru, it was so so much fun! Thankfully there was no rain! 🙏💝✝️
just got our KL Trailhawk 1 month ago have a 3 in lift and 32in KO2's. We love it. one day might have to come up to your neck of the woods. or maybe you could come out here,Prescott Az, and Sedona is near. great 4 wheeling. maybe you can get some vides Here.
LOL... "this is what I'm working with on the trail guides"... good one. I have a KL too but I'm on the Canadian East coast... :( And frankly, I might have better filming skills than Sean but definitely not as it pertains to offroading with a KL. Great videos guys... keep 'em coming. Hoping to drive down to Colorado next summer. Hopefully I can hook-up with you guys and Zach to put my KL and my skills to the test!
Lol, Sean is actually quite good… we’ve all done it to each other at some point. “Man, I swear I was filming.” We usually have two cameras going now in case. Let us know!
I’ve never been up Pennsylvania Gulch, but have been near there. Looked challenging and fun, but might have to wait til the snow melts again! Great video, thanks!
Chris and Scott's Colorado Adventures Yeah, I’m wondering what this weekend will be like... probably muddy and that’s not always good for Colorado. Thanks for the support!
I am starting to like the look of the new Cherokee. I liked the boxy look, but the new shape is looking good. I would like to see more videos with the renegade too. I'm interested in buying one as an entry level off roader.
I think they’re awesome! They’re quite capable in stock form too! The only issue I’d like to note is if you build them up like Sean and Zach, you may not get warranty coverage. Even if it’s an issue with the vehicle and not due to off-roading, you may encounter issues. Besides that, they’re great!
@@coloradomallcrawlers also I literally discovered your channel like 2 days ago and subscribed after 1 vid. You do such a good job with the info on the trail and what to expect I have not seen anyone do as good of a job with trail reviews. :) Also i enjoy the ratio you have of narration, vehicle driving shots, and the fun you and your friends have talking. For real keep up the great work!! Also when i get my little renegade I'll keep it stock till it is payed off then start modding it for over landing and trail runs after that.
Really appreciate that! I’m trying, as I know people are busy, the goal is balance in these videos. I’m still learning though so I appreciate this kind of feedback as it helps me know I’m on the right track! Thanks!
Very nice Jeeps. Had a 2015 KL with a 2 inch Dobinson lift with duratrac tires and rocky road outfitters super sliders. Awesome vehicle and was a great car. Unfortunately totaled it (vehicle saved my life) but that lead me to getting my 2019 Frontier pro-4x lifted and can’t say enough how much I love the truck.
I did this today in a stock 2016 F-150 XLT without the 4x4/Fx4 trim package. Although it is equipped with the Max Tow so it does have the lock dif, but I didn't need it. No lift, stock wheels, some pretty beasty GoodYear Wranglers though. Fun trail, can't wait to explore up there even more. Preferably after a few upgrades.
Greetings! I do enjoy seeing what other stock Jeeps and other vehicles can do. I have a 2005 Jeep Liberty, the Old Goat, that is stock with off road package and tow group. All the Wranglers in the club looked down their noses at the Goat at first. But when they get to the top of the trail, wiped the sweat off their brows, and looked in the rear view mirror, there the Old Goat and me are right behind and grinning at them. Lessee, they paid 50,000 + for those JLU Rubicons and I have 7,000 in the Goat. More fun to watch them fume than I know what to do with. (The Goat is Trail Rated so has full skid plates which do get a work out). Ever get up to Northern Colorado, give me a shout and we'll meet you to ride the trails. Karl and the Old Goat. PS: remind me someday how the Old Goat and me schooled my buddy in his rubicon going up Red Cone. K
I’m well versed with the KJ, and have dreams of building my mom’s... she won’t let me have it and is still mad I took it wheeling a few years ago. I’m currently in Northern Colorado for work, but I’m likely getting furloughed so I’ll head to Moab when that happens. I’d like to see your liberty too. My mom’s is a Rocky Mountain edition with renegade options.
Colorado Mallcrawlers I love how the camera never actually captures how steep the climbs are. It always flattens everything out, and rocks always look smaller.
This is awesome guys, that's the truth! But I have some questions please help me, the Jeep Trailhawk is modified? and some specifics from the tires and so long... Thank you
Do you know what driving mode he used for his KL, if any? Did he have the rear dif locked/in 4 low? Thanks for the video! Just got the same KL in December (same color too lol).
