I remember sitting on a couch with my Uncle and watch the DTM in 80's, I was a little boy who had dreams of being Cecotto, Soper or Ravaglia......never raced in real life....but I do have an E30 and every time I drive it, it takes me back to the 80's
Jonathan...is Mr. Cecotto still racing in any Category other than Historical? Seeing him racing this Sport Evo M3 tells me he is still in top notch condition/form...
I remember Cecotto/Soper/Danner in the 24h's of Spa in '92. I was 9 years old. And you always could tell at Raidillon, without seeing the helmet, who was behind the wheel. Cecotto was always pushing the gears against the rev limiter every single time in the downhill towards Eau Rouge :) They won the race. Good memories!
I can’t believe how insanely quick that M3 is, eating the M1 ‘s even in a straight line which surprised me a bit .. I assume JC senior , what an absolute artist behind the wheel, you had a great great mentor in your dad and it shows .
Im back here 6 years later watching this again. A legendary driver in a legendary DTM car. What an era it was. Flying to Much in end of this week from Canada to visit the BMW museum just to see an E30 M3 DTM in person. Thats for uploading this Mr. Cecotto!
So great 👍👍🚀 thank you for this video Jonathan! you can see the talent from Johnny like 25 years before! he is pushing and overtaking the cars with more HP!!
Also the sport isn't that approachable anymore. Back then the E30 M3 road car was a perfect base to go racing or rallying. I'm pretty sure they used the actual road car as a base for the race versions, too. Today the lightest Bmw you can buy weighs no less than 1,400kg dry and any racecar starts out on a completely different platform than the road cars. It's going to become a lot worse since Bmw has to sell 50% EVs by 2030, which means their entire efforts and resources will go into the efficiency/EVgadget BS (it's not about the environment) from now on, so they won't have enough resources left to build decent motorsport cars. It's all luxury gadgets and overpriced garbage gadgets from here on, and you can't even go back and just get an old car because an E30 M3 is now worth 6 figures. So almost nobody is even going to use E30 M3s for what it was built for in the future.
Mr. Cecotto still got it! Awesome touringcar Driver! I was at many DTM races with my father when I was a young boy. Golden Era and 1000 times better then this proto shit today! Real Racing!
This is the '92 DTM car from Altfrid Heger (Schnitzer-BMW). I see the '92 mirrors and analog Tacho with 5-speed gear. The original '92 Cecotto BMW was white with "FINA"-Sponsor, has an "MOTEC"-Instrument an 6 speed gear.
This is pure JC M3 E30 gold. I live in hope of some more footage of the GP Strecke or Nordschleife. A model of driver awareness and car-control. Swan Lake on tarmac.
nice jsut bought a die cast model of the m3 driven by him !! at sebring 2016 sign by m6r drivers and brian redman, hope to have it sign by cecotto some day !!
The DTM E30 M3 with Johnny Cecotto in it can put the latest DTM cars into same. Can't wait to see the DTM E30 M3 battling with the DTM 190E again. Question: Why Johnny left the Mercedes for the BMW?
Had a chance years ago to buy a BMW M3 Cecotto. Passed it up but have literally kicked myself everyday for not buying it. Legends have legendary cars named after them
@@JonathanCecotto Sure looks like a ABS pump on passenger floor ? I had a factory Gp N E30 that had a motorsport ABS pump. It was much better than stock pump. I did not think the Gp A cars had it.
DaveFazzino I know that a certain point there was some kind of ABS, nowhere close to the modern sophisticated systems. I think it’s use was literally to avoid 100m long lock ups (so quite useless) but no more 😁
The downshifts... Not even skipping a gear... What a legend. That was the peak of Motorsport.

