    Really liking this series so far. I love how greasy Ryan always is, looking like "fuck we gotta stop for a second so I can explain what's going on", and then go straight back to it. I'm basically a human shop rag myself, and I'm all about E30's and 2002's, so I really enjoy watching these. Looking forward to more!

    This series is great. I love the authenticity and honesty of the spirit and build. No sponsor plugs. Just the documentation of honest hard work to go racing.

    Well done! We too have run Nitto NT-05's in the Western ChumpCar Division. Placed 3rd in our 1st event at Auto Club Speedway in October of 2016. The tires held up for the entire 10 hour race and we still had life in them.

    One of the greatest things I've ever spent $20 on was a pair of coveralls. It's awesome to not trash out a bunch of clothes, and be able to take them off and go somewhere/into a car without getting it filthy.

    Loosen the motor mounts and lift the engine up slightly. That's how you take off the oil pan without loosening the subframe.

      This was a rushed series from the get go. If I had months to settle in and focus on a proper build, then I would have. But with other work and the fact that the turn around times for this production were so hard to meet, we had to get shit done fast. I wouldn't say we cut corners, we just got done what we needed to and could with the time we had (with hopes that the engine would keep ticking the way it was). Thanks for watching!

    • @onepunchtyler
      @onepunchtyler 7 років тому +4

      Yeah I get you. You had no choice because of time. Some scenes were painful to watch, but just a tiny bit :) But I think I can handle it so no worries :D No, it's all fine. You did what you had to do.

    The yellow dot on the tire, should be aligned with the valve. That reduces the need for wheel weights. I am however happy to see that you taped your weights. ;-)

    • @RyanSymancek
      @RyanSymancek 7 років тому +2

      We had to blow these tires on with a torch. I wish I got footage of that. It was crazy! After making explosions, my concern of where the yellow dot was wasn't that great ;)

    I guess we'll find out next time, but ive found the HP+ to be inadequate as a track pad. Crazy good initial bite from cold make them a great autox pad. Check out Porterfield or one of Hawks endurance pads. Also the NT05 is a bit slower than the current crop of 200tw tires. I like the AD08R if you are running 205s. Free tires are free tires though!!

    • @RyanSymancek
      @RyanSymancek 7 років тому +3

      Hahah yeah free tires were free tires. I was really impressed with the NT05's though, but haven't tested anything else. The HP+'s did burn up quick. I didn't detail it much in the next video. We went through two sets or fronts during Barber. A better endurance pad would be nicer in the future, yeah. That makes a lot of sense for an AutoX pad.

    Hawk HP Plus is not a race compound. Look into DTC60's or 70's. You also need adjuster in the rear to get a proper alignment.

    • @Northern_
      @Northern_ 6 років тому

      Came here to post the same thing about the Hawk HP+. They're well known for fade in anything beyond autox (Talking E30's here...). In addition to the DTC pads, PFC08's are really popular for track use.
      For trailing arm adjusters, there are a bunch of different approaches, but most also come with significant drawbacks.
      Eccentric RTABs spin, e39 eccentric bolts slip/spin, the "posi-lok" which don't slip suffer from adjustment "resolution" from the coarse teeth. There are some much nicer setups out there, but cost rises rapidly after this point. Subframe risers are a good compromise for anything that's street driven and lowered, but not really for dedicated track cars or anything stock height (or higher)

    • @RyanSymancek
      @RyanSymancek 7 років тому +2

      Yeah it's a new shop haha. Didn't get all the stuff in there at that point. We knew the bleeding technique, but decided to err on the side of caution and try to find a new caliper. I didn't really explain that situation that well I guess. It was hard cause it happened around midnight and we we're hustling. We didn't get much time to explain what was happening or even get a good shot of what happened. I did what I could all through the night, and had a friend of Alex's source us a brandy new one at IMC Parts... so I just decided to play it safe and get new.

    Hey guys, multiple times race and class win in ChumpCar here with an e30. Check my channel for footage.
    Drill the shock towers and physically move the bolt holes over for more camber, run some brake ducts and take the points hit. It is worth it, also use PFC 08 brake pads are my recommendations so far in the video.

    • @WyFoster
      @WyFoster 7 років тому

      Bridgestone RE71s or Falken Azenis tires. The Hankook RS4s are coming out soon too so that may be a tire of choice.

    • @RyanSymancek
      @RyanSymancek 7 років тому

      The adjustable camber plates worked pretty well. I guess we could drilled, but it was easier to do it that way. Thanks for the other tips! The Hawks were pretty good, but the did wear quicker than I expected (but that coulda just been the heat from no ducts). Will have to try the PFC's. I've heard good things!

    • @WyFoster
      @WyFoster 7 років тому

      Yeah, definitely easier. just a way to save yourself a few points for the future.
      Our e30 is running massive aero. Splitter and wing each end is only 10 points and I think the plates are 20 or 25?! so worth while trade off if you got the time!

    • @sp33der617
      @sp33der617 7 років тому

      I gotta think you're going to want higher heat pads, I haven't seen a car where HP+ were enough for track use, nevermind an enduro. I'd start with Hawk Blues.

    • @E30Fred
      @E30Fred 7 років тому

      For sure, HP+s are nowhere close to a real race pad like an 08 or 11, also, there are certainly better 200TW tires for endurance racing like ZII. RE71R and Rival S 1.5 might not last a 2 day event depending on track, track surface, and driving style. Love this series! Keep up the great work guys!

      We didn't have an easy out kit with us. We were calling and texting around to see who had what... and I was able to lock down a caliper before a kit (believe it or not, but it was like midnight on a Wednesday).

    • @Nayr_uk
      @Nayr_uk 7 років тому +1

      One thing you can do is pop the piston out using air, push it back in but fill the chamber with brake fluid then push the caliper back slowly 95% of the way, hook up your brake pipe to to the caliper loosely and have the nut 99% of the way in so its hard to push the fluid out but it can still get out when you push the piston back. When the piston is all the way back, tighten the nut straight away and that will seal the system. Isn't as good as bleeding it the correct way but will give you a pretty strong pedal in diar times.

      Ya, I did catch that. Makes it kinda tough finding goodies late at night. Back in the '60s, I remember an auto parts store that was open 24 hrs. in San Jose, CA. Never tried it but that would be handy, huh? That sorta changed our joking about getting things from "midnight auto supply", if you get my drift. lol To be honest, I would probably have gone with the new one and later fixed the old one and have a spare. :---))))))))))))

    Couldn't have just loosened the brake line to bleed them? Or is something weird on E30's that doesn't let you do that?

      However, it's the fluid in the caliper that's been subject to the highest temps. In order to flush that, you need the bleeder screw which lies beyond the cylinders. To loosen the line would simply bleed fluid from the line.

      Eric Pommerer Broken bleeder screw would probably not pass tech.