Colorado Mallcrawlers hey man I live in golden and want to help film/offroad. My number is 7192761072 and I’ve been wheeling for 5 years. Part of over 2 dozen groups and looking to get into reviewing cars
Chad Haunschild right now, I just say find me on Facebook as I try to announce when we’re wheeling on there. Going tomorrow but we’re so last minute that we still haven’t finalized our plans except that we’re bringing one of the coolest Jeeps ever to be in one of my videos!
Best kept local secret. you're lucky it was dry, the upper section of P-Gulch is *really* tough when it's raining. Had to drive backward down that entire thing in the rain in my old 4runner because it was heavily rutted out with soft sandy crap at the top.
Thanks buddy! How’s the Cherokee coming along, we’re doing mosquito pass tomorrow if you want to join. Maybe Birdseye too but I work late tonight so maybe not.

But hopefully soon ill be good and we can hit some trails with my little stock Cherokee lol
Just did this trail today. As an update to those interested in doing it, it's gotten a bit more washed out but not too bad. I did it in my zr2 on 33's. Worst bit is the off camber root section shown around 7:09 and is even worse now. I hit 25 degrees getting around that damn root which is even more washed out now. Otherwise it's largely the same, great trail but highly recommend taking a spotter.
Dylan Gardner That’d be kinda cool! Honestly, was amazed I even got past 50, but so thrilled that people seem to like these videos! Thanks for the support!
It seems like a lot of the trails are getting in worse shape. I would say because they are seeing a lit more use and abuse. Are utv’s allowed on this trail or only licensed vehicles?
This one is supposed to be only licensed vehicles. I think it’s high use is because it’s so close to Boulder and Switzerland Trail is very popular. I also suspect that it gets chewed up in the winter even though I would recommend running it in the snow! It’s also an off-road direct route to Nederland. Thanks for watching!
We are starting to film again in May. We’re doing multiday trips mostly this year. I’m organizing them through the channel membership as it allows me to get everyone on the same page (allows me to publish videos without them going into the algorithm so I made a video on what to expect and what to bring).
Thanks so much for the quick reply. One final question, is the Jeep Trailhawk capable enough for off-roading as it comes out of the factory? Since I'm not one who would go to extreme things. So I really appreciate what you do but I am a bit moderate, that is I would like to do some Off-Road certainly, but something nonexcessive but of course still off-road. So what's your opinion, suggestion or anything else. Thank you!
It’s fine for moderate trails as defined by Funtreks in its stock configuration. If I had one, I’d leave it stock and likely even try some difficult trails. However, I wouldn’t tell others to do that. Thanks for watching!
The tepui kukenan 3 weighs 140 lbs . The weights go 150 lbs dynamic which is when you're moving but like 600 lbs static. You only need to make sure you use good quality cross bars or a rack. Something designed for the weight.
S4 Trail Boss We filmed one, but I wasn’t sure if there was interest yet. It’s on my list to edit tho... It’s on a 3in MFC lift with Fox shocks. I’ll tell him to respond to you tho.
Hey ya we did film one but I feel like I did such a bad job with it that it would have been unwatchable. Johns right, I have the 3 inch nfc lift with all the dobinsons hd springs , and fox shocks. Also my sliders are the rocky road outfitter supersliders. They are a pain to put on but I recommend them almost over any other mod you do first.
@@Westerntrailboss no problem. I believe protection is the most important thing you can do first. Then the lift and tires. But even with 13 inches of clearance I hit my skids and sliders still. They have saved me more than anything
Sean Watson your walk around will be good. I need to do Antero first, but maybe I’ll knock it out after. I just wanted more off road clips to put over you talking... figured it’d be a winter edit.
We had fun filming this and I thought it was going to be boring. Plus, I knew it would be hard to shoot so I was like, Sean, let’s do something else lol. Thanks for watching and subbing... got some good stuff coming I think!
