BMW 325is for $2000, Buying and Shakedown [EPISODE 1] -- /BORN A CAR
Вставка
- Опубліковано 22 бер 2017
- This is the story of a crap-can BMW 325is and our attempt to take it drifting, off-roading, rallying, and endurance racing. In EP1 Ryan buys the BMW and meets up with Mike Spinelli at Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ (home of the Clubloose drift scene) to see what we got ourselves into.

this car is the perfect example of why you dont cut springs, it bounced like a cheap ricer.
THAT is true.
/DRIVE Im selling my w140, 1997 S320 Mercedes, runs great, 3.2 straight six 260,000 miles. Michaelmulder90@gmail.com
Oh dude... it was the worst. But hilarious to bang around a track. That being said though, the worst thing you can do to suspension, is make it half of what it was.
i have STOCK suspension on my e30 and it bounces like a MOTHERF.. but I got new coils coming in the mail ;)
Huh. I have a totally stock '89 325i and it doesn't bounce around at all. Shocks and springs in good shape help a LOT even though they're stock spec.
These are the best series that have been on DRIVE hands down. I think Ryan is relate-able and the information is realistic. This is how you get the next generation into motorsports. It also lets us 40 somethings dream a dream that just might come true.
Thanks! Ryan and the crew will definitely appreciate the kind words. They worked really hard on this series.
Kevin Keohan I couldn't agree more, I came down here just to say exactly that! It could be me sat there in that e30, I can't afford a super car so tire quickly of watching that kind of stuff!
Thanks for the support and kind words! You guys watching and sharing this stuff keeps me afloat and able to do this.
Kevin Keohan he does the series my life as a rallyist which either is cancelled or close to being
far from it, you must have missed the second season which aired not long ago.
We find these cars in my area quite a bit. My kid is wanting to get into racing ans we're researching where to start. This is the first channel I've watched thats relatable to our situation, guys that love driving and aren't pretentious.
I love the new direction of /DRIVE , less budget but more relatable content for the average joe. After watching this i started looking around for an old BMW to transform into my own grassroots racecar. Good to see you back /Drive.
That's the plan. Thanks! More to come.
The next step after taking the trash out is to shake it down at a track? Not replace all the fluids and check tires, brakes, suspension??
Edward Brearey what suspension
The remnants of the suspension.
I think they already done that judging by the last video.
The point of this video was to 'shake down' exactly what we just bought... how it sat. I did change fluids and stuff though. Looked it over. We start doing more stuff to it in the next episode.
#SendIt!!!
I really want an e30 now....why do you do this to me /DRIVE?
Patty Boi Same I actually found a really nice one for $3,200 however it's a 325ES, but idk still seems fun just a lot lower rpms with more low end torque than the 325IS.
Agreed! And then i'm reminded of a turbo e30 i picked up 6 years ago and the appeal fades. . lol
Agreed! And then i'm reminded of a turbo e30 i picked up 6 years ago and the appeal fades. . lol
Bar Gym Lol what happened?
If there's one thing this video highlights, its that they're fun to drive. They definitely are, I love my E30.
I'm building an E30 on my channel right now.
Post a link bitch
Best show ever, showing that every car lover can have some fun with just the money you have! keep Up the good work!
Ryan can hoon! This is really shaping up to be the most interesting thing /DRIVE has done in a looong time.
More hooning and other stuff to come!
This with Ryans Rally stuff! #mint
Hey ryan, are you still filming for mototrend/ house of muscle?
Wojciech Siewior
Well.. There goes the market!
the market is already high, but i bought mine two years ago so idgaf hahaha
@@RollAwayMedia :(
This video is leagues ahead of previous videos. Mike and Ryan in front of the camera is a good combination. Videos like this could raise \drive youtube from the depths.
Trying our best to make some serious content. I'm excited for the episodes to come. I think you'll really like them.
This is why I'm subscribed to DRIVE. Loving the series so far
I had a '91 318is with an M package. Bought it in the late 90s... it was the funnest car I've ever owned.
so great to finally have some new content guys! now keep the ball rollin this time!
These will be weekly till the series is over, then My Life as a Rallyist, along with some cool (pretty hilarious) other stuff follows. Seeing the lineup, I'm excited. We're trying, but it ain't a cakewalk, I promise you that.
maaaan good read this! been a fan of this channel for years now! iḿ looking forward to all the upcomming content! so happy you guys are back! I can really relate to the My Life As A Rallyist becouse I started out almost the same way only in the dutch time attack series =D (that's what my channel is abaut mostly) and thx for the reply man!
