Three masterclasses in this video: Cheryl on interviewing, the Pixies on songwriting, and the sound engineer on making it all sound awesome.
This woman who is interviewing them is fucking smart. Incredible, actually. She is asking the exact right questions and doing so effortlessly.
+Josh Chambers Cheryl is the best, she always asks legit questions man and is very positive to boot.
+Jim D Cheryl is indeed always the best in these KEXP videos.
+Thunder Foot +Jim D Cheryl Waters brings out a real sweetness and innocence in Black Francis. So great.
+Josh Chambers That's funny.
+Josh Chambers Yes! I was thinking the same thing.
The Pixie's are one of those bands that are just TOO fucking good. their songs are some of the finest tunes ever written. Their Albums should be handed out in schools and hospitals.
yes, handed out in schools and hospitals. One of the best comments EVER !!!!

@@Fabio90s hahahaahh why? i know the possible answer, good job original poster.
cheers mate ;¬)
Wunderbar!
obrigado
man, that song Green and Blues is lovely
yep - 'Greens and Blues' is a great new song by them
Cheryl Waters does great interviews. This one no exception.
Cheryl is so fricken emotionally beautiful
I’d love to have a coffee and cake with her and talk about music
You know I was not sure what would happen to the Pixies when Kim Deal left… but listening to Paz play the violin on Green and Blues she's adding to their sound. The violin really fits well with Joey's guitar playing and the two sounds compliment each other. Paz is the right person to replace Kim just to add an unknown dimension to the Pixies sound. I thought Kim was awesome in the Pixies but the music is getting interesting again with Paz bringing some new sound in!
I really like what the violin adds to the sound. I think she is a great fit for the band. Yay! I can't wait to see them in the summer!
How was it?
@@logandogan272 it was fantastic! Then I saw them again in Tulsa a few months later. They never disappoint.
24:04 Monkey Gone To Heaven
Love all the versions that they played in a reserved manner , revising the song into studio style that feel like they play in living room with family and friends
When I hear Pixies' music I'm in heaven.
i know i'm super late to the party, but i've been really getting into the pixies as of late. much respect to kim (both), also loving the energy paz is bringing to the band. good stuff
Never too late man!
2:23 Joey making sure there's not a snake up against his leg...
Hahahaha - that's now the best bit.
The addition of Paz is like a rebirth for this band. I really enjoy her violin playing and it brings a new sound and depth to these new songs. Brilliant!
I didn’t think it was possible to revive their career. But this is the second chapter after Kim left. She left a big hole in their sound because she had great harmonies with Francis.
But now this is the next phase for this group and they sound great! I’m so happy for them!
The late great Bowie praised the Pixies in a documentary.
He said they were the best American band because of the songs. He even covered one of their songs in concert. That is high praise!
And everyone knows the story of Nirvana and that Cobain said he was trying to sound like the Pixies when he wrote Teen Spirit.
Long Live the Pixies! 🧚♂️🧚🧚♀️
When asked why Radiohead had changed their sound, Jonny Greenwood explained that they were basically imitating the Pixies and there's only so many Pixies albums to imitate.
Bowie covered "Cactus", which is like the Hitchhiker's guide to compulsive sexual obsession.
I just love Cheryl Waters!
She seem,so nice
HOW HAVE I MISSED THIS WTF
Thank you KEXP for continuing to bring bands like the Pixies us.
I wish I'd watched a live performance sooner.
Thank you KEXP. With the extinction of our "Local Record Stores", it's not easy to find good music. Inviting great bands to play live is the next best thing.
Still relevant; one of the most important bands ever.
I love the interviewer lady!
The Pixies are my favorite band of all time!!
Me too bro.... ❤️🇮🇪
After the Beatles? Are you serious dudes???
@@kshuf8426 I'm 50 old, Pixies was one of my favorites bands in 80/90's too (with the Cure, Jane's Addiction, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry... and many more). But all the time? No, really, the 4 of Liverpool is THE TOP man! ;)

Greens & Blues is a truly great tune.
These KEXP lives are just a bomb.. Dick Dale, All Them Witches and Pixies.. dear lord! I love them. I love the Pixies! So, so glad they're back and doing their thing!
Not my favorite Pixies tunes, but solid tunes, especially Snakes.
I miss Kim as much as anyone but life goes on with Paz. I hope
they keep writing tunes now
I hope too ;)
Frank and his wife owned a bar we used to play at all the time. I lived right across the street from it and would go there and just slowly drink beers when I was bored. Never knowing the bald dude that was there from time to time sitting quietly by himself ( until I struck up convo and learned his name) was fuckin Frank Black of the Pixies. Back then, all I had was a couple old pixies LPs. UA-cam didn’t exist and the band wasn’t touring. So I had no idea that is who he was until much later after the fact. I just knew of a guy I chatted with named Frank who owned a bar. And, wrote some of the most iconic songs of my youth. Thanks for telling me dude! It’s not like I would have been suckin your farts. It was a musical town. Everyone played in GREAT bands.
That bar was called Tiny Tavern. In Eugene Oregon on Blair street. Next to one of the all time greatest punk venues (Ickys) that ever existed in a time when all bands were just, GOOD.
Wonder if that bar is there still and if he still owns it....or if it sits as a quiet unknown landmark.
his real name isnt Frank its Charles why would he introduce himself as Frank he only uses that name for showbusiness. he probably told you he was him but wasnt just went along when you asked him [hey arent yo frank black¨?
best band in existence.
Paz is such a versatile musician!
Pixies are timeless and cheryl so calm and collected great questions very much a pro
Saw them in concert in '92 sounded amazing... saw them again in '19 sounded just as amazing... these guys are the real deal.

Black Francis is a beautiful man.
Pixies music more than the sum of its parts
Funck PIXIES. MUCH LOVE TO PAZ
I love the production quality of these performances. My God...that camera work...and editing and engineering...outstanding.
Paz !!
Paz was in APC and Zwan. she's alway great in all projects.
she also played with queens of the stone age for a while.
Fuck Paz.. no Kim no Pixies.
Time to move on Jorge. The bitter drug addict has been gone a long time.
God bless KEXP... unless... Rock n Roll!
Green and Blues is becoming a favorite song of mine
These KEXP shows are always great! Thanks guys! I used to go to the Dentist tha’s right next door to you :)
Brilliant session - The Pixies have been one of my favorite bands for many years, great to see them doing new things in a new direction rather than more of the same.
My favorite of this setbis absolutely snakes
Love Frank Black solo! Was depressed when Pixies reunited. Hurry up and break up again already!
It's Lovely and amazing how Charles talks, like theatral, so spontaneous and relaxed, like sculpting sofltly the ideas that he have in his mind for everyone around to show their inside.
I’m so stoked
Legendary band and I am happy to watch a set 5x as long

Just love Cheryl
I love them. Still the same old Picies to me. And it's great.
Adrian Andre Agree. If there can be The Stones, then there can be The Pixies. Both bands have great back catalogues and loads of fans (Stones to the power of!!) that we want to hear played live and to see.
Paz, amor e empatia
i miss kim, too, but i also recognize this as a new incarnation of the pixies - and a very interesting one - that reflects the difference you might expect in 20+ years..
Paaazzzz!!!!!
