it's really funny when someone tries to be a smart ass having failed to understand the point.
i actually did hold a paid subscription to Drive back in the day, that was fine with me.
the problem was that the content 'goodness' was never there from some point on.
and for some reason those videos had a couple of thousand views.
i dunno why, but it seems apparent that that scheme didn't work. at the same time, some channels really do well with patreon and what not. granted, these mostly seem to have a modest production complexity.
what i am actually saying is that they should come up with an arrangement that would work. there must be a way, i hope.
Fix the broken stuff, dial it in. Check things that are likely to go wrong, dial all that in. Set it up properly, and do this endurance thing again!
Thaddeus Sandford log everything that happened what worked what worked, what broke and what can improved. they do that I guarantee they will finish in the top 10 or higher maybe even podium.

For basically a salvaged car....the car was awesome....the motor held up.....a bummer the trans didn't....road racing is brutal on clutch and tranny.....the other events beat the car too....tells you that BMW builds a pretty damn good car.....

I really loved this mini-series. It was perfect and hyper realistic. It showed the woes and the feats of what the BMW E30 could do when people are behind it, loving and gunning it through all corners and through all straights. I have an E36 and wouldn't dare do this to it, but I see that if I were to, it could probably stand the test. Again, you guys have done an amazing job, and I thank you all that you created this!!!!!

E36 is also a great option. Its light, affordable, sounds great and is faster.

This is an awesome glimpse into the world of ChumpCar. My friends and I bought an e36 318ti freshman year of college that we did winter autocross with, then track days, and eventually ChumpCar at Road America. Our roll cage failed tech inspection, but we stayed up until the wee hours piecing together Grade 8 bolts and welding missed joints with a borrowed MIG from a fellow competitor, and we were on track at sunrise. The Chump community is unique - you won't find a more helpful paddock in any other form of motorsport.

I'm gonna miss this rig, and its story. Hope Ryan comes back for something in the future, but he seemed pretty worn out by the whole ordeal, so I'd understand if he didn't. Great job overall. The idea, the staff, and the presentation were all surreal. Much appreciated.

Hope you guys can bring the E30 back to this event next year address the issues you had and make a better run, this was an awesome experience, hope you bring more content such as this, it could be about further upgrades on the E30 or maybe some other project car. Congratz on the E30, the race and this series and keep it up.
All in all the BMW proved to be amazingly reliable, I was expecting a lot more things to go wrong in a long-distance endurance race... you guys did a fantastic job in making it race-ready.

This was a great series to watch! One of the more unique cars at that endurance race imo
Most endurance racing is like this -- Chump, Lemons, WRL, AER, etc. Everybody helps everybody. It's like everyone is one huge team.
On the subject of fuel consumption, if you have to conserve gas, stop using full throttle. As I've tried to teach my teammates, the difference between 50/75/100% throttle is the volume of gas; it'll only have a few seconds difference in speed. In an endurance race, those seconds don't matter vs. the loss of laps (not all tracks have pit timing loops) and the time on pit road (which for chump is a required 5mins.) Now that we're racing (sigh) an electric car, they _have to_ be very conservative with that right foot. Plus, once you know you'll not get your speed back quickly, you begin to drive with more momentum.
Having to drive with a single gear will also teach you to hold on to momentum. THSCC's HPDE program includes that as an on track exercise. That's a valuable skill in endurance racing... drive a bit slower in 4th/5th or spend an hour changing the transmission.
(PS: I'm surprised they flagged that contact. Chump (east region) has a nasty reputation for ignoring contact.)

Ryan, truly amazing work with this series. At the beginning I knew nothing about cars, and now I'm subscribed to /Drive and doing my research to find my way into the racing community. Big-ups to Jagger and Downey as well, y'all make a good team.

This hit me right in the feels. But also, our E30 radiator bit it this past Saturday during a LeMons race so solidarity bro. Fortunately, it happened with only 30 minutes to go and we borrowed a spare from another team while we tried to help mend their master cylinder.
Cool video. Pretty much my experience racing with Chump and Lucky Dog. Always have a spare radiator. And a tip for making the space for a tire. Use a short 4x4 and try to round off the corners, jack the car up put the 4x4 between the tire and the fender well and roll the car back and forth.