I am super excited for this series. I love e30s, and Ryan is a cool dude who is super passionate. Spinelli is super knowledgeable, and it will be fun to see him do something other than sit on a couch and talk.
had an e30 for my first wip. ive now had many cars 15 years later, always missed that thing, great handling car awesome power drifts, few tickets, few ladies, was under a wide load trailer one time ;P (fast and furious style) lol wish i had go pro.
E30 best car i ever drove 1988 325is 5 spd :)
This channel seems nice. Not overly stale content, The whole video title is visible, etc.
Great teaser! Look forward to more episodes. Ryan gives my project car hope to one day hit the track 🙏
Impressive drift skillz! Especially with a 'stock' E30. I like this project!
fucking bout to make all these clapped out e30s on craigslist skyrocket in price
honestly it isn't a bad looking car either, well when it's cleaned up a bit it their nice :)
one of the best series on UA-cam
great video cant wait till more come out
Cant stop watching this series over and over again 😂
I really enjoyed this episode. Nice work!
This is absolutely fantastic.
I purchased a similar car two years ago. It is in slightly better condition, but for $3k I found a 1999 328is that was road legal and 99.9% stock. It is an absolute hoot of a car, it was great to drive on a 500 mile road trip home. It even managed 32mpg while flogging it the entire way up the PA turnpike. I highly recommend an old BMW 3 series coupe if you can find a cheap one, they are just great cars to play with.
I kind of wish I had just kept mine stock and worked on improving the condition. I purchased it an engine project. The project though running hasn't been reliable. The stock engine was phenomenal, actually it was the best part of the car. I even dynoed it and found that after 163k miles and 16 years it was still putting out exactly stock hp at the crank.
Awesome series can't wait to see the rest this is super interesting
Glad to see Ryan back on /DRIVE.
Thanks!
Great content guys. Really fun to watch you fang that e30 like it wants.
Never knew Jimmy fallon was a car guy
Cant wait for next episode!!!!
I feel like this is a start to more series with Mike and Ryan, in front of the camera. Can't wait to see where Born A Car goes and what happens after.
This is going to be an awesome series! I've been thinking of an e30 lately.
an e30 has always been my number one dream car not some super car, this thing is what it truly means to test the car as much as the driver with feel and experience .
Awesome series, I'm hooked.
So much low cost fun, so easy to relate to. Some of the most entertaining car video I have ever watched. Great job guys!
Thanks!
this video put a huge smile on my face lol thanks guys. I love E30's 🤓
Im in love with these bmw's !
Hey Spinelli good to see you on the track not just in the studio. Looks like fun!
This actually made me smile really hard. In my mind I told myself "this is what it's all about".
great vid guys!
These are 'so' popular here in South-Africa, people love hooning around the streets in the 325is. They're affectionately known as 'Gusheshe'
This just makes me love my e30 even more. What a great series!
ThatE30Guy same e30s are just a great car to have
I just jeep coming back to this vid 😆 just an epic series
KEEP IT UP LOVIN THIS
3:28 bruh "cut springs" NOOOOOO
Crazy how I almost bought this e30 off Eric. Also got a lot of parts from him too. Parts for my e30 and 540i e34.
Interesting to see the in-car camera views... There's so much glass! Or rather, such narrow pillars. I LOVE my E30, and one of the key things I love is how great the visibility is. Pillar Airbags are obviously worthwhile safety innovations, but a lack of blindspots is a safety feature that is long gone in modern cars.
More ryan!!!! lov this dude
I have my wife's (only owner) 1986 E30 that needs a restoration. It's a California car, so zero rust. I'm looking forward to your videos!
Please more content like this and of course more episode on this one
Love this video!! Man crush on you guys
This is awesome! I want one!
im in love with this car
now this is a show 👍👍👍👍
Please make more!
i think these is one of the best /Drive show i ever watched. well, because its e30.
6 yrs later- just bought a 325is 😬 - finally!!!
YES Ryan is fucking back, I love thid guy
happy to be back!
This is really cool
I got my 90 325is auto for 1300 and I never will regret it. I love it
Wow, Im lovin IT!
Good driving homie
Good stuff.