I have a 3 inch mfc lift with fox 2.0 performance rear shocks, And rocky road outfitter supersliders. I don't count my cross bars or tent or camping stuff in the back as a mod. Oh and 255.70 r17 ko2s. I was in 4 low most of it , but not all the time. I was usually in sand mud, and only on rock with my locker on I think once for one of the really articulated obstacles near the top. But I probably could have made it without it. I just don't like looking like it takes drama to cross it. I want to make it look easy lol
@@shitloveaduck thank you. That's awesome to hear. I know a lot of people have differing opinions here. Yes to a degree I agree it's a good barometer to find out what the limits are in each drive mode , and if you try it open first you do get that. But at the same time a lot of Colorado trails are getting destroyed by people doing that. Plus ( and its a bit of an inferiority complex maybe ( not for me but for the jeep community as a whole ) and I think if I look like my Jeep has issues getting through obstacles, there will be people commenting saying see , that shouldn't be on the trails in the first place, look how much it's struggling? So I almost feel like I owe it to the cherokee community to make things look as easy as I possibly can so that they gain more credibility in the jeep community and get taken more seriously. If that makes sense. If I walk up an obstacle that an open diff built wrangler has to fight to get up ( and that has happened ) , it makes cherokees look so much more competent. We know that already on our channel, but so many elitest wrangler owners don't seem to
Yeah, I have the v6 in my Jeep Wrangler and I like it. Going with a turbo 4 or V6 is a personal preference, but you can make either work for most tasks.
@@ironborn8786 no I did have 31.1 inch tires. But I still kept the stock tire spare. I understand that long term use would obviously cause a problem, but it's Only use was to be put on to get to a tire shop and nothing else, and so I am not concerned about the tiny size difference. It's no different than driving on a donut for a few miles to get to a tire place , except it's a full size all terrain 🤷♂️. Now I have 30.5 inch , cuz I want down a half inch to switch to km3s but I still maintain that. I have a spare km3 at home to throw on If there is an issue but it won't fit underneath where the normal spare goes with the current config I have

Yours is sweet... but I mean, he’s trying to make that video and I said I’d help. I want to make our video be a DIY camper vs RTT vs Ground Tent in a blizzard... isn’t that what we’re doing next week 😉. We need to come up with a plan for NYE/NY.
I’d love to take a Subie, actually camping or overlanding with one Monday night. However, I have trouble getting Toyotas to go on these trails (although they’d be fine imo), there’s no way I’d get a subie to do these. Subs are awesome, but my goal is just to make good stuff... the rest will follow I’d assume. Thanks for watching!
Mine was the 2.5 liter turbo 5 speed though. A 2009. Way before they started putting cvts in their cars. The same engine ( though tuned more for comfort) as the wrx of the time. It was a quick fun car. Around 250 hp. I just wanted more off road prowess. But I do miss that little car none the less
@@seanwatson3790 - I am very disappointed with the direction Subaru has taken with their new “standard” models. They have turned a pretty good car into a sorry one. Their traction control system is so screwed up that it will stall (immobilize) the car for no legitimate reason. A manual transmission wouldn’t have the same problem, but Subaru has chosen not to offer them anymore. It must be noted that Subaru isn’t the only manufacturer with such problems, but they are the most noteworthy. I wouldn’t have one of their new ones ...
@@sking2173 I don't disagree with any of that. And it is all caused by the cvt. Because if they had standard automatic transmission, it wouldn't cut power to save the transmission. Software wise the x mode and x mode 2 are actually rather good. But the transmission ruins it. And that's sad
You were on private property when you were talking about the mine. You are lucky you did not get shot at! Only the road is not private property in that area. Private property should have no trespassing signs as not everyone is going to have GAIA’s private land layer running. There were none that I saw here most likely (it was a long time ago). We never actively cross private property.
@coloradomallcrawlers No one needs to be your babysitter and have no trespassing signs everywhere you walk. You videoed yourself trespassing and breaking the law! I will be REPORTING YOU FOR TRESPASSING!, and you can explain to a judge how you need no trespassing signs everywhere you walk. You ruin it for everyone who follows the rules. I own that land that you were trespassing on. STAY Off PRIVATE PROPERTY!!! YOU ARE GOING TO GET HURT AND GET OTHER PEOPLE HURT. It's common sense it's a mine. Someone owns it, and it's private property.
I do a pretty good job going slow. This one wasn't all that difficult I mean sometimes I have to send it a bit but I also think my turbo whine in 4 low makes it sound like im flooring it more than I actually am.
The only time I’ll say Sean truly sent it at the risk of breaking was Cliffhanger 2.0’s Dare Section. However, it was required to get the KL up it. That video will come eventually.
If ya'll are gonna continue to do this, please air down. You have no idea how much easier stuff gets when you learn how to wheel. Dear lord put some proper tires on that rubicon with offset wheels, please and thank you.
