+Sammy Jankis His enthusiasm is like the total opposite of Bejar's "eyes screwed shut and push the microphone stand around" performance. Really a stand-out guy in a stand-out band.
As a grad teaching assistant, I always played music while the students came in. Whenever I did this set, there was total silence and reverence. They couldn't believe it. Neither could I nor do I whenever I hear it today. Something very special. The inside of Dan's head seems scary, wonderful, and so chill. I'd take some of that.
Nice work KEXP. Destroyer aka Dan Bejar; What can you say? Guy is incredible and will never be recognized for the genius he is. I don't think he cares though. This is a great set.
These guys are new to me as of 2 days ago via a random recommendation by UA-cam of “Kaput”. I couldn’t put my finger on who they reminded me of and it finally hit me. The sound similar in some ways to a band I like called “The Church” Off to explore some more of their work. Cheers.
Wow, there must a ton of HC and metal and punks out there that are so disappointed that this guy already has their band name. It's so weird to hear Randy Newman pop music played on indie radio, too. Its so nice that KEXP has such a broad range of styles to share with listeners.
Dan Bejar has such a unique timbre, but I found someone who, I think, shares a remarkably similar vocal quality --Al Stewart. He's great too! He's a Scot who's been around since the sixties. His biggest hit was 'Year Of The Cat'.
Been a New Pornographers fan a long time. Just now looked into Destroyer...Poison Season is terrific. Anxiously waiting for Kapput to arrive in the mail.
While not a fan of the music I cant help but absolutely admire the craft and delivery they put into their band. Great performance that for whatever reason did not speak to me.
That was pretentious and theoretically accurate at the same time. I almost felt the two forces working on the comment as well. Greets from Argentina. :)
this guy can't decide if he wants to be Morrissey or Paul McCartney & fails to understand that he'll never live up to either of them - but this is still awesome in its own, pretentious way
Whoever does sound production at KEXP needs a raise
So true. They are a phenomenal bunch.
It's in the description :D
The best live recorded set ever. Period. Sounds better every time.
This drummer is just straight inspirational. Everyone is so incredible in their playing, but this guy just steals the show. Wicked, man.
+Sammy Jankis Josh Wells, fantastic player and human
+Sammy Jankis He also plays in Black Mountain who are absolutely incredible.
+Sammy Jankis His enthusiasm is like the total opposite of Bejar's "eyes screwed shut and push the microphone stand around" performance. Really a stand-out guy in a stand-out band.
I thought this drummer was the guy who's other solo band is Loscil...apparently not. But this band is pretty cool none the less.
was just going to post that. Super silky fills.
My life changed the first time I saw Destroyer live.
Finally.Poison Season is one of the best albums of the year.
maybe my favorite band in the last 15 years
Agreed, ever since I heard "painter in your pocket" on my old satellite radio years and years ago, I was hooked.
That was my first song, too!
Pretty happy they busted out "European Oils". One of their best songs for sure.
European Oils at 16:51
I'm 63 years old and these people are great. Some people just know how to play great music.

How is this whiny bastard a genius?
@FriedIcecreamIsAReality thanks for not being disparaging and offensively rude lol to my somewhat rude comment 😊
@@randalclarke5487 I’d suggest starting with the album kaputt
one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard in my life
Absolutely Incredible, Dan Bejar is pure genius.. Drummer is incredible, reminds me of Donovan
thanks for introducing me to Destroyer, KEXP. I fell instantly in love. I must go buy their stuff.
These guys are new to me as of 2 days ago via a random recommendation by UA-cam of “Kaput”. I couldn’t put my finger on who they reminded me of and it finally hit me. The sound similar in some ways to a band I like called “The Church”
Off to explore some more of their work. Cheers.
I love the singer's voice. So unique!
@21:09 to see Dan chilling with some refreshing water as his band shreds with all of their might
Best KEXP performance of this of this year so far. Wow, this is just great.
Best thing I've heard in a while
that drummer kills it wow
Thank you for posting this -- one of the great bands. If this were another time, they'd be kings of the world.
Their sound transfers very nicely to the live format.
Wow, there must a ton of HC and metal and punks out there that are so disappointed that this guy already has their band name. It's so weird to hear Randy Newman pop music played on indie radio, too. Its so nice that KEXP has such a broad range of styles to share with listeners.
I love u Dan, you're attached to so many memories
thats an incredible band making the best music in decades!!!