I just bought a 1987 325i for 1000 can’t wait to get it back to a good car
Hopefully one day I can have my own show on UA-cam reviewing and making older project cars haha, currently Im in my 15 wrx and I love it though :)
this is cool. i like the young guys personaity
Lol @ doing wheel bolts up with an impact wrench one after the other
i love how many times they said the car was shitty yet i still see one of the most beautiful cars ever created
Just so you guys know I would have watched the next episode anyways without having to wait to figure out the time and now that Ryan is back what's up with the subie/rallye series thought there was supposed to be more of those !?!!
More Rallyist after Born A Car!
Ryan Symancek cool man because I love that series I have to give you major props because when you came out with that like what 2 years ago almost now that sparked my passion for rallye/working on cars in general that I didn't know I had haha the lisp made me feel like I could relate hahaha jk man just fucking around I really love that series and what you've done and achieved good for you and thanks for being able to share!!
E30 is a great all around car, thats why i have one.
dude, the interior in that car is in great condition! :O just restore the whole thing!
Do more of this
these always were great cars, even more, in South Africa, this is THE car for drifting
i always wanted to buy one cheap and drive without a lot of care but i was afraid of it breaking too quickly
nice test i like before seing and comment too
"a lot of you made mistakes" I have a delsol wreck I bought planning to do cny scca rally cross events with. it will make it out eventually.
Such a beautiful car
bmw have common tappet noise, valve adjustment will fix it but its not necessary unless it gets real loud
*Finally a good car,* I was tired of chassis flex and piston slap aka poobaru :))
I love this car
It's going to be interesting to see someone learn about the E30's reputation first hand in this series. He keeps saying he's not a BMW guy... I'd wager money he is by the end.
i love the e30 and it is one of my dream beemers
The099az bimmers, you mean
remus single exit on a 325is.. interesting. mine came to me with the dual exit, it weighed about 60lbs and overwhelmed the rubber hangers to the point of throwing sparks off the pavement. it was rough.
Wow that's a healthy looking interior..
Hey thats the rally guy! hes back
There's also some new My Life as a Rallyist stuff that came out last October if you haven't seen yet. More on the way as well!
I could have bought these things all day long for $500-$1000 really not that long ago. I wish I had had the foresight to buy as many as could and throw them in a warehouse until the 2020's ;)
I'd second that "e30 best". As an ex-owner of a e30 325i I must say the e36 325i single vanos is by far the bestest of all 325i's!! The response, high pitched vanos screams from every 4k rev is unlike no other aka e30 or e46 etc. If you're not talking about the s14 e30 than, we don't want to hear it!
Unfortunately it weighs considerably more though and the e30 chassis is better. The m20 engine is one of the best BMW 6 pots ever. Admittedly I prefer an s14 though. I'm not knocking the m50/m52 engines though. They're also very good and a cheap upgrade in an e21 or e30. I put an m52/2.8 in my e21 316. 240bhp with some easy mods.
finally its not just talking and we can see the car
These videos make me want to get a car... For that 2000 I could get 740iL or 750... if it worked for one summer it would be amazing but oh well. We can't always afford what we want but we can always afford what we need.
I like this show. Psyched for the next episode.
Wait.... Is that the my life as a ralliest kid? Man that was a cool series!
Yup that's me. There's also some new My Life as a Rallyist stuff that came out last October if you haven't seen yet. Go check it out!
Wish you guys wouldve gave some raw clips of it sliding and the lap
Welcome back Ryan! My money's on him for fastest lap.
I've had five BMW's and still own, maintain and drive my '87 325is for the past 20 years. I wonder how long it will last with my 18 year old driving it after watching these videos... Whenever I drive it to a shop or auto parts store, I get horribly offensive low-ball offers to sell it. If you see a decent e30 with an older driver, know that we've probably all had $100k sports cars in the past, but still have our e30's and will until hell freezes over. So stop asking to buy it for a month or two of your wages.
I'd only sell or give mine away to someone with the means and concern to keep it running well and driven hard until they die.
That rear view mirror u got is a rare option fyi
you would be going faster and have a higher heart rate in a new M car but nothing beats the light weight and simple power-train/suspension to have a lot of fun
something about an E30 just looks right on the track, even a dogged out one.
I bought my 330ci coupe 05 for 2000 dollars. Perfect condition mechanically sadly someone took out the whole bumper and front mirror this morning. Only had the car for two weeks.
There are two of these for sale in Australia and they're both 25k unmodified
Glad to see the Bmw E34 was left unharmed! xD 00:43 , 01:12
For the love of god, change the timing belt if you don't have proof it was done recently. A valve adjustment wouldn't hurt either.
Doesn't sound like it has a Schrick 288, but I could be wrong
timing belt bump lol