Hey Eric, thanks for your concern! Just know, I’ve been off-roading for 20 years and I learned to “wheel” in the slop that is east coast OHV parks (Superlift, Windrock, Caliente, Tellico). However, I’m not against learning more, so come show me what you got. However, I don’t think you realize that I make these to be entertaining (as well as informative) and if I aired down and walked up everything, it’s incredibly boring. You’d think a fellow wheeler would appreciate that.
@@coloradomallcrawlers went back and looked, you're right I can see the tires flexin. I'd say still lift them up, get wider wheels and go to some better offroad tires. Traction is your friend in the mountains. I appreciate the video's and information.

Great info and thanks for the quick reply. I have a ‘19 Trailhawk and I’m getting ready to build it up. Can’t wait to see the walk around.
You guys are funny.😆 I could watch your videos all day. Definitely a subscriber.👍
We had fun filming this and I thought it was going to be boring. Plus, I knew it would be hard to shoot so I was like, Sean, let’s do something else lol. Thanks for watching and subbing... got some good stuff coming I think!
you gonna go up with this early snow???!!
I think it’ll be melted by Friday so I’m going to try... the snow is wild tho, isn’t it?
What mods were done to the Cherokee and what mode did you have the 4X4 system in on the trail?
We know that already on our channel, but so many elitest wrangler owners don't seem to
With that said Sean, I need you to make things look harder as people love drama in their wheeling videos 😂 Do them aired up with me 🤣🤣🤣
@@coloradomallcrawlers 😛 I actually do prefer the comfort too lol
Blah, compared to my TJs, I’m in a luxury tea sipping hippy mobile.
Guys have a question about cherokee
Guys jeep cherokee v6 is good for everything?
Yeah, I have the v6 in my Jeep Wrangler and I like it. Going with a turbo 4 or V6 is a personal preference, but you can make either work for most tasks.
It can.... lol... because I have a KL Cherokee trailhawk...
Lol yep!
is the trailhawk lifted?
Yes, it should be noted in the video, he either had a 2in or 3in in this video. Thanks for watching!
Where does sean keep his full size spare?
He didn’t go up much in tire size despite the lift, he still has the stock one. We used it on red cone (an upcoming video).
@@coloradomallcrawlers ooohhh ok. I thought for some reason he had 31.6" tires. Was my mistake. Thank again.
I have a spare km3 at home to throw on If there is an issue but it won't fit underneath where the normal spare goes with the current config I have
@@seanwatson3790 am going to a bit smaller tires from 265/70r17's to somthing taller and thinner.
What roof top tent do you have?
I have a tepui kukenan 3 person tent
We need to do a tent comparison with Oxfoot soon.
@@coloradomallcrawlers hahaha. It isn't a comparison. His is 10 times nicer lol and 3 times more expensive hahaha. But I like mine and am ok with what it is( if my insulation ever shows up
But it would be fun by 2 people who do use theirs
Yours is sweet... but I mean, he’s trying to make that video and I said I’d help. I want to make our video be a DIY camper vs RTT vs Ground Tent in a blizzard... isn’t that what we’re doing next week 😉. We need to come up with a plan for NYE/NY.
i watch these videos just for the carnage. if you took a subaru you'd have even more subscribers like me :)
Wow
Lol, how so?
Subarus are very overrated FOR TRAIL BLAZING - especially the 2.5 with the CVT ...
Sean chose wisely.
I don’t know much about Subies besides my family having a forester when I was a kid. But I bet you’re right!
Please do not encourage people to look at the mines and get hurt(break the law). Some land owners are very aggressive in that area. Walking around with guns!! No one needs to be your babysitter and put up no trespassing signs everywhere you walk. By leaving this video up and encouraging people to break the law and trespassing. You are agreeing to a legal contract at your sole expense that you will pay all legal fees for any and all damages done on this private property depected in this video. Including but not limited to any and all property damage, medical expenses, and legal fees that may result from death. You also agree for the use of my private property depicted in your video, a fee of $100,000 with a 19% rate per month until paid in full. You also agree to pay all my legal fees to collect this fee. Leaving this video up is your agreement to this legal contract.
Sean needs to take his time and not just plow through the trail. That's how you break things.
Wise decision getting rid of the Subaru and purchasing a Jeep
For sure
Bro. I was at 15 psi. Any lower and I was afraid I would have rolled my tire off the rim
@@coloradomallcrawlers went back and looked, you're right I can see the tires flexin. I'd say still lift them up, get wider wheels and go to some better offroad tires. Traction is your friend in the mountains. I appreciate the video's and information.
@@ericwilsondc thanks for your note and for reviewing more videos.