Update from 2022: they still are
I enjoyed the interview almost as much as the music. Absolutely hilarious.
I'M GOING TO SEE HIM IN DECEMBER AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Destroyer rules
Bangkok is one of the tracks of the year. Destroyer are on a different level (since Kaputt). It's nice to see these tracks played out so cleanly live.
+Marc Backman They've always been. Kaputt was a breakthrough in some sense, but a wealth of amazing material came before it as well
You forgot "This Night"!!!!!!
Randolph Lautsch In my book This Night is the best of the bunch
Try 'Destroyer's Rubies'... I think it's their best album.
Wow, damned good I want to meet these musicians!
que hermosos arreglos me transportan donde quiero estar hermoso ....abrazo desde Chile
Fabulous, thank you!
Aspects of Destroyer kind of reminds me a bit ( aging myself here ) of Al Stewart, in a great way. I love your music keep it up. (00)
gonna seem them next week!
amazing
European Oils: 2x headsets sacrificed to the melodic soup.
Bangkok straight up gave me chills on this performance
Love this band :)
Great sound!
WOW!
Very very bravissimi! Great emozione!
This is awesome! And Destroyer is coming to Gothenburg this summer!!!
Grandious Dan Bejar!!
Dan Bejar has such a unique timbre, but I found someone who, I think, shares a remarkably similar vocal quality --Al Stewart. He's great too! He's a Scot who's been around since the sixties. His biggest hit was 'Year Of The Cat'.
Drummer has the ear and the touch. Deadly combo.
Incredibly tight ...yeah
Been a New Pornographers fan a long time. Just now looked into Destroyer...Poison Season is terrific. Anxiously waiting for Kapput to arrive in the mail.
Sweet !!!!!
this is great
wow!!! excelente banda! saludos desde Argentina.
que grande! otro fanático Argento de Destroyer aca
+Gabriel Peralta tres!!
+Manoodles Cuatro
Cinco. :p

there is something very Bowie about this man
I hear a young Bowie when he sings. Not just the voice itself but the rhythm he sings in. Also a bit of Lou Reed, especially in Bangkok
@@DuBziDriFT I always hear a bit of Bowie, Bolan, and Nilsson...great songwriter!
And Lou reed
this whole thing is so awkward and cute and the music is so good. special thanks to cheryl waters for making me cringe/laugh so hard throughout
nice performance, nice wfmu t-shirt too.
Hey guys, can you bring Joanna Newsom to your studio? We would love it and share it and watch it many times
🙌🙌🙌
base players never get the appreciation they deserve...no cameras on them jeez
That radio lady is totally in love with Dan. I hope he got her number.
Good God... 10: 30 spa on ❤️
wow
lol such a great band!!!
Hey what's got into Sunny
While not a fan of the music I cant help but absolutely admire the craft and delivery they put into their band. Great performance that for whatever reason did not speak to me.
That bass flute tho
FUCK YES
1:32 Play your soul out!!!
this version of hell is great
Martin Starr on keys!
Audio level on the keyboard is too low on European Oils... a cosmic tragedy :(
Hey whats got into Sunny?
The bassist got his awesome freeform American radio stations mixed up!
He's in the New Pornographers too
CALL ME A NEW FAN..like the new stuff....KEN is the shizzle...kaput is good..
Dan writes great music, but he's better doing his songs than he comes off in an interview.
would love to see that drummer join the New Pornographers now that Kurt Dahle is gone
Dan Bejar is god.
That was pretentious and theoretically accurate at the same time. I almost felt the two forces working on the comment as well. Greets from Argentina. :)
5/8 beards score
Tight ship
let me guess ..... "so i can so i can " (sunglasses)
hahaha!!
Bejar is one of the few white dudes who I give a Ray Ban pass to.
Gatekeeping sunglasses now? Lame.
@@longjohn77 lol. cheers
First song = The ultracheese by artic monkeys
Still a fuckin awesome song!
What country are they?
Canada, of course. The US just produces pop shit.
Mineav Thats true, thank you.
+Paulo Valderramas Snarky Puppy, Local Natives, Aan?
+Mineav pacific northwest isn't too bad.
that chick
Have any band recommendations from that area?
Dan Bejar gets on my nerves, I wish I could just listen to the music
someone likes lou reed
Blerg
Sad bastard music alert
Does anyone else hear John Lennon?
Kinda cheesy but really good despite that, not because of it. Dont know if I'll keep listening but I'll give it a try... I guess haha
..how to destroy music. ..