Yes it's a really great car! Brings lot of emotions :)
Jonathan...is Mr. Cecotto still racing in any Category other than Historical? Seeing him racing this Sport Evo M3 tells me he is still in top notch condition/form...
Papieck37 Unfortunately he only attends historic events for example Goodwood festival of speed. Not any professional races

Convert your E30 to a production spec race car like mine and get out racing :D :D :D
More overtaking in one lap than in a full season of f1. The good old days gone forever, but still nice to see the e30 m3 smashing it.
@jemimallah there's always a dick in the comments to brighten the day.
@jemimallah I like F1 too....but he ain't wrong.
agreed F1 cars have become tame and boring to be honest, nothing like the old brutal turbo cars from sennas age
I can’t believe how insanely quick that M3 is, eating the M1 ‘s even in a straight line which surprised me a bit .. I assume JC senior , what an absolute artist behind the wheel, you had a great great mentor in your dad and it shows .
Just like s2000s, these little e30s can take on m1 like how s2000 kills nsx with right setup and driver
Passing M1s like they are standing still. In an E30!
Completly impossible to do in project cars 2 lol.
its even more impressive knowing that the S14 engine is a M88 (M1 engine) with 2 cylinders chopped off.
@@jamppa4693 Wow I did not know that!
Reunited with his car! This E30 is the reason why I love BMWs and touring car racing. Touring car racing will never be the same again.
Mr Cecotto, it‘s simply incredible to watch you in the E30!
Amazing!
Get out of the way......Johnny is coming!
Great to see his never ending skills in a BMW M3 (y)
Not to mention that speed of these old DTM cars is freaking awesome.
Great car and great driving - a nice glimpse from the golden age of car racing.
Johnny...i meet you every year at the ring....you are great and the m3 fly with you....the history is write
The E30 M3 Cecotto Edition is one of my dream cars. That was some Epic driving, Damn !

Absolute legend precision driving teaching everyone on track and watching how to drive.... Bless
The legend of the 80is.... Great
He is loving it also :D! love to see he still has the passion. Thanks Jonathan, proud to call you guys "Paisanos mios" :D
Pure joy for eyes and ears! Thanks Johnny!
Amazing to see him dispatch the M1's like that!
Grande Johnny Cecotto y con ese M3 e30, orgullo venezolano

Johnny knows his stuff 😊👍
Excellent driver in an excellent car!Extreme combination!
Superb driving! And the fantastic overtake at 2:52 was the icing on the cake! What a drive in that little old box we all call a legend
So great 👍👍🚀 thank you for this video Jonathan! you can see the talent from Johnny like 25 years before! he is pushing and overtaking the cars with more HP!!
Yes :)
Wonderful driving! He was just gobbling up those M1s like they were out for a Sunday drive 👌
Great car, excellent driving.
Legend 🇻🇪🇻🇪🇻🇪
Those old DTM boys are mad aggressive. They don't make drivers like that anymore.
Perhaps the top flight cars just aren’t like that anymore. Plenty of incredible drivers around in every era.

Legendary man / Legendary car ! 😍
dang this was awesome. Almost brought tears to my eyes.
That sound !!
WTF THE SOUND IS VERY NICE !
OMG! incredible driving
He is my favorite driver of all time. For me, the 1998 STW Championship is his masterpiece. And I’m Brazilian…
Amazing stuff - just watching the car squrim under braking and the way he takes chunks out of his opposition in every corner - mega!
Mr. Cecotto still got it! Awesome touringcar Driver! I was at many DTM races with my father when I was a young boy. Golden Era and 1000 times better then this proto shit today! Real Racing!
Too short; not long enough. And ended earlier than I'd have liked. Apart from that, bloody fantastic. Thanks!
If I had a dollar for every time I’ve heard that...
love that it still has the dash pad
Oh man I love it! That is some balls to the wall driving!
YES!! Thats the way these m3s are supposed to be driven!! GO Johnny GO!
Arriba mis paisanos Johnny & Jonathan, great Vídeo...
El talento y las ganas de ganar, siguen intactos. Un cordial abrazo desde Argentina.

Philipp Schramm I saw him shift into 6th gear
PGUNNA201 I actually saw Johnny shifting 1-5.

Great video, awesome driver and car combo. 👍🏻 Is that the pump for the onboard jacks in the passenger footwell?

Question: Why Johnny left the Mercedes for the BMW?
Thank you for this video
Ah, the good old heel and toe. I love it.
I know its due to his driving, vut qas the dtm e30 faster than the m1?
Had a chance years ago to buy a BMW M3 Cecotto. Passed it up but have literally kicked myself everyday for not buying it. Legends have legendary cars named after them
the old man still has it !
When you set AI to easy 😂
Nah they were just afraid of crashing such collectors item

It's a bit like those M1 guys forgot bring some horsepower with them lol
